Oracle Aplication Server Portal 10 G - configure portlets in Oracle Portal
Hi, I was reading through the Document " ORACLE APPLICATIONS SERVER PORTAL 10G release 2 (10.1.4 - Customized Portlets with BPEL.
On page 3 it refers to chapter 20 of a document caled "BEPL 10.1.2.0.2 Developer's Guide".
I couldn't find this document. It is supposed to teach youhow to configure out-of-box portlets in Oracle Portal.
Thanks
Hi Sleepy,
you can find this chapter here: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/integrate.1012/b14448/portal.htm#sthref3420.
How to find it? http://otn.oracle.com -> documentation -> application server -> Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) Documentation (Previous Releases section) -> View Library for B14099-11 and finally E-business Integration tab contains BPEL guides.

Implement Oracle Aplication Server Portal - Starting work
Hi everyone
I work with java and Oracle database, manager oracle application server, but i need to learn Oracle Aplication Server Portal, i just to know some tips to start.
How can i do that?
Thanks
José VieiraHi José,
The link :
http://www.oracle.com/appserver/portal_home.html
has a small text to the right that reads " Download Oracle Application Server 10g ". The first link in the download page is for " Application Server 10g Release 2 " - the installer for this allows you to install the Ifrastrcuture and the MiddleTier.
During the installation of Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2), you would have notice three options :
1. J2EE & WebCache
* Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control
* Oracle HTTP Server Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
* Oracle Application Server Web Cache
2. Infrastructure
* Oracle Database Server 10g (10.1.0.4.2)
* Oracle Internet Directory
* Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On
* Oracle Application Server Directory Integration Provisioning
* Oracle Application Server Delegated Administration Services
* Oracle Application Server Certificate Authority
3. MiddleTier.
* Oracle Application Server Portal
* Oracle Application Server Wireless
* Oracle Sensor Edge Server
* Oracle Application Server Forms Services
* Oracle Application Server Reports Services
* Oracle Application Server Personalization
* Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer
You can also install other tools & services like :
* Oracle Security Developer Tools
* Oracle Application Server Guard
* OracleAS Backup and Recovery Tool
Thus, while installing, you need to install the Infrastructure ( which will contains the OID , SSO, etc. ), and the Middletier ( Portal, etc. ) later. The Portal MiddleTier depends on the Infrastructure.
Oracle Portal allows you to collect disparate sources of information and applications and present it on a single page. A Portal is a Web site or service that offers a broad array of resources and services, such as email, forums, search engines, and on-line shopping malls. It's more like a "doorway" to the Internet or a portion of the Internet, targeted towards one particular subject.
You can develop an application & post it on a Application Server - but, publishing it on Portal allows you to collect many such similar applications. Portal is usually used as a sinlg epoint of access for many similar / related kinds of applications.
Good Luck !

Oracle 11g Server Installation and Configuration
Hi All..

Do somebody now a valid link for downloading Oracle Aplication Server 9i for HP-UX 10.20
I guess http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/devuse.html is the official link, with the many different editions.
And down at the bottom on that page you have a link to release 2, 9.0.2, if that is what you are looking for. -
Install oracle Aplication Server
Hi,
I want to install oracle Aplication Server but i don't know what version n release of Oracle database support OAS version 4.0.7 and 9ias version 1.0.2.0.0 ?

Not a problem, there are some differences and some features are just not supported but this is all documented in the release
notes. You do not Application Server to run Developer Server.
: ....Do I have to install in the same machine that is already

Designer/2000 Repository has nothing to do with the Web. Typically your Web Server will be on a separate machine, it may
exist on the database server depending on load.

Depending on load you may or may not want to put anything on the database server. You can as long as there is enough memory
and CPU to handle all of the components.

Web Server Generator creates PL/SQL packages and procedures that are stored in the database. It basically allows for dynamic
web page creation based on information in the database. If you
use this option then you need Oracle Application Server and
install the PL/SQL cartridge. See the release and install notes
for more information.

