Oracle Portal as site builder

Hi,
We found Oracle Portal very strange!
We used to work with OpenCms Portal, for building our site. This is a Content Management Tool; which enables users to build a site easily. Please look at www.opencms.org.
If user wants to create a page
1- He clicks on new page button.
2- System displays some templates. The user selects one.
3- System shows a WYIWYS screen, User can add his test to page (make it bold, italic, draw table...) or drag & drop some images from image gallery.
4- After editing a page, the user saves the page and close.
5- Site administrator will publishes the page on the net.
After publishing the page the end-user access the site from internet. The page is automatically added to site menu and is displayed in the site structure.
Can we do above if we switch to Oracle Portal?
In other word, can I get Oracle Portal to build a site which looks some like: http://www.alkacon.com or http://www.bp.co.za
Is there some WYIWYS tool in the portal

Have a look on Oracle Instant Portal
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/instant.html
http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/tech/ias/portal/files/introducing_oip_viewlet_swf.html
I think that will help yopu further.
Oracle Instant Portal is immediately available with both Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.1) Standard Edition One, and Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) Standard and Enterprise Editions.

  • Oracle Portal mirror site

Is it possible to run Oracle portal on server "A" and every night make a copy to mirror site "B" witch runs on simple non-dynamic content server (for example apache without connection to databases).
In this case "A" is used to make some content upload and management, but "B" is public server.
If it is possible witch rules i must keep in mind?
    Thanks.

The closest thing we have to this in the current release (3.0.9) is a Nav Bar element called a content area map. When selected, it will show the user all the content areas that the user has privs to see in the portal and can drill down within a particular content area to access folders/sub folders.
In V2 (as part of the content area/page merge) we have defined a new site map-type widget that can be added to any item region on a page. When selected, it allows you to view one or all page groups in the portal (restricted by user privs) and to drill down within a particular page group to access pages/sub pages.

  • Oracle Web Center Suite and Oracle Portal

1)What is Oracle Portal and why it is used?
2)What is Oracle Web Center Suite and why it is used?
3)What is the difference between Oracle Portal and Oracle Web Center Suite?

    1) Oracle Portal is the Portal product that was deployed together with the application server before weblogic server. It is still used a lot for corporate intra and extranets. It is mosly used for intranets and extranets. When you bought the licence for the application server you automaticly had the licence for Oracle Portal. That's why it is so popular.
Oracle portal is not realy standard based. You mostly will create portlets with PL/SQL or PDK and not realy use the JSR168 standard.
No with Oracle Portal 11g you can consume JSR168 portlets using WSRP.
    2) Oracle WebCenter suite is the next strategical choose of oracle in portal software. Webcenter is an enterprise 2.0 portal environment while oracle portal is more web 1.5 and has limited web 2.0 stuff. Oracle Portal comes with a complete UI for the user to use to create websites and groups but webcenter is more a framework to incoorporate enterprise 2.0 features into your own fusion web application. Webcenter suite comes with Webcenter spaces. THis is a complete UI to create collaborative websites.
Webcenter framework is a powerfull framework to create complete enterprise 2.0 sites.
    3) The difference... Oracle Portal is an old product and will not be developt anymore. I've heard portal 11g will be the last version meaning support will stop at 2014. Webcenter is a new product to create state of the art enterprise 2.0 websites.
Oracle portals is not build on standard and is not realy standardbased meaning is you develop portlets for portal you will not be able to use them in other portals.
Webcenter on the other hand is completly standard based. It is JSR168 compliant and in the near future it will also support JSR286.
Oracle portal is PL/SQL based while webcenter is completly java based, based upon the ADF framework from oracle.
Because WebCenter is based upon the ADF framework you can use the complete ADF framework for your application. For example consuming webservices are very easy in webcenter. If you are using a service oriented architecture you will have lots and lots of work to integrate it with portal. With webcenter this is peace of cake.
    Hope this helps you :)

  • Oracle Portal Sites

Are there web sites developped with Oracle Portal includding Forms, Reports ... ?
Does somebody knows sites that use these technologies?
    Thanks

    Ben,
A search for live portals turned up this link.
Some of these sites use the forms and reports components of Oracle9iAS Portal.
If you are talking about Oracle Forms (Oracle9iDS Forms Builder) or Oracle Reports (Oracle9iDS Reports Builder), then I would suggest looking in those forums.

