  • Does OracleExpress 10g contain: Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Net Manag

Does OracleExpress 10g contain: Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Net Manager and Oracle Net Configuration Assistant ?
If yes: How do I call them ? What is the *.exe file of these programs ?
If no: Are they separate programs by 3rd party companies or only part of the full featured Standard Oracle distribution ?

Does OracleExpress 10g contain: Oracle Enterprise
Manager, Oracle Net Manager and Oracle Net
    Configuration Assistant ? No.
XE is designed with the intention that it is the only Oracle database on the machine and therefore does not need a NetMgr or NetCA.
OEM is not included, nor can it be fully used because of it's use of Java Stored Procs and Perl. (Some OEM functionality DOES work, but it's not complete.)
Instead, APEX 2.1 provides the related functionality.
If yes: How do I call them ? What is the *.exe file
    of these programs ?See above
    >
If no: Are they separate programs by 3rd party
companies or only part of the full featured Standard
Oracle distribution ?These programs are offered by Oracle, but have specific requirements and assumptions that are not met in XE. They are available, and included with Standard Edition One and above - SE1, SE, EE and PE (in order of feature capability).

  • Oracle net manager is not listed....

    Hi People,
Have a small problem with the installation of oracle client, for some reason oracle net manager is not installed or at least not listed in start menu programs. Does any one have an idea how to access this tool if it is not listed in the start menu? (I am pretty sure it was installed when I was running the oracle 10g client on windows Xp)
    Many Thanks...

Can you not use Oracle Universal Installer?

  • Oracle net manager in oracle 10g

    Hi expert
How can I define the odbc connection - host/access right, in oracle 10g?

  • Oracle Net manager error

    Aloha!
I have just created a database instance on oracle 11g R2. When i tried to create a connection to that said instance on net manager from a certain client machine
    i'm prompted with this error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
but on the server itself i can access the instance through SQLplus as sysdba.
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Regards,
    Hades

ORA-12514:     TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
Cause: The listener received a request to establish a connection to a database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener specified a service name for a service (usually a database service) that either has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance has registered with the listener.
    Action:
    - Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
    - Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name>
    - Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener.
    - If an easy connect naming connect identifier was used, check that the service name specified is a service known by the listener.
    - Check for an event in the listener.log file.

  • Naming Service in Oracle Net Manager

    Hello,
I've downloaded ODTwithODAC1020221.exe and did the install ODP.NET sucessfully and when I try to create a Naming Service by Clicking on the + icon nothing happens.
I have a working TNSNAMES.ORA in the ADMIN/NETWORK folder where I installed the ODP.NET. In the same folder I have SQLNET.ORA and a LISTENER.ORA files.
I am using Visual Basic 2005 for my GUI.
    Thank you,
    Fred

I click on the '+' sign or use the menu 'create' option but I do not get a screen to enter any information.
I hard coded my tnsnames connection in my application and it work fine.
Thanks for getting back to me with the information and link. I've tried all possible combination without successfully being able to use the 'Naming Service' function.

  • Oracle 11g Net Manager - A valid "SID" is required

    Windows XP SP3
    Oracle Database 11g
    Hi all.
I get an Invalid Entry message box with the message: 'A valid "SID" is required' when I open Oracle Net Manager, select the listener from the Listeners node and then attempt to Save or move to another node.
Can anybody help? Ultimately, I want to configure the Advanced Security options but so far I cannot save the new configuration.
    Thanks,
    Leo.

    Hi Flaz,
Thanks for replying. I have no idea what "SID" the error is reffering to so I've included the contents of my listener.ora file. The listener works fine but I can't configure some of the advances options.

This is an 11g listener. All of these values were put in via the dbca/netca. The only manual entry was the addition of the 10g databases. I want the listener to be used for all databases so that I only have to run one listener.
    Thanks again.

  • Oracle Net Services for XE

    Regards.
As you can remember in earlier versions to Oracle 10g, there used to be a tool named "netmgr" which was very helpful to manage the listener an tnsnames configuration through a application (which allows also to test connections), instead of manipulating this files manually.
My question is if the newest versions of DB client (including XE) includes any kind of Oracle Net Manager? I've downloaded and installed the Oracle XE Client, nevertheless, at first sight it doesn't have any kind of net mananger tool, and the web site does not specific information about it.
    Thanks!

Oracle Net Manager is not part of XE.
There is a chapter in Oracle Database Express Edition 2 Day DBA 'Connecting to the Database' followed with chapter 'Managing Network Connections' where you can read about 'XE Net':

  • I see the error: ORA-12170 when I make Net Manager on Oracle DTB Client

    Dear all,
I installed Oracle Database 10 g on Server, then I installed Oracle Database Client 10 g on another PC. I tested the connection database from client PC by making Net Manager on Oracle Database Client. And I see the error ORA - 12170.
    Can you help me?
I want to connect database on Server to practice add Portlet by SQL/PLUS.
    Thanks.

    Oracle says...
    ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
Cause: The server shut down because connection establishment or communication with a client failed to complete within the allotted time interval. This may be a result of network or system delays; or this may indicate that a malicious client is trying to cause a Denial of Service attack on the server.
Action: If the error occurred because of a slow network or system, reconfigure one or all of the parameters SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.SEND_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.RECV_TIMEOUT in sqlnet.ora to larger values. If a malicious client is suspected, use the address in sqlnet.log to identify the source and restrict access. Note that logged addresses may not be reliable as they can be forged (e.g. in TCP/IP).
    Also check the following...
    1) Listener status on the server.
    2) Check listener.log file present in X:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\NETWORK\log folder to grab any error.
    3) Check the result of tnsping from the client.
    4) try to login by sqlplus username/password@tnsname and see what happens.

