Organizer in Photoshop Elements 8 hangs

I have PhotoShop Elements 8 (boxed DVD) installed on a HP Elite desktop with Intel i-core 7 processor with Windows 7 - 64 bit operating system. The PSE 8 organizer will not load and hangs up. The editior, however, loads. Unistalled and reinstalled the software and the results are the same. Any suggestions. I have also asked for support at ADOBE technical support.

I see you were able to help someone that was experiencing Elements Organizer 8 hanging.  I tried going to your link, but couldn't get to the correct spot.  Maybe its changed?
I have Photoshop Elements 8.0 and Premier Elements 8.0. I was uploading photos to Shutterfly today when my computer went to sleep. When I brought the computer back I got a screen saying preparing Elements and all the pictures were visable. The screen was frozen. I couldn't stop it and so I proceeded with a Start / Shutdown.
Now after rebooting when it came to the Elements Welcome screen it said an error had occurred and wanted me to report it.
After several reboots I am unable to open Organizer. It seems to be going through start up process, but then just stops. The messages in the right hand corner say loading messages and then stop. I can open the Editor fine, but also can import images from Organizer or open Organizer from the Editor.
Same problems in Premier. Editor opens, but Organizer does not.
I have tried the suggestion of opening Organizer straight from the .exe file rather than the welcome window, but have the same issue as menitioned... I get a quick flash of the blue start up page and then its gone.
- I have rebooted several times.
- Uninstalled Quicktime - Adobe help menu said it could cause problems.
- Deleted Temporary files.
- Went to Services.msc and restarted the Adobe Active File Monitor v8
- another page said to press CTRL/ALT/SHIFT while trying to open ORganizer from the Welcome Screen, but that also didn't work.
NOthing has helped so far.
I'm sure hoping I can get this working without having to reinstall. I've done a lot of tagging of pictures and would hate to lose that.
PS:  I have been using Organizer just fine for many years without issue on the same computer.
Thanks,
BZ
Bingo! After several hours of trying different things, this finally did it...
PSE 7: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408913.html
The PSE 7 tech note also applies to PSE 8 – replace 7.0 with 8.0 in the folder name it says to delete.
I deleted the folder "Photoshop Elements 8.0.0" found in this location:

  • I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?

I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?  Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

  • The organizer of Photoshop Elements 8 - Problem of sequence of dates

    Bonjour,
I have a problem with the organizer of Photoshop Elements 8, especially with the sequence of the pictures in the catalog.
My understanding is that the sequence of the pictures depends of the Exifs dates.
Problem in my catalog: It takes generally the date taken, but sometimes the date digitized even if the date taken is available.  I have used Exifer to check the dates but also PhotoMe and Exif Manager.
Thanks in advance for a solution.

The problem with 2002-12-25_F1030011.jpg is that it contains an invalid date/time in the XMP:DateTimeOriginal field of its metadata:
    Date/Time Original: 2002:12:25 08:29:00
The XMP metadata specification requires that a time zone be specified, e.g.
    Date/Time Original: 2002:12:25 08:29:00+01:00
Evidently, when PSE doesn't find a valid XMP:DateTimeOriginal field, it then uses the EXIF:CreateDate field, "2008:04:10 14:59:08".
I believe that Microsoft Pro Photo Tools wrote the invalid value in XMP:DateTimeOriginal.   It's shown as the last software to have modified the XMP section:
    ---- XMP ----
    About                           : uuid:faf5bdd5-ba3d-11da-ad31-d33d75182f1b
    Date/Time Original              : 2002:12:25 08:29:00
    Date/Time Modified              : 2002:12:25 08:29:00
Software                        : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Software                        : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Creator Tool                    : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
Creatortool                     : Microsoft Pro Photo Tools
I verified that my Pro Photo Tools incorrectly writes dates/times without a time zone.
You could fix this with the free Exiftool by doing:
    exiftool -xmp:datetimeoriginal= 2002-12-25_F1030011.jpg
This deletes the XMP:DateTimeOriginal field, causing PSE to use the EXIF:DateTimeOriginal field, which is also present in the file.   You could run exiftool on all your photos that might be affected via:
    exiftool -xmp:datetimeoriginal= -r c:\users\you\pictures
Then select the corresponding thumbnails in the Organizer and do Edit > Update Thumbnail to cause PSE to re-read the metadata.  Note that Exiftool will make copies before modifying files, adding _original to the name of the copies.

