Originating File Sharing Mini with Leopard G3 Beige and Vice Verse.

I guess a sub-heading of this would be connecting to the newest Mac from an older one.
Here is a problem: I can set up the G3 Beige (running Jaguar) as a file sharing server and very easily connect to it from the a Mac Mini by using top menu Go>Connect to server.
Where i run into what seems to be impossible is to do the same thing from the G3. Nothing seems to establish a connection. It is always rejected with a no connection error message.
Both machines are wirelessly connecting through a router. The mini with internal airport and the G3 beige using an external D-link bridge. Both work fine accessing the internet.
Main reason i wanted to do this is that my Shared Printer is on the Mini and i wanted to print something from the Beige to it.
Can anybody help, or am i attempting the impossible.

DEAR Grant Bennet-Adler: Thank you for your last reply. I'm not sure exactly what i did but I was able to connect. To answer your questions:
IP Addresses are similar. One is ...101 and the other is ...102.
My router uses DHCP.
What seemed to fix the problem was going to security>firewall on the MINI and checking
o Allow all incoming messages.
Not sure what ODS Agent.app is but it is highlighted as allow incoming vs blocked.
Both computers "allow personal file sharing"
On the G3 i was able to connect after a bit of trial and error: On the G3, when i "Connect to Server" i am presented with three choices of servers, one of which is the G3 itself--I wish the system wouldn't remember irrelevance.
One of the choices is OK and when i checkit i get the ID and Password Dialog--again for ID i am presented with the MINI's name and not my user (Admin) name.
Change that, type in the password and i am given a list of drives on the folder. That includes any opened from a .img.
After i open one i then see it on my desktop and can get into it.
One slight problem: Once into one, i can;t go back to "go to server" to open more. I get timeouts, error messages and other stuff. I have to start over. That also appears to be to include disconnecting the connection to the G3 server that gets set up on the MINI.
Regards:
p.s I hven't gotten into Shared Printer although i saw it did show up in the Firewall dialog.I think i have the Canon MP470 Software on the G3 as well as the Mini but i will have to check on it.
p.p.s. Next thing is to try X PostFacto on the G3 again to try to install a later OS; but this time not making the mistakes that totally messed it up the last time, last year, that i tried it.

  • File Sharing between Snow Leopard MacBook Pro and Mac OS 8.6 Powerbook 1400

well ok, for some this might sound ridicule. Why should I still be using a 13 year old PowerBook. Let me tell you, this is writing/typing heaven, Zen-like; no distractions at all, no twitter, no internet (although possible), no emails just pure you and your text and if you spin down the HDD, absolute silence. as said before pure Zen writing heaven. and on top of that you're typing on the best keyboard ever on a laptop.
As you might see I love my vintage masterpiece of a laptop and use it on a regular basis. Just one Problem.
Since I Installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 17" I just haven't been able to establish a connection between the two machines.
I have to admit, I'm not that versed with OS 8.6 but with 10.5 I had absolutely no problems accessing the shared folders on my MacBook Pro and vice versa.
My first thought was to activate Appletalk on the ethernet on my Macbook, which I failed to find anywhere. The Apple Discussions Forums revealed that Appletalk has been dropped with the introduction of Snow Leopard but all the entries where regarding printing issues with shared printers, I didn't find anything about actual file sharing and thus did not get any clues how to share files between my two machines.
My PowerBook 1400cs/166 runs on 8.6 and I use a Global Village Platinum PCMCIA card (modem and Ethernet combi card). this setup worked perfectly with 10.5 but I have not been able to make establish a connection since running 10.6 on my MBP.
I am really desperate since I heavily depend on being able to exchange files between those two machines through an ethernet connection.
So I kindly ask anyone who might be able to help me to please consider posting any solutions or at least ideas which could help me with my problem. I really would greatly appreciate any effort whatsoever.
Thank you very much for your time.
    EDIT:
What I forgot to mention: strangely enough, when I enable Internet Sharing on my MacBook Pro (through Airport) to Ethernet, my PowerBook 1400 can connect to the internet without any problems.

