Over-riding OS Keyboard commands

I am doing a little remedial self training on keyboard commands. I went to F10 to do an overwrite edit and instead got the grey out/window separating action as in the OS.
How can I over-ride this when I am working in FCP and then reconnect the OS commands when not in FCP?
I sure the way to do this is sticking out like a sore thumb someplace but I am missing it.
Thx

Thanks Jim
...but actually that is not the solution. Your post got me sniffing around and the answer lies in the keyboard pref pane. F9 through F12 are assigned to windows management. All you have to do is uncheck the boxes and voila...that freed up FCP to use those keys.
Thanks for pointing me in the pref pane direction.

  • Keyboard command mistake activates unwanted guides over image when moving cursor.

inadvertently i have hit a keyboard command that has given me an unexpected result. When I pass the cursor over an image horizontal, vertical and 45 degree angle guides pop up over various parts of the image. Also paths, anchor points, intersects and alignments are defined in very small text that follows the cursor, especially the pen tool. All of these things flash on and off as I move the cursor around the image. I find this very distracting and want to turn off this feature but I don't know which key I hit to turn it on. Any thoughts?

Cmd(Ctrl)-U is the toggle for Smart Guides.

  • Problem with overwrite and insert keyboard commands

I'm a new user, switching from FCP. I edited one project successfully with no trouble a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm in a second project and having a weird difficulty. Using a pretty new Mac 8 core tower.
The insert and overlay keyboard commands (comma and period keys) don't work. They still work in the old project but not this one. If I start a new sequence and copy my timeline to it, the commands will work for awhile but ONLY with video, not with the audio tracks. Drag and drop works fine but that really slows me down.
The clips I'm using are all the same format (H.264 from Canon 5DII and some still photos) as the first project. Only difference in this project is lots of chroma keying and some resizing of background still photos. Nothing unrendered.
I started a new project just now and imported the problem project into it, started a new sequence, copied old sequence, and I get the same problem. I can drop in video with a keyboard command but not audio. Earlier it was not even doing video. Yesterday when I'd start a new sequence and do the same thing, it would give me video on the keyboard command but then eventually that would stop and it would do nothing. At one point the cursor would move over the width of the clip, as if it had been dropped into the timeline, but then that stopped as well.
I've trashed preferences and that didn't work. I did that according to a procedure I found online. It said open up PP while holding down the Shift and Option keys. I did that twice. Nothing.
To summarize: Keyboard commands for overwrite and insert edit do not work in this project but do in an older project.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Well, thanks to an email from another person who was having the same problem, it's all solved not.
Operator error. Dang. Who knew--in FCP you select a track by clicking on the V or A buttons to the far left. In Premiere Pro you have to make sure BOTH the far left button and the one to the right that says Video 1, Audio 1, etc. are also clicked. They BOTH have to be light gray. In my first project, everything was properly activated but in the next project apparently they were not and that carried over to succeeding projects (even though I didn't change anything...at least consciously).
So all as well now. No glitch, no bug. Just good ol' fashioned operator error. I will wear the dunce hat today.

  • Need "Next Page" keyboard command--Word, Macbook Air

Is there a keyboard command that will take me to the top of the next page in Word 2011 on a MacBook Air?  I can creep up and down the existing page using Fn + right/left arrows.  I can go to the top and bottom of the file using Fn + Command + left/right arrows.  I want to go to the TOP of the next page (Page Down) and googling isn't turning up anything that works.

I sure wish it did!  fn + down arrow only takes me down the existing page, and randomly, not even paragraph-by-paragraph but randomly, when what I want is to have the cursor anywhere on a given page, then use a keyboard shortcut to move it to the top of the next page, and then to the top of the next page:  just going next page, next page, next page.  I'm trying to work on the first assignment in a writing class at the University of Washington and am obsessed with this problem because I'm going to be writing a lot of papers and really need to get around efficiently on this new laptop.  I work on a PC and haven't used a Mac for about 8 years, so it's getting a little crazy over here.

  • "HIde Frame Edges" Keyboard Command

According to the menu, the keyboard command is ^commandH. However, this makes InDesign disappear. Am i reading that first character right (it's over the 6 key?) If so, then you'd have to shift to get it. Anyway, i don't understand. Why didn't they just retain the old commandH? Thanks very much.

    > Except in photoshop it's control command H (to hide pshop) & command H to hide edges, so why don't they match?
I would guess that the Photoshop code, which dates back to Cmd-H for Hide Edges is so firmly entrenched in thousands of lines of legacy code that it would have been an onerous project to make Photoshop follow the Apple edict.
And so the Photoshop team decided to ignore Apple. (This wouldn't be the first time.)
I would guess that the InDesign team has less legacy code to waddle through to change Cmd-H.
But it's an interesting point because it could explain why InDesign's Hide Application command has caused so many problems under Leopard. (Just guessing.)

  • System wide keyboard commands not responding

My mac stops responding to system wide keyboard commands such as the Dashboard, Expose and Spotlight shortcuts. It also does not respond to Command-Tab to switch between applications. Hitting the keys for any of these leads to no response whatsoever.
I have run into this problem several times over the last few months, and the only solution I have found is to restart the computer. Initially, it appeared to be related to the ScreenSaver process crashing. I could look in the System Monitor and see that this process had gone red, when I forced the process to quit, the keyboard commands were restored. More recently, though, this has not been the case, and I have had to restart.
Any guesses what could cause this or suggestions on how to diagnose it? Thanks for any help.

    I'll answer in reverse.
When I've experienced the problem, I have tried other (older style) keyboards, and that did not resolve the problem.
I've never tried creating another user account.
I'll try disabling the screen saver, but part of the problem is that this issue is sufficiently intermittent that it take a while to determine if this has a benefit. I was hoping to find some more systematic way to diagnose what has been happening. Any suggestions along these lines?
Thanks for your help and interest.

  • Problem with Keyboard Commands in CS5

This is driving me up the wall and I seem to be the only one.  Maybe somebody can help?
When I hit B for the brush tool or J for Spot Healing tool (doesn't matter what tool) it will
change to that tool for a couple seconds and then revert back to the tool I was using.
So, basically I can't change tools via keyboard commands.
I have to select the tool from the toolbar pallet.
    And it's driving me nuts.
I have some custom keyboard commands (i.e, H for Healing brush and P for Patch tool)
    and never had any problems.
I have reset all defaults.  I have re-installed over the top.  I have uninstalled and totally
    started from scratch.
Things seemed to work OK after the fresh install.  But once I added the Configurator panel,
the problem seemed to return.  Only thing is, I've been using Configurator for a long time.
Obviously Conviguration version 2 not so long.  But again, I used Configurator 2 wihout this
    issue for some time.
I'm at a loss.  Any ideas?  Hopefully something simple I overlooking?  But right now, working
in Photoshop is a real drag not being able to use keyboard commands.
    Thanks,
    Lance

OK well i guess i'm the only one experienceing this problem.
I should have added that there is also a delay when switching tools
while it desides to reject my request for a new tool and finally reverts back
to the previous one.  but also a delay when i select the tool from the toolbar (via mouse).
CS5 as a whole seems to lag more on my system than CS4.  Nik software plugins definetely
    take longer to apply.
Lightroom 3 (while i'm at it) is also very slow when using the adjustment brush.  brush away
and wait 2-4 seconds for anything to appear.
made sure my video card was up-to-date, but still no improvement in performance.

  • Moving clip to current time indicator through keyboard command?

I have a clip in my timeline that I am trying to move to the current time indicator using a keyboard command. In after effects, I would just use the "[" button to do this. For some reason, in Adobe Premiere, this does not work. Does anybody know a fix for this?

You don't need to hover the mouse over, or click, the Step Forward / Step Back buttons. Just use the wheel anywhere within the red block in the following image. Note also that you can scrub through the timeline by click-dragging across the CTI box (yellow block), or click-dragging across the Shuttle (green block).
If you click within the Monitor image so that the handles display (see red blocks below) then you can use the wheel anywhere within the Monitor pane to move the CTI back and forth. Again no clicking necessary.
    Cheers,
    Neale

  • De-activating keyboard command for iTunes

I want to use control-option-space for another program.
Currently it causes iTunes to open. To disable this through the Keyboard Prefs panel I need to know the exact menu item name, but it does not appear in iTunes's menu so I cannot do that.

We're just users here.  Send feedback -- including feature requests -- to Apple via "Aperture→Provide Aperture Feedback".
There is no keyboard command.  Aperture uses the mouse "scroll" command.  You may turn up a utility which allows you to map the mouse commands to keyboard shortcuts.
You might also search the forum for posts on resizing Brushes with the Intuos4 tablet.  There may be a work-around which you can apply to your trackball.

  • Data Migration from 11i to R12 Global - Open POs,lines, receipts & on hand upload, Is it possible to do the onhand qty upload with over riding of all receipts which uploaded against Open PO lines?

    Hi Friends,
We are in a phase of data migration from 11i to R12
I was discussed with client & they wants extraction of all open POs which was generated after 01 Jan 2014 to till date in 11i.
Condition for open POs is PO qty-received qty=>0
critical Example for open PO is :PO no: 10 has 4 lines, 3lines full qty has been received & for 1 line partial qty(say 50 out of 100) received.
in this case he wants in R12 uploading as PO no:10 should entered as open PO with all 4lines & 3 lines complete receipt should be done, for 4th line partial qty i.e 50 should be received.
the question is if we upload on hand qty first, then open POs & receipts, it will increase the onhand qty in new system(mismatch of on hand qty's 11i to R12)
Is it possible to do the onhand qty upload with over riding of all receipts which uploaded against Open PO lines.
    Or Please advice best solution.
    Thanks & Regards
    Giri

  • Screen Sharing and Keyboard Commands

Wow! I just discovered screen sharing on Leopard! I knew I could share across Ichat but didn't realise you could share on your own home network. It works brilliantly but i have a question.
How do you use keyboard commands whilst sharing?
For example I want to use quicksilver on the computer I'm controlling from my laptop of course quicksilver becomes active on laptop not the machine I'm controlling.
In other words how do i direct all keyboard entry to the other machine?

    Sorry,
but taking a more accurate look to the posts I find the response: in the "Account", at the login option, is avaiable "Show keyboard menu at login" (something similar, my OS is in Italian).
    Thanks anyway!!

  • What is the keyboard command to wake from sleep?

Im trying to remotely wake my mac from sleep from my iPad (Actions app) and wonder if there is a keyboard command to wake from sleep

Normally, you can press any button (space bar is good) or click the trackpad/mouse to wake a machine from sleep. For this app (which I haven't used), you might want to go to System Preferences > Energy Saver, and  check the box 'Wake for network access.'

  • Bought a used Mac Mini and can't get past security password Seller refuses to answer emails. is there a keyboard command to take it back to factory settings or do I need to buy a Disc set and OS???

bought a used Mac Mini and can't get past security password Seller refuses to answer emails. is there a keyboard command to take it back to factory settings or do I need to buy a Disc set and OS???

You can bypass the password and wipe the drive and return to the original facory installation if the seller included the orginal install DVDs with the Mac mini. If not you will need a retail version of Mac OS X.  To boot from the Install DVD restart the mini, immediately slip in the DVD and press and hold the C key.

  • InDesign CS4 keyboard commands not available when swatch palette in open

Has anyone else been experiencing this? When I have my swatch palette open in CS4 on Windows XP, I cannot use even the most basic keyboard commands and shortcuts. Once the palette has been closed, keyboard commands return. I've encountered this on more than one computer.
    Any thoughts?
    Diane

If you're using the KBSC to get to the Swatches panel you may have inadvertently entered the Tint field, in which you can type a number. If you hit Tab in this field you get a thin black line outlinining the panels swatches when see this you can use the arrow keys to navigate the swatches, or use a key to go to the name of swatch, so I could type C and it goes to the first swatch starting with a "C".
With the Swatches panel open, try hitting Esc and then try your KBSC.

  • Indesign CS6 not picking up keyboard commands or any type

I recently downloaded the CS6 creative package.
I cannot seem to type anything into Indesign documents, or perform any Keyboard Commands.
I'm on a Mac and have never had this problem before, it seems as if it's just not connecting to my keyboard.

    Thank you
I rebooted the system in safe and it seems to have fixed itself, the keyboard shortcuts and all type is now working.
    Thanks again!
