OS10.5.1 - EyeTV2.5.1 won't power on Mac to record

I was running OS10.3.9 with EyeTV 1.8.5 with the 410 hardware.
I would program a recording overnight, and power off the mac.
The EyeTv software would power on the Mac and the recording would be done.
I'd have the mac setup to power down after the recording had finished.
All worked well. Never any problems.
I upgraded to OS 10.5; (now OS10.5.1); and upgraded to EyeTV 2.5.1. EyeTV 2.5.1 works well, and I can program a recording which will happen provided the Mac is already powered on.
My problem is that EyeTv 2.5.1 won't always power up the mac, if it is powered off, to preform a recording overnight. For some odd reason, it has worked on some occassions but not on others. (This was also true of OS 10.
*Is anyone else experiencing this?*
I contacted Elgato support, who advised the following:
- Repair Premissions: I've now done this several times.
- Refresh EyeTV Helper: I've done this several times.
- Erase old EyeTV Preferences: I've done this several times.
- I've also done the above in various combinations.
- Reset your PRAM: I've done this once.
- And I checked all the firewire connections which are fine.
And of course everytime I delete the preferences I have to set EyeTV up again which is annoying.
As is constantly doing the above, sometimes with success, mostly without.
I contacted Elgato again and asked if they could advise on anyway I could track down what was happening. They replied as follows:
"EyeTV 2.5.1 has been thoroughly tested with Mac OS 10.5. I don;t know if testing has been completed with Mac OS 10.5.1.
EyeTV writes to the Power Manager when a schedule is created. The Power Manager is a file that tells the Mac OS when to turn on for certain tasks. Unfortunately there is no way to read what is in the Power Manager."
I'm out of ideas. *Can anyone suggest what I could try to resolve this problem?*
Thanks all.

Why not just put system to sleep if you have a scheduled recording?
A fair question. The last time I put OS10.5.1 to sleep I couldn't get it to wake up. No response at all. I had to power down, then power on again. And to be honest, EyeTV should power on the system to do a recording, it's in their manual. We shouldn't have to be coming up with work arounds.
I never turn off my system...it goes to sleep when I do, or when I'm out of the house.
My usage is different. I power down overnight and when I'm out.

  • Won't playback on Mac that recorded it

Imation DVD's play on home DVD player but not on the Mac that recorded them!
Must open them in Final Cut Express HD to check them on my machine.
Perhaps settings are incorrect now after attempts to eliminate the cheesy intro from my projects.

    Hi Douglas
Yes I also observed this - my DVD plays OK on stand alone DVD-player but
    not on my Mac.
BUT what's it about to check it in FCE. How do You do that ?
Can You do that with any DVD burned or commercial ???
You have to rip it back to streaming DV to be able to import into FCE
(as I know it any how).
Does Your DVD show up on Your desktop when inserted ?
if it don't - we have the same problem: Solution - I changed to another
    DVD disk brand.
Else I don't know the name of a ripping program. Sorry

I installed 6.0.2 on OS10.7.5 and now Safari won't open.  6.0.2 is just for Mountain Lion.  How do I revert to 6.0.1?

I do have a cloned back-up, so I tried to just copy Safari 6.0.1 back onto my main drive—wouldn't work.  Got a message that the System needs Safari and I can't touch it.
I'm trying to find a simpler way to revert than clone backwards, which takes a lot of time.  And actually I never use Safari.  I'm a Chrome user.
You are correct that I downloaded 6.0.2, rather than using software update.  However, with many other pieces of software, if you try to install over the wrong system, you get a message telling you that the installation can't be done.  Apple could have saved a lot of trouble by using this message.
I have three machines of different vintage, so one is on 10.6.8, one on 10.7.5 and one on 10.8.2.  I am usually pretty careful about software updates and which system is needed.  Unfortunately, in this case I used CNET download, and the description of 6.0.2 said it was for Lion and Mountain Lion.

        Oh no Mr.Ected!
I can see if we can get your phone back on! I understand how important it is to have a phone. Have you tried this to see if we can get it back on? http://vz.to/1DZhteH . If it is still goes to a red Verizon screen and then to black we might need to do a master reset. While the phone is off try this:http://vz.to/1DZhXkU Be mindful this is the last resort because it will erase everything on the phone. If you have done back up assistant in the past you will be able to get you contacts back. Please let me know if you need any more help.

  • Imovie won't open on mac

    imovie won't open on mac
what do I do ....  I have clicked force quit as it is unresponsive?
I have shut down computer. Unplugged power for 30 seconds and opened back up still the same problem. Help please!!!

