Output as H.264 - blurry | default folder

I am an occasional user of Premiere CS4 on Mac OS 10.6.8, with no in-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of video export. In the past, I have used the default settings with one difference (see below) to achieve good results. In my current project, which uses exactly the same workflow as previous ones, I encounter 2 difficulties:
The output is blurry
AME insists on using the same folder for saving the output files as for the previous project. I have over 500 files to save, and I don't want to have to select the right folder manually each time.
Here's a screenshot comparing the source and the output, and showing the settings:
http://dev.lexogram.com/forum/h264Export.jpg
The only change from the standard H.264 format is the dimensions: 320 x 240 pixels. This has not caused blurriness in previous projects.
To avoid black lines around the output, I need to choose 360 x 245 pixels as the source area (or a similar ratio). Why is that? Does this give a clue as to what the problem is?
Many thanks in advance for insights into how to solve these two problems.
James

Hi able123,
Thanks again for your input and your support with this issue.

your source stuff is 720x480 according to your posted pic. You seem to be sorta framing the mouth of person for export at 320x240 ? How about trying 360x240 which would "halve" your source size ?
The output format is required to be 320 x 240. 360 x 240 would have worked, but it wasn't the choice that was made at the start of the project.
are all your clips going to be mouth shots of people talking and do they need to be separate movies ?
It's all the same person and yes, it needs to be separate movies. It's for an application to help people who have suffered from a stroke to see which muscles they need to move to create each kind of sound. The user can play the same short video over and over again to understand the movements.
If your clips are all similar to the one posted...why not start a project that is 360x240 ... Does that work ??
That would mean starting over again from the beginning. I have already created over 500 subclips and tweaked the In and Out points, and it took several days of work. It would be great just to be able to export the existing subclips without any blur, just as I did for previous versions of this product in other languages.
From what you say, I am guessing that the blur comes from the changed ratio of the image. To get an output at 320 x 240, with no black borders, I need to crop the source at 360 x 245 (or a similar ratio). This is what I don't understand: why is the output not the same ratio as the source? How can I export, pixel for pixel, a cropped section of the source?
I am hoping that there is some simple setting that I have modified by mistake, and which I can simply set right and all will work the way it did before. However, the video was not recorded with the same camera. The 3 previous versions were recorded on 3 different cameras, and this version on a fourth. It was recorded on tape and then imported from the camera into iMovie. I don't know how the previous recordings were made. Is this likely to be an issue?

  • The latest answer from you to me is that my photos are safe and that I should look in a default folder. I have tried to do this but cannot find it.  How do I find the default folder.

I received your emai stating that my photos are safe and are present in the folder on your computer that you specified when importing them. If you used Photoshop Album Starter Edition to import your files from the camera without changing the default folder, look in this folder.  I have tried looking in the default folder and there is nothing there to help. Some of these photos were scanned in from my Cannon Printer.  Surely if Adobe are requesting me to register and telling me they will send me a code no. that is all that needs to be done.

I'm so sorry, but in today's world, the support of low cost products through personal contact has become very uncommon.  It simply does not pay to sell a product for $50 or $100 and then pay people to sit in cubicles to talk on the phone that may cost $50 or $100 an hour.
That said, I'll try to help for free!
CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 are products from the past that, as far as I know are not being updated or maintained.  Adobe has replaced them with the "Creative Cloud" or "CC".  So, if you want a current version of "Premier CC", you "rent" it for $20 a month.  For $50 a month, you can rent everything Adobe makes for photogrphers, videographers, designers and graphic artists.
If "upgrade" means "get a cheaper price", no.
The easiest way to buy the DVD version of Elements 13 is to order it from a major retailer like B&H Photo or Amazon.  I've checked and both have it.   The cheapest way to buy it is to wait for holiday season pricing.

  • Adobe Bridge CS3 Default Folder

How do I change the Adobe Bridge CS3 default folder?

I still had no way to change Open With Default. MAybe I should just upgrade Bridge.
While CS3 is not the best version of Bridge and the changing upgrade policy of Adobe (until december you can upgrade to CS6 with 3 versions back, after that it is only possible to upgrade with one version back
But I still don't understand what you are looking for, in the subject line it states default folder but you want to have open the files in PSCS3?
While that should indeed be the default but if that is not the case with you what does your system as default application?
In Bridge preferences you have also file type associations that give you the option to set default application to open with per file type.
And on your Mac you can select a file type in the Finder and choose 'get info'. In this window you also can set open with and apply to all.

  • When I change the default folder to save downloads in the options menu, it later reverts to the default folder even though I have made not changes in options. Any ideas? thanks!

In the Options menu I changed the default download location (folder) to a folder I have on my desktop and saved the changes. But this option reverts to the default folder when I turn on my computer and open FF the next day.

    Thank you for your response.
I do use CCleaner and just ran it. It did not change the download option folder that I had changed from the default so it appears that this is not cause.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again!

  • Premiere Elements 10 & Elements 10 installed in wrong folder(users) how to move to the default folde

Due to the fact that I misunderstood some of the instructions, my 2 programs are installed in the "users" folder instead of the "applications" folder on my MAC. OS 10.7.4 Is it possible to MOVE/DRAG these applications into the correct default folder(applications)? If so, is there a safe procedure for doing so. I have installed the programs but have not launched them as yet. Any advice would be appreciated.

You should uninstall the software, and then reinstall in the correct folder. Attempts to move the folder will not work, and might mess up the system.

Could anyone please tell me the steps to change the folder

You change the generate folder and filename in the first field on the first page of the wizard. It must be a folder on your hard disk.
You change the publish folder in the last page of the wizard. Anywhere you like.