First of all let me thank you very much. It actually works (partially).
There seems to be a problem though. While I can connect perfectly from my MBP 10.6 to my PowerBook 1400, the other way round doesn't work.
My MBP does not show up in the Network browser of OS 8.6 but I could life with that.
The problem is that if I try to connect to my MBP from my PB1400 by entering the IP directly a alert message appears reading that the "User Authentication Method required by this server can't be found, please check the AppleShare folder in the Extensions folder and try again".
Do you have any clues what I'm doing wrong or where the problem may lie?
    PS.
Even if you may not be able to further help me with this problem, I ow you a great deal of gratitude and am very thankful for your help so far. At least I can exchange files between the two machines and that's what I needed in the first place.

  • How to connect an non-hana-ewm with an Hana-ECC and vice versa

    Hello,
for our migration project planning I am wondering how to connect EWM on SAP with ECC on Hana and vice versa.
As it is, both systems are (productive) on non - hana with actual SAP-Release and have to be migrated.
The background of my question: we may be not able do the "big bang" thing to migrate ERP ECC607 and EWM (with special Add-Ons) at one point to Hana (DMO) and therefore may need an interim solution. I checked ETL and LTS as "connectors" but they - from my point of view -  are one-way solutions from EWM to ECC/Hana -not bidirectional.I Found some questions concerning the same theme in the net but no solution at all till now..
How about BODS ? (Didnt work with it yet)
    Best regards,
       Ronald

Great. So I have to either install OS X, or buy a new mcahine. Can OS X run on a G3 without grinding to a halt?
By the way, I cannot get the iPod to even mount when connected via firewire. The USB/firewire PCMCIA card does not have drivers for OS 9. I thought that this support was built into OS 9. The USB port works (although the iPod will not mount when connected via USB either). Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • My Outlook calendar won't sync with my ipod touch and vice versa.  Wherever I input the info is where it stays. Contacts and notes sync but not calendar.

My iPod Calendar won't sync with my Outlook Calendar and vice versa.  Wherever I input the information is where it stays.  My contacts and notes sync just fine.  Please help.  Very frustrated.  It used to work just fine.  I just upgraded to iTunes 10.2 version.

I have the same problem since I updated to iTunes 10.2 Sue (I think). For me this was somewhere in January.
I wasn't sure iTunes was the issue, until I read your post. I tested syncing a note, and that works fine.
My 2nd generation Ipod Touch runs on IOS 4.2.1. It won't upgrade to 4.3.
Possibly the synchonisation between iTunes 10.2 and IOS 4.2.1 doesn't work correctly.
Has somebody else solved this isue? I use both calendars (on iPod Touch and on PC) for work and private matters.
Otherwise I have to uninstall iTunes 10.2 and downgrade to 10.2.

  • Mac OS 10 can't see files on HD coming from OS 9 and vice versa?

Hello, all!  Got a TiBook 1Ghz with a 255 GB HD which I've partitioned in half, one for Tiger/OS 9 and one for Leopard.  Problem:  Any file placed on Vol 2 in OSX is invisible in OS 9 and vice versa, so one writes over the other.  Vol 1 works fine.  Tried reformatting, disk repair, DiskWarrior 9 and 10, re-installing all the operating systems.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Hi, kennethfromtoronto & BGreg!  I do know that OS  9 is not supported by Leopard, however I'm not talking about running 9 in Classic.  This TiBook will run 9 by itself, but when I run OS 9 it is from Volume 1 which also has Tiger installed.  I can boot from Tiger or from OS 9 from Volume 1 and they both run just fine.
The problem is that when do I boot from OS 9, it can't see the files on Volume 2 that were placed there under OS X Tiger.  Conversely, when I run Tiger, the files I put on Vol 2 while running OS 9 are not visible.  It's like I'm running a parallel universe.  Unfortunately, this allows one system to overwrite whatever was put on the volume from the other system, and vice versa, with the net effect that I don't dare run OS 9 for fear of overwriting data on Volume 2.
Also when I do run Leopard from the second volume, it also cannot see any files on Volume 2 that were put there under OS 9.
Note that with Volume 1 there is no visibility problem, no matter which of the three systems is running.  It happens with the second volume, whether it has an operating system installed on it or not.
Usually I am good at figuring this stuff out, but you see how confusing this is...  My thinking is there might be a bug in the Apple formatting software?  I used the Disk Utility from my external hard drive which runs Leopard.
Makes a good puzzle to solve, anyway...  Thanks for the help!

