Oracle Express Administrator 6.3.4

I just installed the Express Admin tools and when I open Oracle Express Administrator, I get a "run-time error 380 invalid property value" and then it kicks me right out of the tool. Any ideas how to fix this? Should I re-install?
Thanks,
Carla

The Installer will probably force you to install AWM into a separate oracle home; if it doesn't, then choose to put it into a separate oracle home from your Express products.

  • Problem with Oracle Express Administrator

    Hi everybody,
I want to ask about Oracle Express Administrator,
Please tell me why variable I define in Relational Access always be function in my express? the data always 0.00 too ? I use table Oracle in this
And why always make three database ? after the batch manager ?
Please I'm new with Express Administrator.
    Best Regards,
    Djohan Wahyudi

This is the way every Express object that is modelled gets implemented at the physical level. Each object has a physical storage object, which is a variable that is usually dimensioned by a composite to manage storage sparsity. This physical object is difficult for users to understand as the dimensionality is not based on the presentation format the user will want. Hence, a logical object (a formula) is used to breakout the variable into the base dimensions making it easier for users to interact with from the perspective of creating queries. There is more information in the user guides on this subject.
I would recommend upgrading to 10g Release 2 rather than using Express. The latest release of the database contained an OLAP multi-dimensional engine within the core database. There is no separate engine like there is with Express and the administration and management tools are much easier. Please refer to the OLAP wbsite on OTN for more information:

  • Oracle express administrator-not working

We have installed the oracle express server on Sun solaris unix. I have installed the Express administrator on the deskto and configured the connect XCF file in express connection editor. But I am not able to see the connection string I have created using the connection editor when I open express administrator. But when I open express analyzer I can see the connect string. How to solve this problem? any help will be appreciated.

Try to add the following line in the xadmin.ini file to the [Install] section :
    ECF=ECF634
If your express version is not 6.3.4 then the numbers change according to the version.
If thre is no [Install] section in the ini file add that line too.
    Hope this helps

  • Create hierarchy for a dimension in Oracle Express Administrator

I have a lookup table called 'Location'. This lookup table has a primary key PKLOC which is made up of 2 columns, State Varchar2(20) and City Varchar2(20). This primary key obviously is a lookup for a dimension of one of my cube and the data in the primary key is hierarchical with 2 levels, namely state and city. I need to import this data into my dimension, Location, using Relational import, in the following form.
    eg. Level 1 Level 2
MD ---- Odenton, Baltimore, Fort Meade
    VA ---- Dulles, Fair Fax
where MD and VA will come from the column State Varchar2(20) and Odenton, Baltimore, Fort Meade
Dulles and Fair Fax will come from the column City Varchar2(20).
The values in my lookup table will look like this
    State City
    MD Odenton
    MD Baltimore
    MD Fort Meade
    VA Dulles
    VA Fair Fax
    how do I import it.

You need to do this in your source table.
The source table can look something like this
    qtr_id, qtr_name, month_id, month_name
    1 , Qtr1 , 101 , january
    1 , Qtr1 , 102 , febuary
    1 , Qtr1 , 103 , march
    2 , Qtr2 , 104 , april
    2 , Qtr2 , 105 , may
    2 , Qtr2 , 106 , june
Then map it to the dimension, and maintain it.
Keep in mind that the member(id) fields need to be unique. I.E january 2007 and january 2006 cannot have the same id.

  • Converting from Oracle Express Objects to Standard Form

    Hi,
I have create an EIF file from our Oracle Express database, then I have created an Analytic Workspace and imported the EIF file. After this I identify the Time dimensions. But when I want to identify the hierarchie dimension of each time dimension, it brings an Error: "ORA-34492: Analytic Workspace Object Jan96 does not exists", but when I look in the OX there exists the object. Where is the problem?
    Thanks Diana

Did you run the conversion program listed in the documentation:
If your Express database contains Oracle Express Objects metadata (that is, it was created by Oracle Express Administrator), then you can use a conversion program named CREATE_DB_STDFORM. Without Oracle Express Objects metadata, CREATE_DB_STDFORM cannot generate sufficient standard form metadata for the OLAP tools to work.
This should generate the required metadata but you will not to create some additional attributes to correctly manage time as the conversion utility does not do everything for you:
If you want to perform time-based analysis on your data, you must identify all time dimensions and populate end date and time span attributes before using CREATE_DB_STDFORM. A sample program is provided in this appendix:
Create date and time span attributes for each dimension.
    DEFINE TIME_TIME_SPAN VARIABLE INTEGER <timedim hierdim>
    PROPERTY 'USERDATA' FALSE
    DEFINE TIME_END_DATE VARIABLE DATE <timedim hierdim>
    PROPERTY 'USERDATA' FALSE
Populate the end date and time span attributes, as described in "Populating Time Attributes".
Set properties on the Time dimension:
    CONSIDER timedim
    PROPERTY 'END_DATE' attribute_name
    PROPERTY 'TIME_SPAN' attribute_name
The END_DATE and TIME_SPAN values (attribute_name) identify the names of the variables that you just created.
Run the conversion tool with a command like this:
    CALL CREATE_DB_STDFORM('aw')
Refer to the syntax description in "CREATE_DB_STDFORM Syntax". After the conversion tool completes successfully, save the changes:
    UPDATE
    COMMIT
    Hope this helps

