Oracle Report Server Issue with Japanese Characters

We are trying to setup a Oracle Report Server to print the Japanese characters in the PDF format.
We have separate Oracle Report servers for printing English, Chinese and Vietnamese characters in PDF formats using Oracle Reports in the production which are running properly with Unix AIX version 5.3. Now we have a requirement to print the Japanese characters. Hence we tried to setup the new server for the same and the configurations are done as same as Chinese/Vietnamese report servers. But we are not able to print the Japanese characters.
I am providing the details which we followed to configure this new server.
1.     We have modified the reports.sh to map the proper NLS_LANG (JAPANESE_AMERICA.UTF8) and other Admin folder settings.
2.     We have configured the new report server via OPMN admin.
3.     We have copied the arialuni.ttf to Printers folder and we have converted this same .ttf file in AFM format. This AFM file has been copied to $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/gk/JP_Admin/AFM folder.
4.     We have modified the uifont.ali (JP_admin folder) file for font subsetting.
5.     We have put an entry in JP_admin/PPD/datap462.ppd as *Font ArialUnicodeMS: Standard "(Version 1.01)" Standard ROM
6.     We have modified the Tk2Motif.rgb (JP_admin folder) file for character set mapping (Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-1=UTF8) as we have enabled this one for other report servers as well.
Environment Details:-
Unix AIX version : 5300-07-05-0831
Oracle Version : 10.1.0.4.2
NLS_LANG : JAPANESE_AMERICA.UTF8
Font Mapping : Font Sub Setting in uifont.ali
Font Used for Printing : arialuni.ttf (Font Name : Arial Unicode MS)
The error thrown in the rwEng trace (rwEng-0.trc) file is as below
[2011/9/7 8:11:4:488] Error 50103 (C Engine): 20:11:04 ERR REP-3000: Internal error starting Oracle Toolkit.
The error thrown when trying to execute the reports is…
REP-0177: Error while running in remote server
Engine rwEng-0 crashed, job Id: 67
Our investigations and findings…
1.     We disabled the entry Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-1=UTF8 in Tk2Motif.rgb then started the server. We found that no error is thrown in the rwEng trace file and we are able to print the report also in PDF format… (Please see the attached japarial.pdf for your verification) but we are able to see only junk characters. We verified the document settings in the PDF file for ensuring the font sub set. We are able to see the font sub setting is used.
2.     If we enable the above entry then the rwEng trace throwing the above error (oracle toolkit error) and reports engine is crashed.
It will be a great help from you if you can assist us to resolve this issue…

Maybe 7zip or another tool has workarounds for broken file names, you could try that.
Or you could try to go over the files in the zip archive one-by-one and write it to files out-1, out-2, ..., out-$n without concerning yourself with the file names. You could get file endings back via the mimetype.
This script might work:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <zip.h>
static const char *template = "./out-%04d.bin";
int main(int argc, char**argv)
int err = 0;
zip_t *arc = zip_open((const char*)argv[1], ZIP_RDONLY, &err);
if(arc == NULL)
printf("Failed to open ZIP, error %d\n", err);
return -1;
zip_int64_t n = zip_get_num_entries(arc, 0);
printf("%s: # of packed files: %d\n", argv[1], n);
for(int i = 0; i < n; i++)
zip_stat_t stat;
zip_stat_index(arc, i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED, &stat);
char buf[stat.size];
char oname[sizeof(template)];
zip_file_t *f = zip_fopen_index(arc, (zip_int64_t)i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED);
zip_fread(f, (void*)&buf[0], stat.size);
snprintf(&oname[0], sizeof(template), template, i);
FILE *of = fopen(oname, "wb");
fwrite(&buf[0], stat.size, 1, of);
printf("%s: %s => %lu bytes\n", argv[1], oname, stat.size);
zip_fclose(f);
fclose(of);
zip_close(arc);
return 0;
Compile with
gcc -std=gnu99 -O3 -o unzip unzip.c -lzip
and run as
./unzip $funnyzipfile
You should get template-named, numbered output files in the current directory.

  • Issue with Japanese characters in files/filenames in terminal.

    I recently downloaded a zip file with Japanese characters in the archive and in the files within the archive. The name of the archive is "【批量下载】パノプティコン労働歌 第一等.zip"
    The characters are properly displayed in firefox, chrome, and other applications, but in my terminal some of the characters appear corrupted. Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/4R22m0D.png
    Additionally, this leads to corruption of the files in the archive. When I try to extract the files, this is what happens:
    % unzip 【批量下载】パノプティコン労働歌 第一等.zip
    Archive: 【批量下载】パノプティコン労働歌 第一等.zip
    extracting: +ii/flac/Let's -+-ʦ1,000,000-.flac bad CRC 5f603d51 (should be debde980)
    extracting: +ii/flac/+ѦѾP++ -instrumental-.flac bad CRC 78b93a2d (should be 3501d555)

    extracting: +ii/flac/---- -instrumental-.flac bad CRC 569b6194 (should be adb5d5fe)
    I'm not sure what could be the cause of this. I'm using uxterm with terminus as my main font and IPA gothic (a Japanese font) as my secondary font. I have a Japanese locale set up and have tried setting LANG=ja_JP.utf8 before, but the results never change.
    Also, this issue isn't just with this file. This happens with nearly all archives that have Japanese characters associated with it.
    Has anyone encountered this issue before or knows what might be wrong?

  • Collation issue with Japanese characters in Oracle8i

    Hi,
    I have japanese data in a varchar2 column in an Oracle8i instance which contains both single byte and multibyte Japanese characters. The encoding type of the instance is UTF-8.
    I want to sort them in such a way that equivalent single byte and multibyte Japanese characters are treated as same. Also while selecting, if I specify the single byte characters in the where condition it should select both single and double byte characters and vice-versa.
    The functionality I'm looking for is similar to the one which can be achieved by using Collator class in Java with FULL_DECOMPOSITION as decmposition mode.
    Could anyone please let me know how can I do it ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Sourav

  • Urgent : Oracle Reports Server 9.0.4.0.0 Japanese fonts

    Hi,
    I have one problem in displaying Japanese fonts in Reports Server.
    I have installed Oracle Reports Server (9.0.4.0.0) by selecting radio button -
    ' Use Unicode (UTF8) as the Character Set'
    while installing Infrastructure. But I didn't choose any Prodcut Language at the time of Middle Tier Installation.
    I changed the value of NLS_LANG to JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16JIS in registry for both Infra as well as Middle tier homes. Both are on same machine.But no able to display the report in Japanese Fonts. It gives me following error -
    REP-501: Unable to connect to the specified database.
    Could anybody help me resolve this issue ? Its urgent.
    Thanks in anticipation

    I would advice you to install a new mid tier with Japanese language.
    Regards
    Pavna

  • Oracle Report Server with Weblogic crash

    Hello,
    I am using Report Server 6i on WinNT and the web server used is WebLogic 6.0.. The reports generated are of HTMLCSS format or PDF format.
    Cud U please send the replies for the below queries at the earliest..
    1.The data in the generated report is well formatted and the pages exceeds 300.
    If the report generated is of PDF format then it displays the report in less than 2 minutes.
    We do get this report with HTML format also but with out the border for the tables.
    Since we need the report with border to the tables, we are using HTMLCSS format.But we are facing problems with HTMLCSS format. HTMLCSS format report never shows up in the browser. The browser just Hangs up
    However if the number of pages of the generated report is around 10, then the report is displayed in the browser in HTMLCSS format, without any problem.
    Is there any way to get the border to the tables using HTML instead of HTMLCSS or Could u suggest us any solution for displaying report in HTMLCSS format.
    2. If a report requested is of HTMLCSS format, and as mentioned above if the number of pages to be displayed is too large, before the report is displayed completely, if the browser is closed,then the Web Server associated with the Report Server crashes with the following error message based on type of JVM used
    Please find the attached Error in quotes :
    "In case of Classic JVM, a dialog box is displayed with the following message,
    The instruction at "0x503b1709" referenced memory at "0x0000000c".The memory could not be "read".
    Click on OK to terminate the application
    Click on CANCEL to debug the application
    In case of Hotspot JVM, the error displayed on the console of the Web Server is
    Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at PC=0x6d449cef
    Function name=(N/A)
    Library=C:\jdk1.3.1_02\jre\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll
    NOTE: We are unable to locate the function name symbol for the error
    just occurred. Please refer to release documentation for possible
    reason and solutions."
    We had contacted the Weblogic people and the SUN people for the crash of the webserver .
    We got the following replies from both them
    Weblogic:
    Hmm, looks like your native method is causing the JVM to crash. Notice that the current java thread is calling the native method from the Oracle servlet when the crash occurs. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
    You need to contact Oracle about this.
    SUN:
    Sounds to me like this servlet is executing some native code that does something illegal with memory, like a bad pointer access. That's often the cause of a segmentation violation and this kind of crash report from the JVM.
    I would pursue the matter with Oracle, the vendor of your servlet, if you haven't already.
    We had posted this in metalink also, but we could not get the solution for this problem.
    So could you please look into this and send us the reply ASAP as it is very urgent.
    Regards
    Sudipta

    Hi
    What is the difference between the running and the not running (error) reports?
    Do you use chinese characters in all of them?

    OK, I did this once and did not follow the oracle docs
    If you saved your targets.xml before you started you might save it by renaming it back.
    (Double check to make sure you did not miss a rename)
    Otherwise, all I have to offer is my rough notes:
    1. Backup the file $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/targets.xml.
    [oracle@ias02 emd]$ pwd
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/sysman/emd
    cp targets.xml targets.xmlbackup
    2. Modify the file targets.xml by changing all the occurrences of the wrong reports server name by the correct one.
    i.e. Replace rep_test_midtier with rep_new (4 places - changes)
    Copy the conf file as follows: ( this will named different from system to system )
    cp /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/conf/rep_pia_oracleas.conf /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/conf/rep_fam.conf
    run this script:
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/addNewServerTarget.sh rep_fam          (change rep_fam to new report server name)
    3.Update the changed configuration .
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig -ct opmn -v -d
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/dcm/bin/dcmctl resyncinstance -v -d
    4. Restart the Application Server Control Console
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/emctl stop iasconsole
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/emctl start iasconsole
    In the file:
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/config/reportsConfig.properties
    Change the Reports_Server_Name setting from rep_test_midtier to rep_fam (change rep_fam to new report server name)
    Best Wishes (I was able to save mime)
    The other option is to reinstall

  • Oracle Report Server Not Accessible

    Hi Folks,
    I'm facing a series of issues with Oracle reports server 11g. I'l list the issues one by one.
    1. I'm not able to start the weblogic server from the domain which i've created for Reports. It gives me authentication error. I've tried clearing tmp directory, clearing temp directory and creating a boot.properties in the security folder. But nothin seems to work.
    2. I'm not able to start the report server from the instance path C:\Oracle\Middleware\asinst_1\bin\opmnctl.bat. The contents of opmnctl.bat is as follows
    @ECHO OFF
    SETLOCAL
    set PERL5LIB=
    set JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_29\bin
    set ORACLE_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_FRHome1
    set ORACLE_INSTANCE=C:\Oracle\Middleware\asinst_1
    set OpmnService=OracleProcessManager_asinst_1
    "C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_FRHome1\opmn\bin\opmnctl.bat" %*
    when i run this from cmd i get all the components as alive but i'm not able to access the reports path with the url. (http://domainname:7003/console or /em).
    this says connection refused.
    3. When i try to access the url http://domainname:8888/reports/rwservlet gives me apache bridge error. I've been trying all the things given in google for the past 1 week but still its not working.
    This is my Oracle Forms and Repots Installation log:

    I'm not able to login to any of this url.
    pls help with the issue.
    P.S - I'm able to start weblogic server from base_domain but not from Sapphire domain which i created during installation of reports 11g.
    I need a way to start the Weblogic server from Sapphire Domain and also start reports server and access the reports url.

    After machine shutdown without shutdown IAS server, Oracle application server report service can not restart.
    below is the error
    11/2/10 5:26 AM NfsServer: (TCP:Nfs-6) Exception
    oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-71002: I/O error.
    java.net.SocketException: Connection resetAnd this seems to be the problem. Missing NFS share? TCP=<i>transmission control protocol</i>. NFS=<i>network file server</i>.
    For some reason (very like due to how it has been configured), the s/w attempts to use a NFS share - and uses the TCP wire protocol. This NFS share is not mounted or not available.
    Check the NFS server (it needs to be up and exporting that share), there has to be network connectivity between the report server and the NFS server, and the report server needs to have the required config and access permissions for mounting that NFS share.

  • Issue inputting japanese characters in sqlplus?

