Outlook 2010 - Data File Properties/Folder Size verses Windows Explorer pst file size

I am running Outlook 2010 32bit Version 14.0.6129.5000 on a Windows PC running Windows 7 Professional.  All updates from MS are up to date.
I have several pst files I open with Outlook 2010. The size of the files displayed in Outlook are very different than what is displayed in Windows Explorer.
For example one of the pst file called "business.pst" when opened Outlook displays it under "Data File Properties -> Folder Size" that the Total Size (including subfolders) is 764,354 KB.  Windows Explorer says
the file size is 1,190,417 KB.
For some reason MS Outlook 2010 is displaying the wrong folder size.  Any ideas why this is the case?
Thanks,
Pat

Outlook mailbox grows as you create and receive items. When you delete items, the size of the Outlook Data File (.pst and .ost) file might not decrease in proportion to the data that you deleted, untill it has been compacted.
Normally, after you have deleted items from an Outlook Data File (.pst), the file will be automatically compacted in the background when you’re not using your computer and Outlook is running.
For an exception, when the Outlook Data File (.pst) is somehow corrupt, the compaction might not finish correctly. So the size of the Outlook Data File (.pst) file might remain the same before compaction.
To solve this, try run the
scanpst to fix the Outlook Data File (.pst) file first, after that, we can
manually start the compact command.
When finished, compare the file size again.

This is the message I get whenever I try to send/rec mail.. it is also the message that I get when I try to delete any messages, whether from inbox, sent items, or deleted... just seems locked up. This is not enterprise or Exchange server this is from my
wife's home office. I have been playing around with this for hours, and still get the same message and still dead in the water.. Please help! I am running windows 7home.
I was attaching the photo.. but won't take it until verified. "The Outlook data file C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst has reached the maximum size. To redude the amount of data in the file, permanently delete some items that
you no longer need. You could also consider using the new Outlook data file (.pst) introduced with Outlook 2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders.

    Hi,
You can try compacting the data file:
Go to File tab -> Account Settings -> Account Settings
-> Data Files tab, double click on the data file -> Under
General tab, click on the Compact Now button ->
    OK.
This will reduce the size of your Outlook data file. Then you can test if any items can be deleted from the .pst file.
More information about the size limit for both (.pst) and (.ost) files in Outlook, please refer to the kb below:

  • Update Folder Name in Itunes after altering Folder Name in Windows Explorer

I changed the names of Album folders using Windows Explorer. How can I make the new folder names appear in the Album list within Itunes?

iTunes doesn't display the folder names, it displays imnformation in the library database which it takes from the tags. If you want to chamge what iTunes displays, use Get Info to edit the information.
But if you change folder names in Windows explorer, iTunes will no longer be able to find the files as the path has changed and iTunes doesn't do folder watching.

In a situation such as yours, I tend to consolidate items into folders so I have folders of nice workable numbers of images, somewhere between 20 and 200 images. Now, whatever, once you've imported, do your moving within LR, not the OS! I will select all in a folder and drag into a folder a level or two or three above, and then delete the newly empty subfolders. I hope this helps a bit!
Once you've reached just new Imports of camera output, you'll be flying along.

When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
The timeout failure could be due to
Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.

  • Restoring Outlook 2010 Data

I restored my outlook data from my hard drive. All my contacts have been restored to backup in contacts but cannot be accessed when creating mail. If I try to access the main folders, all of which are there, I get a fail message saying that an outlook
file on Drive E, which does not exist!, cannot be opened.
The restore did not restore my mail folders.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Do you mean the contacts don't show up in Address Book when composing a new email and clicking To or CC button?
If so, please mark your contact folder for use with your address book. To do this, please follow:
    1. Select the Contacts folder, and then click the Folder tab in the Ribbon.
    2. Click the Folder Properties tab in the Ribbon.
    3. On the Outlook Address Book tab, click to select the
Show this folder as an e-mail address book check box, type a descriptive name, and then click
    OK.
The restore did not restore my mail folders.
How did you restore your Outlook data? If you restore it from a pst-file, we can try to open the .pst file in Outlook, and then drag/drop all messages to your account. For more information, please refer:

    Hope this helps.

