  • Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase harddisk and install Leopard Snow Leopard Mountain Lion. Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion

Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase the harddisk and install Leopard > Snow Leopard > Mountain Lion.
Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion?

I tried and failed for several hours to install Mountain Lion, and was repeatedly getting the "Recovery System" cannot be created error.  I tried all the tricks: resizing the drive partition, booting from an external boot drive, all to no avail.  After reading other users struggling with the same issue, I had determined it to be a boot camp drive error.  However, I didn't want to have to erase and begin anew when I came upon a possible solution.  I had long ago renamed my boot camp drive with a "." (".windows" for me) in order to avoid having the partition show up on my desktop.  So, I boot into windows and renamed the c: drive without the "." ("windows"), and reboot into os x.  The install then went off without a hitch.  I hope this will be helpful for others struggling with this issue that may have renamed their boot camp drives in a similar manner.

  • Mountain Lion refuses to install on Hard disk because it is used for Time Backups. I have mounted a different disk for tame backups and still, I cannot install the OSX. What do I do?

I donwloaded the Mountain Lion OSX and it would not install because it said that the hard disk is used for Time Backups. I then mounted a separate Hard Disk and started running the time backups on it.
Still, the Mountain Lion would not install on the main hard disk.
How do I convince it that the haerd disk is no longer used for time backups?

Mountain Lion fails to install saying it cannot create the recovery; I had a similar problem with Lion and the Apple Store that helped me resolve it gave me an installable version of Mountain Lion on a flash drive for my inconvenience....is there some trick I am missing or do I need to make an appointment with a genius...

I have the MacIntosh volume and the Boot Camp partition only.  I know that when I installed Lion, I had to go through a whole back-up and recovery of Windows and then re-format the drive.
The tech at the Apple Store had a previous life as a MSCE and was very helpful.  I believe he even said that I should not have htis problem with Mountain Lion which is why they gave me the flash with it onboard.  I was in the process of starting a new job when I went to Lion, so I have waited to do this next and probably last upgrade to this old MBP since I doubt Apple will support this MBP in Maverick.
I do not have another installation, so that is not an option.  I will try to create an external, I have plenty of hard drives around and see if I can get it done that way.  It might take me a week or two to get back to it, but I will comment back upon completion of that effort.  Thanks for your help....Dave Iverson

  • Mountain Lion can't install but won't let me quit the installer!

Mountain Lion can't install but won't let me quit the installer! How can I get back to the desktop?

I was having the same problem with my iMac. Couldn't left click with the wireless mouse, i tried all the steps above to no avail. I then tried to use another mouse, this time bluetooth and still had the same problems. I decided to see if my trackpad, which sits in the corner of my desk and never gets used, and then i realize that my cat is lying on top of the trackpad which was causing my problem the whole time.
I hope your fix was as simple as mine.

iCloud isn't syncing them on your phone.  You simply added the email account to your phone and enabled calendar and notes syncing with the email provider, and the calendar and notes appear in the calendar and notes apps on your phone.  You can do this with Gmail, Yahoo and other IMAP account.  iCloud email is just another IMAP account, but syncs notes with Apple's iCloud server just as Gmail syncs notes and calendars with Google's server.
iCloud didnt' set up a non-iCloud account on your Mac.  When you check Mail in System Preferences>iCloud, it only creates an iCloud email account.  You can also add other email accounts to your Mac by going to System Preferences>Mail,Contacts,Calendars and clicking on the "+" sign on the bottom of the left sidebar.  If you added these other email accounts to your Mac before you upgraded to Mountain Lion, these were simply maintained on your Mac after you upgraded.

  • After installation of Mountain Lion Unable to use Microsoft ----

After installing Mountain Lion I am unable to open Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point and entourage.  Also Quark Express.
What do I need to do?