So you don't have the iLife 09 disk either? (Can't remember if that was a separate disk or not).
Hmmm, it'd be better if you had the iLife disk.....
So, first you need to buy Snow Leopard (call Apple, it's the best price there); once you install it, update it to 10.6.8. That will give you the Mac App Store - you need that to buy Mountain Lion (download only, no disks). You will also want to up your RAM memory toa s much as you can - Mountain Lion is somewhat of a memory hog.
If you don't have your iLife disks, then a bootable clone on an external drive is an absolute must have just in case. You should do the first one before you install Snow Leopard just in case. Then, once you're up to 10.6.8 and all your applications are updated 9ncluding iLife, make a new bootable clone before you download/install Mountain Lion. Keep that clone safe just in case you need to revert or something goes wrong (especially if you don't have disks).
Once Mountain Lion is downloaded, first dismiss the installer and find it in your Applications folder. Make a copy of it and put it in a safe place (so you don't need to download it again). Then begin installing; when finished, run Software Update. Hopefully, your iMovie will be updated to the latest version. At that point, I'd make another clone and keep that one updated.
Having said all that, I'm not sure about iMovie not responding now - since you don't have disks, you can't reinstall it, so I don't know if upgrading will work. Normally one should take care of any problems before upgrading, but unless you want to buy a retail iLife 09 or 11 (which is still available online here and there), there isn't much you can do about installing.

  • Please Help! My iPhone 4 won't power on!

iPhone 4, out of warranty coverage, won't power on.
        1.    It has about 60% battery before it dead, but suddenly it became black screen and not responsive (like powered off).
        2.    Whatever I did, like "holding the power button and home button together for 10-25 sec and then pressing the power button again" etc. it just won't power on, no Apple logo!
        3.    But I can seen the "emergancy call" screen when I plugged it with my laptop and it just told me "No Service" at the upper left corner (status bar of iPhone 4).
        4.    iTunes can see it, but only when it was in Recovery mode or DFU mode.
        5.    I also tried to restore it to factory settings in iTunes, but it always gives me an error with various error codes, like 2001, 2006, etc. I also tried restore it under Windows or Mac, but was out of luck too!
        6.    Finally I bought a iPhone 4 battery replacement and replaced the old one with the new one, but nothing changed as if it wasn't replaced its original battery.
        7.    It keeps rebooting at every 10 min or so when It was plugged into my laptop without any operations (pressing any buttons).
        8.    It can be "powered on" only when it was plugged into a computer. It will IMMEDIATELY be in "dead mode" as long as I disconnect it from the computer (like taking out a battery from an iPhone that is powered on)!
        9.    Everything worked fine before it dead, I don't know what happened to it! I am so frustrated!
Please help! Thank you so much!

    USB Problem, possibly bad Cable.
I misread your original post "It keeps rebooting at every 10 min or so when It was plugged into my laptop".
I thought you had a boot loop problem, but you say "rebooting when plugged into laptop" this is not the typical boot loop problem, because you had the iPhone connected to laptop.
Connected by what, obvioulsy a USB Cable, Error 2006, is most often due to faulty USB Cable.
Clean that Dock Port Very Well especially with Isopropyll Alcohol, get a good USB Cable, try a different USB port on computer, or try a different computer.

Sorry about the long title.....its my first post.
My kid just got a brand new iPod 5th generation (today from Santa) and it won't power up or charge. The only response is when I connect the USB and press the power button or front button the Battery appears with red line on left and lightning symbol below. There is no other response at all no matter what I do, including holding both buttons down for extended period.  My other kid got one and it works perfectly.....I have interchanged usb cables ports etc. but still no response....I would really appreciate any help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem with the iPod. This is because as you said the same cable works with another iPod.

  • Zen Vision:M 30GB won't power down; any ide

I've had a 30GB Zen Vision M for a couple of months now! Awesome player, went through the usual round of recognition problems, but it's been working fine of late. My problem is, it won't power down now. When I try to power down, the unit says it's powering down, the dispaly goes black except for the battery icon. And it stops there. The blue backlight on the menu buttons stays on, the battery icon stays on, and eventually it turns off after 5 minutes because of being idle. Not a terrible problem I know, but a real niusance. I am running the most current firmware (have been for a while). I've tried resetting and clean-up. No change. I'm afraid of trying to reinstall the firmware, in case I have the same problem that many others are having, and go from a good player with a power issue, to a player that does nothing. I can't see it being the power switch itself, since it powers up fine, and tries to power down. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. birder

  • Can I recover data if my phone won't power up?

So my iphone 6 accidentally went through the wash on Monday night. I immeadately tried to dry it out in a pyrex dish of rice with a heating pad covering the dish. It was in rice for 36 hours and still won't power back up. I knew it was a long shot, but it previously worked for a iphone 3s and 4g. Any suggestions on possibly recovering this hardware or how to recover the data (no icloud storage) w/o the abilty to power the device on?

