Outlook 2010 in an RDS farm

Hi All
I am just getting my head around how my applications and more importantly Outlook 2010 will behave in my farm environment. I have 2 Host Sessions in a farm and have the same applications installed across both (Office 2010). I want Outlook to have the same
configurations when users login between both host session servers.
I am using folder redirection for all the regular document folders in a users profile.
It looks like Word, Excel and Powerpoint all store application customizations in the AppData\Roaming folder. So I figure I can use roaming profiles to take care of that. Are most of you using roaming for the AppData folder? But Outlook stores
all important customizations in AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache which cant be roaming. So what are people doing to make sure the user has a consistent experience when in a farm environment?

Hi,
You can try to use “Use cached Exchange mode" option for RDS. I think you will find below article useful for deploying office 2010 in RDS environment.
1.  Plan to deploy Office 2010 in a Remote Desktop Services environment
2.  Installing Outlook 2010 and using Cached Exchange Mode in a Remote Desktop Services environment
3.  Outlook 2010 Roaming Profile / RDS
Hope it helps!
Thanks,
Dharmesh

  • Outlook 2010 (+ Exchange 2013) works extremely slow

We have a user that works with Outlook 2010 (on a RDS Server) that is connected with cache to Exchange 2013. The response of Outlook is extremely slow and we think because this user has a 15Gb mailbox. However, he refuses to delete any mail for various
reasons. Is there any way to speed up Outlook? The rest of the system works fine, it's just the email.

    Hi,
By "connected with cache to Exchange 2013", do you mean the user is using Cached Exchange mode? If not, please help the user switch to Cached Exchange mode to check the result. If the user has any shared folders, also cache those folders to check if it helps.
If we try to start Outlook in safe mode, will this issue persists? To open Outlook in safe mode, press Windows key + R to open the Run box, type
outlook.exe /safe and press Enter. If performance improves, check again to make sure that you disabled any Outlook add-ins that may affect performance.
In addition, please click File tab > Info > section Mailbox Cleanup and check your Exchange Quota information. We can also try to close Outlook,
rename the OST file, and then reopen Outlook to re-create the OST file.

  • Lync 2013 Frequent Contacts not showing in Outlook 2010 on RDS

Running Outlook 2010 along with Lync 2013.
On a Windows 7 PC if I launch Outlook first, then launch Lync. The frequent contacts will appear on the To-Do bar after "refreshing outlook" (minimizing and maximizing or changing folders.
If I do the same thing on a Windows 2008 R2 RDS machine the Frequent contacts never appear. I have to close down Outlook and reopen Outlook for them to appear.
Does anyone have any detail information about how the integration between Outlook and Lync works to bring through these contacts?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I test the issue on Windows Server 2008 R2 and I found the frequent contacts appeared on the To-Do bar if I opened Outlook 2010 firstly and then opened Lync 2013 client.
So please make sure Outlook 2010 and Lync 2013 client to the latest version and then test again.

  • Outlook 2013 on 2012 RDS and Outlook/Exchange 2010 FAT client font issue

Our terminal server was changed from a 2008 RDP box with Office 2003 to a 2012 RDS box with office 2013 on it. Now if a user changes a font - or any view setting - on the 2013 copy on the terminal box, their desktop in the office which runs Outlook 2010
has the 2013 settings. Why and how - if possible - do I make that stop?
Specifically a user made her font large from home to see it better on her home monitor and when she came in to the office, her outlook here had the large font and she had to change it back...which changed her view on the terminal server back to small.
Can THAT be managed through either of the Outlook clients or Exchange 2010 server? It does NOT happen with OWA so I assume the server is ruled out.
    Thanks!

    Hi Ms. Creant,
About this issue, I talked with Office colleagues, the issue you encountered is normal. If you change the font size from one client side, then you log in Outlook on another server, this settings
    will be synchronized.
From Exchange side, we can only set OWA font settings, there is no way to prevent the synchronization of this in Outlook.
    Thanks for understanding.

  • Outlook 2010 as a remote app with Remote Exchnage

    Hello All
I am running RDS Farm with Windows Server 2008 R2. I have 2 RDS servers connected to domain and so on.
I have managed to "publish" Internet Explorer as a remote app (For secure surfing) and it works perfectly.
Now I would like to publish Outlook 2010 as a remote app and getting this issue:
When I try to run the published outlook shortcut, it opens up the outlook profile initialize in order to get the exchange server settings which is ok. But when I try to type my exchange server parameters
it does not accept it and I get the attached screenshot error.
It seems like it does not "see" the Exchange server from the remote app.
On the other hand, if I log on to one of the rds servers with RDP (as remote desktop) and open up outlook, it accept the details and works fine. ( Basically I do not want to publish
a full remote desktop but only specific remote apps )
From some reason when I run the Outlook as a remote app it does not recognize the Exchange server and won't let me setup the profile.
Even if I type the ip address of my exchange I get the same error, so I assume it has nothing to do with DNS issue nor Firewall or Antivirus.(?)
In addition, Once I do manage to initialize the profile through the RDP and then run it from the remote app it works.
Obviously I cannot log on with 60 with remote desktop and initialize their profiles, I need to publish it and configure the profile from the remote app....
    some more details :
    1. Windows 2008 R2 Domain environment.
    2. Exchnage server 2007 Std.
    2. LAN is on a different segment from RDS Farm and Exchnage Server is on a difrenet Segment as well.
    3. If any other details is needed please let me know.
Moreover, this post seem to be similar to my issue but I am not sure if it would solve my issue. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/059a57ad-09e0-4b2d-9292-18532f7d0339/outlook-2010-server-is-unavailable-error-when-starting-remote-app?forum=winserverTS)