Re-install of Oracle HTTP Server in a configured environment
OS: Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5 64 bit
Hyperion: v11.1.2.0
Web Server1: SharedServices, Calc, EAS, APS, Planning installed and configured. They are working from URL and clients.
We ran into issues with Workspace configuration. If we have to re-install Oracle HTTP server on the web server, will it affect the current configuration adversely? In other words, do we need to start all over again?
Has anyone else run into similar or related issues? How were you able to resolve it?
This is related to another thread I have on this forum. It is related but these are different issues and we are trying to see how we can proceed while waiting for support to respond.
Configuration of Workspace failed
Any thoughts/ suggestions?
Thanks,The errors I see in the config log are:

Oracle Aplication Server and Infrastructure
Hi,
I have three servers: production, development for databases and Aplication Server (middletier). In the production server has a infrastructure for the Aplication Server. But i don't know if is it correct install on development server another infrastructure for the same Aplication Server?
Can somebody help me with an answer ? Thank you very muchNot clear if I understand anything yet...
Architecture
PROD Server 1: Oracle DB (hopefully 10.2.0.3) + Application Server 10g (10.1.2.0.2) Infrastructure
PROD Server 2: Application Server 10g (10.1.2.0.2) Middle-tier (Forms)
Now, you have yet another server:
DEV Server 3: Oracle DB (hopefully 10.2.0.3)
What's now your question?
1. Are you asking how to have the Forms on PROD Server 2 accessing data on DEV Server 3? or,
2. Wanting to install another Application Server (Forms) on DEV Server 3?
Solutions:
1. Just add an entry in your formsweb.cfg (userid=) pointing to the new DB server
2. Either install Infrastructure + Middletier on DEV Server 3 (or install App Server Forms & Reports Standalone)

9i - How to Determine If Oracle Management Server Has Been Configured ?
hi all,
I'm using 9.2 on a Windows 2000 server - but I'm new to this server and don't know what has been done in the past.
I'm getting the VTK-1000 error when I try to connect in Oracle Management Server mode.
To determine the problem, I need to know how I can determine whether the Oracle Management Server has been created/configured. Also, how can I know that the Repository has been created?
This is what I've tried:
-Tried logging in as sysman with a password of oem_temp
- checked the Windows services - none exist as OracleManage... which causes me to think OMS was never configured
But I dont want to destroy something that may already exist. That's why I want to confirm first.
Sorry for the lame question - I'm new to Oracle.
Thanks, JohnWell, then you don't have the SYSMAN password. Here you have two options, the first one, is to try to recover that repository or the second option, to get rid of this repository and create a brand new one.
If you are willing to use the existing repository, then you will have to reset sysman's password, the procedure to perform this task is as follows:
Connect by means of SQLPlus to the repository, you should open a session with the OEM repository database owner. In case you don't have this password (most probably) you will have to temporarily reset this password, as outlined on the bottom procedure.
Open a session to the database as the OEM repoistory owner, let's say OEM_REP or whatever is the actual repository.
sqlplus <OEMRepositoryOwner>/<OEMRepositoryOwnerPassword>@<OEMRepository>
At the SQL prompt issue the command:
execute smp_maintenance.reset_sysman();
Your sysman password will be reset to OEM_TEMP, then you can enter if the repository is up and running, and you can issue commands to check status and shutdown it.
Temporarily resetting a db user password:
1. Connect to the database as sysdba:
sqlplus / as sysdba
2. At the sqlplus prompt query the dba_users table to get the password:
select username, password from dba_users where username='<OEMRepositoryOwner>';
Copy the current password in a safe place.
3. Set a new password, let's say 'X'.
Alter user <OEMRepositoryOwner> identified by X;
4. Once you are done with the previous reset sysman procedure, then you can restore the user password:
alter user <OEMRepositoryOwner> identified by values '<PreviouslyEncodedSavedPassword>';
Then you are done.

Or I guess a related question is what version of apache comes with the latest App Server Patch Set (10.1.3.4.0)?
We are running OAS 10.1.3.3.x and we are having issues with URLs that end in a number but which have query parameters at the end.
E.g. http://<stuff_here>/1?type=table&format=html
The URLs come from REST-ful GET operations. It seems like the HTTP server just ignores the query parameters completely.
When we run against stand-alone OC4J which includes an embedded HTTP server, such URLs work as expected.
We are hoping that perhaps the latest patch set for the full Oracle Application Server 10g will overcome this issue.
But if we need to move to a later Oracle HTTP Server (like the one that comes as an option for the Oracle 11g database installation) we would be willing to do so.
Comments related to this are welcome.
Thanks
JimHi,
Does anyone have experiece getting Apex working with secured BI publisher?
The error I am getting when PDF printing from Apex to BI pub is:
"ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.
Error failed
OK "
Please note, network services in 11G are already configured; thus I am able to print from Apex to non-secured BI pub.