  • Outlook 2010 - Move to public folder brings an error "the folder is not available"

    Hi
we have exchange 2010 SP3 in our organization
    clients use both 2010 SP2 \ 2013 outlooks
when moving an item from the mailbox to a public folder directory the item moves successfully, and the directory is added to the recent directories under the "Move" button.
then, when I try to move another item to a public folder directory from the dropdown recent list I get the error message:
    "The folder is not available"
obviously it's available as I can do the same action manually. it happens on Outlook 2010, Outlook 2010 SP2 and Outlook 2013
    for all the users
    so it's not a profile or a user's issue
I saw many posts with the same error but they mostly talk about pst files and the solution is the kb
2405793‎ which is already included in SP2 + out users don't use pst. everything is in exchange
hope to get some answers before I open support case at MS

    Hi Tamir Levy,
From your description, when you drag an item to public folder, it is successful. When you use the "Move" button to move an item to public folder, it occurred the above error. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
I recommend you check if the issue also exists via OWA. If the issue doesn't occur when you use OWA, please verify if the issue happens on Outlook online mode or in cached mode.
    Hope it helps.

  • Outlook 2010 not display public folder/calendar

We have a calendar in a public folder which is no longer visible when navigating through the public folder list. User which have previously opened this calendar and added to my favorites are still accessing the calendar without issue. But no one else can
open the calendar. I've tried to manually enter the path in the open shared calendar dialog and not found. How can users be accessing the calendar from an old favorite but the calendar not be visible any longer? Everyone is using Outlook 2010.

    Hi,
From the description, the calendar is no longer available (been deleted or something else) in the public folder. Logically, it's not possible to access the calendar.
For these users who still have access to the calendar, I'd like to confirm if they cached the public folder to local by enabling "Download Public Folder Favorites" under Account Settings. In this case, the users may access the calendar in the cached
Public Folder Favorites. To check if these users have the "Download Public Folder Favorites" enabled, please follow:
    1. Click File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
    2. Highlight the Exchange Account and click Change button.
    3. Click More Settings button and switch to Advanced tab.
    4. Check if the "Download Public Folder Favorites" option is enabled.
We can try unchecking the option to verify if this issue is due to the Public Folder Favorites cache.

  • Folder appears in Windows Explorer, but not in the Open File dialog

    Hello,
I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, please let me know where is.
A friend just showed me a weird problem he is having with his computer. He is using Windows 7 pro, and has a folder under My Documents, in which he keeps his work files. He emails these files using Gmail, which he accesses via Internet Explorer.
All worked fine until a few days ago, when he noticed that when he clicked the link in Gmail to attach a file, his folder wasn't listed in the Open File dialog. He looked in Windows Explorer, and could see the folder OK. I tried opening Word and using the Open
File dialog there, and the folder wasn't visible.
If he clicks in the address bar, and adds the folder name to the path, it opens the folder, but shows it as empty. I actually has two subfolders. If he adds the name of a subfolder, then the Open File dialog shows the files in that folder.
I checked the permissions on the folder, and couldn't see anything odd. What I don't understand is how the folder can be visible in Windows Explorer, and not in the Open File dialog.
    Anyone any ideas? Thanks

I can confirm - I'm having the exact same problem.
When I try to lookup or save a file from an IE file dialog some folders do not show up. I can type the folder name into the directory field and it then goes there, but this assumes you know the directory name and it's a PITB.
Firefox can browse to the directory directly.
It would be interesting if anyone else found a fix for this - I'll post here again if I find out more somewhere else, but there are not too many threads out there as far as I have found for now.
Found a solution over at answers at Microsoft dot com. (can post links here yet - will update once I can)
In short: There's a fast fix for this issue by resetting a hidden flag that IE sets for some folders. I believe this part of the "protected mode" feature, though I can't confirm and also have no idea how this would protect me from any intruders,
if only (unimportant) subfolders are protected ...
Anyway - if you know the name of the missing folder (e.g. from browsing the directories form windows explorer): in the parent directory that has the folder missing do a Search (in box at top right) for the missing
folder name. In my case the hidden folder shows up in the search - now right click -> Properties -> clear hidden flag. Note: this "hidden" flag is independent of the flags set in windows explorer - that's why you have trouble going there with IE and not
the file explorer from the desktop.

  • Photoshop cs6 could not save as .psd because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file

Have three users with CS6 Design Standard having problem saving files to a network share. All three are running Windows 7 SP1. CS 6 has all current updates applied. Have searched google for solution but all suggestions so far have not solved problem.
Have confirmed that windows explorer preview pane is not enabled/turned off. Other users on the network have no problems saving file to shared folder. Users can save to desktop and then copy and paste or drag and drop to the share!

