Oracle Grid Installer cannot list available disks

Hi all,
I'm trying to install Oracle Database 11g R2 64-bit with ASM on an Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5 64-bit.
The problem I'm facing is that the Grid Infrastructure Installer cannot list available disks. In the setp of creating Diskgroups, I only see blank disk.
Following the main actions I took:

Hi Srini,
I have tried as you mentioned like installing Java in C:\Java... and I have tried the by setting the JRE_LOCATION of local path. No use of it.
tried with -jreloc and setting the java path in environment variables too.
As I understand, the problem i have seen at files copied path is not expected as required. Please see the path below...
C:\DOCUME~1\v859971\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2013-09-06_03-36-31PM\jre\bin\javaw.exe.
After running the Setup.exe -deinstall... temporary folder is creating with timestamp and all the required files are coping here...
"jre" folder also created and copied required java files directly into jre folder, but not in jre\bin folder.
folder path is like this
C:\DOCUME~1\v859971\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2013-09-06_03-36-31PM\jre\javaw.exe.
Setup application is expecting jre\bin\javaw.exe, but folder structure is created as jre\javaw.exe. There it is coming the issue.
I have even tried with copying all the files into bin folder and executed the setup.exe, it again creating a new temporary file
not able to resolve it...

  • Oracle GRID Installation

    Hello Everyone,
We are planning for a Oracle DB Upgrade and it includes several other upgrades as well including storage, hardware, OS and SAP etc.
In the process we need to install the Oracle Grid. As per the SAP recommended installation we should use /oracle directory for the oracle, but oracle is saying to go for  /opt directory for this. For the information we will be using RHEL 6 and Oracle 11.2.0.4 Grid. Is it going to create some issue in future and what about the BRTools*. Have anyone faced this situation before?
    Thanks.
    Kind Regards
    Anand

    Hi Anand,
Please refer to below SAP note for configuration

Follow SAP suggestions as it would be useful in future from support perspective.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installation cannot find a disk to install on

    Hello,
Very short version of the problem:
*Tiger installation does not detect any harddrive to install to*
    Full story:
Yesterday I bought my very first iMac. It's a 20" wirh 2Gb ram and 300Gb disk.
It was preinstalled with Tiger. I did the updrade to Leopard mself. No problems there.
Then I treid to install Windows using bootcamp.
Since then, a lot of problems.
The system will not start anymore.
So, since this is a fresh system, I have no problem starting all over again.
I can't directly start with Leopard since they are only upgrade disks, so have to install Tiger first.
When I have the install-1 Tiger disk in the CD and start the system, the upgrade
    starts.
*But at a certain point it shows the box with available Harddrives to install to.*
*That box is empty on my screen !!!!*
*This is the problem: The apple cannot find my harddrive anymore.*
does anybody have a clue what to do now?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thanks for the replies...
    FYI.
I have cloned an Oracle 9i database on a DR test server.
Now I am installing Oracle Application server 10g Forms and Reports (9.0.4) on Solaris 5.10
This is using a Oracle CD which is for Solaris 5.9 but using twp patches supplied by oracle to run the CD from. So it is able to run on Solaris 5.10. It has been done before but by some past DBA some 5 years ago. This is the first time I am attempting this being a new employee here.
    I have implemented these suggestions.
Especially the fact that it was looking for a gunzip utuility which it couldn't find. To make it easirer Ij ust copied the gunzip utility to the place it was looking for, and renamed it unzip. As it was loooking for unzip
    This worked and passed through.
Created the temp temp directory as welll so it would not have issues in not writting to the tmp directory.
The error I'm getting is below
    bash-3.2$ pwd
    /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/ForSolaris5_10/4494701
    bash-3.2$ /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/SOLARIS/RUNINSTA -paramFile /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/ForSolaris5_10/4494701/ORAPARAM.INI

  • Oracle 9i Installer Won't Even Launch??

Hi, I have a brand new installation of Windows 2000 Server with SP 3 on a P-II 366 with 256 megs ram. When I try to run setup.exe on CD 1, I get the following error right away:
"The Java Runtime Environment was not found at c:\docume~1\admini~1\locals~1\temp\orainstall\jre\bin\jrew.exe. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run. Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.1.7 or greater and try again."
I've tried downloading and installing the latest (and even older) versions of JRE. Nothing works. Does anyone know the fix for this? Why won't this install under Windows 2000??? Thanks in advance.
    ...Brad

Well, I figured it out. It was indeed the CDs I had created. Turns out, that the
download (and yes, it was a .zip file not an ISO as I had said previously)
has characteristics such that it can only be properly burned to CD with
certain settings. In NERO, I had to select Mode 2 rather than Mode 1 and
    ISO9660 standard isn't comatible either.
I had just burned the uncompressed zip images to CD so I could easily take
them to the test server and in so doing, had made changes to the format or
filenames such that the installer couldn't run. Pretty crazy because I've
copied tons of stuff to CD before, but only now have I ever encountered this
sort of situation. I couldn't even copy back from the CD to the hard
drive because the damage had already been done.
I hope the other poor souls who did what I do read this before they pull their hair out. Thanks for everyone's comments.
    ...Brad

  • How do I define 2 disk groups for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window

    Hello,
It may sound too easy to someone but I need to ask it anyway.
I am in the middle of building Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 on Linux. I have 2 storage and I created three LUNs in each of storage so 6 LUNs in total look in both of servers. If I choose NORMAL as a redundancy level, is it right to choose my 6 disks those are created for OCR_VOTE at the grid installation? Or should I choose only 3 of them and configure mirroring at latter stage?
The reason why I am asking this is that I didn't find any place to create asm disk group for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window. In fact, I would to like to create two disk groups in which one of groups contains three disks those were brought from storage 1 and the second one contains rest three 3 disk that come from the last storage.
I believe that you will understand the manner and help me on choosing proper way.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    You have 2 Storage H/W.
You will need to configure a Quorum ASMDisk to store a Voting Disk.
Because if you lose 1/2 or more of all of your voting disks, then nodes get evicted from the cluster, or nodes kick themselves out of the cluster.
You must have the odd number of voting disk (i.e 1,3 or 5)  one voting disk per ASM DISK, So 1 Storage will hold more voting disk than another storage.
    (e.g 3 Voting Disk - 2 voting stored in stg-A and 1 voting disk store in stg-B)
If fail the storage that hold the major number of  Voting disk the whole cluster (all nodes) goes down. Does not matter if you have a other storage online.
    It will happen:

  • ASM installation failure from Oracle GRID under Windows 7 64 bit

    I am a rookie..I am running Oracle database 11gR2 running on a Windows 7 64 bit system.
I am implementing ASM onto my system solely for learning purposes
The implementation of ASM has changed between database releases 11gR1 and 11gR2 such that it is no longer configured locally but is now implemented from within Oracle GRID. Unfortunately, the book I am using to study my OCP from was written at the time of 11gR1 so I can no longer follow its instructions to create and configure ASM. Instead of using DBCA I now need to use ASMCA to configure ASM.
As a preliminary requirement I successfully installed Oracle Grid and configured it to run on my standalone server.
I created two partitions on my harddrive ...... drive G: and drive H: with intent of using them as my ASM disks. 45 Gig and 50 gig in size respectively formatted with the NTFS filesystem.
I ran ASMCA in an attempt to create an ASM instance
I specified these partition drives '\\.\G:' and '\\.\H:' in the disk discovery path which were successfully picked up.
However when ASMCA executed the creation process after some time it failed with the following message:
One or more diskgroup(s) creation failed as below:

    Hello,
To resolve this issue, first reconfigure your ASMlib using following steps:
    [root@host02 ~]# ll -ltr /dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK0*
    brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 17 May 15 11:05 /dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK01
    brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 18 May 15 11:05 /dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK02

    brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 23 May 15 11:05 /dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK06
    brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 24 May 15 11:05 /dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK07
    brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 25 May 15 11:05 /dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK08
If the permission is not like this then do the following:
    *[root@host02 ~]# oracleasm configure -i*

  • Local node not included in the list of host names for grid installation

I'm attempting to install clusterware on Solaris 11 on 2 nodes. I've tried tweaking the /etc/hosts file in a few different ways by including the fully-qualified name and without it for the localhost, but it still gives me this error every time. The runcluvfy.sh script doesn't run on Solaris 11. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
I've tried this using the silent install and with OUI, but got the same error both ways. This is the format of the node names:
    oracle.install.crs.config.clusterNodes=myLocalNode:myLocalNode-vip1,myOtherNode:myOtherNode-vip2
[FATAL] [INS-40907] Local node not included in the list of host names for grid installation.
CAUSE: The local node (the node where you are running the installer) was missing from the list of host names you provided.
ACTION: Include the local node in the list of host names for grid installation.

    Hi,
what Oracle Version are you trying to install?
Best to directly start with 11.2.0.3 and look in MOS for certification, hints requirements.

  • Unable to find disk 2. Installation cannot continue.

    RDBMS Version: 9.2.0
Operating System and Version: Red Hat Linux release 9 (Shrike)
Unable to find disk 2. Installation cannot continue.
Hello, I have been trying to install Oracle 9i Release 2 into a Red Hat Linux release 9 (Shrike) machine with no success. The installer hangs with "Unable to find disk 2. Installation cannot continue." even if it is configured in the .rsp file the parameters that specify the path to the other disks.
In some posts I found here (in metalink) there were references to 2 different variable names: FROM_LOCATION_DISK2 or LOCATION_FOR_DISK2 and FROM_LOCATION_DISK3 or LOCATION_FOR_DISK3. Both were set. Parameter FROM_LOCATION_CD_LABEL were also set with value "orcl920" (from the disk.label) and the names of the directories where the install disks where extracted have names like Disk1, Disk2 and Disk3. (I saw in the documentation that if the parameters of the other disks, 2 and 3, were not set in the response file, the installer would look for directories named Disk2 and Disk3 in directories 2 or 3 levels above products.jar, which is located in a subdirectory of Disk1).
I know this is not a certified combination of OS+DB but it´s just a test DB and won´t be put in production and even this config won´t be put in production in any site but it´s strange that a certification problem could raise an error in this level (what I would expect are linking and dependencies errors and not the impossibility of finding the install disks that are in the same file system and even specified by the parameters).
Is there another way to specify the location of these disks? Through a comand line parameter of the installer, for example, an enviroment variable or even other parameters in different files....
    Thanks in advance.
    Mauricio.

  • Oracle documentation for Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure

    Hi
I want to install 11g Release 2 "Oracle Grid Infrastrucure" on Aix system without Cluster/RAC option. The requirement is to configure ASM on an Standalone system without any Cluster and RAC. Is there any documentation available for this installation.
I have already checked the below link which provide information on Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10814/toc.htm
Please let know if there is any documentation for Installation for Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a standalone system.

Hi there. Well, the installation of Grid Infrastructure would ask you that what kind of installation you want to do, single instance or cluster? If you would choose single instance installation, it would not be much different from doing any other oracle installation. The key factor to do it and why its mandatory is because from 11.2 onwards, ASM can't be managed from DBCA but from its own tool only, ASMCA and that runs from Grid Home. So I don't think that not finding the docs should be a show stopper for you. I haven't done it on AIX so I am not sure that I can be of some help about it. I have done it on OEL 5 and it didn't throw any issues for me.

Hi. I'd really like a fix for this as it's driving me crazy. I used to be able to access this menu by the usual keyboard shortcut of Win+X. For some time now (perhaps since the 8.1 upgrade), nothing pops up when I try it. I thought perhaps Windows 8.
