OS X V10.6.8 not compatible with iPhoto V 9.5.1

This must have cropped up before with someone and I'm a relative novice with Apple.
I have no photo management software so I just tried to buy iPhoto via the Apps. Store and my (latest!!) installed version OS X isn't late enough for the current iPhoto app. - so what do I do as the on-line 'Help' is non-existant? Not done much of this apps. stuff before so where to next or do I just not bother.

The iPhoto 9.5.1 in the App Store requries Mavericks.  Check below to see if your Mac will support Mavericks.  If it does Mavericks is a free upgrade but you'll have to purchse iPhoto:
OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
Learn about the system requirements for OS X Mavericks.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
The previous is from OS X Mavericks: System Requirements.
If you can't run Mavericks on your Mac you'll have to purchse a copy of the iLife 11 disc from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com and install iPhoto from it.  Then you can update it to the latest version that will run on your system with updaters from this Apple site: Apple - Support - Downloads

  • LG VX8300 not compatible with iphoto???

I have not tried importing photos from my LG VX8300 to iphoto before, and iphoto does not seem to recognize the camera portion of the phone. Is this phone not compatible with iphoto (iLife 08)
    Thanks
I am using a USB cable to transfer info... not bluetooth and I'm not buying an SD card
    Thanks

    Peter:
Do you have a memory card in the phone that you can transfer the photos to? If so, you can get an inexpensive card reader and use it. That's how I get photos from my LG onto my HD.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • USB monitor not compatible with iPhoto or Maps?

My AOC USB display will not show photos in iPhoto (other than thumbnails), nor will it show maps in the Maps app.  The manufacturer tells me this is something Apple needs to remedy.  Does anyone know of a third party solution?  I've heard there is some kind of hardware USB graphics adapter but I don't know if that will solve this problem.

  • IPhoto not compatible with library.

I have a two year old IMac. Everything fine till last week. Power outage caused some form of corruption in my IPhoto library.
Now, when I try to open it, I receive pop up saying: "IPhoto is unable to open this library. The library is not compatible with IPhoto."
Went on line to find answers. Most suggest building new library but I can't even do that as I cannot even access the Preferences aspect of IPhoto. Header is there but all options are in grey meaning I can't click on any options of IPhoto to begin creating new library.
    Photos are still there.
Checked Masters folder and all photos exist but no library as such.
Any help would be greatly welcome.
    Tom

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Are .dng files compatible with iPhoto?

I recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix dmg G2 camera. I have iPhoto '09 on my iMac, running OS 10.6.8. I was unable to load the RAW images from this camera to iPhoto, so I converted them to .dng files. I even downloaded the latest version of the dng Converter, but I am still unable to download them to iPhoto. I get the following error message:
    "Unreadable Files: 1
The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)"
I am pretty sure I was able to download .dng files in the past. Has something changed, or are .dng files just not compatible with iPhoto?
    JB

Not all dng-files are alike. I have used dng with iPhoto before, without problems. I could not find any documentation for dng in iPhoto, but for Aperture it is documented that dng works for  "DNG files generated by the Adobe DNG Converter with the 'Convert to Linear Image' option turned off". Probably the same will hold for iPhoto.
In Snowleopard the following cameras are supported:

10.5 will be harder to find & more expensive, I think I'd go for 10.6

  • Do not compatible with old verzion. OSX 5,6,7 ?

apple as I do in the future. I have it every three years to buy all new equipment? imac iphone ipad ibook = € 5,000. just because the numbers is not backward compatible

Numbers 3 is not compatible with OS X v10.8 or earlier. The iOS version requires iOS 7.
IF you NEED to use Numbers 3 on both platforms, you will need to install OS X, v10.9 on the Macs and iOS v7 on the iOS devices.
Your iBook will need to be replaced, or restricted to tasks not requiring Numbers 3, as OS X v10.8 and later requires Macs using intel processors (iBooks have Motorola/IBM G4 or G3 processors).
If your iMac is an intel based model, there will be a cost to move from OS X v10.7 or earlier, but no cost to move from OS X v10.8 to v10.9. The computer itself will probably not require being replaced at this time. If it is a PPC/G4 or G5 model, it is in the same category as the iBook.
iOS platform answers may be similar.
But you may decide you do not NEED to change from Numbers 2 (Numbers '09) to Numbers 3 or from the first version of Numbers for iOS to the current version. "Just because the numbers is not backwards compatible" could be a strong factor in your decision regarding the NEED to adopt it. It could well be the strongest consideration.
Before you make the decision, consider your needs, AND read the conversations in this and other forums, starting with these two threads:

What has been gained in Numbers 3.0 upgrade

  • IPod 4,1 will not update to iOS 7. I updated my iMac to 10.9.1 (maverick). Latest Numbers version on iMac is not compatible with Numbers on iPod. Ideas? Can I go back a version with Numbers?

iPod 4,1 will not update to iOS 7. I updated my iMac to 10.9.1 (maverick). Latest Numbers version on iMac is not compatible with Numbers on iPod. Ideas? Can I go back a version with Numbers? I downloaded old version of Numbers 2.0.1 from DVD but with both versions the 2.0.1 will not open.  So both versions are present but only the new version functions. I tried to drag the new version to the trash but the old version still runs error message and will not open. I did not try to restart with the new version in the trash.

    Maybe. See:

  • I need to silently upgrade from 3.5 to 7 but get an error message after 7 install. Platform version 7.0 is not compatible with minVersion = 1.9.1

I'm trying to silently upgrade my environment to FF 7. I've gotten the silent install working great, it puts in my Proxy Server info, reassigns the home page and all that. But, the last version we pushed out was FF 3.5. If a user had that on their PC and they run the FF7 install, they get weird messages when clicking on the icon.
XULRunner: Error: Platform version '7.0' is not compatible with minVersion >= 1.9.1 maxVersion <=1.9.1
    Another message they get is:
    AutoConfigAlert:

    This is on Windows XP

Do you have other virtualization or security software that might protect .ini and possibly other files in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) and prevent Firefox from updating them properly?
You need to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
