Outgoing mail appearing in Today smart folder

This isn't a major issue - however - I use smart folders in Mail and whenever I send out an email (reply or otherwise) that email temporarily shows up in the Today smart mailbox as it's being sent before being placed in the Sent folder.
Any thougths on how to stop that? It didn't do that before but has been doing so for a while. Just a minor annoyance.

I'm having the same problem, but that checkmark is unchecked for both accounts I have.
It's a problem that's only recently started happening. Last week I moved to a new computer, and when I moved all my Mail files and preference over, this started happening. I tried deleting the Mail prefs, but the problem still happens. Any ideas?

Today smart folder showing old email attachments

Hi,
The "today" smart folder is very useful. But IMAP mail periodically decides to revisit every message it has ever seen, which apparently gives them all "today" tags according to the finder. So, just now my "today" folder contains 1,482 items (most of which I really have NOT worked on today!). These are all located in Library/Mail/IMAP...etc.
Is there a way to set a smart folder to exclude the Library directory? I know I can reserve it to search a single folder, but if I set it for the document folder, then it won't search the picture or applications folders. This folder must already exclude mail messages, since they don't appear; but attachments can be any kind of thing.
(Alternately, if there is some way to get IMAP to stop doing that.... It does not happen every day, but often enough to be annoying.)

they are litterly old emails that i deleted months or even years ago... from different senders... but they are reappearing under a new sender/message.... thats really the only way i can describe it.. for example, this is just an example...
say 4 months ago i got an email from newegg and deleted it.... yesterday i got an email from my boss and when i opened it, it was the email i deleted 4 months ago from newegg... but when i go to my webmail it is the actual email from my boss...
another real example... i deleted an email from my preacher about 3 months ago and i receieved and email from my dad last week.. when i opened it, it was the old email from my preacher...
I hope that is a little clearer... these are all emails from mobile me.. i have all my mail FWDED to mobile me

Why does a "Today" smart folder appear in Mail and How do I Keep it from Reappearing Every Day?

I use two Macs daily, each running 10.9.2. On my home machine, every day at 12 AM, a smart folder called "Today" appears in Mail. I delete it, and the following midnight, another instance appears; lather, rinse repeat. I can see no control that will prevent its zombielike reappearance. I never asked for it or sought it out, it just keeps reappearing. On my work machine, which is left on 24 x 7 (as my home machine is five days a week), nothing of the sort occurs.
Why, Apple, why? Why, Apple community, why? I can find no documentation And why is the behavior different on two machines, both updated to 10.9.2 from previous versions, on none of which did this brain-eating behavior occur?
For what it's worth, I have an Exchange IMAP account and two (2) POP accounts on each machine.

I recently moved most of my accounts to another mail client, deleted all my mail related stuff from Library including the entire V2 folder, restarted fresh then just have icloud account in there. I have the smart box. Maybe it is an icloud smartbox? Do you have icloud in Mail?

Mail not updating the smart folder list after "archive" correctly

I am using OSX Mail on Yosemite (10.0.2) and have - since about two months ago - weird behavior of smart mailboxes. Previously, when I Archived (ctrl-cmd-A) messages selected in Smart mailbox, the GUI immediately removed the messages from the list and they just disappeared (moved to Archive). The messages in the Archive are not displayed in this smart mailbox.
Since about 2 months ago, the messages started to only get greyed out in the list, but do not disappear and stay there until I change the mailbox or optionally, Mail checks the servers and the GUI is then synced with server. When I change the mailbox and come back to this smart mailbox, the messages are not there and they were moved to Archive, so it more or less works. But I would like back old behavior when the messages get re-moved immediately.
Anyone has any idea why is this not working as before and how to get this fixed? Thanks a lot...

It didn't do anything for the VIP though, I selected the VIP group and rebuilt that, but it didn't seem to make a difference?

Mail appearing in Draft's folder

Occasionally when I send an email a copy gets automatically get put into my Drafts folder for no reason. I believe the mail gets sent but the copy stays in the drafts until I delete it. Is the best route to take delete the prefs? If I was to do that would that result in my "rules" being deleted with the prefs?

