Need to get .ENV and reports.sh set up correctly for 9i/WebUtil

We have been editing default.env, a app-specific version of default.env called duris.env, and reports. sh, trying to fix the conflict between Forms WebUtil and Reports in 9.0.2.0.1. Now, it's to the point that I can't even run Reports from Forms without core dumping(direct URL calls to Reports work fine) .
I am pasting the contents of these 3 files into this note, in hopes someone can look at them and tell me why Reports won't even run from Forms any more. Any suggestions are welcome. My email is [email protected].

Setting Environnemt to new machine to access sqlplus

I have trouble setting enviromnet setting to new systems , want to understand my concepts.
Make me right where i am not plz to clear my concepts.
These are the 3 things we need to set to access sqlpuls

beside these we should check which shell we are using by echo $SHELL
Do we have to set these environment differently in differenet shell? and how we can check the ORACLE_HOME, SID, PATH if we dont know it? and is there any other thing i should set to access DB sqlplus ?

Instead of this just post the error which you are getting while accessing sqlplus. That will be more helpfull to diagnose this.
and how we can check the ORACLE_HOME, SID, PATH if we dont know it?If echo $ORACLE_HOME doesn't return anything it means ORACLE_HOME is not set, so you need to set it before running sqlplus and you must know the path where oracle is installed.

Hi,
I use oracle 10g r2 in windows system,
when i try
sqlplus /nolog
conn user/pass@db1
it's working well, but i think if i set oracle_sid = db1, then i can do the following
sqlplus /nolog
conn user/pass
without type the tnsname
but, i get a error :ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
so, any ideas?

Startup open ORA_12514 error after Shutdown, just upgraded 9i to 10g

Noobe here, again! Cheers and happy New Year to all!
How should I edit script to start db that has been shutdown prior to backup?
We are having a problem with backups, failure is occurring executing SQL*Plus startup after shutdown. I successfully upgraded our 9i to 10g, 10.2.0.5.0 on Windows server 2003, 32-bit. We have a back_script.bat that runs all this, the only edits that I had to make within this were the names for the new Oracle services, but that is not a problem. When I run through the actions in the batch file, it fails at the sql>startup open; action, throws the error "ORA-12514 TNS:listener does not currently nkow of service requested in connect descriptor" What is different here between 9i and 10g that now this doesn't work? By commenting out the line calling our oracle_stop_start.sql I am getting successful >exp dumps, but there could be processes running 'cause I'm not stopping everything before proceeding with the export.
I have a complete image of the physical server running in a virtual that I am able to test on. Hopefully I'll not put too much info in here, but here is some background! Both the batch file and little stop_start script predate my involvement.
Here are the pertinent statements in our backup_script.bat:

As stated earlier, this has worked at least since 2007 when the last edits were made to the batch file. Now it fails at the sql>startup open; throwing the error ORA-12514. I can duplicate this executing each statement in a dos shell. The shutdown command closes, dismounts and shuts down the database. I have tried changing the startup statement to sql>STARTUP OPEN wind; but that makes no difference. I have found that if I exit sql*plus and log back in /nolog (in the same shell window) then I can restart the instance, what I do is:
sqlplus /nologsql>connect sys/* as sysdba;
sql>startup open wind;
This does successfully start the Oracle instance, mount and open the database. How else might I do this? I can certainly duplicate these actions, adding the necessary lines to oracle_start_stop.sql, but is there a better & cleaner way to do this? Right now I just want to make these existing scripts work. Once that is done, then I'm going to investigate and learn more about RMAN and datapump export/import and update our backup procedures.

It might be a difference in behaviour between 9i and 10g. It looks like you are connecting through sql*net (sqlplus "system/manager@wind as sysdba), so the ORACLE_SID setting is not part of your connection. When the database is shutdown you are no longer connected to any database. When you issue the startup command the ORACLE_SID is not set so there is no service specified.
If you are running this on the database server, try setting the ORACLE_SID then running your script like:

and you should still have the service set for your connection.