  • How to Change Outlook Default Folder for Insert-Attachment and Save Email/Attachemnt while Outlook is open (VBA)

    Hello,
    Office 2010 32bit, VBA
Is it possible to programmatically do the above while Outlook is running?  If so, I'm hoping to make that change from a Word macro.
I tried tinkering with the reg key and that doesn't work because it appears Outlook only respects it at startup time. Similary changing Word File-options-location of documents is respected only when Outlook starts.
I'm looking to seamlessly keep Outlook's default folder in sync with Word's default folder as the users change working folders in Word, which they do many times per day (and they chose the folder among a couple of thousand possibilities).
I'm hoping there is a difficult-to-find Outlook object I can manipuate to get to the end result.  IF there is such an Object I have been unable to find it.
    Many thanks!
    Julie

    Hi Julie,
Based on my research, I think outlook object model doesn’t provide the way to change the default folder for insert attachment and save email/attachment.
The way to change it is that we need to modify the registry setting and the outlook app should be restart.
    # How to set the default attachment folder in Outlook

You may create the add-in to custom these actions (e.g. attach attachment, save email)

  • I have transfered my library my library to a NAS drive. How do I stop Itunes from creating the default folder on the local drive?

I've transferred my Itunes Media Library to a NAS drive, and pointed Itunes (using the advanced preferences tab) to the relevant folder on the NAS drive. I have done this to free up disk space on a computer I primarily use for work but which I use both at home and at work. The NAS drive is at home. (To clarify, I am not expecting Itunes to function at work, only at home when access to the NAS drive is available).
Under certain circumstances Itunes will start-up at work and when it does it will create the folder structure for the Itunes Media Library in the default location (on the local drive) instead of looking for the location I have specified (the NAS drive) which it should not be able to find when I am at work and telling me that it can't find it (which would be fine).
How do I stop Itunes from recreating the default folder structure and defaulting the file path to the standard media library location on my local drive? Every time this happens I have to re-point Itunes to the NAS drive location, which often requires me to reconsolicate libraries which is tedious and time consuming. It seems that in the process of one of these consolidations I have lost some of the media files. They are still in the library (ie. visible in the Itunes window) but Itunes can't find the media associated with that file - identifying them with an excamation mark "!".
Any help with this would be appreciated, as I have read several forums and threads, and despite trying several different approaches I have been unable to address the problem, which appears to be exacerbated by the laptop being remote from the NAS drive.

Can I put the ".itl" and other database files on the NAS, and if so where would I put them? I'm thinking that if the library file is only available at home then the ITunes library won't get corrupted at work when it can't find the media, in the event that I accidentally start up itunes eg. while opening an attachment or disc that can be read by Itunes.
iTunes will start up and you will have an empty library.
Can I put the ".itl" and other database files on the NAS, and if so where would I put them?
    Yes.
    Quit iTunes.
Copy the /Music/iTunes/ folder on the NAS.
Move the /iTunes media/ folder currently on the NAS into  the /iTunes/ folder you just copied to the NAS.
Hold Option, launch iTunes, select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the NAS.
You can delete /Music/iTunes/ folder on the internal drive.
If you launch iTunes while NOT comnnected to the NAS, iTunes will recreate the /Music/iTunes/ folder and you will have an empty library.
WHen you are again connected to the NAS, just do step 4 above.
Do you know what the advantages and disadvantages are of having the database files like the ".itl" files stored locally versus on the NAS?
Keeping everyhing together inside the iTunes folder makes it "cleaner" and simpler to manage everything.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

    i'm using iTunes 10 BTW

You are attempting to download the picture to your computer not uploading photo to the website if I am understanding you correctly.

Most of my PDF files are in one location.  I would like to be able to set that location as the default folder in which Acrobat will look when I want to open a file.

You can not reset the default, but you could place a short cut to the folder in the default folder.

I have 3 Canon cameras and I want to be able to use the software that came with each one. However the Canon software install program always loads the software to the same default folder. Is there a way aroound this?

If you're talking about the Camera Utilities (Digital Photo Professional, etc.) you don't actually have to have multiple installs. They are the same software, just make sure you're using the latest version and one installation will work with all of your cameras.

When saving a PDF attachment to an email, I want to change the default folder.  How do I do that?

    Hi brs texas,
Do I understand correctly that you're downloading a PDF that you received in an email? The default save location is a function of the email client, not of Acrobat or the PDF, so steps to change that folder would vary by email client. Please check the documentation for your email.

  • Save for Web default folder in PSE 11

On my Windows 7 system, in PSE 8 when I select Save for Web, it defaults to saving the image in a folder I chose that is separate from the one I used in Open.
(Save and Save As default to the folder I opened the image from, and PSE 11 works the same way even though "Save As to Original Folder" is not checked in Edit | Preferences).
But "Save for Web" also always defaults to the folder the image was opened from, even though I have started it in Admiinistrator mode and changed the destination.
That worked to change the default file type from GIF to JPEG, but had no effect on the save-for-web default destination.
Is there a way to set/change the save-for-web default folder in PSE 11?

That makes sense, but it doesn't work for me in PSE11 (though PSE 8 is OK). I get the same result as yesterday, even after rebooting, which I hoped might clear any cached settings. With or without checking Save As to Original Folder, what happens is this:
    - Save to Web defaults to saving the image file in the source folder;
    - if I change the destination to my Web-images folder, that lasts until I close PSE 11, and not beyond;
    - when I start it up again, Save For Web defaults to the source folder (with or without Save As to Original Folder, and regardless of Run As Administrator.
Looking at the folder   C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11
I see that no files show a change in the last several days, so the setting must be elsewhere, in the registry or in C:\Users\... somewhere.  Hmmm..