  • How to link idoc with its corresponding documents and vice versa...

    Hello Experts,
What are the tables, transactions, etc that can link a certain document(e.g. PO, GR, invoice) to its IDoc and
    vice versa.
Thank you guys and take care!

    Hi,
The Message Control parameters from the partner profiles must also match the corresponding
fields in the output type. These parameters include:
    u2212 Application
    u2212 Partner
    u2212 Partner function
    u2212 Output type
    Tcode  - NACE  (Output Control)
Tables - SRRELROLES  (Object Relationship Service: Roles)
Message Control is a mechanism by which documents are output based on certain conditions.
    1) The application id, communication structure and o/p determination procedure are responsible for triggering IDocs corresponding to a particular application document. For this to happen message control settings have to be done.
    2) Message Control u2013 also referred to as output control or conditioning technique u2013 is a cross-application component used as a service program in several areas. The basic concept behind Message control is to generate and manage outputs from an application and control their timings and medium of exchange.
    3) Message control settings can be done via transaction NACE or via transaction NACO.
    4) Starting point in message control in the u201COutput Determination Procedureu201D (Procedure within NACE txn.). Depending upon the configuration setting in SPRO this procedure is determined.
A procedure defines a set of possible outputs for an application. We can define several procedures for an application, but only one can be configured as
active (i.e. for a particular transaction document within an application only one procedure will be determined based on configuration settings).
    Eg->
    a) For Delivery (txn. VL01NO) the document type setting in configuration (SPRO -> Logistics Execution -> Shipping -> Deliveries -> Define Delivery types) determines the procedure.
So whenever we save a document of particular application (of particular application id) and of particular document type, the particular o/p determination procedure is triggered.
    b) For sales, SPRO -> Sales and Distribution -> Basic Functions -> Output Control -> Output Determination -> Output Determination Using the Condition Technique.
    5) In the transaction NACE we can see that corresponding to application id (say u2018V2u2019 (shipping)) various procedures are defined:
    6) Before making the entry of the output type corresponding to a particular procedure, we have to define it with its attributes.
The output type defines the characteristics and attributes of the output itself. We can access the output types on transaction NACE by selecting an application and clicking the Output type button.
    7) Access sequence defines a sequence in which business rules are checked for proposing an output type. It has following attributes:
    - A set of business rules or conditions.
    - A sequence in which the rules or conditions are checked.
    - A requirement that checks for business rules using ABAP programs.
    - An exclusive or inclusive strategy.
We can access the access sequences on transaction NACE by selecting an application and clicking the Access Sequences button.
Business rule 1 is based on SOrg./Distrib.Ch/Division/Customer. Business rule 2 is based on Sales Organization/Customer Number. Each business rule is, effectively, a set of fields defined in a condition table.
    8) Condition table specifies the key fields for a business rule. Hence for Business rule 1 the key is Sales Org., Distribution Channel, Division and Customer.
    9) Condition records are inserted in the condition table. The transaction is evaluated with the key (of the condition table based on business rule) and if the transactional data matches with the condition record the output is proposed.
Condition records are defined at last.
    10) Several programs and tables are part of Message Control. For EDI, the following tables and programs will frequently be dealt with:
*NAST - This table has an entry for the processing program used for an output type.
*TNAPR - This table has an entry for the processing program used for an output type.
*RSNAST00 - This program is used to process entries in the NAST table.
*RSNASTED - This processing program exists for each output medium. ALE_PROCESSING is the routine in the RSNASTED program to process ALE outputs.
    11) Final overview of the components used in Message control to propose outputs.
    12) After doing all the settings for message control, the partner profile setting for this ALE scenario needs to be accomplished. We need to add the following entry to the outbound parameters of the partner profile:
    13) One important question that arises at this juncture is, how is the partner profile determined from the output type is case of ALE?
This is information is stored in table EDP12 (Partner Profile: Outbound with Message Control). Based on the Partner type of receiver (RCVPRT), output type (KSCHL) and Application for message conditions - without value table (KAPPL), the Partner number of receiver (RCVPRN), Outbound process code(EVCODA), Message type (MESTYP) and other related values are determined.