  • Outlook 2010 "Server is unavailable" error when starting remote app

    All,
I have recently built and configured a new server to run Remote Desktop Services.  It in on Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit.
I have published numerous applications (e.g. Adobe, Visio, Project, etc. as well as Office 2010) to the host server.  Everything works with the exception of Outlook 2010 (client of an Exchange 2010 server).  When I or any of my users try to bring
it up in the RDS portal, it goes through the normal start-up of any Outlook first use and looks for an existing email account.  As it is trying to load the user profile, an error pops up saying "The server is unavailable."  Clicking "Retry" does
    not work at all.
When I run Outlook directly from the RDS host server itself, it loads up and runs fine so I know the RDS server can contact the Exchange server.
Any ideas on why the Outlook application works on the host server but will not work when trying to run it through the RDS Web Access portal?
    Thanks.

  • Outlook 2010 sync errors

    Hello.
We have a specific client (among many others) whose Outlook 2010 is working in cached exchange mode. This client while connecting to an intranet exchange infrastructure is getting synchronization errors in the form of:
    80040109-50A-80040109-560
The function cannot be performed because the message has beem changed.
As a first measure we deleted and rebuild his .ost (suspected a .ost corruption) but that didn't help.Any ideas are welcome.

Hello Ethan and thanks for the reply.
We rebuilt a brand new Outlook 2010 profile of the user on his RDS profile and the issue occured again.Things to notice:
    - Running in parallel the RDS profile and the user working on his PC. the issue may happen in one of the enviroments indepedently
    - In Owa mail feed is constant as it should so we assume no server issues
    - Antivirus exclusions (Forefront) client side have already been applied
    - With TCPview (or netstat) we monitored Outlook TCP sessions towards exchange staying alive at the moment of the problem.
    - No firewalls (as we 've been informed) between the clients and the exchange server (native windows server firewall is disabled for testing). No antivirus on the exchange servers
    - Latest suspects are either Outlook 2010 so we upgraded to 2013 or public folders.
Administration of the exchange infrastructure is done by my colleague and I am helping in troubleshooting the issue.
    Regards.

  • Assigned to multiple users not displaying in Outlook 2010

    Hi All,
First time on here, so please be kind.
Running SharePoint 2013 with Outlook 2010 and when I connect a Task list to outlook it only displays the first assigned to user in Outlook.
Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi,
It doesn't support multiple users in "Assigned To" column to sync with Outlook by design, so only the first user in the “Assigned To” column can be synced to Outlook.
Here is a similar thread which is about SharePoint 2010, but it is the same about the Connect to Outlook feature in SharePoint 2013 (if Sync to Outlook feature is disabled in the farm):
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/14ce1155-8bdf-43d4-9a3d-7183feb4bd56/synchronizing-sharepoint-2010-tasks-with-multiple-users-in-assigned-to-with-outlook-2010?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
For Sync to Outlook feature, only the tasks assigned to you will be synced to your Outlook.

  • IP Virtualization - Outlook 2010 unable autoconfigure

    Hello!
I have a problem with Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010 on the MS Windows Server 2008 R2 RDS (RD Session Host) with users sessions IP-Virtualization. Outlook does not detect username (and email address) when user launch Outlook first time. If user
manually enter all user parameters then Outlook works fine, but Outlook must do it automatically (Outlook_unable_detect_username.jpg). Without IP-Virtualization on the RD Session Host Outlook 2010 successfully detect username when first launched (Outlook_success_detect_username.jpg).

Help me, please, with this problem.

    Hi!
I do not agree that this topic should be moved to Exchange 2010 because without RDS IP-Virtualization Outlook Autoconfiguration test processed successfully. And with RDS IP-Virtualization after Outlook manually
    configuration autoconfiguration test successfull too.

  • How can I use the Outlook 2010 social connector to connect to a Sharepoint 2013 mysite?