    Hi babscott,
I assume you are using QuarkXPress 6.5 or earlier. As these are not Intel-native, these versions need Apple's emulation environment (called Rosetta) to run on modern Macs. Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta anymore.
So you need to upgrade to at least version 7.0.1 (9.3. is current) to get QuarkXPress to run on Mountain Lion. Upgrades are possible from any version.
As Csound1 correctly points out, QuarkXPress 9.3 is not yet officially certified on Mountain Lion. Still, most Quark users though can run it just fine on Mountain Lion. There is one known issue (besides the Gatekeeper limitation when installing) with some Graphics Cards, removing "Welcome Screen.xnt solves" that. • HT201316 Mountain lion will not install and sends me to support/no-recovery

I can't load Mountain Lion since it doesn't support recovery  any way around this glitch

    Hi,
I had the same problem, unable to install Mountain Lion due to recovery problem. After a long investigation I found out that my Recovery HD partition was only 613.6MB and it should appearently be 650MB !
    --- BEFORE ---
    $ diskutil list
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *120.0 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS Macintosh HD            119.1 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             613.6 MB   disk0s3
What I did to solve this was to delete the Recovery HD partition using the following steps:
    * In terminal window write the following: defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1
    * Go to Disk Utility where you now should have debug menu. Select the option to show all paritions.
    * Delete your Recovery HD partition.
    * Make sure that you have at least 650MB free on your OSX drive. If not decrease the size of your OSX partition.
    * Install Mountain Lion and it will then automatically create a new Recovery HD partition.
    --- AFTER ---
    $ diskutil list
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *120.0 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS Macintosh HD            118.9 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3
I hope this can be helpful to someone.

  • Mountain Lion Won't Install on Mac Mini (Late 2014)

My relatively new Mac Mini (Late 2014) is running Yosemite.
I have purchased Mountain Lion in order to run a favoured version of sound editing software which is not compatible with either Yosemite or Mavericks.
Attempts to download my purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store result in the following message "We could not complete your purchase. OSX Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer".
The 'Learn More' button takes me to the support article which states that Mountain Lion requires hardware of Mac Mini (Early 2009 or newer).
In terms of software, it requires that Lion is already installed.
My query is do I need to purchase Lion and install it before I can install Mountain Lion?
My concern with this is that Lion itself requires Snow Leopard itself installed on the machine!
    Cheers,
    Lou.

That is correct. Versions of OSX prior to Yosemite do not have the divers to support the 2104 Mac Mini.
You may be able to run ML as a virtual machine (VM) using a VT app like the free VirualBox and paid parallels.
However, you may not be able to get a copy of ML to install unless yo have another Mac that allows you to download the installer.

  • If Mountain Lion comes pre-installed on my machine, how can I get the OS discs if it's only available via download?

Had someone ask a very good question, I think.
If you buy a new Mac that has Mountain Lion pre-installed on the machine, you are able to download updates as they come out; however, you can't necessarily download the Mountain Lion installer via the App Store since it came already installed on your computer.
So my question is, how can you get a OS disk/drive of Mountain Lion if your computer fails? I know Apple has the Recovery drive, and even the Internet Recovery drive, along with Time Machine and whatever else, but what if none of these options are available to recover the computer?
I suggested to the person to clone their hard drive using the 30-day trial of Carbon Copy Cloner. That way, they have a bootable image with the OS already available in case they run into this option. BUT, what if that isn't even an option? How does one go about recovering their computer if no OS disc of Mountain Lion is available?
I haven't been able to find anything about workarounds besides the methods I mentioned above, so please tell me if I am missing something.

you can't necessarily download the Mountain Lion installer via the App Store since it came already installed on your computer.
Not true. You can go to the Mac App Store and download the installer
(from the link that WALTER-MILANO-ITALY posted above)
Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion
If you completed your installation of OS X, your installer may have been removed after your successful first login to OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion.  Mac App Store's Purchases page should show Install OS X as being "Installed", and disallow its download, when viewed from a computer running OS X.
To redownload the installer on a computer running OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion, press and hold the Option key while you click the Purchases tab. If the button to the right of the Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion item doesn't change to "Install" and allow you to download OS X, use Spotlight to search for "Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion" on your computer.

  • How do I resinstall mountain lion without an install disk?

I have an older macbook that doesn't support Lion or Mountain Lion. The person who owned it previously said they "deleted" the system preferences application. I didn't believe them, but sure enough, nothing will allow you into system preferences. I want to reinstall the operating system and clean it out, but I don't have any install disks, not even an old OS X disk.
Any suggestions? Is there a way to make a bootable OS X 10.6 disc? Is there a legitimate ISO available? I've seen a bunch on torrents that look like they're bloated.
    Thanks

Call apple care at 1 800 692 7753 - give them the computers serial number.  You can purchase replacement discs for that computer.  They charge $16 for each disc.  You need two of them.