  • File sharing issue with Leopard and Windows XP

I had no problem with file sharing (see the Windows machine on Leopard) before I reinstall the XP and update to SP3.
Now I cannot get the XP shared disk displayed on Leopard Finder. I looked through some guides and check these:
    Both the two laptops are in the same workgroup called "WORKGROUP";
    XP firewall disabled;
    XP Guest Account enabled.
But I just cannot get the Windows icon back to the left column of my Finder. Have I missed something? Any body with any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Same problem but almost the reverse. 10.5.2 server, windows clients file browsing, opening and saving speed is great, but our 4 iMac clients (Leopard also) really, really slow to generate thumbnail views of files and open them. Happens across several shares, seems to be a problem with AFP, although now after disabling AFP on some of the shares, it is happening on SMB as well. I have read several other discussions on this forum that attempt to deal with AFP performance issues, but none provide a real solution. Now that it is also happening with the SMB protocol as well I am getting a bit concerned.
Any advice or even a link to more info would be greatly appreciated.

  • File Sharing Speed with Leopard Server/ Windows XP

Went from Panther Server to Leopard Server. Panther worked fine. Leopard Server we've had a lot of problems with Windows XP clients. We run data files from the server. Using Panther the file sharing speed was comparable to putting the data file on the PC itself. When we moved to Leopard the speed went through the floor. 8 seconds on the PC and 4.5 minutes on the Server. The server is a substantially stronger machine with a lot more resources - but we've had to stop using it for it's intended purpose.
    Help?

  • Why is it so hard to drag & drop files from a PC to a Mac and vice-versa?

I realize we have two totally different operating systems, but it seems that you can get so close to sharing files and then there's a blockade. I have a iMac 24 and I love it. I also love Cored Draw, have been using it for 15 years and I still don't have the courage to install my purchased copy of Parallels!!! So I create vector graphics on my PC, then export as a GIF or PDF. I can use those files on my pc, but for some strange reason... in the folder where I'm storing them (and they show up on the PC) only the original *.cdr Corel files are showing up... none of the GIF files or JPG or PDF files show up. And like I said, they are there, I can see them in the explorer window on the pc.
This is crazy... I need to be able to easily shuffle files back and forth. Obviously running OSX latest version on the Mac, running Vista Home Premium on the PC. PC shows up in finder, as does the folder... just those image files that don't. Is there a simple explanation? TIA

What I meant (and didn't explain well enough) was you should try to put your .jpgs in a different/separate folder, e.g. copy/duplicate/export or whatever you need to do on a Windows machine to get a separate copy in a separate location. You could test it by sending yourself an email attachment and/or copy it to a thumb drive, other external, or a CD. If you can open/read any of those on the Mac, then I'd say the problem is on the Windows side. I have to help my elderly neighbor occasionally with his Windows machine and encountered a similar problem: a .jpg he wanted me to copy to a thumb drive would not cooperate.
+Is it possible that a Mac cannot see/read files created under Vista+
AFAIK, .jpgs and .pdfs are a "universal" format; I email either/both to/from friends using Windows and we've never had a problem. I'm not sure about .cdr since that is a proprietary format and may only work with the app version it was created in.

  • Windows file sharing issues with Leopard

One of my clients has a Mac Mini server running Leopard with all updates installed. He has 2 Windows PCs in his office (1 XP and 1 Vista) and 1 MacBook Air running Leopard.
I created two folders in /Users/Shared and created a new full (standard) user account (SMB doesn't seem to like "share only" accounts). I turned off the OS X Firewall and set the two folders to be read/write shares for the new account I created. I turned on SMB sharing in Options.
On the Windows XP machine, I can read/write to the Mac Mini's shared folders just fine, however I cannot delete files for some reason. I always get an error saying the file is locked or I don't have permission to erase it. I tried moving the share folder to different locations, thinking it was a parent folder permission issue. No dice. It doesn't seem to matter who creates the file, I cannot delete it from the Windows computer. I can delete it fine from any Mac in the office.
    Any ideas?