  • Building the Hierarchy in Express Administrator

    Hi,
I have created few dimentions and Fact using Oracle Express Administrator and have imported the relational table data into them. Now I want to build the hierarchy for my time dimention (Year, Month, Quarter, Date). How to do that efficiently? I have tried "Edit data" option and have created the hierarchy manually by dragging and dropping the data for the "Standard" hierarchy, but it does not seem to be a good way-out as I have more than 5years data (date) in 4 different levels. Can anybody give me a better solution to build the hierarchy?
    Thanx in advance

    Hi Supriyo,
You have to offer the parent-child relationship information to Express. Your relational table data structure should contain a parent field like this (";" = field separator):
    2000
    2001
    2002
    Q1-00;2000
    Q4-02;2002
    01-00;Q1-00
    12-02;Q4-02
    01-01-00;01-00
    12-31-02;12-02
Then You can use Import item (I suppose from menu File) or - for dimensions easier way - using wizard but I don't remember where to find it. The result is the same. It will lead You through describing Your input data structure, then it reads the data and updates all appropriate metaobjects. But I'm not sure where the input data can be in a relational table - we used text files.
Input data are read using self-generated loader (in SPL) - I can offer You it's generalized but simplified version. If You don't know SPL, You can ignore it. Otherwise You can implement it for Your purposes - I think it's possible to read the data directly from relational tables (read doc. & Help).
The program has three parameters - name of the input file, name of the dimension and name of the hierarchy (You can have more hierarchies in a dimension - then it's the preferable to have each in a separate file).
    We consider 4 fields:
    1. dimension value
    2. long label
    3. short label
    4. parent (as shown in the example above)
(each column means separate Express object; You can add other columns when You define objects for them first and modify the program)
    define Prg_AktDim program
    "consider Prg_AktDim
    program
    argument jms text
    argument jmDim text
    argument jmHie text
    variable prefixDb text
    variable prefixDim text
    variable f integer
vrb _Pass integer " current pass or NA if one-pass "
vrb _tStart text " text start delimiter "
vrb _TEnd text " text end delimiter "
vrb _FSep text " field separator "
    prefixDb = extchars (obj(property 'SHORTLABELVAR' jmDim) 1 3) "30.5. joinchars (upcase (extchars (dtb(name) 1 2)) '.')
    if extchars (prefixDb 3 1) ne '.'; then prefixDb = extchars (prefixDb 1 2)
    prefixDim = obj(property 'idcode' jmDim)
    _Pass = 2
    _TStart = '"'
    _TEnd   = '"'
    _FSep   = ';'
if not isValue (&joinchars (prefixDb prefixDim '.HIERDIM'), jmHie)
then maintain &joinchars (prefixDb prefixDim '.HIERDIM') add jmHie
    trap on error
    f = fileopen(jms read)
    " FILEREAD SPECIFICATIONS for pass 2 "
    fileread f -
structured textstart TStart textend TEnd delimiter _FSep -
    FIELD 1 STRIP append &jmDim -
FIELD 2 STRIP &joinchars (prefixDb prefixDim '.SHORTLABEL') -
FIELD 3 STRIP &joinchars (prefixDb prefixDim '.LONGLABEL') -
FIELD 4 STRIP &joinchars (prefixDb prefixDim '.PARENT')(&joinchars (prefixDb prefixDim '.HIERDIM') jmHie) -
&jmDim = &joinchars (prefixDb prefixDim '.PARENT')(&joinchars (prefixDb prefixDim '.HIERDIM') jmHie)
    call &('xp_dmhiercalc')(jmDim jmHie )
    fileclose f
    return
    error:
if f ne NA; then fileclose f
    END
The program doen't update most metaobjects (only 3 of 16:-( so I can't guarantee that the Oracle Express Objects tables (mainly Selector) will work correctly but by us it worked:-)
    Good luck!

  • Unable Logging in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services

I am new for DB. Installed Oracle XE, followed the instruction "Logging in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services", I can not find the login page:
    http://127.0.0.1:7777/pls/apex/apex_admin
I work on the PC in which XE installed.
    Where are these two files
    ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\install\portlist.ini
    ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\Apache\Apache\conf\httpd.conf
    I did a search, can't find them.
    Any help welcome.
    Thanks.