"Today" smart Mail folder filters for wrong date

The Today smart folder in Mail is set to show today's messages, but is showing messages dated August 8 instead.
I only got my MacBook Air yesterday and it's my first Mac, but I'm computer-literate so I checked the date setting and it's correct. I've set the main language to Catalan but I can't see how that might affect the way the Mac reads the date - and anyway, today's date in my preferred version - dd/mm/yy - would be read as August 9th under the preferred US format, mm/dd/yy.
PS: Any hints on how to scroll quickly to the top or bottom of the list of emails?

It seems to have made a difference (took me a while to get back to it as I had some urgent work to take care of first).
But now, Today is finding every single draft version of every email I have drafted during the day - and Mail seems to save a draft every minute, for which I am grateful but not if they're all going to turn up in my Today folder!
Any suggestions?

Smart folder library

I am wondering if you can use a smart folder as the itunes library. I ask because I am trying to remove the need for 2 itunes library, because I have an external hard drive which i sometimes connect to directly, and sometimes connect through another computer. I created a smart folder for these different locations which should return the connected library. however this doesn't appear to be working. Any advise?

Interesting. It isn't on my Mac.
The thing is, if you add the user Library folder into the Spotlight Privacy list in System Preferences, it stops things like search working inside apps like Mail.
All I want to do is exclude the user Library folder from one Smart Folder in the Finder. Basically, I want to make a "Created Today" Smart Folder that doesn't show me files received or sent via Mail.

Spotlight comments search and smart folder fails

Spotlight search of the "Spotlight Comments" field fails after a file is saved in TextEdit or iWork programs.
I reproduced this failure, 100% of the time, in OS X 10.8 and 10.8.1 (with iCloud enabled or with it iCloud disabled) and can not reproduce this failure in Mac OS X 10.7.x
The steps to reproduce are simple and quick:
Create a new test file in TextEdit and Save it on the Mac (saved as, for example, test.rtf)
Quit TextEdit
In the Get Info panel for the test.rtf file and enter some unique text in the Spotlight Comments: field, for example XYZZY:
In Finder create a new Smart Folder (File > New Smart Folder)
Create a search criteria in the Spotlight comment field for the unique text from step 3 (XYZZY in this example) and hit Save and name the Smart FolderNote, the test.rtf file immediately appears in the smart folder
Open the test.rtf with TextEdit and change the text and Save the file.
Note, as soon as you hit Save in TextEdit the test.rtf file disapears from the SmartFolder. This is the error. Also note, the Spotlight Comment value (in this example, the text XYZZY) is unchanged, it still exists.
See attached screen shot after step 7 that shows the smart folder no longer shows the text.rtf file even though the search criteria is met.
I have reproduced this error with TextEdit and Pages and Numbers but not with other applications that are not iCloud enabled.

Can receive mail, can not send mail and can connect to outgoing mail server

I am able to receive email, but I am not able to send email. I have run the Connection doctor - My email connects and logs in to the verizon mail server. My outgoing mail goes into a send folder but doesn't go out. I connect to the Outgoing Mail Server. Any suggestions?

change your outgoing mail server (SMTP) port in mail preferences to port 587.....

Outgoing mail not sent BUT appears in "SENT" folder

G'day all!
Just tried to send some PDF's about 225k in size and also a copy past version of the same doc via Mail app. ALL attempts appear to get sent and they DO appear in the SENT folder but they do not get to the recipient. All other attempts to send stuff goes but not but NOT this particular item. I have sent them to myself at various addresses incl. iCloud and my normal ISP's in box for my account. All were sent via iCloud outgoing but none arrived – only the "test" emails (to make sure it wasn't me) arrived All pdf's were made on an iPad. Any clues? very strange indeed! cheers, Sam

No, no, no!!! Absolutely NO apologies nessecary!!! YOU are trying to help ME! <g> Let me start from the top.....I read an online article in a mag called the New Yorker. I wanted to send the article to several friends and NOT simply the link. I copy/pasted the article from "Reader" in Safari into Pages as a new doc. I "open in another app" from Pages as a PDF and tried to send it direct from Pages as described before AND "open in iBook" and tried to send it. It made the motions of going but the people did not get it. I tried to paste the body text into a normal email and agin no such luck. Every time it registers in the "sent" folder but does NOT arrive. I repeated all the above as me the recipiant and no luck. I tried other pdf's from both app (Pages & iBooks) to me – no probs. Everytime anything is sent it appears in the "sent" folder but only THIS document/bunch of words, no go???? Curious huh?

Finder smart folder: "Search for:Today" has changed

I noticed today that the smart folder has changed and now only seems to be showing applications and not files also.
I'm not sure what changed it initially, but to try to "fix" it, I went to the finder toolbar and selected "Action>Show Search Criteria". What should the default settings be for this folder as installed by Mac OSX Leopard?

The default criteria for Today and Yesterday, Apple's canned searches, are "Last Opened date is today" or "yesterday" plus "None of the following are true---Kind is Folders." If your are correct and aren't returning what you want, construct your own search that does what you want, then save it as a misnamed "Smart Folder"--be sure to check the box in the Save dialog to have it appear in the Sidebar.

Smart Folder or Search for Exchange Invites in Mail

Hi,
I'm using MAC Mail with the MS Exchange Server at work.
I was looking for a way to quickly search or create a smart folder to group all of these items in Mail.
Is this possible? Any ideas?

I had the same problem appear when I added a second exchange account into mac mail. I wanted my Sent email to pull from my primary email account. I deleted my primary account and re-added it. When it pulled all the messages in again, my Sent folder items came back.

Lion mail smart folder updating

I have performed a clean install of Lion and noticed the new Mail client is not auto-refreshing smart folders.
In Snow Leopard (and earlier) a smart folder created to show unread messages would update any time a new message arrives. In Lion the only way to get it to refresh is to click on another folder and click back.
Has anyone noticed this and/or found a solution?

Any solutions to this? I'm not using GrowlMail and my smart mailboxes where working wonderfully until a few days ago. Now I have to click into the smart mailbox in order for it to show me the un-read email bubble. It doesn't appear to be spotlight related as was proposed in some earlier discussions on this topic under Leopord (I'm using Lion).

Smart folder not showing all mails

I have a smart folder with these criteria:
1. Any Recipent contains "name"
2. Subject contains "film"
3. Contains attachments
All conditions must match.
And Include messages from sent is active.
The problem:
I discovered that a lot of mails that I had sent was missing.
When I opened the sent folder I could see the mails missing.
If I click on one of those mails it imediately shows up in the smart folder.
I tried to select all but that didnt help.
So I have to click manually on every mail that I send in the sent folder to get them in the smart folder. Not so smart?
I tried to delete the "Envelope Index" file and rebuild it. But it didnt help.
Any suggestions?

I have bad news for you. There appears to be a problem with the [Contains Attachments] condition in smart mailboxes. For smart mailbox purposes, Mail does’t realize a message contains attachments until you view its contents. I don’t think there is anything you can do about it other than reporting the problem here:

I have an iPad 2 and receive e-mail through internet connection. When I delete e-mails, and clear my Trash folder, they re-appear. Setting are for remove from server when moved from Inbox. Any idea what I can do to actually delete them?

Lately, when I delete e-mails, and clear my Trash folder, they re-appear, downloaded anew from the server and marked as unread. My e-mail Advanced Settings are selected for "Remove from server when moved from Inbox." Even when I access the e-mail accountfrom my desktop and delete the e-mails, the re-appear on my iPad. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and what I can do to actually delete them?

Sounds like you are looking in the wrong Administrative Group container which is why you are seeing your Exchange 2010 servers in there.
When you install Exchange 2003 only you will see a container named by default as "CN=First Administrative Group" container. But this could be named anything if you changed the Organization Name on the installation when you installed the first
Exchange 2003 server into the domain/forest.
You will notice that when you install Exchange 2010 part of the AD setup is to create a new configuration container and is named by default "CN=First Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)".
So it sounds like you are not looking in the right location within ADSIEdit.

I recommend though that you ensure your Exchange 2003 servers are fully uninstalled or no longer present in your environment before you go deleting the Servers container though.. The following Microsoft article will help with this:
