Oracle documentation for Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure

Hi
I want to install 11g Release 2 "Oracle Grid Infrastrucure" on Aix system without Cluster/RAC option. The requirement is to configure ASM on an Standalone system without any Cluster and RAC. Is there any documentation available for this installation.
I have already checked the below link which provide information on Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10814/toc.htm
Please let know if there is any documentation for Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a standalone system.

Hi there. Well, the installation of Grid Infrastructure would ask you that what kind of installation you want to do, single instance or cluster? If you would choose single instance installation, it would not be much different from doing any other oracle installation. The key factor to do it and why its mandatory is because from 11.2 onwards, ASM can't be managed from DBCA but from its own tool only, ASMCA and that runs from Grid Home. So I don't think that not finding the docs should be a show stopper for you. I haven't done it on AIX so I am not sure that I can be of some help about it. I have done it on OEL 5 and it didn't throw any issues for me.

  • Oracle db / schema installation for BO

    Dear Experts,
I am going to do the BO Setup in our landscape,
Can any one suggest me how to do the following....
    1. How to do the Oracle installation for BO in AIX (UNIX)? Is it a normal installation? or different?
    BOE is on Windows.
    2. How to do the sizing of database?
    3. How to create a database schema in oracle with proper parameters?
    4. What are the parameters we have to maintain in Oracle - init.ora file which is required for BO ?

    Dear
Please check the installation guides on SAP service marketplace
    [http://service.sap.com/installationguides]
There are some specific points that depend on which BO you will install but those are mentioned in the installation guide for BO per database (Oracle, MySQL and so on).
For Oracle you have to perform a database installation as mentioned in the installation guide for Oracle on SAP service marketplace.
The general parameter recommendations for Oracle (SAP note) will also be valid for BO I assume as it's Oracle release dependant and not SAP Software dependant, only point is whether or not its OLTP or OLAP that is used.
    Kind regards

  • Tom Kyte -v- Oracle Documentation - Character Semantics for AL32UTF8 ?

On a unicode database, what is best practice for varchar columns - character semantics or byte semantics ?
Tom Kyte's new book Expert Oracle Database Architecture says "When using a multibyte character set such as UTF8, you would be well advised to use the CHAR modifier in the VARCHAR2/CHAR definition - that is, use VARCHAR2(80 CHAR), not VARCHAR2(80), since your intention is likely to define a column that can in fact store 80 characters of data." (p499). This I would agree with.
Yet, when I read the 10gR2 documentation "Globalization Support Guide", it says "The BYTE and CHAR qualifiers shown in the VARCHAR2 definitions should be avoided when possible because they lead to mixed-semantics databases. Instead, set NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS in the initialization parameter file and define column datatypes to use the default semantics based on the value of NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS. Byte semantics is the default for the database character set."
I'd much rather explicitly state that I'm using character semantics, than relying on some default setting. So who's right ? Tom Kyte, or the Oracle documentation ? Or are they saying different things ?
If I use character semantics, is this going to come back and bite me later ?
I'm using Oracle 10gR2, and the database character set is the default of AL32UTF8, using only VARCHAR columns - not NVARCHAR.
    Thanks,
    Andy Mackie

I would say that both want to say the same thing in a different way.
Whether you always specify CHAR modifier or define NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS to CHAR is the same ... until you decide to change NLS_LENTGH_SEMANTICS to BYTE but this change will only apply to new columns created after NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS parameter change and I wonder why you would to do it.
You have to use character semantics and make a choice: if you don't need to change it, it should not bite you back.

  • Is Ansi c cc compiler for HP-UX require for installation of oracle 9i (9.2)

    Hi.
I'm doing an installation of Oracle 9i 9.2 on HP -UX Itanium version 11i. The installation fails when OUI tries to relink executables. Release note clearly states "Requires Ansi c cc which is located in /opt/ansic/bin".
    Is this Ansi c cc a requirement?. I don't have a /opt/ansic/bin directory.
Help will be greatly appreciated ...!

    Hi.
I've read that already and linked files with the root user, because I don't understand what they mean by enable superuser privileges. Superuser privileges for whom? the oracle user?. How do i do it? by making it a part of root group?. Anyway, as i said, i made those links as the root user and tried to install DB with same result.
Now if you read release notes, it clearly states that ansci c cc is required and is located at /opt/ansic/bin. I'm afraid I don't have that directory, so i assume i have to install ansi c cc. Since this is stated on release note, i consider this information more current.
Please review release note and let me know what you think!.

VNC certainly has it's beauty and advantages. I was under the impression though that the OP is trying to run OUI on a local server console that is runnig a graphical desktop. If that wasn't the case, VNC was certainly a preferable option.I have not done a local GUI console installation of Oracle in years. In fact, I'm known to start foaming at the mouth when discovering a server running X on the console, disabling it interactively, preventing initlevel 5 from ever loading X again, and leave comments of my disgust in inittab. ;-)
If I'm not mistaken then the vncserver does not need to have the X server running since the necessary support is built-in. The installation of X libraries is probably still required, but I'm not sure.It needs a X display manager. And xterm. twm does fine as display manager. Small and minimalistic. Not the greatest of ideas loading an entire Gnome desktop in VNC.
Btw, Apple Mac OS X provides seamless X11 support and uses VNC for screen sharing and even for installing a system remotely. If you use Apple Mac to access a remote Linux system, using ssh with X forwarding is very convenient as it works right out of the box without having to configure the remote Linux server.Nice. OS/X has come a long way the last few years. I recall a time when they pretended there was no "stinking" command line. :-)

  • Oracle 8.i Installation - FOR AIX 5 -

Oracle's policy seems to be 'remove the download when the product becomes obsolete and unsupported'.
Oracle8i has been unsupported for some time now. If you are lucky, a conversation with your Sales Rep and with Oracle Support might provide the software.

But I must admit confusion - why upgrade pieces and expect the non-upgraded pieces to continue working without difficulty? Your mix-and-match approach is a recipie for long-term problem resolution opportunities

  • After Effects CS6 and Premiere Pro CS6 not available for installation for 32-bit systems

After Effects CS6 and Premiere Pro CS6 require a 64-bit operating system and processor to be installed and run.
If you subscribe to Creative Cloud but use a 32-bit computer system, you will not be able to download and install Premiere Pro CS6 or After Effects CS6.
This issue primarily affects users on the Windows operating system, since all supported versions of the Mac OSX operating system are able to run 64-bit applications.
    See this document for details:
"64-bit Windows required for After Effects and Premiere Pro CS6"
In general, you can only download and use applications for which your computer system meets the minimum system requirements.

Who's says that Microsoft can't debug?
I used msconfig, first disabling startup items, -same result.
Enabled all startup items, disabled all non-microsoft services - AE worked!
I re-enabled each service in turn until AE crashed.
The fault was related to an item for a video streaming device I have in my house.  It was Monsoon-multimedia's Vulkano Service.  Sometimes under the old name of Hava, this is an app that acts like a sling-box to send my Cable TV to my screen.  It does load a couple of virtual devices in device manager, and uses a proprietary codec.
I uninstalled the vulkano streamer application and rebooted the external Vulkano device.  I reinstalled the Vulkano and verified it connected to the device and could stream.  Once it did, I tried AE again and IT WORKED!
I wonder if simply rebooting the Vulkano would have fixed it.  Its like opening the garage door to turn on the refridgerator.
    Thanks for the help!

I know its available but cannot find the link to download it, is it not available for download from OTN network ?
If you happen to know the link please let me know or is there a way I can install 11.2.0.1.0 on Solaris 11.
    Thank you for you help.

11/10/11: Patch Set 11.2.0.3 for Linux, Solaris, Windows, AIX and HP-UX Itanium is now available on support.oracle.com.
You have to ask support to send you the cloud link where you can download the binaries OR you can ask them to send you the media also.
It says right on the above link

  • Where should one install Oracle Database and the Grid Infrastructure in order to adhere to OFA?

I've downloaded the two zipped install folders for Oracle Database, and the two zipped install folders for the Grid Infrastructure.  The book I'm following for installation says to use one directory for the database, and one directory for the Grid Infrastructure, but it doesn't explain where they should be located in OFA.  Presumably they should both end up somewhere in the same Oracle Base (since everything Oracle related on a single file system should go in the same base, according to my understanding), but it isn't clear where they should be installed in relation to each other.  For example, is the Grid Infrastructure a separate product that gets its own Oracle Home?  Can anyone shed light on this process?
Also, does it matter to which location the zipped files are unzipped?  For example, are any of these files used after the installation process, or does OFA only care about post-installation location?

I think this links may be helpful -- ORACLE-BASE - Oracle Database 11g Release 2 RAC On Oracle Linux 5.8 Using VirtualBox, http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/hunter-rac11gr2-iscsi-088677.html.
OFA -- Optimal Flexible Architecture standard. The standard is a set of configuration guidelines created to ensure well organized Oracle installations that are easier to maintain (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32002/app_ofa.htm#LADBI440).
It relates to location of the grid and dbms files location. Actually you should specify base directory and follow installer. System will be installed in correct directories.
It does not matter where you will unzip your distributives. You may delete them after installation to free space.

  • Oracle JDK 1.6 for epm11122

    Hi,
I have a very basic question.
For Essbase 11.1.2.2 installation with ( IHS/Websphere) under Linux env. What is the need for installation of Oracle JDK160_21? Is it because Essbase/HSS/EAS are Java files which needs Java Runtime environment to run? Can you please explain a bit.
If yes, are there any document for installing and configure JDK in Linux env? I couldnt find any details regarding this in the epm install guide.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Hari

The EPM installer should deploy a JDK / jrockit which the products will use.
If you do want to install a separate JDK, go to a search engine and type "install JDK Linux" and I am sure you will get lots of results.