  • No organizer in Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac?

Is that normal? I've been trying to learn how to use photoshop with online tutorials, but they are not much help when every video says to start in organizer which I don't have it. There isn't even a button for it. How do you import your photos if you don't have organizer?

If you bought the app store version, yes. You will notice it's called "Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor" because that's all you get, although they sure could have made that clearer on the app store page. They are assuming, I guess, that most people who buy it this way would use iPhoto or Aperture or whatever if they want an organizer. Since it doesn't organize your photos, there's no need to import anything. Just open the photo for editing (file>open) or set PSE as your external editor from whatever asset management program you use, if you use one.
Even among those who have organizer, many ignore it completely. It's certainly not mandatory that you incorporate in your workflow.

  • My catalogues and tags are missing from my Organizer in Photoshop Elements 10? What is going on?

My catalogues and tags are missing from my Organizer in Elements 10. What is going on?

Thank you for the advice. I have a PC and the catalogs were for the most part where you said they would be, on the C drive under Program Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs. The last six months folder as well as a cruise I took in 2012 is missing but the rest seems to be there. Now I seem to have two Organizers-the one I just found and the one I created with my March 2013 trip pictures. How do I put them together and find them when I click on the Photoshop elements Organizer icon? You mentioned “pointing “ PSE to it in the default mode? How do I do that?

  • Can't view single file in organizer. Photoshop Elements 13 Mac

When I double click on a photo the screen is gray with a question mark. How do I view a single file?

Your post did not specifically say which version of Photoshop abnd Premiere Elements you have - I am guessing that you have version 9.
For both versions 8 and 9, the Organizer component is the same for both Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements. So since your specific question is about video in the Adobe Elements Organizer, I suggest that you also post this question on the Adobe Premiere Elements forum because it has more participants knowledgeable in video (and its technical aspects such as codecs). My version of photoshop elements 10 works perfectly
But after the conclusion of the program and back a few moment later the
    organizer won't open
I am obliged to shut down my PC completely and only then the organizer works again
Fully reinstalled Photoshop Elements 10 the same problem occurs

Yes that will work. If for example you have PSE8 installed, when you install PRE10 it can link to the PSE8 Organizer. But you could import your clips/media into a separate catalog for use with PRE. When you launch PRE10 simply click the Organize button on the welcome screen.

  • Organizer in Photoshop Elements 9 won't import large NEF files

Photoshop Elements 9 won't import the NEF fiels from my new Nikon D800.

Yes, the camera is too new for PSE9. You will have to either:
    Upgrade to PSE11
Download the free Adobe DNG Converter Version 7.3 and use that to convert your NEFs to DNGs, and then PSE9 will be able to import them
Use the Nikon software to convert the file to TIF, then import into PSE.

  • How do I stop the organizer in Photoshop Elements 9 from closing?

I purchased Adobe Photoshop and Premeire Elements 9 two years ago.  The organizer would never stay open long enough for me to do anything with it.  I figured it was just my computer which had been having issues.  I installed it on my new computer this week and it is doing the same thing.   Is something set incorrectly or is this software just junk?  The company now encourages me to buy Version 11.  If 9 never worked why trust 11?  Any suggestions?

Can you explain any error you are getting while running the organizer. Also any information about the hardware/software configuration would be helpful

  • Can't find Organizer on Photoshop elements 8

I bought Photo Elements  and installed it last Spring. I sort of blundered around  with it and managed to finish a project I needed to do, but it was very difficult, so I finally broke down and bought  the book that teaches how to use it.  The first thing the book talks about is to click Organizer on the Welcome  screen.  There is no Organizer on my welcome screen and the picture of the welcome screen in the book does not look like my welcome screen. My welcome screen has a smiling girl and says nothing about either Organize or Edit.
Can anyone tell me what's going on, here and How I can find organizer?

If you have a mac, there is no organizer. You got adobe bridge instead.