  • How to build a Oracle style Web site

    Dear All,
(Not sure whether this question should be this sub-site or not.)
My question is how to build a Oracle style Web site, what technology should be use.
    Example Site: [http://www.orapub.net/ebs/index.htm|http://www.orapub.net/ebs/index.htm]
This web site style is like Oracle Enterprise Manager.
    Thanks a lot

  • OracleAS Portal 10g: Build Corporate Portals - Worth Taking this Course?

    Hello,
I am currently building the company Intranet using the Oracle Instant Portal and I am new to Oracle and Portal concept. Would it be beneficial to take the following course? Has anyone taken this course before? What is your feedback for learning more about Oracle Portal / Oracle Instant Portal?
OracleAS Portal 10g: Build Corporate Portals
    http://education.oracle.com/web_prod-plq-dad/plsql/show_desc.redirect?dc=D16648GC10&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&source_call=
    Thanks!

This is a worthwhile course, but not for learning about Oracle Instant Portal (which was released after the Build Corporate Portals course was written). The best place to start finding out about Oracle Instant Portal is the self-paced Oracle By Example (OBE) tutorial, Building Instant Portals with Oracle Instant Portal. The tutorial also has links to a couple of viewlets, which you should find helpful.

  • Can anybody tell me which are the official site built on oracle portal

i want to view some websites built on oracle portal. pl provide me some good urls to view and check sites

Quickest way to see a variety of sites that have been created using Oracle Portal would be to Google for some of the common parts of portal page URLs. For example: allinurl: "/pls/portal/" or allinurl: "/portal/page/" or allinurl: "/portal/page/portal"

  • Oracle Reports Builder X Oracle Portal - Integration

    Hi everybody
I've created some reports with Oracle Reports Builder. Then I saved them as a JSP file.
I can view these reports in a normal WEB page, without problems. All that I need is to call the page with the parameters.
Now I need to deploy this report as a portlet, inside the Oracle Portal.
So, I've read the document "Publishing Reports to the WEB" (http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/docs/a92102_01.pdf) and I've followed the steps to run the report (JSP file) as a Portlet.
    I've done the following:
    - I've created a Database Provider
    - I've created the "Report Server Access"
    - I've created the "Report Definition File Access"
Until this point, everything is ok, I can "Run" and "Run as a Portlet" the report.
So, in the next class, "Adding the Report Portlet to a Page" (Page 8-8), the report portlet simply doesn't appear in the Portal DB Provider to wich it belongs!!! :-(
Has someone had this kind of problem?
    Any hint will be welcome!
P.S: The Oracle Portal, the Application Server, and the Reports Server are in a SUN Machine.
The Portal version is 2 (release 2).
    Thanks in advance

    hi adriano,
here is what you have to do:
    1. navigate to the db provider which holds the reports. click
on grant access: check the expose as provider
    2. builder - administer - oracle reports security -
edit the reports definition file access you created for
    your report.
click on the access tab - check publish to portal.
now you can see your report portlets for selection
    in portal.
    regards,
    christian hi,
I can run the report as portlet but I can't see the "Access" tab under Customize. I know the option "Publish to Portal" is available in other object, but the "Access" tab does not appear in any of the Report Defitinion file acess page. Only "Develop" and "Manager" is available. I'm running on 9iAS R1.02.2.2a.
    Thanks

