Oracle9i Personal Edition - how to startup after DOWNLOAD

I downloaded the following product from your site today, Aug.17, 2002:
Oracle9i Personal Edition
Release 1 (9.0.1.1.0) for Windows 98
Part Number A95905-01
After the installation, there was a message that said that installation was completed already,
and that I had to reboot the PC. And so I did.
Please take note that my database will be a "standalone" one.
I tried connecting as scott/tiger and I also tried connecting as scott/TIGER,
and I just left the field "Host String" blank, not knowing what to put in.
Normally, I was expecting a readme.txt that will provide that useful info, but I couldn't find one
that would tell me.
Also, after I press the OK button in the ORACLE SQL*Plus Log on window,
it prompts me for an Oracle9i startup password.
(Please see attached file.)
Please advise.

If you are at the screen where it's asking for the sys and system password with confirmation, you need to enter the passwords.

Where is the Oracle9i Personal Edition File (for XP)? I cannot get to it from the download area. I keep getting the error, "Sorry, this page was not found. (ErrorDocument 404)".
    Thanks!

Officially Oracle is not supported on XP Home (see http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html). You can try to install anyway. Download the software (database + developer suite) from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/index.html

  • EM Personal Edition Won't start After Reboot

...I installed Oracle 10g on a WinServer 2003 machine. EM worked fine after installation of Personal Edition; after reboot, EM service won't start. Everything else works; I can even query the HR tablespace from Access and SQL Server. I've set the correct user roles on the SYS, SYSMAN, SYSDBA, etc. accounts.
I also noticed that after the reboot, the folder that was previously called:
    OC4J_DBConsole__ORABETA35
    Is now called:
    OC4J_DBConsole_192.168.2.18_ORABETA35
...but when I try to start the service from the services snapin it looks for the previous folder. So I copied the new folder into another folder and renamed that to the previous name to see if that would work; it didn't.
    thanx,
    John Bonifas

There's a systemd service so maybe try systemctl enable [email protected]
There's also a checkbox in the dropbox preferences for starting on system boot.

  • Oracle9i Personal edition on XP pro

I uninstalled the working Oracle9i standard edition and removed all the registry entries and folders. When I try to reinstall, in the universal installer navigation window destination path is empty. If I give it manually and click next, it says problem in accessing the stage area.
Anyone with clue what is happening here?
    I appreciate your help

    Guys,
I have been doing this for years - on solaris, linux and windows. You have 2 Oracle homes - one for the database and one for the forms. 6i - or iDS does not matter - 2 Oracle Homes. Same on Linux/Solaris/Windows - ok.
Define the TNS_ADMIN environment variable (applies to all 3 OS above). Set it to a directory of your choice - better yet create one. On solaris and linux /var/opt/oracle is a good choice. On windows create a directory of your choice. Also define the TWO_TASK and ORACLE_SID environment variables to match your database server settings.
Ftp the database server's tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files to the directory you created (TNS_ADMIN points to).
To be certain that you are not using the Forms' Home/network/admin/tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files - rename them. You will not use them and you won't need them (unless you want to edit them to include the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora entries from your Database server's /network/admin/tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files.
That is it - next time you connect from the forms you should be able to connect. If you want provide the connect string (3rd field in the connection window) to ensure you pointing to the right db server.
You don't need to configure your Forms' network services again - all you do is use the Oracle database server's network configuration files.
    Hope this proves useful.

  • Startup password in Oracle9i Personal Edition (Win 98)

I have installed Oracle9i but I can`t work with it because I am not able to pass the beginning password. It ocurrs during the stating up when appears a dialogue box where you can read "checking security" and after that the system asks for the password which I don't know. This password don't have any relation with the passwords accounts: system manager / sys change_on _install,. That´s what i think.
    Help me, please.

If you are at the screen where it's asking for the sys and system password with confirmation, you need to enter the passwords.

  • How to install after download?

I have just downloaded the Java program (or whatever to call it) and I have went thru the automatic installation process. What shall I d now to open the program, or does it need to be insyalled further in some way? In the helptext they mention to either click the file win.exe (correct name?) or double click in the install button. I dont fine either of them when I look in the directory in explorer. I use windows 98. What shall I do?

The Java 2 Standard Edition Software Development Kit (J2SE SDK) is a commandline compiler and a Java Runtime Environment. There isn't an 'application' that you would run from your start menu. If you're looking for a java IDE (Integrated Development Environment) download one of the free environments like:
    JBuilder Foundations (www.inprise.com)
    NetBeans (www.netbeans.org)
or simply a syntax highlighting editor with macro support
    Jext (www.jext.org)
    Jedit (www.jedit.org)
Or any number of other environments...
To use the commandline you use
    To Compile
    javac -D c:\where\my\classes\go MyJavaFile.java
    To run a class
    java the.package.name.TheClassName
Hope some of that helps... Now put up your dukes ;)

  • Installing Oracle Personal edition

    Hi,
I am Ritesh Kothari.Currently doing my MS in computer science from Ohio University. I want to install Oracle Personal Edition on my Win98 machine. Currently I have 1 GB of hard disk free.I have downloaded the Oracle9i Personal Edition Release 9.0.1.1.0 for Microsoft Windows 98
    The file: A91514-01.zip.
But when I click on setup.exe then nothing happens. I didnt understand what is the problem? Plz help me.
    Ritesh

    Try this:
Just found this on the be.comp forum: Will try it tonight.
    Oracle 8.1.5 Personal Edition
Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.5 PE into
    Windows Millennium.
As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
    installation:
    Jrew=0x00080000
After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
    There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
Oracle may add a non-standard path statement to the
autoexec.bat file. Please modify this SET PATH
statement to use short-filenames if you find a quoted
LFN string represented as part of the path. You can
confirm that the path was merged successfully into the
registry after reboot by examining the PATH variable
    in the registry at
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment
Symptoms of a missing Oracle path statement in the registry are that Net8 Easy Config will not launch.
Please note that Oracle does not support the use of this
product in Windows ME, but have authorized these workarounds
    for testing purposes only.

  • Installing Oracle 10g personal edition

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 10g personal edition on ubuntu. After installing I ran the following command: /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure and by mistake gave a port number for HTTP port on which already another server is running. But now I am unable to change my configuration settings.
Everytime I give the command /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure it says "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition is already configured"
How can I change the configuration setting now? Do I need to reinstall it? Would be a great help, if somebody can tell me.
    Thanks,
    tulip

In oder for you to handle ports and monitor port assignment follow these steps:

  • Burning and installing 8i Personal Edition after download

    Hello,
I downloaded the Orcale DB 8i Personal Edition (nt817personal.zip) for WinNT/2000/XP.
I extracted the zip file and burned the contents on a CD ROM. During the burn software file scan, I got a message saying that the directory depth exceeds the ISO limt (8), and it could cause problems reading it on old operating systems. Since I intended to install it on Win2000, I chose to continue.
When I tried to install from the CD, the installaion stopped with no error during "analyzing dependencies" stage.
I copied all the files from the CD to the HD and tried again, but encountered the same problem.
Only after I downloaded the original file again, extracted it localy and installed from the HD did the installation go through.
I would like to have a CD copy of the installation file, what should I do ? should I burn the zipped file and extract it locally each time I need to install ?
BTW - I used EZ CD Creator to burn the CD.
    Thanks,
    Flash

The problem is that Personal 8i isn4t compatible with Windows ME. But don4t worry. There4s a solution. Before you install it, modify the WIN.INI file, in the section [Compatibility95], adding Jrew=0x00080000. Reboot your system and try to install it again. Good luck.
