Oracle Portal Development from different geographic locations

Hello,
Have anyone done the development with Oracle Portal from different geographic locations, our customer want to know is there a way we can develop Oracle portal application from different geographic locations and merge it one place.
One reason is because the portal is in the database. If you have two separate groups work to build a single portal, it reason that each team would have their own installation. When these two groups are done (or periodically), the development efforts must be merged into the final complete portal. Is this possible using Oracle Portal (merging portal installations)?
Second reason is that typically other systems owned by the customer are exposed or accessed by portlets. Access to these portlets would probably be required for development. If nothing else then for unit testing.
How do you typically see off-shoring done with Oracle Portal, if at all? Or am I incorrect in my thinkings. How does the Portal meta-data stores the portal configurations is it possible to merge different portal schema into one and make it the main portal environment.
Please let me know if anyone successfully done this. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kathir

Newbie blues: Oracle Sql Developer showing different data from Sqlplus.
First of all; it would be difficult to know less about Oracle than myself.
I just installed a recent copy of the server and am running SQl Developer 3.2.20.10.
I made a small test table , borrowed some pl sql code to add rows, then wrote code to delete some rows. Lots of fun.
In SQL Developer “Select * from t1;” now shows 7 records, which seems right.
I wanted other views of the data and so logged in from the command line using SQLPlus.
The same code here shows the table prior to the delete, with 600 plus rows. Needless to say I’ve logged out and back in again, with no changes.
No fun ! What am I not understanding here ?

did you ever actually issue COMMIT so other session can see the changed data?

  • NAC version upgrade from 4.5.x to 4.7.1-in different geographical location

I have more than fifteen CAS’s in different geographical location (state) and controlled by CAM HA that is located in another location (state). I’m currently running NAC version 4.5 and planning to upgrade to 4.7.1. due to Windows 7 compatibility problem. My question is that, what is the easiest way to upgrade to 4.7.1  without visiting each location to upgrade CAS’s? Is there away to push the new version from the CAM? Visiting each location is not that convenient. Please let me know.
    Thanks,

    Dereje,
Unfortunately for upgrading to this version you need the CD in the box and to reboot from that CD. Reason is that we're changing the underlying OS from Fedora Core to CentOS and that requires a complete re-install of a lot of RPMs which isn't possible without booting from the CD.

  • One SO but I would like Post Goods Issue from different Storage Locations?

    Dear All,
Pls help me solve this issue below:
I have one SO, Item xzy, Qty = 300 but I would like to Post Goods Issue from different Storage Locations (Qty = 100 for each locations)
    E.g I have 3 storage locations: A, B, C and need to assign Post Goods Issue authorizations to 3 users U1, U2, U3:
    - U1 can Post Goods Issue from storage location A only (but cannot from B, C)
    - U2 can Post Goods Issue from storage location B only (but cannot from A, C)
    - U3 can Post Goods Issue from storage location C only (but cannot from A, B)
How can I assign the Authorization for users?
How can I create Outbound Delivery:
    a. 1 SO --> 1 outbound delivery --> Post GI 3 times
    b. 1 SO --> 3 outbound delivery --> Post GI
Thank you very much for your support
    Cao Huy.

    Hi Senthils,
    Pls see my comment below:
For Authorization check for storage Location
    1. GO to the following Menu path
Spro>Material Management> Inventory manangement and Physical Inventory>Authorization Management>Authorization check for Storage Location.
Here you have activate authorization tick for storage location and plant combination.
    --> Done
    2. Set authorization for Authorization object MM_MSEG_LGO thro Basis for the combination of movement type and storage location
    for each user.
    --> Done
There are 3 storage locations(A,B,C) in one outbound delivery, and when user 01 tries to Post GI this outbound, it means that the system will Post GI for all line items in this outbound, but user 01 has not authorization for location B, C.
How can user 01 Post GI from only location A in this outbound???
And then user 02 will Post GI from only location B in this outbound,
user 03 will Post GI from only location C in this outbound.
    Thanks
    Cao Huy

  • Oracle Portal development without JDeveloper

    hi,
I have a web application that serves JSP pages that I need to use as a provider with oracle portal. Could someone kindly point me to a tutorial that explains how to do that?
Please note that I am using websphere application developer as my ide and test environment - so the provider will run on my local machine. This is the present folder structure:
    web content
    - jsp
    - helloworld.jsp
    web-inf
    - lib
    - pdkjava.jar
    - deployment
    - _default.properties
    - myappname.properties
    - provider
    - provider.xml
    Thanks!
    Anu

    Hi Anu,
First up, is your provider page up and running?
Next, can you register your provider with Oracle Portal?
Then, do you see any issues when the portlets are dropped?
Since you are using JPDK, you could copy over the files like provider.xml and _default.properties and tweak them to suit your project structure.
Make sure that the servlets have been properly configured in your web.xml file.
I guess, these should get you going in no time.
    thanks,
    Harsha

  • Oracle portal use in different application servers

Instead of Oracle 9iAS, can Oracle Portal run on other Application Server?

    Hello,
When you using JDBC resource in a J2EE container you should use a DataSource that will be an abstraction layer to your code.
    Are you doing that?
This will simplify the integration to the development, test and production machines.
You can take look the the data source how-to on OTN.

  • Sending mail from different office locations

I can receive mail fine, using mail.mac.com, But I cannot send. I have 3 different office locations and would like to be able to use the Mail application and not just the webmail based app.
If this is not possible, I would like to at least be able to use the mail app. from home, however I am on a network at home on my roommates wireless connection. Do I need to have his user/pass entered using the smtp settings for our ISP?
Thank you very much for your help.