Not really - that data is gone unless the phone somehow wakes up
The conventional wisdom for the rice is 5-7 days though

  • IBook G3 800mhz powers & starts up, after a shutdown it won't power up

One day my iBook G3 800mhz was working fine. I shut it down and later went to turn it on and it wouldn't do anything... no startup chime, no fans, no lights, nothing. I tried resetting PRAM, PMU, and many other things which didn't work at all.
I had a local computer store check it out and they told me the Motherboard was fried. I pretty much wrote the iBook off as DEAD. I took the battery out and it sat that way for about a month.
Today, I put the battery back in and hit the power button, and IT POWERED UP & BOOTED! I couldn't believe it. I shut it down and hit the power button again... nothing, it was "dead" again. I took the battery out and let it sit that way for about 2 hours, put the battery back in, pushed the power button and it BOOTED JUST FINE. So, I shut it down, pushed the power button and it was "dead." I took the battery out again, let it sit for an hour. This time instead of installing the battery I just connected the power adapter, pressed the power button and it BOOTED. To determine if it was the battery, I left the power adapter plugged in, shut down the iBook and pressed the power button... NOTHING, "dead" again. So, it's not the battery, it's not the power cord.
When I do get it booted, I am able to do a succesful Restart by selecting it in the Finder. Also, whenever it does power up, I am able to reset the PRAM and it will start up. Whenever I do a Shutdown (either from the Finder or by pressing the power button) it won't power up unless I disconnect the battery and power adapter and let it sit for about an hour.
I've been through all the forums and many websites and have yet to find a fix for this problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hey Shim..,
Certified Apple Technician and he agreed that it is probably the transistor (what he called it) that is failing, since it's not holding Date & Time
OK but a transistor is a long way from a microprocessor. Uhh where did he get his...oh never mind.
I have read in some forums about the leaking super cap,
I'd be interested in those leads
but I haven't been able to find any photos or anything that shows where on the board this is located.
    Just put one up here, it's from a 12" G4 1.2 GHz:
    http://www.photolava.com/view/d5pr.html
They're pretty distinctive, so hard to miss.
Here's the blowed up one from the 500MHz 12" G3
    http://www.photolava.com/view/d5pu.html
    Now that's blowed up
Is this cap replaceable? Anyone know of any step-by-step guide that would show how to go about this, or know of any company that might do this sort of thing? If it's not too terribly expensive, I'd be willing to give it a try.
Well let's determine if it's bad first. Usually when these things fail it's pretty obvious.
I'd try blowing out all the chips we talked about first since I believe a tiny bit of smutz will cause a CMOS micro to crash.
It reminds me of when these early PMUs will crash and drag the battery down with it in a matter of days vs years.
One of the resets in those was to remove all power and let it sit just like you're doing here. This was called resetting the logic board and was SOP for a no startup situation.

  • I dropped my iphone 4s and now it won't power up, I dropped my iphone 4s and now it won't power up

I just dropped my phone onto asphalt from the car, about a 2.5 foot drop. The phone was wearing a case and no damage was done to the phone. the phone was off when I picked it up and will not power up. Any suggestions for how to fix this myself?

Apparently some damage to the iPhone did occur. Using a case doesn't guarantee zero damage when dropped depending on the case.
If the iPhone won't power on the normal way and the same with a reset, make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • I have a macbook and when I power it on and then select myself as a user...It won't power up. It stays in the white screen with the apple logo. I am online currently under 'guest user'. Is there anything I can do from the keyboard to fix this??? Help!!!

I have a macbook and when I power it on and then select myself as a user...It won't power up. It stays in the white screen with the apple logo. I am online currently under 'guest user'. Is there anything I can do from the keyboard to fix this??? Help!!!

Could you specify the model of MacBook and the OS X it's running, please? Some of the advice or references vary along with the system, so this could be helpful to formulate a reply. I've never used a Guest User selection, but do have more than one User.
If the computer does not have an optical drive, you may be able to boot it into a recovery disk mode or something; in an attempt to see what is wrong and maybe fix it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Computer Won't Power Up

After a BIOS update that went wrong, I received my mobo a few days ago from MSI. I re-assembled my computer 4 days ago, but started having random crashes. Today I decided to test the memory. When running memtest86 the pc just powered off unexpectedly. I switched it back on again, but after a few minutes it shut off again. This time for good.
I disconnected the power cable and plugged it back in. 4 red lights on the D-bracket flashed, the PSU, CPU, Northbridge and case fans moved slightly and then all went dead. I didn't hear any beeps or other sounds. This response lasted less than a second. Same thing happens if I turn off and on the PSU's power switch. The case power switch generates no response at all.
Here is what I've tried already:
    - Cleared the CMOS - No changes
    - Striped everything, leaving only the CPU,  and then re-assembled one component at a time and powered on and off the PSU after re-assembling each component - No changes
    - Unplugged the case's power switch cable and direct contacted the 2 pins with a screw driver (to check if the problem was with the case's power switch) - No changes
    Any thoughts?

Exactly Bass, I hope that it wasn't a Windows flash...
That's exactly what it was. However, I got the pc running for 4 days after MSI solved the BIOS problem. After the power up problem I took the pc to the my local tech service and they said it won't power up because the board is dead. Everything else works OK when instaled on another board.
Blazer, I took the battery out and inserted it again but that didn't fix anything. I have no multimeter, so I couldn't test the battery. How long do these batteries last? My pc is 1 1/2 years old (running 24h a day, 7 days a week).
