Outlook 2013 Changing Shared Calendar Appointment Categories causes error The Operation failed the messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error

Hi
Our user used to be able to change the categories in a shared outlook calendar appointment but is now getting the error:
The Operation failed the messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook.
We have tried re-creating the mail profile but still get the same error.
If anyone has any other suggestions, that would be great, thanks.

Glad to hear that it works fine in new profile. It seems your old OST file or other file in profile is corrupted. After you create a new profile, Outlook would re-sync your mailbox to a totally new OST as the data file.

In an Exchange 2010 server/Outlook 2013 environment, one of our users is getting an error message every time they start Outlook. The error message says: "The operation failed. The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error. If the problem

The error log message details are as follow:

    The system is as follows:
Size of .pst file: 2.3 GB (Unicode format so there should be plenty of space left)
    OS: Windows 7 (64-Bit)
    Application: Outlook 2013 (32-Bit)
The user upgraded from Outlook 2010 a few months ago and the error message has only recently started appearing on startup. I thought it was a corrupt mail profile, so I have already tried creating a new mail profile, as well as the repairing tool in Outlook.
I even tested another email account and that worked just fine. So apparently it is something wrong with the specific user's account/profile and not something wrong with the computer - since my email account worked fine on his computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same error message, only in my situation Outlook would only open successfully every 4 or 5 attempts. When Outlook would open (versus just hanging at the splash screen), I would get two dialog boxes with the warning/error message.
After I clicked okay I could get into Outlook.
Previously I experienced this problem running my Office 2010 client with my Exchange 2007 mailbox on my old laptop.  The problem followed my mailbox through an Exchange 2010 migration (so new Exchange org), client upgrade to Outlook 2013, and a new
laptop (so I knew it wasn't a corrupt profile).  This led me to the conclusion that it was a corrupt item(s) in my mailbox.
To resolve the issue, I archived *everything* in my mailbox to a PST file, ran SCANPST to fix the corruption, and then uploaded everything back into my Exchange mailbox one folder at a time, stopping after each folder to close and restart Outlook so I could
narrow down which folder had the corrupt item if the problem recurred.  I'm happy to say my issue is now resolved.

  • 'Reply with meeting' button causes "... operation failed. The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error"

    Hi all
We're running Outlook 2010 SP2 on W7 SP1 64-bit and getting this error when clicking the "Reply with meeting" button:-
The same error occurs whether we click this button when the message is closed or open and when we untick "close original message window when replying or forwarding".
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks
    Scott

    Hi,
You can try if this issue persists when you switch Outlook to Exchange Online Mode:
    1.Click the File tab.
2.Click Account Settings, and then click Account Settings.
3.On the E-mail tab, click the Exchange account, and then click
    Change.
4.Under Microsoft Exchange server, clear the Use Cached Exchange Mode
    check box.
5.Exit and then restart Microsoft Outlook 2010.
This issue may be related to 3rd-party add-ins, you can verify this by running Outlook in Safe Mode:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
    I hope this can help.

    Hello,
Did you try to repair Outlook/Office?
Please take a look at the
similar forum thread. It suggests the following:
    •re-create an outlook profile
•scanning/repairing the .pst files (because Outlook Data Files can be corrupted)
    Is this the case?
Anyway, I'd suggest asking non-programming questions on the Outlook IT Pro Discussions forum instead.

  • OUTLOOK 2013 permission shared calendar Free/Busy doesn't work for some the users Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2003 that use outlook 2007/2010

    Hello,
We are in coexitence organisation (transition Migration) Exchange 2003 sp2 and Exchange 2010 sp1.
Users in Exchange 2003 use outlook 2007 and outlook 2010
Users in Exchange 2010 use outlook 2007, outlook 2010 and outlook 2013.
Issue: users in Exchange 2003 can't open outlook 2013 user calendar when he has Busy/Free information as default permission in his calendar.
User in Exchange 2010 with outlook 2007 can't also open outlook 2013 user calendar when he has Busy/Free information as default permission in his calendar.
Is it normal ? or exist some configurations to do in order to coexist all thoses clients and servers ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Does this issue occur on Outlook only or both Outlook and OWA?
Since you have double checked the permissions via multiple methods, it seems there is nothing problem on permission. Please make sure the migration from Exchange 2003 server completed successfully.
If in OWA everything goes well (cannot see details), it should be an issue on the Outlook client side.
I suggest run Outlook under safe mode to avoid some AVs and add-ins.
I suggest re-create profile to refresh the caches.