If you are using smtp.mac.com to send the mail, try changing its port from 25 to 587.
A lot of ISPs are now blocking port 25 for anyone not using the ISP's smtp server.

  • Login to Oracle 8i Server from a remote location.

    Hi Experts,
I wish to connect to Oracle 8i Server at Site 1 from Site 2.
    Situation
Site 1     -     Oracle 8i on Win 2K. This is behind a firewall FW1. Is in Win NT Domain1.
Site 2     -     Oracle 8i Client on Win 98. This is also behind (a separate) firewall FW2. Is in Win NT Domain2. There is no oracle instance running at Site 2.
    Also -
    a. There is a secure VPN between Site 1 and 2 (through separate Firewalls. one at each site).
    b. Site 1 and Site 2 use different set of IP-Address and also different set of Subnet Mask.
    c. Both, the Client at Site 2 & Oracle 8i Server at Site 1, are able to ping each other successfully.
    d. As there is no oracle database at Site 2, a Database Link cannot be created.
At Site 2, I have tried the following -
    1. Installed Oracle 8i Client.
    Configured the tnsnames.ora file.
    The Port used is 1521.
Tried to connect from SQL*Plus but do not connect.
    2. Installed development version of Oracle Forms 6i (surely after removing Oracle 8i client).
    This also installs SQL*Plus.
    Configured the tnsnames.ora file.
    The Port used is 1521.
Tried to connect from SQL*Plus but do not connect.
Tried to connect from Oracle Forms 6i but login fails.
However, other Win98 clients (of Win NT Domain1) at Site 1 use the same settings of tnsnames.ora file to connect to the Oracle 8i Server.
    3. Changed the IP address (of Win98 client at Site 2) to become a member of Win NT domain1 (same domain as that of Oracle 8i Server).
Repeated the above steps 1 & 2 but login still fails.
What more needs to be done?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Lokesh

    Hi Fredrik,
You r right. But I have its entry in tnsnames.ora file. The entry looks like this -
    My_Service_Name.world =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (COMMUNITY = tcp.world)
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (Server = Computer_Name_of_Server_having_Ora8i)
    (Host = IP_Add_of_Server_having_Ora8i)
    (Port = 1521)
    (Pipe = ORAPIPE)
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = ORCL)
The same entry exists in the tnsnames.ora file on the local PCs (same office where the Oracle 8i Server is present) at Site 1 and these PCs connect the server without any problem.
    Thanks

Since you are on Oracle 11 one option would be duplicate from active primary. You can use the Standby parameters of DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT for the directory structure.

  • Portal development

I am creating a page with several Regions. I need to be able to create Trees and List objects on my page. I need to create Directory structures with Regions as well. I need to be able to create links as well.
I need to know how to gain access to my DEFAULT 10gAS database from within Oracle Portal and from outside applications(ie. TOAD). I need to be able to load items into that database. I need to be able to gain I/O access to that database from with the application built as well.
I need to be able to monitor the User's Session State and Rights as well. I need to know how I can do this from within the application and from the development side.

    hi,
you can create links by using the 'URL item' itemtype. not sure what the requirement is to create directory structures with regions - regions are just a UI element on a page to group items / portlets in a structured way. independent of the region and tabs, items are always located on a page. you can put any tree or list that you have available as a portlet to a portlet region. you can create lists using OmniPortlet, which is able to handle different datasources.
for more information please have a look at the portal users guide:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/documentation.html
you can access the infrastructure databsae that comes with your application server installation. you need to get the access information from your administrator or if you have access to the machine check the network configuration of the database there. this gives you all the information you need to connect.
for more information please read the application server documentation.
hope this helps as a first starting point.

  • PRD and DEV server on different physical locations

    Hi
We are in a situation which we planned to host our production and development servers at different geographical locations. Both locations have high speed internet and static IPs.
Kindly advice me how to configure transport management in this scenario.
    Our config is ECC6.0 - DB6-WIN2008.
    Regards
    naveen

    Hello Muthu,
Are these boxes on the same network ?? check by creating a RFC from your DEV to the PRD and test if its successfull.
If the RFC test is successfull then you can proceed with the TMS configuration. It wil not be any problem.

  • Is it possible to query software inventory report for Oracle SQL developer installation?

    Hi all
My company requires to generate a report of all kinds of Oracle database access tool. I can find Toad installation from Add/Remove Program and therefore can query for Toad.
However, Oracle SQL developer is using Java. I cannot see an entry for Oracle SQL developer from Add/Remove Program. Is there a way to query inventory for Oracle SQL developer installation?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards
    Lic

You might be able to use software inventory to report on the version of sqldeveloper.exe.
As the app looks like just a zip you extract to a custom location that might be one method.

  • Portal Developer needed

I need an Oracle Portal developer for a permanent position in Louisville, KY. We will be on 10.1.4 Portal and using Oracle Reports, Forms, and Discoverer. We already have 600+ Oracle Reports and 100+ Oracle Forms. Discoverer is used against a 10 TB data warehouse plus a large number of smaller SQL Server and DB2 databases.
We need to design the Portal from the ground up to support existing Forms and Reports plus enable these developers to deploy their own custom code quickly.
There will be Java coding done to interface with a custom security API.
We are a large Oracle shop and need an experienced Oracle Portal developer. We just hired a very experience Sun Portal developer and now we need someone with really strong Oracle skills.
Please email me if you are interested. [email protected]