Install Oracle Application Server on the same machine with Oracle Database
Hello!
I have already have installed on my laptop the oracle Database 10g, and i want to install on the same machine Oracle Application Server; can I do that? After i look on some threads on this forum I understand that all I have to do is to change the default port 1521 of the database to antoher ..let's say 1523...how can I change the port? what files do i have to modify? Oracle Application server can work in good conditions with Oracle XE or I will have the same problem?
My SO is Windows XP Professional SP II, all updates, 512RAM, 2Ghz-CPU
Thanks!Well, you'll have some problems to run simultaneously Database and AS with 512 Mb...
Apart from that, you don't need to start two listeners, you can use just one (the highest version) for both DBs.
If, for any reason, you want to use two, you can change the port within LISTENER.ORA file, normally in ORACLE_HOME\network\admin. -
Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.2 or Oracle Weblogic 11g
Hi
I am trying to find a roadmap for the above servers. Our company is currently looking at upgrading to one of the two from 10.1.2.
We have already got the application to run on 10.1.3.2 and another team is trying to upgrade to Oracle Weblogic 11g.
What do you recommend we do?
Will all new servers only be Oracle Weblogic 11g? Or can we expect releases of Oracle App Server?
Also where can I find a roadmap of this?Hi
I cannot make any officially statement but my gut feeling is down the line Oracle will use Weblogic Server as their core application server in place of their own Oracle Application Server. The main reason being the SAO 11g suite using WLS as the base server. Infact one of the reasons Oracle bought BEA is because of the Weblogic Server product. So I would recommend putting the effort in upgrading your applications and existing domains to WLS instead of Oracle Application server subject to your actual type and nature of applications. Any BPEL, SOA, WebServices can now be deployed on WLS. If any of your exisitng legacy applications deployed on Oracle App Server cannot be deployed on WLS, then check with Oracle Product Mgmt team about the specifics of those apps roadmap regarding app serves. Hope this helps.
Thanks

Configuring Oracle Application Server to use a user friendly url
Hi All,
I am having trouble configuring the apache httpd.conf file within an applicaton server to be able to use user-friendly urls for the infrastructure identity management tools server. I also need this for security reasons as well as hardware reasons - loadbalancing.
At the moment I have a standard setup, whereby the sso application server is using port 7777. I would like the user not to enter the port, but to enter just a standard url, like http://login.<company>.com.au, so that if the user needs to modify oid using the oiddas web application, they can enter something like http://login.<company>.com.au/oiddas/ rather than http://<machine host name>:7777/oiddas/. This would also be used by portal for sso logins.
From the standard installation, Apache was configured as follows:
Port 7777
Listen 7777
ServerName <machine host name>
DocumentRoot <root document folder>
Now reading the documentation from the Oracle Application Server Installation notes for the Http Server, they document how to do this (in the loadbalancer section - this will eventually be used in the hardware setup):
Port 80
Listen 7777
Listen 80
# Virtual Hosts
# This section is mandatory for URLs that are generated by
# the PL/SQL packages of the Oracle Portal and various other components
# These entries dictate that the server should listen on port
# 7777, but will assert that it is using port 80, so that
# self-referential URLs generated specify www.oracle.com:80
# This will create URLs that are valid for the browser since
# the browser does not directly see the host server.oracle.com.
NameVirtualHost <machine ip>:7777
<VirtualHost <nameofmachine>:7777>
ServerName login.<company>.com.au
Port 80
</VirtualHost>
# Since the previous virtual host entry will cause all links
# generated by the Oracle Portal to use port 80, the server.company.com
# server needs to listen on 80 as well since the Parallel Page
# Engine will make connection requests to Port 80 to request the
# portlets.
NameVirtualHost <machine ip>:80
<VirtualHost <nameofmachine>:80>
ServerName login.<company>.com.au
Port 80
<VirtualHost>
Note that I used slightly different names for the url's rather than the oracle names www.oracle.com and server.oracle.com
Now after applying this, I noticed not only could I not go to the oiddas from the original machine name, but also couldnt go there from the new machine name.
Also I was not even able to go to the standard index page whereby you can go to the enterprise manager for the application server, from either names.
The following urls provide me with "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" error message:
http://login.<company>.com.au:7777/
http://<nameofmachine>:7777/
The following urls provide me with "Page Under Construction" error message:
http://login.<company>.com.au/
http://<nameofmachine>/
Could someone please tell me why this is the case, considering I am using the installation procedures Oracle has published within the Oracle Http Server Admistrators Guide (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/web.1012/b14007/netconf.htm#sthref379).
Cheers
RodneyHi Rondey,
Ik think that I can see your probleem.
Just change the following line at your httpd.conf, then restart the component.
First of all if the port is installed with nr. 7777. then the listen process will be on port 7778
the second thing is just try to do the following steps
((Port 80 to Port 7777)))
Listen 7778
%%%% In loadbalancer section %%%%%%
just add the following lines
Listen 80
Listen 8103
Listen 8102
NameVirtualHost *
NameVirtualHost *:8103 or 80
If you want to use this ports (8103 or 8102) for other site (url), then
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName <machine ip> or (host name)