  • Dissatisfied with usability of the Portal Studio site

    Hello,
We are ramping up production and I have been tasked with developing a proof of concept for Portal. Of course, I've spent countless hours setting up 9iAS, and even trying to understand this whole 'Portal' portal product (like many others). I have devloped in J2EE, VB, VC++, and plenty of other scripting (ASP, Perl) languages.
My experience on that site has been painful at best and it doesn't really seem to be very useful for the most important documentation from a developers standpoint.
It's almost as if it's information overload and just outright confusing. (Which is a concern our company has of implementing portal to our mere mortal users :-] )
All I want to do is find good reference material for setting up Portal, using Java to develop portlets on our development 9iAS instance (NOT using Oracle's hosted 'portal studio'!!), and configuring and setting up the URL based portlets.
This has turned out to be no easy task.
FOr instance, I want to figure out how to create a URL based portlet, AND UNDERSTAND WHAT I"M DOING! This seems to be the part that is skipped. If it's sooooo easy than why is it so difficult to find good reference to what i'm doing?
So I dig around the main portal page. I see a getting started link.. *click*.
Well, I don't see anything specific to URL Providers... maybe the "How can I create portlets using my existing web applications?" is what I want. *click*
Oh, look.. it's like 3rd grade.. a slide show!>.. Cool. :-| okay.. ERRRGHHHT!... hit the brakes!.
"The PDK provides a samle XML configuration file.." ??? where is my link to more information about this magic "configuration file"???.... ahh. So I stop the silly slideshow and I want to know about this "configuration file".. *close window*
Now I'm back at the portal studio heap.
    hmm.. "Documentation" for POrtal *click*
Hmm.. after searching through this mind boggling page, there is a "Portal configuration guide" link.. sounds reasonable. *click*
so I look for "URL Provider".. or just "URL" on that page. Nothin found. bah!.. well, now I'm stumped. There is this mystery 'config' file that i've failed to quickly find information about. Strike 1.
So I use the other part of my brain (the developer side)...
There is this "HTTP Adapter" thing. Looks like part of the acclaimed "URL provider" mess. SO i read on...
blah blah blah... nothin of significant use stands out.
ah... somethin... "4.3 Registering A Provider Using The PL/SQL HTTP Adapter".. again. useless. *click * click * back *
So now I retreat back to the silly portal studio page.
Back to the task at hand... finding out the innerds of the configuration files involved in writing a "URL provider".
Looking at the available documents.. OHH LOOK! the actual documentation library is buried at the bottom of the page!.. hmm. I just read the "config guide".. "web toolkit"...?? I wonder.. *click* (grinding as Acrobat loads again)
AHhhh.. it's a "PL/SQL" web toolkit. Not imporessed. How many web developers actually know PL/SQL .. or would WANT to program logic in that query language??? or even any Java or C developers?...grr..
    *click* back *
Where is it..??>. this is about the point where I start to forget what I'm looking for.
Well, I've come to the conclusion that the "Oracle9iAS Portal Documentation Library" is a small library, as it doesn't appear to have any good reference for the details of portal use and configuration.. or at least involving the URL services.
*back*back*.. Oh, look what I found.
Near the bottom of the page ("getting started"), there is a link under ""Navigation"" that reads "URL-based: Learn how the PDK helps you build portlets in any web language."
hmm. looks promising. Maybe a little more respectable than that 3rd grade slide show.
    *click*
"BUilding URL based portlets".. Ahh presto!
Nice. opened a new browser window. (dumb)
    Okay.. I need the PDK.
    *click**download**wait*
I extract it to a warm home.
hmm.."Installing URL based Portlets".. sounds intriguing
well, it's now lunch time and I thing I found some good meat.
If you've rached this point you can probably now understand (after reading this long post) tha pain I experience.
    GOtta eat some lunch.

    Sean,
I am sorry to hear that you had such problems navigating through Portal Studio to find content on URL Services. Right now Portal Studio is geared by technology, so you click on URL-Based for URL Services, Java for building Java Portlets. Hopefully all the doc will be there to help you. If not, I would be happy to point you in the right direction.
If you are looking to display web content as portlets, you should take a look at Web Clipping, it is a wizard form of URL Services where you simply use the wizard UI.
Go to Portal Studio and click on OmniPortlet and WebClipping or go here:
    http://portalstudio.oracle.com/servlet/page?_pageid=350&_dad=ops&_schema=OPSTUDIO&12678_PDKHOME902_39847486.p_subid=350276&12678_PDKHOME902_39847486.p_sub_siteid=73&12678_PDKHOME902_39847486.p_edit=0
This page has demos and papers on using Web Clipping. To install Web Clipping, download the PDK and follow the instructures under the pdk/pdk/portalTools directory.
We are revamping the Portal Studio site to hopefully make navigation much easier for all users (developer and non developer).
Please let me know if you help finding other information. The feedback does help us improve the site.
    Thanks,

  • HTML vs. Oracle Portal

    One Question about HTML DB:
It looks very like the old WEB-DB or Oracle Portal. Is it so much new or is it a Portal-Light without the need of 9iAS? How will Oracle seperate it from Portal?