Further Google searching found this bit of information....and it fixed our problem!
Rather than deleting the files I renamed them as follows Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs_old & Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs_old
To fix and prevent this error from happening, the user will navigate to:
    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings
Depending on what version of photoshop is causing the error to appear you will delete the following file:
    Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp (for 32bit version)
    Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs.psp (for 64bit version)

  • VI Properties "Documentation" under Windows Explorer?

Is there any way to view a VI's Documentation property while browsing a folder of vi's for re-use from an OLD project, say in Windows Explorer?

The attached zip file contains a tool that I created a couple of years ago to perform our upgrade from LV 7.0 to 8.6.
The tool uses the right click context menu to view or update the VI documentation, check the version of a VI, and perform other various file functions. (Open VIs & text files, run VI Analyzer, 'touch any file (update date time) etc...)
The Top Level VI has almost no code. The guts are inside and XControl, which uses VI Server functions.
If you turn on context help (Control-H) from the top level VI, you can see the VI documentation for a VI without opening it.
This code is in LabVIEW 8.6. It was a fun project, and has a few things that could be cleaned up or done better, but the code had a limited purpose.
Now is the right time to use %^<%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S%3uZ>T

  • I updated folder info via windows explorer....

& now my songs/albums are missing from itunes. well, the names are there but the files aren't. because i moved/edited them. but only within my main library folder so they're there but itunes thinks they're in a different THERE.
i had a bunch of albums showing as "compilations" that weren't (ie licensed to ill by the beastie boys) so i moved their folders from the "compilations" folder to their respective artist folders in windows explorer. i also made some changes to misspelled artist names on folders and stuff. now when i try to play those songs in iTunes they can't be located.
conceptually i understand why, but i didn't move anything out of my main library destination folder, just within it so i don't see why i should have to re-import or -add all of the files....is there a way to refresh/redirect iTunes (without doubling all of my files) or do i have to go "locate" each song/file individually?
Dear "compilations": I HATE YOU. :P love, mia.

I hate that Compilations folder, too. So here's a tip - when you rip CDs to itunes in the future, BEFORE you hit the import button in itunes, do a +Get Info+ on all the tracks and make sure the "Part of a Compilation" is turned off in the Options tab.
As to itunes losing the paths to the files, that is how it is designed. It only knows absolute path names to the files. By renaming or moving files using Windows Explorer, you confused itunes.
    You either have to
    1. re-add the files so itunes gets updated with the new path (and remember to delete the old entry with the bad path)
    2. Locate each song individually

  • New folder created in Windows explorer not visible in Bridge.

If I create a new folder in My Pictures
folder using Windows Explorer, it doesn't show up in Bridge
. I do it that way because selecting
Get Photos from Camera doesn't allow me to select only the photos I want from the card. Why does Bridge not show all folders in My Pictures. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. This message is formatting rather strangely.
    Thank you

Libraries rely on a good bit of "magic" that has been added to Explorer.
My advice:  Avoid them like the plague.  They do nothing you can't do by organizing your folders yourself, but they cause a host of problems.  I've disabled them in my system and in a year I haven't missed them one bit.  I'm all the happier for it.
Windows 7 is a great system, but one of its weak points is [some parts of] Windows Explorer.  I think the same people programmed Explorer as made those awful commercials.

  • Folder created in Windows Explorer not visible in Command Line as SYSTEM user

    Hello everyone,
We have an odd behavior with an application installation, which I cannot make much sense of.
We are trying to deploy an application on Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 which tries to access
    C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop during installation.
This folder does not exist by default in a Windows 8.1 installation. Hence we am creating this folder using a VBS script manually. The VBS script also launches the application EXE. The setup itself runs under the SYSTEM account (in order to be deployed using
    SCCM).
When the install script is launched, we can see in the Windows Explorer that the "Desktop" folder is created in the systemprofile directory. However, to the setup running under the system account, this folder is not visible.
I have verified this by running a command line prompt under the SYSTEM user and navigating to
C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\. Using the "dir" command does not show you a "Desktop" folder under the EXACT same path.
When we create the Desktop folder from this command prompt, the application installs just fine.
What are we missing? Any inputs are highly appreciated.

    Hi,
Might this need to quit the command prompt after the folder creation, then reload it to continue the installation of the software?
    Best regards