The default port for the Apex webserver is 8080, not 7777.
To access the XE Database GUI from the Start menu, select Programs (or All Programs), then Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, and then Go to Database Home Page. (I'm assuming your on Windows)
Or try: http://localhost:8080/apex in your browser.
The files you mention relate to Apache web server. Oracle XE does not include a Apache, it's web server is built into the database. Are you sure you're following the right documentation? See http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/homepage

  • How can I login to Oracle Express Ed 11g Rel 2 on windows XP 32bit?

I installed Oracle Express Ed 11g Release 2 32bit on windows XP 32bit and I can not login ito it. Installation asked for a password to be created at installation which I used to login with.
The login window is started from a shortcut that installation created on my desktop. I tried to download and install three times. I went thru a SW removable before another download. The login responds with "Invalid Login Credentials"
I have admin rights to my PC. What could be the issue?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

What could be the issue? Could be many different causes. Mistyping the password is one, or the database could be offline but in most cases that will give a different error message. Open a command box, Start/Run/cmd and try:
    $ sqlplus /nolog
    connect system
    ... Password ... <the one used with the installer> ... Connected.
    select name from v$database;
login window is started from a shortcut If you're talking about the Apex page, the one that opens a web browser to http://<hostname>:8080/apex and that one needs Apex credentials, not database user credentials. Apex users can be mapped to database users but that is something done via the apex administrator.
Two database accounts "out of the box" are SYS and SYSTEM users, those are special- SYS owns the catalog, SYSTEM is a user with dba role privileges, almost as powerful within the database as the SYS user.

  • Oracle Express Server v.6.3.1.0 installation problem

I downloaded oes6301nt.exe - Oracle Express Server - NT (118MB) from the Oracle web site, unzipped it and start using Universal Installer to install it for stage/product.jar. I specified Oracle Home as OraExpress81 and path as F:\Oracle Express\olap and chose a typical installation.
At about 98% completion, I got an error: Invalid Search Spec or no DLLs found F:\Oracle*.dll on a error meassge box with an OK button. I clicked the OK button and the installation went to 100% and gave me a message "The installatio of Oracle Express Server was successful. I then re-booted the machine.

  • Using OBIEE with Oracle Express Edition Database? SOLVED

I have a client that wants a quick demo of OBIEE. They sent us some csv files as the data source. I migrated them to Excel files for easier use, but the Excel files seem to have limitations on how I can combine the columns, such as concatenating and formatting.
I then loaded them into an Oracle Express Edition database, assuming more "database" functionality would be available to me. I was able to load them into the Administration Tool, but Answers gives me the following error when I try to view any results from the Express database:

  • Oracle Express Performance

    Hi,
We are using Oracle Express 6.3.2 & Oracle 8.1.5 for a decision
support system that we are building.
We are using a server with 2GB RAM, Dual CPU( 550MHz) along with
more than 100 GB HDD.The OS being used is Windows NT enterprise
edition server 4.0.On which both Oracle Relational database and
    Express express server resides.
    The building of multi-dimensional database(MDDB) doesn't take
time, we are using around 9 dimensions with total data in MDDB
being in the range of 5- 10 Lakhs records. The building time is
    about 3 minutes.
However, the running of an application(XPJ) based on the MDDB
takes lot of time. The report takes about 2 Minutes to appear
and situtation is even worse in what-if analysis kind of
reports!.The MDDB is being accessed from Windows NT Client
workstation 4.0 with 128 MB RAM.
We have read Oracle Express Performance Tuning and Database
Design Guide which is available from both Oracle Technology
Network (technet.oracle.com) and Metalink, however it doesn't
seem to be of much help. The sparsity etc. have been taken care
    of by us.
CAN ANYBODY PROVIDE ASSISTANCE ON THIS ISSUE OR IS IT NORMAL
THING TO EXPECT FROM ORACLE EXPRESS????...., .Request someone to
respond to this issue, as it very urgent & bothersome to us.
    Thanks

    Dear Friend,
I am trying to configure reports for express data and in this regard I have done the following :
1.Machine A having reports 9i Developer suite Release 2 and Pluggable Express Connection Editor installed on Windows 2000 professional.
2.Machine B having which Express Server 6.3.4 installed on Windows 2000 professional.
3.In Machine A created user OESDBA with Administrator privilige.
In the reports I am able to connect to the Express Server and attach the database and choose the measure.Once all the other steps are done I am able to print the data on the reports.
But if I use a parameter form in which I give the HOST,USER and PASSWORD then substitute the same in the express_server parameter value in the AFTER PARAMETER FORM trigger block then the report gives an error saying that
Express query contains incorrect, missing or damaged information.
How to solve this error ?
    Can you please help.