Problem Deploying Oracle PDK Portlet to Oracle Application Server 9.0.4.0
I have a big issue trying to deploy a pdk portlet I have created in JDeveloper (10.1.2). The application is very simple, it consists of 2 JSP's (call them Select.jsp and Display.jsp) and 1 Java Class (Call it DoEverything.java).
The architecture of the system is VERY simple. The Select.jsp is a simple drop down list that is embedded in an html form, with the options in the drop down populated by a method call from DoEverything.java. Once the user selects an option and hits submit, he is sent to the Display.jsp, which is a simple html table that is populated by another method call from DoEverything.java. (Basically the whole system is a simple "view" of a given table in a DB based on the option selected in Select.jsp).
The system works perfect in JDeveloper, where I created it using the Oracle PDK Java Portlet wizard. However I'm running into a problem when I try and take it over to the Application Server. The main documentation I have been following is the: Oracle® Application Server Portal Developer's Guide and in particular the section 6.6.2.4.1 Creating a Connection to Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE where it explains how to connect to the App. Server. The line "The steps that follow describe the procedure for deploying to a standalone instance of Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE. For information about deploying to a full Oracle Application Server instance, please refer to the Oracle JDeveloper online Help system." is the one that is bothering me the most as I am trying to deploy to a full instance of the Oracle Application Server, but I cannot find anywhere that walks me through this in the online JDeveloper help.
Anyway, currently we ftp the appropriate JSP's, Java Class, provider.xml and provider properties files to their respective directories on the Application Server, register the provider and reboot the Http Server. (This has worked before except for the fact that when the user selected an option from the Select.jsp and the request was then sent over to the Display.jsp based on the form action the Display.jsp wasn't recognized. We figured the provider.xml file needed to be edited in this case in order to know where Display.jsp was being kept). In any event nothing seems to be working at the moment and my main concern is that it maybe we should be deploying as EAR/WAR (both of which I'm not super familiar and my second main concern is that it seems most people use JavaBeans and Struts and all sorts of different API's whereas here I just have a fairly simple Java Class back end that connects to the database and creates an object based on the attributes contained in the database (1 object for 1 unique row in the DB) and I want to be sure that the way I have developed this should still work with the Oracle AS. I'm hoping its just a matter of getting the directory structure straightened out and editing the provider.xml file to include all the JSP's.
Sorry for the long post, but if you could address my two main concerns and possible give me or point me towards a good thorough walk through of deploying a simple system (oracle pdk java portlet) like I have developed to the App. Server it would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks a lot.Basically I started to develop this system inside Oracle AS and then when it came time to passing a request to a new page, it crapped out on me on the App. Server. So instead of trying to fix the problem there and then I continued to develop outside Portal and inside Jdeveloper. After a week or two once all my stuff worked perfectly I try and take it back into Portal but only the first JSP of all my Portlets would show up, because as soon as I would submit a form and the action directed me to a new page and Portal would be lost/confused. Obviously I shouldn't have done it that way but none the less...
So now I'm reading through the documentation you pointed me towards and it seems I have to qualify my parameters and then "attach" them to the url which the form will pass to the actioned page. I'm importing numerous classes (...urlUtils, etc) in order to qualify the parameters and then build this url without affecting any parameters currently present that my portlet does not own.
What I'm rambling towards here is all this separation of logic and presentation and the whole nine, implies different people can develop different parts of a 'system' mostly independant of one another...so in my situation I shouldn't in huge trouble yet, since underlying everything is a working system. My issue is with oracle and the App Server. If I take my code which works great outside of the App. Server and I fully qualify parameters and make sure my form actions are constructed using the UrlUtils in order to fully qualify them as well, and then I make sure page parameters are mapped to the proper portlet parameter values....should my system work on the App Server (assuming everything is done properly)....or am I still missing something.