  • Outlook 2013 treating Shared Calendars differently

I did try to ask this in a
different forum, but was pointed to this one:
This question encompasses a few Microsoft products, but I think this is the best place to ask the question because the actual issue is Outlook 2013 for Windows desktop.
We have Outlook connecting to a couple of different kinds of Shared Calendars. The problem is it is only performing appointment reminders for one of the kinds.
The one that IS working: a shared calendar created by creating a Room on a Windows Phone. When anyone in the Room creates an appointment with a reminder on that calendar, the reminder goes off in each user's Outlook 2013.
The one that IS NOT working: a shared calendar created in Exchange Online. When any member of that shared mailbox creates an appointment with a reminder on that calendar, the reminder DOES NOT go off in each user's Outlook 2013.
The question: How do we get the reminders to work in the second case?

Are the room calendar appointments  added to the user's default calendar in Outlook? If so, they will get a reminder in Outlook. (They aren't added to my calendar here - I only get a reminder on my phone - the Room lives only on my phone.)
Shared calendars are in another mailbox and reminders don't fire in those mailboxes. If the user has owner permissions and opens the shared mailbox by adding it to their profile they should get reminders.  File, Account Settings, double click on the
account, then More Settings - select the shared mailbox to add it to the profile.

  • Outlook 2013 Exchange 2013 Address Book Error 0x8004010F : The operation failed. An object cannot be found.

    Hi,
We have Exchange 2013 running in our network, and are using Outlook 2013 on all PCs. We added some users several weeks ago, and they are not showing up in the Address Book. When we try to download the Address Book in Outlook, we receive the error 0x8004010F
: The operation failed. An object cannot be found.
Please let me know how I can start to troubleshoot this.
    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi
There is a multiple reason to receive an error 0x8004010f, it is just a generic MAPI error.
Let’s check all settings are configured the way it is supposed to be: -
    1.    Make sure the authentication setting is set up properly by using this command: -
Get-OabVirtualDirectory -ADPropertiesOnly | ft Identity, *Auth* -AutoSize
    2.    Check URL’S are configured properly: -
Get-OabVirtualDirectory -ADPropertiesOnly | ft Identity, *url* -AutoSize
    3.    Check the location of OAB: -
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\OAB
    4.    Now find out the location of the database on which the Arbitration mailbox resides: -
    Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | where {$_.PersistedCapabilities -like “*OAB*”} | ft Name, Servername, Database
    Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus MGUxxx
    5.    It is also important to ensure all database has the OAB set up properly for this use CMDLET: -
    Get-MailboxDatabase | Ft Name, *book*
    6.    If one or more database does not have OAB setup, then use CMDLET to set OAB for it: -
Get-Mailboxdatabase | Set-MailboxDatabase -OfflineAddressBook “Default Offline Address Book”
    7.    If the issue is affecting only one or specific set of users, then check they have an OAB specified on their account: -
    Get-Mailbox abc.xyz | fl Name, OfflineAddressBook,Database
Please correct me if the information that I am having is wrong.
    Reply awaited.
    Thanks and regards

  • Outlook error "The Delegate settings were not saved correctly. cannot activate send-on-behalf-of list. The operation failed"

    Hi,
Re: "The Delegate settings were not saved correctly. cannot activate send-on-behalf-of list.  The operation failed"
I have a client who is getting the above error when attempting to change delegate permissions in Outlook 2010.
She is also getting this error when she tries to remove a delegate.
I have tried recreating her mail profile.
I have also tried kb2593557. The auto fix didn't work at all and the registry fix only removes the error message and not the problem. This client would like to be able to edit her delegate permissions.
    She is on Exchange 2010
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

The article you provided is not related to the error message that the user is getting it.
Can you please provide better solution? I know this answer and this post is old but I am having same issue.
The error message is only (The Delegates settings were not saved correctly. cannot activate send-on-behalf-of list. The operation failed) I was not able to attach screen shot.

  • When you try to send or to receive email in Outlook 2010, you may receive one of these error messages: 0x8004010F: Outlook data file cannot be accessed. or 0x8004010F: The operation failed. An object could not be found.

    1. reviewed Profile instructions
    2. Ran SytTools thinking it would fix the error. NO although I could send received I ended up with a giant pst
    3. Back to Profile Instructions.
    4. Set up new profile with my email address. email address tested well. Run Outlook. loads as outlook data PST
and  gmail address PST.  Deleted all the Gmail subscriptions to improve speed. Original error was gone but have two GIGANIC PST FILES.
    5. Set up another new profile with my email address and a named pst.  Run Outlook under that Profile -
comes up with newly named pst and the gmail addrress pst (although I can't figure out where that pst is located. Will not let me use email address as default Profile.  Tried different approaches and still ended up always with the gmail address pst.  Deleted
all profiles but email address and comes   up.
    6. Should I just go ahead and use the gmail address pst  I need to import data or download data from gmail
    to get last years correspondence.e
    7. Outlook is my lifeblood, I am in communications and every submitted email gets moved to a file with an update.
    Help?
    8. One option is to merge psts but might make worse mess.
    Thanks.  Beautiful Beach weather here!

