OSX Mountain Lion "Disk not ejected properly" USB-Finder not responding

Hello,
I just upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion late 2008 macbook pro. Whenever i plug in a USB, it detects it fine. But then when i copy anything to it, it starts but then give the error message "Disk was not ejected properly". After that, my finder hangs and i have to force quit it. And then it doesnt launch unless I do a restart of my computer by pressing and holding the power key because normal restart doesnt work. Happen to anyone? any solution? Thanks!

Connect the USB device then right or control click the USB device icon on the Desktop, then click Eject.
Then re connect the device and try copying files.

Have a look in your Utilities folder - X11 should be there. Launch it and you'll be offered the option to install.

  • OSX Mountain Lion Up-to-date claim validation mail not yet received

I live in India. I bought an iMac from a Apple Reseller on 23rd June 2012 which qualifies me for the free upgrade to OSX Mountain Lion. I filled out the form, entered all the details correctly (though in the last step Apple didn't give an option to select country as India, but I filled the form anyways) and was given a Claim Reference Number.
It's 2nd day today and I haven't received any email regarding the redemption code. What's going on?

Oh well well.. just 30 minutes after I posted the above question, I got the validation email. Now let's see if the code actually works.

  • I tried to download the latest OSX Mountain Lion and got this notice - "We could not complete your purchase.  The product distribution file could not be verified.  It may be damaged or was not signed. "  What does this mean and why can't I download it?

I tried to download the latest OSX for my iMac - Mountain Lion.
This is the message that I received:
"We could not complete your purchase.  The product distribution file could not be verified.  It may be damaged or was not signed."
    What does this mean?

The only thing that worked for me was to boot in safe mode.
Power down.  Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.
Reminder: create full backup before you upgrade OS
    Hope it helps.

  • I have 2012 Macbook Air with OSX mountain lion installed, but I can't find the installer

When i check on the Mac App Store, i still have to pay?
I mean it doesn't make any sense, I buy this macbook pro along with the os, and I still have to pay the OS again?
I wish they keep the CD installer just like couple years ago.

  • OSX Mountain Lion on Mac Book Pro 13"

So, I've read through some forums and they say that upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion onto a Mac Book Pro would drain the battery of it.
I wanted to ungrade my new mid 2012 Mac Book Pro (13 inch, 2.9GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7), but I'm afraid it will damage my notebook. Like I dk, the notebook would get too hot or something. So, I was wondering whether upgrading the Mac Book to OSX Mountain Lion would be a good idea or not?
    Thanks.

    Nonsense.

  • Once i open the iCloud or address book I lose my administrative privileges, Mac OSX Mountain Lion

    Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2
The problem did not exist before this upgrade.
If I open iCloud, or AddressBook, or if assistantd asks for Keychain Access password, I lose all my user's administrative privileges, I can't copy and paste files anymore and everything that comes with that.
The error I am getting is:
The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
If I go GetInfo on the file, I can no longer access the lock-unlock feature in bottom right.
My user was migrated from another Mac with OSX Lion, but I've had NO ISSUES until after the latest updates to 10.8.2.
This is really annoying and I do believe it's only because of the update, so any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Mountain Lion Upgrade, now I am getting a "disk not ejected properly" error

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and I am getting a "disk not ejected properly" error on my external time machine backup drive.  Can I fix this myself?

Maybe the Seagate needs some firmware or other update to be compatible. Tried Google or Seagate for any info?
Sometimes with TM you almost need to start fresh... keep what you have as is as backup archive.
And don't use just one backup set or method. Redundant, one off line, and clone your volumes in addition to what TM offers.
If you can only use it via USB what about FW or eSATA?

Did you buy your machine second-hand? That's really the only way you would have to purchase OS X 10.8.x from the App Store... but, yes, if you have a USB thumb drive with a bootable installer (such as made with Lion DiskMaker) you can boot from that and reinstall OS X.

  • Ever since upgrading to Lion I keep getting the error message "disk was not ejected properly."

Ever since upgrading to Lion on my iMac G5 Intel Core 2 Duo, I keep getting the error message "disk was not ejected properly."  I have repaired permissions and reformatted my external LaCie 2TB USB hard disk, but the error continues.  I use this disk for my Time Machine backups.  This always seems to happen when the computer wakes from sleep, but not consistently.  The computer was asleep overnight and backed up as soon as it awakend this morning.  Two hours later I get the improper ejection message.  I have used the same external disk with Snow Leopard (all versions), but never had this error message or problem.  This disk has been in use without any problems since February, 2011. Upgrading to Lion is when this problem began. This is the below message (but from online image from Snow Leopard, but Lion message is essentially the same).

I had a similar issue. Mine was with a Seagate GoFlex drive. The solution was to install GoFlex for Mac 1.1.2 which included a 64-bit driver to disable the drives built in sleep timer:

  • My iMac is disconnecting all my media hard drives and giving "Disk Not Ejected Properly" message since updating to OSX 10.9

Ever since I updated to OSX version 10.9 on my iMac, it is disconnecting all of my media hard drives and giving me the message: "Disk Not Ejected Properly." My hard drives are connected to my iMac through a Nitro Professional 8-port Firewire 800 hub/repeater, and a Firewire 800 cable from the Nitro hub connects to the back of my iMac. This configuration has been working fine for over a year. Suddenly, and immediately after performing the update about a week ago, the drives won't stay connected for more than a few seconds before the iMac disconnects from my drives. I've tried restarting and reconnecting many times and the same thing keeps happening.
I have a new MacBook Pro (one month old) that I've been using temporarily to work with my photos and video on these drives as the drives are able to stay connected to this computer—I put a Thunderbolt adapter onto the Firewire 800 cable to connect to it. Luckily I had not yet updated it to the new operating system and I am afraid to do that. I've had the persistent message that Updates are available for my computer on my MacBook but I will not perform any updates for fear that I will lose access to my media drives. I am a professional photographer, so it's pretty disasterous if I can't access my drives. Please advise me what to do to keep my hard discs connected to my iMac and what to do to keep this from happening with my MacBook.
Thanks in advance for your knowledge and assistance!

  • USB connection for Android phone "disk was not ejected Properly"

My Macbook Pro OS 10.6 has begun to display "disk was not ejected properly" when I connect my Motorola Photon android phone with USB cable to sync (drop and drag).  Now I might be able to connect.  Or lately I have the phone icon flash on the laptop screen like it is connecting only to get the error message "the disk was not ejected properly".  Sometimes I am in the middle of drop and drag and it happens.  Can anyone help?

I would make sure to keep the phone from sleeping and keep it awake for one.
It may be that the iTunes services get in the way too.
I use Samsung Note (tablet and phone) but Windows 8 (better support than 7) on Mac Pro. Which is what this forum is, not notebook but that doesn't seem to matter (half a dozen or more a day think it is)

Also mine work better on USB3, though you may not have that if you are running 10.6, in fact you may not have the latest iTunes either (10.7.1 I think currently) which may also want to look at - may require Lioin 10.7.5.
