OS thinks my downloads folder is an application and asks me to select one
I can't open my downloads folder as the OS thinks it's an application and directs me to find one to open it.
weird ... try this: go into finder preferences and select "show all file extensions". see if your download filer has a .app extension and if so, remove it so it just says "Downloads". maybe that helps

When I go to my downloads folder on my dock and click the file all the content shows up but as soon as I go to open it in the finder, I get a blank window. Download folder doesn't open and instead makes Terminal open up
MacOSX 10.9.5 on MacBook Air of 2014. Open downloadfolder in Finder does not work. Trying so opens the terminal window saying only the name of the folder and -bash- . In Finder list view moreover the download folder lost its little triangle at the beginning of the name.
This behaviour started when I tried an old mediathek to open in iPhoto 9.5.1. It said I must download an actualization file, install it and then ... I did so, but when now opening iPhoto with any photo(s) it says it needs actualization and when I click on "Actualizar" (all Spanish), iPhoto crashes each time. The downloadfolder problem started the same moment.
On my second MacBookAir, same MacOSX, same purchase date, it did the following, when trying to open that same mediathek with the same version of iPhoto: Image folder (instead of download folder ...) does not open and starts Terminal as described above. MOREOVER all icons on the screen are "fixed" (not sorted!) and can't be moved to a different place on screen with the trackpad or mouse (can be moved though to other folders and trash bin). They follow, but when releasing they jump back to their original position. And iPhoto on this second one behaves equally, asking for "actualizar" and then crashes, when I confirm it.
Weird, isn't it? Thanks for any good advice ...i just went into preferences, deleted what was in the home page, and entered a new home page address which solved the problem,

My songs from iTunes won't download. I recently just purchased 7 songs and they took my money but now the songs won't download to my phone. I have gone to the download screen on the iTunes app and under each song it says "download error. Tap to retry". When I tap to retry a song a message pops up saying "this song could not be downloaded at this time." And it gives me two options. Either done or retry. I have tried to download them many times. I signed out and signed back in on iTunes, restarted my phone, and even checked for any updates. Nothing seems to be working. They charged the money from my card but now my songs won't download. What do I do?

I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too. I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.

If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network. I'm trying to reinstal CS2 on my newly replaced boot drive from a download. Disk 1 installs and then request me to insert Disk2. How do I direct it to the disk2 download?

firefox disabled my version of java, i went to the free download site to get the newest version, clicked on download then doubled click on it in the download list, this should have started the intallation but instead i got a message saying i needed an application to open the link and wanted me to choose an app. Install box did not come up as it has with other downloads. I have downloaded GLT0 table fields data to PC file . But i need to download KTOPL(Chart Of Accounts) data also. in GLT0 table there is no KTOPL field.
But in SKA1 table have KTOPL field. Then what is the issue is GLT0 data & KTOPL field data needs to download into one Internal Table.

I've seen a coupld of suggested solutions that invovle deleting files, and reconfiguring settings, but these all seem to be aimed at PC users; I'm on a Mac, and the instructions given don't work.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

I think there’s no “file explorer application and reader folder xperia”!
There’s only an app named “File transfer”…
or you can use “file explorers” of other apps (like OfficeSuite, if available, to navigate on folders…)
The only real solution, is to download an app from Play Store.
I use “File Manager”(Explorer) or “File Manager HD”(Tablet) (Rhythm Software) free.

Downloads disappeared from dock, finder, and applications
macbook pro, osx ver 10.9.5
the downloads icon disappeared from dock, from applications, and gone in finder. one day it was there, the next it was gone.
i made a new folder and put it in dock and added it to finder, but my downloads are not going into the file even though that's where i direct it to go.
where did the original go and how can i get it back.?

How do you delete more than one item from download folder at a time?
I have been trying to clean out my downloads folder which has gotten too full. Mostly audiobooks which are now in iTunes and photographs that I have received from family and friends. I can drag them one at a time into the trash, but was hoping there is a faster way. If not, I will do this slowly. My understanding is that if the file is saved somewhere else, deleting it from the downloads folder doesn't delete it from my mac, right?

That is probably a correct assumption. However it's always a good idea to double check before trashing something. Let's use the App (that's what programs are called on Macs) for cross stitch patterns. Check the Applications folder and if you see the app there it's fine to trash it from your downloads folder. Even if you goof once it's in the trash you can get it out of the trash assuming you haven't emptied the trash. Open the trash folder, right click the item and select Put Back. If you are not using Snow Leopard (10.6.x) then you can drag the item back to where it was originally. -
Could someone clarify some questions I have about the download folder?
I use my computer mainly for audio recording. I'm constantly downloading updates to virtual instruments, updates for programs, new applications, etc. Once I download something and install it, can I delete the file from the download folder? If it's an application, do I need to drag it from the download folder into applications?
Also, there are lots of .dmg files. I've always wondered about these. Once I have opened it and installed the program, is there any need to save them? Or can I trash them? As you can see from the screen shot, some of those files are really big and I'd like to get rid of them.If you no longer need a downloaded file you can delete it.
Downloaded applications need to be installed in the Applications folder. You do not drag anything from the Downloads folder to the Applications folder unless you are draggin an Application from an archive or disc image.