  • Outlook 2013 Imported .CSV calendar events only show in List view

I've been attempting to create a new calendar of events by importing a .CSV file.  I can import the file but the data only shows up in the LIST view.  This is the format of the data I'm importing:
    Subject
    Start Date
    Start Time
    End Date
    End Time
    All Day Event
    Show Time As
    Coach Clinic
    3/7/2010
    8:00:00 AM
    3/7/2010
    5:00:00 PM
    FALSE
    0
I'm using Outlook 2013 desktop on Windows 7, the .CSV file was exported (saved as) from Excel 2013 file.
Why can't I see this data in calendar view.

Create a CSV with the same format as you post and import it into My default Calendar. The calendar entry is visible both in Calendar view and List view.
I've notice your Start Data/End Date is 3/7/2010 but not in 3/7/2014, you need to turn the calendar page to a 4-year-ago to check that..
(In my test, I'v changed the data to 2014)

  • Outlook cached mode, shared calendars, permissions and sync errors

We have the following environment -

This occurs if Naomi shares her Calendar with me, without granting me read "Full Details", if she changes the permissions and allows me to read Full Details, the sync error goes away.
It's repeatable, i have tested it with a few users sharing calendars with each other, and changing permissions.
The peculiar thing is that Naomi is in My Team, so her calendar is listed under Team Calendar,  I get no sync errors, it's only when I add Naomi's Calendar as a Shared Calendar and don't have read Full Access permission that the sync errors appear.
User's don't necessarily want to give Full Access to their Calendars, so that's not really a viable work around for us, this smells very much like a bug with outlook, is anyone else seeing this?

  • Outlook Connector and shared calendar

    Hi.
Looking for some help troubleshooting an issue with shared calendar functionality from Outlook using the Connector.
All server bits are JES-R2. Connector version is 6.0.129.
Connector is working for the most part, but when I try to subscribe to another users calendar from Outlook it is failing. Even when I do a search, and pick the user from the list, the lookup fails to return the user and I get "User not found. Either enter the email id of the user OR click on Search and then click Find to locate the user."
The ldap search I'm seeing in the access logs is curious in the sense that it seems to binding with dn="".

    [23/Jun/2004:15:18:55 -0400] conn=346 op=-1 msgId=-1 - closed.
This is returning 0 entries, and I believe this is why it is failing. I believe the connector is probably using this search to retrieve the users calendar_id.
If I type the uid into the dialog box (to subscribe) I get this in the ldap:

If someone is still following this thread:
The problem seems to stem from the fact that the subscribe to calendar function from the connector (outlook) is searching ldap on uid, but using an email address as a value:

  • Outlook 2013 (Only) - Shared Mailbox - Not Syncing

    Hi
After searching this forum and many other forums online, I have decided to ask my question here as I cannot find a solution.
We are migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 at the moment. All of a sudden our Outlook 2013 users (All of them) cannot update Shared Mailboxes. When you select that folder it says "Updating this Folder" but nothing is happening. Only happens
with their open Shared Mailbox not with their own Mailbox. I have done the following tests:
Users can open the Shared Mailbox and sync properly using OWA.
Users can open the Shared Mailbox but cannot sync via Outlook 2013.
Users can open and sync the Shared Mailbox via Outlook 2010.
Ran OST repair tool, no luck.
Completely deleted the profile and wiped all the files in the outlook folder and recreated the profile, no luck. (Not syncing straight away.)
Users can sync the Shared Mailbox when they are running outlook in Online mode. (I dont wanna do this coz they want to save their sent emails from a Shared Mailbox into the respective "Sent Item" folder which only works in Cached Mode.
Everything used to work fine and suddenly stopped for everyone. Can you please guide me on how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.
    With regards
    M
    PS
I just realized that my Build Version is "Version 14.1 (Build 218.15)"
I am downloading the Service Pack 3, and it might help?

    Hi,
It seems that the issue only happens in Outlook 2013 Cached mode. If you add secondary mailboxes to your profile through the Advanced
tab in the Microsoft Exchange dialog box, please check whether the “Download Shared Folders” is enabled in the Advanced tab.
If it is, the Sync issue occurs may because Outlook 2013 locally caches (in your Outlook data file [.ost]) all folders to which you have access in the secondary mailbox. To resolve it, we can refer to the detailed solution in the following KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2297543/en-us

    Hi,
I found this little tick yesterday and did clear it. So now people can still have their own mailbox cached and the rest online. But thank you for the link coz I couldnt find it before and it is good to know that it is a known issue rather than being a misconfiguration
at server level :) I have marked your post as the answer. Thanks again.