I have been working with portal since before it was called portal, in fact before it was called webDB, when Tom Kyte and company first did internal release of a thing called WebView in 1996.
Portal's market is also for building application, but on an enterprise level scale and incorporating numerous standards - too many to list - in addition to content management and distribution for portals/web sites.
HTML in my testing should be used for lower-end departmental computing to replace spreadsheets, and make for a nice IDE where you can build application very rapidly - a prototyping engine if you will. Except this engine can evolve into a production application.
All this without have to undergo a 1-2 week project just to get your J2EE/OID/iAS/Portal environment setup and ready for use. HTML is much faster to deploy with and requires less infrastructure to build departmental size web applications to replace spreadsheet computing. This is certainly one method of making strides to enter into Grid Computing.

  • Solution to get pageid from Oracle Portal in 14 Steps

To get the _pageid from your site is simple you have to do this:
    Example browser link -> portal/page?_pageid=34,35030&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL
1º - Edit your template page click in the "properties" link
2º - go to the tab Parameters
3º - create a new parameter with the name _pageid
4º - click in navigator and after click in providers
5º - Locally Built Providers and create your build APP for your site (in my case the name is APP_PORTAL)
6º - Create your dynamic page (in my case DYN_MENU to use a menu based in the pageid)
    7º - uses this code:
/* the pageid have the number of your site (in this case psiteid) and the number of the page (in this case ppag)
after this you can call procedures using this two variables like the procedure menu who is create in the my package portal in the etcuser:
in the step or tab "Custumization Form Display Options" who detect the bind variable :pageid click in the option "Make public"
    <ORACLE>declare
    psiteid NUMBER(4);
    ppag NUMBER(7);
    begin
    psiteid:=TO_NUMBER(substr(:pageid, 1, INSTR(:pageid, ',', 1, 1)-1));
    ppag :=TO_NUMBER(substr(:pageid, INSTR(:pageid, ',', 1, 1)+1));
    htp.p('Site: '|| psiteid ||' Page: '|| ppag ||'');
    etcuser.portal.menul(ppag, psiteid);
    end;
    </oracle>
8º - After this you only need to associate in the template the _pageid parameter with bind variable :pageid of your dinamic page
9º - In your template add a Portlet to the region
10º - click in Portlet Staging Area - your build repository (in my case APP_PORTAL) and chose the DYN_MENU
11º - after click in the link properties of the template page go to the tab parameters again
12º - In the Portlet Parameter Values now you can expand your dinamic applications (in my case de DYN_MENU)
13º - Expand your application and associate the Portlet Parameter (in this case de pageid) equal (=) chose "Page Parameter" and select in the combo the _pageid
14º - The job is done now you have the pageid in your oracle portal pages
    :)

No... work's in oracle portal 10.1.4 if your system is configured to pass the pageid like my example. And my page only have one template for the entire portal and you only need to add the Dynamic page only one time in the template.

  • ADF Application and Oracle Portal Login Page

We have developed ADF application and deployed it in Oracle AS 10.1.2 along with the custom JAAS module, which is working fine with the application custom login page. As a next page, I want to use Oracle Portal login page for the authentication and authorization.
How can I accomplished it? Any idea?
    Thanks,
    AP

    Shay,
    1. I created blank ADF project
    2. I copied myreport.jsp file (this one was generated by Oracle Report Builder) under ..ViewController/public_html directory
    3. Created directory 'lib' under ViewController/public_html/WEB-INF/lib
    4. Copied reports_tld.jar file under the directory created in 3.
    5. Created simple jspx page with the af:link (btw af:goLink does not exists in JDev 12c), set 'destination' to myreport.jsp
After the steps above I could not even compile the application, many problems too many to list here, Basically JDev is trying to build the project with .jsp file generated in Report Builder and is unable to.
So to be sure we are on the same page: I am trying to embed JSP report files generated by Report Builder into ADF project, then create EAR file and deploy on standalone WLS. Finally execute JSP web only report.