The default behavior for the /Users/Shared folder is that you can only delete files you put in the Shared folder - this is called the "sticky bit." ie: User A saves/moves a file into Shared, User B can read/write that file but cannot delete it, User A can read/write and delete. The sticky bit can be set via Terminal.

  • Apple has broken Windows file sharing in Snow Leopard

    Hi Folks,
    Having a serious problem here.
Apple has broken Windows file sharing in Snow Leopard. Many others on the forums are experiencing the same thing. I was almost ready to fully switch to the Mac, then I thought I would upgrade to SL, then this happened...
OK so I have a Windows Server 2003 Small Business Server. It's pretty much the same as the standard Windows 2k3 server except that it throws in a few extras (And takes some things away). I'm also lead to believe, that there is a difference w.r.t. password signing/encryption or something?
Anyways, if I try and connect to my SBS server with the correct username and password (In different formats: Domain\username or just username), I get a "Unable to connect to server. Check IP..." blablabla. This happens after the password prompt has come up.
If I try and connect to my standard windows 2003 server box, it does work, just very slowly (Again, referring to the whole thing about how SBS treats password security differently).
So I ask a couple of things:
    1) It would be appreciated if any other forums members could maybe help me get this going?
    2) A plea to Apple - please fix this. It all worked perfectly in Leopard!
Apple probably haven't tested SL against SBS 2003 server. A lot of companies don't do this either as they think that it is just the same as the standard 2003 server (Which i hope Apple have tested against!)
    Thanks guys

I have the same problem. Here are the details:
External Hard Drive with LAN (Buffalo Drivestation Flexnet: http://tinyurl.com/kk5mmu)
    Mac OS X 10.6, on 3 different Mac Mini's
This error occurs on all computers when trying to copy a file to the 'SHARE' sharepoint on the SMB Drive:
"The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "filename" can't be read or written. (Error Code -36)"
    I CAN
Access / Read / Write this Drive in Windows XP
Access / Read / Write this Drive in OS X 10.5.7
Make new folder on this Drive in OS X 10.6
See a .DS_Store file which 10.6 has written to the Drive
Save a document to the drive from the Text Edit save dialog in 10.6
Save a document to the drive from the Pages save dialog in 10.6
Duplicate a document on the drive using Terminal (cp Untitled.pages Untitled2.pages) in 10.6
Copy anything to any other computer on the Network using 10.6
    I CAN NOT
Copy a document to the Drive in 10.6
Duplicate a document on the Drive in 10.6
Save a PDF or JPG to the drive from the Preview save dialog in 10.6
This error happens every time. It is easily reproducible.
I hope that this information helps Apple get on to the problem soon.

  • File sharing problems with my Media Player, an A C Ryan

I have a media player, an A C Ryan, hooked up to my wifi at home and it normally accesses all my hard disks that is plugged and shared on my iMac. I had no problems when the iMac was on Snow Leopard. Under Network/Workgroup in the AC Ryan's menu, I can see and access all the files on the hard disks.
The moment I upgraded to Lion, all such access was lost. The AC Ryan cannot connect to the hard disks any more via the wifi network. it's as though file sharing has stopped completely. I checked the file sharing settings on the iMac and nothing has changed i.e. the disks were shared as usual. After struggling with many possible solutions and failing (I checked out a lot of forums), I reintalled Snow Leopard and the problems were immediately solved.
Is there something seriously wrong with Lion's file-sharing? Has this been fixed in 10.7.2? My friend who has a similar setup (his media player is the WD Live) has exactly the same file sharing problem with Lion.
I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I believe that NTFS-3G has issues with Lion.
I use Paragon NTFS and have had no issues at all. I am pretty sure that NTFS-3G will get updated, but you need to check their site to find out when.
