Output power off with emergency stop button

I am using Labview 6.0.2 version, I have a state machine and within that state machine I have sequences, one sequence consist of "Auto" meaning when user press Auto button from the front panel the automated part of the program starts :basically I have alot of sequences within this sequence and using shift register the sequence numbers are passed to the next sequence and sequence number is compared outside the while loop and value defferece keeps my auto sequences running, the question is that I also have an emergency button but within the sequence I have dialog boxes show up for user to do certain things, if the user turn the power on of the device and hits the emergency stop button my sequence is taking precedence over emergen
cy stop so if anyone has any idea how to deal with this let me know. thanks

I can't claim to be an expert, but it sounds to me like you want to
lose that auto sequence and place it in new states in your state
machine. If you have states 0 - 4 in your machine right now, make
states 50 - 55 your auto sequence, having 1 call the next until
returning to the default state.
The drawback is you will have a loop delay between each step of your
now converted sequence.
The benefit is you can do a check of your E-stop after each step.
Hope this helps,
Gc.

    My on-off button rarely works. I can power off with assistive touch. Is there a way to power on without the on-off switch?

    Depending on what you mean by power off.  If you mean putting the phone to Sleep, you can tap on the Home button to bring it back. If you turn it off completely, then the only way to turn it on is to use the physical Power Button.

  • Waking up the Mac from a complete power OFF with WOL not possible, ***

    I was told by AU applecare stuff that ALL Mac cannot be woke up from a complete power OFF. I asked the team at applecare because my mini server won't do a WOL.
    Is this for REAL?
    Can't I do WOL on Macs?
    What a horror! How is this possible  in this day and age? Macs are intel macs now, and it is just a matter of the network card/chip has this build in. A $200 PC can do this ages ago.
    It is huge environmental disaster if we cannot wake the Macs from power off remotely via LAN/WAN, and putting them to sleep when not needed.
    Can someone help brighten up my day by pointing me to some official documentation on this or you real experiences on waking up a Mac with WOL
    from a complete power OFF?

    Maybe necroposting here, but HRMUser is right. Many (most?) modern PCs support WOL from a powered-off (shutdown) state. PCs that support WOL usually have a BIOS setting that allows you to enable/disable it. The network interface itself is powered enough that it will "see" magic WOL packets. I regularly use this feature for PC administration. It's annoying / silly that Macs don't support WOL from power off.

  • Computer froze, had to power off with button, now won't restart

    Can not get computer to restart after a hard power off

    Your computer is restarting.  It's just not getting to the desktop.  Please disregard my previous response to you.
    Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot. If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.   If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.  If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.   If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.  If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."  If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up. Select your language. Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar. Select Disk Utility.   Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid. Click Repair Disk. (If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO) Restart your computer when done.   Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.  Remove any 3rd party ram.  Reinstall Snow Leopard - This will install a "fresh" copy of Snow Leopard without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.   If your computer is still under warranty or you have Apple Care, take full advantage of it by letting tech support deal with your problems.  It's what you're paying them for. Out of warranty - take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Automounting & Power off from XFCE stopped working

    Hello, after the latest xorg update my automounting as well as my shutdown/reboot options from XFCE's logout dialog stopped working. I can't also mount other partitions as non-root user. This is one of the most common problems that appear once in a while and I usually tweak my .xinitrc and/or pam.d files to get functionality back, but this time I have no luck. My display manager is plain XDM. I should mention that if I startx from a tty everything is working properly.

    The problem seems to reappear.  The changelogs for xfce4-session 4.8.2-2 say: "Remove .pkla files; shutdown/suspend/etc should continue to work for people with correct ConsoleKit sessions."
    So I need a consolekit session to be able to shutdown. However if I  start xfce with no displaymanager using 'exec ck-launch-session startxfce4' in my .xinitrc. and check my sessions with 'ck-list-sessions' I get:
    Session2:
    unix-user = '1001'
    realname = '(null)'
    seat = 'Seat1'
    session-type = ''
    active = FALSE
    x11-display = ''
    x11-display-device = ''
    display-device = '/dev/tty2'
    remote-host-name = ''
    is-local = TRUE
    on-since = '2011-11-21T18:13:26.929832Z'
    login-session-id = '2'
    idle-since-hint = '2011-11-21T18:13:58.225846Z'
    Session4:
    unix-user = '1000'
    realname = '(null)'
    seat = 'Seat3'
    session-type = ''
    active = FALSE
    x11-display = ':0'
    x11-display-device = '/dev/tty8'
    display-device = '/dev/tty1'
    remote-host-name = ''
    is-local = FALSE
    on-since = '2011-11-21T18:19:24.067561Z'
    login-session-id = '1'
    That would explain why I can't shutdown, but it makes me wonder how do I get get a valid session. The wiki on consolekit seems to imply that I need a displaymanager, but I rather would not use one. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • How can I turn my phone back on after shutting it off with the lock button not working?

    The lock button on my phone wont work, now, I have the AssistiveTouch on to lock and shut off the phone, however, how would I turn it back on afterwards? Could I just use the home button? I don't want to test it and end up with a shut off phone that cannot be turned on again...

  • My ipod is turning on and off with  the hold button

    Yesterday, my ipod ran out of batteries. I tried to turn it on to charge via a USB cable. It now turns of when the hold button goes into the hold position. Therefore I can't move the wheel. The batteries have been fully charged. Help?

    "It now turns of when the hold button goes into the hold position. Therefore I can't move the wheel."
    That's the whole idea of the hold button. It disables the iPod controls so you won't be able to use the clickwheel.

  • Ending time delay with stop button

    I am trying to create a stop button to control multiple vi's at once. A problem is that my subvi has a time delay. To solve that problem the time delay is divided into multiple time delays so that I can interrupt it with a stop button.I am building off of Al S's example on the forums found here. I tried adding a global variable but it is not working.
    Any ideas? Thank you

  • Why does my Iphone turn off with 20% battery power left

    Hi
    I got my iphone as a gift and so i don't have receit.
    I'm wondering why my Iphone would turn power off with 20% power left.
    I have other apple products  (Ipod 3 and and Ipad 2 ) and i don't find the same issue with my other products.
    Just my Iphone is giving me tha trouble. sometimes i even see i have 40% battery life left and it shut off.
    so i don't know if the % display show up wrongly.
    what would you suggest.

    Charge it all the way up, then let it run all the way down until it shuts off. Repeat this cycle to recalibrate your battery meter.

  • The emergency stop

    Hello,
    I'm using a PCI-7354 motion control board and a UMI-7774  motion interface. I'm trying to implement an emergency stop button. I think i'm not the first one trying to do this, but i'm a little bit confused about how this is implemented in the NI hardware.
    First let me explain how i think an emergency stop should work. It should be a normally closed switch, so if the button is pressed the contact is released (no more electrical connection). If the button is pressed the drive should be disbaled and there should be no more movement. Using a normally closed contact means that the system doesn't work or stops working when the emergency stop button is disconnected or if there is a break in the cable leading to the button. In this way you  make sure that the emergency button is functional before you start moving. I should think this is the standard and most safe way to implement an emergency stop and i know most motor drives have it implemented in this way.
    But now back to the NI motion hardware. I know about the shutdown input and this document :
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/622529A109BAD05E862569EA0060304F?OpenDocument
    Here it says that the shutdown circuit requires a rising edge to be activated. A rising edge looks like a normally open switch which is closed when pressed. This system doesn't work when the button is not connected or the cable is broken. What am I missing here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Youri

    Thank you both for your replies.
    Jochen: I agree with you that there is discussion about what action is taken after the emergency stop button is pressed. This depends largely on the application. But I still think that the way the button is connected to and handled by the motion controller should be in the way i descriped. I've read the threads you mentioned, but they both seem like a lot of work-arounds to me.  In my opinion (and by the knowledge i have on this moment) the shutdown input doesn't respond the way i would like it to do. So i'm wondering how this shutdown input is intended to be used and why there isn't a proper e-stop input on the NI motion controller. These motion controllers are widely used and easy to set up by inexperienced people.  There should be a easy, simple and most of all safe input for an e-stop button. But again, i might be missing something.
     Giridhar: Thanks for the tip. I'm going to look into it.
    Kind regards,
    Youri

  • Wii Power On/Power Off Commands......

    I am wanting to do a simple Wii Power On/Power Off with LavVIEW via Bluetooth.  I have seen several VIs in this forum that provide some pretty complex controls with Bluetooth but haven't seen anything that gives me info on how to power on/power off the Wii console.
    Can anybody help me out with this?

    I just read the whole thread (out of interest) and noticed that the starting post states that the power button is not supported...
    The Wiimote VIs currently can:
    * Read and write LED status
    * Read all buttons (except power button)
    * Read calibrated accelaration data
    * Read up to 4 IR sources