    (Reposting this from Linux forum)
    Hey all, looking for some feedback on this issue.
    Background: Using a tool to process an external data file (with a Japanese filename and contents which contain Japanese as well). This tool ultimately places the converted data into an Oracle database.
    When this tool is run from our Windows environment, everything works correctly.
    However, when running the Linux version of the tool, talking to the same database, the following is output:
    WARNING: underlying database error.
    SDE Code (-51): Underlying DBMS error
    Extended DBMS error code: 911
    ORA-00911: invalid character
    (駅)
    Not able to create business table 駅
    Delete layer "駅" ...
    SDE Code (-51): Underlying DBMS error
    Extended DBMS error code: 911
    ORA-00911: invalid character
    Unable to delete layer "駅"
    When we re-run the tool with an English filename it seems to work fine regardless of the contents of the file.
    Relevant environment variables:
    LANG=ja_JP.UTF8
    NLS_LANG=Japanese_Japan.UTF8
    NLS_LANGUAGE=japanese
    And I have also tried with:
    LANG=ja_JP.eucJP
    NLS_LANG=japanese_japan.JA16EUC
    NLS_LANGUAGE=japanese
    I have noticed that if I run sqlplus directly and attempt to create a simple table with a Japanese name, I get the ORA-00911 error with japanese_japan.JA16EUC as NLS_LANG. If I change NLS_LANG to Japanese_Japan.UTF8 I can then successfully create a table with japanese characters in its name. I still cannot run our conversion tool above.
    Any ideas or tips? I believe the database is set up correctly as it does work with Windows as the client... perhaps the conversion tool is overriding my NLS_LANG settings? Any other possibilities you can think of?
    TIA,
    Ray

    Thanks for all the input guys.

    AL16UTF16Input is being done from an SSH session from an XFCE Terminal on a Fedora 8 machine. I am cutting and pasting the Japanese character. Everything seems to match up, save for the shell environment variable. I wonder if somehow the character transmitted by my paste changes based on the character set setting.

  • Can I use Oracle Report Server to print from APEX? How?

    Hello, we have Oracle Application server, Oracle Report server and now we just installed APEX and doing a pilot project. Since we don't have BI Publisher, how can we use our Oracle Report server to print from apex report? Can it be done and if yes where can I get some detail info that I can share with our DBA?
    I have in past asked questions about the printing issues but I have been refered to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html#01 section 5 which talks about another installation.
    Thanks so very much for any info.

    You can use FOP, but the formatting of the xsl (Xml Style Sheets) takes a little work. If you have the Oracle Reports server up and access to the development product, why not go that route?
    You want the filtering and sorting and searching, yes, but then you also want to print them out.. Then you would probably be best looking at replacing the Oracle Reports setup with BI Publisher. You can convert Most your reports over to bi publisher layouts easily.. (I have heard of some reports that do require recreating in Bi Publisher from Oracle Reports..)
    Then you can have your Apex Reports and call Bi Publisher from APEX and everyone wins..
    Is your Oracle Reports stuff used by non-APEX applications, that could be modified to use Bi Publisher?

  • Error: Oracle Reports Server CGI

    I am reciecing the following error when attempting to run a report from a URL using the RWCGI60 command. Oracle Reports Server CGI - Unable to communicate with the Reports Server. The following is the url I am trying to access. http://hostname/cgi-bin/rwcgi60.exe?report=V2JOURNAL2.rdf+userid=id/password@database+server=REP60_USTRSPOM001+desformat=pdf+destype=cache.

    hello,
    looks like a configuration issue. check you settings in TNSNAMES.ORA
    also check your names.default_domain in SQLNET.ORA. if you do not specify a domain it will add the default domain to the servername. i would suggest to always use a name with domain.
    regards,

  • Servlet calls to Oracle Report Server

    I have an app server (oracle 9ias) which will be available to
    the public.
    However, I also have an oracle report server that produces pdf
    reports from an rdf template but the server will not be
    available to the public.
    How can I use JSP,java servlets or other means to access the
    report server from via the app server and generate the pdf
    reports to the clients browser, bearing in mind that the client
    has no direct access to the oracle report server?

    In your JSP or servlet you can make a URLConnection to the
    reports server, passing all appropiate paramters across in the
    URL ex/ http://reports_server/reportApplication/rwcgi60.exe?
    DESFORMAT=pdf&DESTYPE=FILE&DESNAME=outputname&server=servername&p
    aram1=...&param2=... etc. you can place all the report
    parameters and values and all the Oracle Report specific
    paramters on the URL in the above format. After you open the
    java.net.URLConnection with the appropiate connection, the
    report is submitted, you can then get any error streams, or
    codes from the URLConnection API.