  • HELP : OAS 4.0 & Oracle Express on NT

    Hi,
I am trying to run the example Samples application in Oracle Express Web Agent User's guide on IE 5.0 web browser. I have installed Oracle Express 6.3 along with its Web agent component. After starting Oracle Express service & installing OAS 4.0 & starting all its services & HTTP listeners from its Administrator's applet, I try to open the first page of the Samples application(it has the title: Oracle Express Web Agent {Samples}) which is opened successfully but when I click on any of the two links on that page I get a page not found error. The OAS administration applet shows that all the services are running except the Web agent & Web agent RPC services which are shown as not running(red flags). How do you start the Web agent services ? Is configuration & set up for web agent easier on Solaris ?
Also I don't have access to "Oracle Express Web Products installation guide" as its link(http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/exp_server/doc_index.htm) is broken. I don't know whether having this guide would make any difference. I am desperately trying to make the Web interface work without any success so far. Please let me know how to fix this problem.
    Thanks in advance,

    Check the following things:
    1. Express Server 6.3 is up and running.
    2. OAS 4.0 is installed in its own home directory.
    3. You have un-commented the correct html line in .../sample/index.html file. CGI or cartridge???
    4. You have moved oowa.cfg and oowa.exe in the OAS executable directory, and edited oowa.cfg with correct configuration.
Express Web Products installation guide explains all the steps for NT in detail.

  • Preparing for Oracle OCA 11g using an Oracle Express 10g database

As a software application developer, I have been considering Oracle certification for a while to enhance my skill set. Unfortunately I don't have access to a commercial Oracle installation, and would like to use a free version of Oracle Express during my studies. The latest OCA courses largely focus on Oracle 11g, and it would appear that there is no free (Express) 11g database available yet.
Could anyone please advise me whether it would be possible and practical to prepare for the 1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I and 1Z0-052 Oracle Database 11g: Administration I exams using an Oracle Express 10g database instance, while accompanied by the relevant Oracle 11g study material? In other words, is the overlap between Oracle 10g and 11g sufficient that a solid understanding of 10g could allow me to successfully sit the 11g exams? Furthermore, would the Express edition of the database provide sufficient functionality to prepare for the Administration exam?

(http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1080544&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_051 says Exam 051 has been validated against Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Database 11g. Training on either version will be appropriate preparation.).
For 1z0-052 the situation is different. Oracle 10g express edition hides some of the administration tasks ... you really need to be using 11g.
If you dont waht Oracle 11g all over your regular machine then I would typically recommend install Oracle Enterprise Linux either on a spare machine with a dual core or HT processor and with 2GB or more of memory (eg Dell gx280 or better); or using a virtualisation solution on your current machine (ram would need to be 3GB or higher) (eg virtualbox or whatever ... though windows as a guest can have a license issue).

  • Oracle Express Remote Installation - Error 1628

    Hi
I'm currently getting error 1628 during the installation of Oracle Express on a machines with Windows XP SP2.
The installation of Oracle Express is being performed silently using a patch management/software distribution tool such as BigFix. The installation of this product is initiated when a non-admin user accepts an action from the patch management server to install Oracle Express. When the action is accepted OracleXEUniv.exe installer executes as the LOCAL SYSTEM account and NOT the logged in user. Again this user is a domain user but does not have local admin privileges. While this approach does NOT work for a non-admin user, it does work for a user with local admin privileges.
On a related note ... I was able to test the installation of OracleExpress using the patch management server while no one was logged into the machine. The installation ran as the LOCAL SYSTEM account and was successful.
Can someone explain what level of privileges is required by the Oracle Express installer, why would Oracle Express fail to install while logged in as a non-admin user if the installation process shows that OracleXEUniv.exe is being executed as the LOCAL SYSTEM (reported through theTask Manager)
    Thank you in advanced.
    Jose

    Hi,
Thanks for the link; it was helpful. However, I'm curios to know why would the installation complete with the LOCAL SYSTEM account when I'm logged off the machine but not when I'm logged in as a non-admin user while the job is running in the background as the LOCAL SYSTEM (LOCAL SYSTEM part of the Local Admin group). Again this process is being initiated by a software distribution tool not by a user or administrator. This is how I'm able to define the run as user.
Originally when I logged into the machine as a non-admin user the job would fail with error 1628 even though it is executed as the LOCAL SYSTEM user. However, when I'm logged off the machine (Windows Login Prompt visible at the screen) the installation completes successfully.
I just wonder How and When does the Windows Installer know what user is being used for the installation of Oracle Express?
    Thank you in advanced.