I thought I did, using batch=yes option. However, when running:

the pop-up window shows "Report Server is starting up". It does not change to "Report Server is ready".

Unable to install Oracle 11g Release 2 in windows 7 64 bit OS

Hi,
Am trying to install the oracle 11g Release 2 database on my Laptop,
I have downloaded the two zip files from Oracle Site
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
After downloading I have unzipped started process, but after some process, am getting an error mentioning that, am missing a file in the below location
C:\$Oracle_BASE$\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\owb\external\oc4j_applications\applications
but my unzip is successful for both the files, Please let me know why am getting this error when I have downloaded the files from Oracle site, Please let me know if I need to have
any additional s/w installed on my machine before running the Oracle database installation

SamIt wasn't preventing you from typing a password, it just wasn't echoing your keystrokes back to the screen. This is a security security feature common to most software, not just oracle. Either when asking for a password, either echo back a 'masking' character like '*' or don't echo anything. It's so common, I'm surprised you seem to have never seen it before.
So after entering your password ... the 12560 probably comes from
1- the fact you didn't have the environment variable ORACLE_SID set, so sqlplus didn' know the name of the instance/process you wanted to connect to, or
2 - the windows service for the database was not started.
Those two possibilities account for 99.99999 pct of ora-12560 on Windows installations.

Unable to install iCloud 4.0.2 on Windows 7 64 bit PC

I get the above error when attempting ot instal iCloud. I am also unable to remove a previous version of iCloud but can't display the error.

SQL+ not working: TNS-12560

I just installed XE on WXP and although the web interface works fine I can't use SQL+
Below is some information. This is very frustrating. I am an application developer; I switched from the full 10g to XE in the hope that I would no longer be wasting my time on those exasperating network problems and would be able to concentrater on developing instead but no such luck... Why is it asking too much that XE should work properly after installation? I have not changed anything beyond creating a couple of user accounts with the web interface. This is as virgin an installation as it gets.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The service called OracleXETNSListener is definitely running. Also, there is a firewall running on this box but its log does not report any blocked connection attempt from any Oracle-related process. I have allowed tnsping.exe, tnslsnr.exe and oracle.exe.

Thanks a lot! That was indeed the problem: if I do 'sqlplus sys@xe as sysdba' I can
connect. Trying to find where that orcl comes from, I did have ORACLE_SID set to orcl
in my environment and I removed it; that did it: sqlplus can now connect even if I do not
set the connect id. Maybe the installer could be enhanced to look for leftover Oracle-
related env vars?
However there is still some weirdness: the above refers to the sqlplus that comes with
the server bundle but if I use the sqlplus from the client bundle I get "ORA-12154:
TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" when I specify the connect id
and "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" when I don't. sqlnet.log shows it is still
using orcl as the SID. I don't really need the client anyway: only the jdbc jar, so I
could just remove it but this is just weird...

Ther is compatibility problem that happend with broken binaries
errno shouldn't show up with binary or library compiled against glibc 2.1+
You can use LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 (or 2.2.5) in the broken apps env
to work around this.

Script that works in 8.1.7 does not work in 9.2.0

I have a generic hot backup script that runs well in our 8i environment where I source the username and password for SYS from a secured txt file. However I could not get the script to work in our recently installed 9.2.0 environment.
Below is an extract of the hot backup script:

it connects fine and execute the procedure successfully.
in Oracle 9.2.0,

works fine with result same as in 8.1.7 - CONNECT_STRING=sys/xxxxxx@<sid>
(2) the command SQLPLUS="${ORACLE_HOME}/bin/sqlplus -s ${CONNECT_STRING}"
works fine with result SQLPLUS=/usr/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/sqlplus -s sys/xxxxxx@<sid>
(3) However, when issue $SQLPLUS <<-EOF returns an error:

How can I fix that??
Is it because of the username/password structure (sys/xxxxxx@<sid>)??
I would like to keep such username/password format if possible.
I have also tried to hard coded the username/password for variable SQLPLUS as:

But it still doesn't work when issue $SQLPLUS, it returns the following:

My first comment is that even though you are using a secure encrypted text file, putting the SYS password on the command line can make the password available to anyone on the server who can perform a ps command:

Starting in Oracle 9 (others will correct me if I am wrong) you cannot connect to the sys account without specifying as SYSDBA or SYSOPER.
My testing (9.2.0.3) resulted in your ORA-1013 using "sys/password@dbname as sysdba". Using "sys/password as sysdba" works just fine. I seem to remember if you want to use @dbname, you will need to use password file authentication instead of OS authentication.
My suggestion -if possible - is to use plain "connect / as sysdba" in your SQL Script and have ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID set correctly in your environment (do it in ${HOME}/BACKUP/${DBNAME}.env) :

Trouble using ODBC on Linux

Hi there.
I'm fairly new to ODBC, so I apologize in advance if I am missing
some cirtical piece of information in my question.
I am trying to setup ODBC so that I can connect to my Oracle
database from RODBC (a package within the R statistical package),
where R is running on my Linux box where I installed the instant
client.
I have installed the 10.2.0.3 version of the instant client
(basic, odbc, and sqlplus pieces) on my Linux machine.
I have set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include the new lib directory
/usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.3/client/lib
which contains the libsqora.so.10.1 file.
uname -a yields the following:

ODBC piece through RODBC. I have found that the errors I get from R
seem to be the same as those from isql, so I am trying to use
isql to find the root of the problem. Is there a better tool
to validate that ODBC is working on linux?
Anyway, I installed the odbc piece from the instant client, but
I had to do some editing by hand due to the way the machine

When I run isql as follows:
isql -v nickel

It seems to be that this error occurs because I don't have
ORACLE_SID set. If I set ORACLE_SID to nickel, and then

That's easily explained.
As you find documented in
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15699/post_inst_task.htm#sthref398
you have to set 'ServerName' in odbc.ini to your TNS alias, in your case:
ServerName = nickel
Since you did not give a ServerName, Oracle assumed that you want to connect to a local database.
As you rightly assume, the ORA-12162 indicates that ORACLE_SID is not set, which is needed for a local connection.
If you set ORACLE_SID, Oracle will try to establish a local connection by executing a server process $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle.
Since this executable cannot be found, you get the ORA-12545.

Error when connecting to dbase

The following error appears when I connect to the oracle database:

This other error appears when attempting to shutdown the database to reboot the server:

If you are getting the error 1034, then check if your database is correctly started.
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
Cause: Oracle was not started up. Possible causes include the following:
- The SGA requires more space than was allocated for it.
- The operating-system variable pointing to the instance is improperly defined.
Action: Refer to accompanying messages for possible causes and correct the problem mentioned in the other messages. If Oracle has been initialized, then on some operating systems, verify that Oracle was linked correctly. See the platform specific Oracle documentation.

I found the problem. Since I added NIST FIPS 140-2 in the database by add a file
$ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin/fips.ora
SSLFIPS_140=TRUE
This cause the Agent not start. Do you have any suggesting?

I've tried this:
- set correctly TIMEZONE,
- configure secure dbconsole (emctl secure dbconsole),
- stop service nscd,
- change the port number,
- recreate the repository....
But the problem still occurs...
Has someone another idea?

emctl secure agent does not exist with Oracle 11G
I tried:

But the dbconsole starting still have errors
The command status gives:

Agent is secure at HTTPS Port 3938.
Checking the security status of the OMS at [http://RD_x3650_22:5500/em/upload/..|http://rd_x3650_22:5500/em/]. Done.
OMS is running but has not been secured. No HTTPS Port available.
And the command "emctl ssl off" does nots exist with Oracle 11G