  • Oracle net configuration manager download

Ok. I know this is a real stupid question, but what do I need to download to install and run the Oracle net configuration manager. I always thought the client install was sufficient for running both network configuration and SQL Plus. Is this the case?

    Yes. Simply install the client.

  • " Starting Oracle Net Listener......."  Hangs  while installing vm manager

Ive taken all defaults read install guide , checked availability of ports and made sure I have libaio.
I've reinstalled on two separate machines and everytime install fails after I accept defaults. Logs don't show anything. ./oracle-xe configure is the only thing in the log.
If I run this again it fails or hangs in the same place. ?????Im not sure where the netlistener is otherwise Id try to manually install?start ?
    "Starting Oracle Net Listener"

I have noticed the same thing on my install where it hangs on starting the listener. BUT. .. If you hit enter while it is hanging it will continue to the next step of starting the db. . It seems like it is waiting for some input but not displaying that on the screen. I would not suspect any input from a start listener. .This is my experience. Any others see this?

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager Console Error

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle 10g client for administrator(for Windows Vista) on my Windows Vista machine to manage Oracle databases remotely.
However, after creating the TNS service names I get error in OEM admin console as follows and do not see any DB connections.
Error: Failed to parse tnsnames.ora file
    oracle.net.config.serviceAliasException: TNS-04404: No error
    caused by Oracle.net.configException: TNS-04414
    caused by TNS-04610"
How can I troubleshoot this error and rectify OEM console.
    Appreciate much your kind response.
    Regards,
    Noor

    Hello all,
I had exactly the same problem: ServiceAliasException: 11, not 10 as in the MetaLink note referred to above.
It turned up today, but the tnsnames.ora file hasn't been changed since October 15:th. It turns out to be
some kind of security matter in windows (XP in my case, but I guess it's about the same in Vista).
All the files in my TNS_ADMIN folder have been set to read-only. Looking at them with cygwin shows that
it's actually even worse: They've been chmod:ed 0 and put on an ACL.
Once I chmod:ed them writable again (guess removing the read only flag in windows would do the same),
I could create and save new entries with my 10.2 OEM standalone again.
Seems youy get a "ServiceAliasException: 11" when tnsnames can't be written.
    Best regards,
    //Robert

This a very funny error but took me a lot tries and errors to solve it !
I'ts related to the syntax of an entry defining an SID in the tnsnames.ora. This an oracle bug for sure
Here is an entry in my tnsnames.ora
Then why does posted example below NOT contain any "SID" entry?
    mydb.world =
    *(DESCRIPTION =*
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myoraclehost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = mydb)
At first look this entry is valid. At least SHOULD BE VALID an understood by oracle tnsnames interpreter
After a couple of tries, i finally found that there should be at least one space between the begining of the line where figure out the description keyword (DESCRIPTION
I've corrected the problem by inserting a space before this keyword.

    Dear Avi Miller,
I have successfully installed both of servers (VM Server 3.0.2 & VM Manager 3.0.2) as below
+ VM Server 3.0.2 on Dell PowerEdge 1950
+ VM Manager 3.0.2 in OEL 6.1 on Sun Fire X4100M2 Server
Refer to Oracle VM Server 3.0 Document, they recommend to do Discover Oracle VM Servers to VM Manager first of all step then do anything else like Creating a Server Pool so I try to do Discover Oracle VM Servers in many times but still not success.
What I try to do Discover Oracle Servers as below:
After I install both already I start to Discover Oracle VM quickly
    1. Log into Oracle VM Manager
    2. Select the Hardware view.
    3. Select Discover from the Actions menu. The Discover Servers dialog box is displayed.
    4. Enter information about the Oracle VM Server(s) to be discovered.
    5. Specify an IP Address (or rang): IP_of VM Server and Click Add
    6. Put password of VM Server Agent
    7. Click OK
Wait a minute the Status of VM Manager show fail and when I click Detail it show as below:

  • Local repository on Oracle VM Manager, then yum check-update itself

    Hi.
I have one Oracle VM Manager server as Oracle Linux 6.2 x86_64 that ULN registerd.
To update my Oracle VM Servers I set up local yum repository on my Oracle VM Manager, and it works OK with my Oracle VM Server Upgrade.
(Here is nice documents: http://itnewscast.com/oracle-vm-patch-updates )
    However when I run "yum check-update" to keep secure OL6 itslef on my Oracle VM Manager, it shows update for el5 (not el6) as below;
    ethtool.x86_64 2:2.6.33-0.3.100.1.el5 ovm3_x86_64_latest
    kernel-uek.x86_64 2.6.39-200.1.1.el5uek ovm3_x86_64_latest
    kernel-uek-firmware.noarch 2.6.39-200.1.1.el5uek ovm3_x86_64_latest
    pciutils.x86_64 3.1.7-5.el5 ovm3_x86_64_latest
    python-urlgrabber.noarch 3.9.1-9.100.1.el5 ovm3_x86_64_latest
    unzip.x86_64 6.0-3.100.1.el5 ovm3_x86_64_latest
I can run as 'yum --disablerepo="ovm3_x86_64_latest" check-update' to ignore above updates, but is there any way more smart?

I installed this patch to see if it would fix the problem I'm having, which is:
After a fresh install of 3.1.1 on two servers and the manager, everything worked fine until I rebooted the servers the first time. Then they came up in the "starting" state, and stay there. The error messages from the discovery process say something like "com.oracle.ovm.mgr.api.exception.IllegalOperationException: If the IP address of this server has changed, please delete the server: toravm2.acbl.net, and re-discover."
The servers have certainly not changed any hardware or IP addresses. They were just installed!
Anyhow, the installation of Build 365 and reboot of the servers fixed ONE of them. But the other one is still stuck in the "starting" state, and is UNUSABLE.
Any idea what the discovery process might be seeing that would cause this?