    Hello Forumfriends!
We have recently (like, last Weekend) migrated our Sharepoint 2010 Farm to SharePoint 2013 and we have started using mysites.
Now, there is a nice featur in Outlook 2010, the social connector. This connector connects nicely to SharePoint 2010 mysite (it does, I have tested myself).
Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to connect to my new SharePoint 2013 mysite with my Outlook 2010 Client.
Can anyone help me with this?
In SharePoint 2010 I configured the social connector using the URL
http://mysitehost/my. When I do the same with my SharePoint 2013 mysite it says "Could not connect to Server"
We are not using Office 365 and no, we will not rollout Outlook 2013.
    Regards,
    Jack

    Hi Jack,
According to your description, my understanding is that you could use Outlook 2010 social connector to connect a SharePoint 2013 MySite.
The OSC makes Outlook 2010 a social networking tool by connecting to the new social experiences in SharePoint 2010. That connection allows the OSC to download activity feeds for colleagues and display them inside the new People Pane.
When using Outlook 2013 Social Connector connecting to SharePoint 2013, Outlook calls /_layouts/15/ActivityFeed.aspx with parameter (destination user email) to sync updates. However, it is likely that Outlook 2010 cannot recognize SharePoint 2013 newsfeed.
So, for solving your issue, I suggest you use Outlook 2013 Social Connector to connect a SharePoint 2013 MySite.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Multiple TS environment: Outlook 2010 Cached Exchange Mode

I know there are related threads but there was never a resolution to the question as far as i can tell and my scenario is different than the others:
We have two load balanced Citrix terminal servers running Server 2008r2 with Office 2010 installed. I want to enable Cached Exchange mode for the TS profiles. We use Desktop Authority (formerly ScriptLogic) to control most user settings based on what user
they are and what computer they are logging into. On both servers we have put in a SSD drive mapped as D: where we will be caching the OST files.
Through Desktop Authority i had set the default OST location and enabled cached exchange mode for a group of test users and it worked great when they first logged in. It cached where it needed to cache and all was well. But when that user logged off and
logged onto the other RDS server, their profiles would look for the OST on the server that is was first created on even though the default OST location was D: (independent of computer). I thought it would just recreate the OST on the new TS they were logging
into but it throws an error when launching outlook stating that it cannot find the OST becasue its looking for it on a "share" stored on the other TS.
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

    Hi,
In your scenario, I think this blog below will be helpful to you, you can try to change the .ost file location and check if this can be a fix:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/danstolts/archive/2012/11/07/how_2d00_to_2d00_change_2d00_default_2d00_data_2d00_file_2d00_ost_2d00_location_2d00_in_2d00_office_2d00_2013.aspx
Note: The article is written for Outlook 2013, but it also applies to Outlook 2010. The version of Outlook 2013 is 15.0, for Outlook 2010 it's 14.0.
Since I don't have Desktop Authority here, I'm not sure what settings it may control, you can contact their support to discuss this problem as well.

  • Slow Outlook 2010 Search functionality

Scenario: 20+ RDS 2012, remote application users. Spanning 3 remote locations connected via cloud based firewall for MPLS vpn. Remote users are reporting very slow outlook 2010 search, resulting in freezing and crashing via remote app. Some users have
very large mailboxes some do not. Is there a best practice for outlook via remote app for caching?
How could I increase the search function speed for the remote users?
    ~SH

    Hi,
Initially please check the network speed for your environment?
Have you face this issue before?
Might possible sometime that through VPN tunnel wasnt encapsulating all traffic and thus can face slowness issue and wasn’t passing HTTPS, Outlook, Active Directory and DNS traffic (all of which are encrypted). In addition, you can go through
this article which provide some more insight points for outlook troubleshooting.
    - Check for pst-file corruptions
    - Disable and then re-enable the file for indexing
    - Reset the index
    - Reinstall the Windows Search feature
    - Check event-viewer for any useful Event ID\error
    Hope it helps!

I have installed all updates to Office 2010, I have even updated to pro plus thinking 2010 might be the problem, not compatible with Widnows 8.1 but still the same annoying issue pops up!. Its driving me mad, I cannot solve the problem.
Will not work direct to the hub either
Now here's more to add to the mystery.

Outlook 2013 now sends and receives, and with a much quicker response than the with the usb.
Not much consolation for your problem, perhaps. But it may be just a case of waiting.
It's one for the networking experts, I think.
There's been problems in the past connecting to the BBC homepage, which can go on for several days then just "goes away".

  • Save As Dialog Not Showing when opening pdf from Outlook 2010

    Hi
I have recently had to change the default documents folder on a windows 7 machine (Right Click Documents, properties,  include folder, set save location). Since this change, when opening an attached pdf document in outlook 2010 and viewing with adobe reader, if i click Save as from the file menu, no os dialog appears and therefore user cannot choose a place to save the document.
As a work around the user can right click the attachment save the docment to a location, once opened, ther save as dialog is usable.
I have uninstalled and re-installed reader to the laterst version, but with no luck.
    Any ideas?

This looks like a new behavior of Outlook 2010 and isn't specific to PDFs. You will need to "save as" the document. There is a thread at Microsoft forums about this with some possible workarounds:
