Overheating while watching dvd

hi,
i have a problem with overheating of my macbook while watching dvd. after a little while of watching, it doesn't react on anything..i can't change the volume, i can't do anything, it doesn't matter if it is by clicking on trackpad or by apple remote, but dvd film is still playing without break.i always have to push the power button for a while and turn it off and then on when i want to do something else. i have read about the rear vent, but where it is?? I would like to check, if some little plastic is not stucked there. please tell me somebody where is it exactly.macbook is still very warm. i always try not to charge a battery while watching. but it is still the same.

That should not happen - I can play DVDs without incident. You can open the Activity Monitor to see if a LOT of CPU is being used for some reason (or a lot of RAM). In the end you should take it in to Apple Service.
On another note - if you watch a lot of YouTube, the Flash video is a challenge to MacBook's little video chip and it does make the fan run and it gets hot, but that is the only bottleneck.

  • Problems while watching Dvds

    Hi
    I have bought a 32 Hl833 10 days ago
-- everything is alright while watching the regular Tv channels
-- the problems is when I am watching Dvd movies on my Dvd device
-- Dvd device is connected with TV with Scart
(P.S., I am from the eastern Europe)
-- now, the trick is that for unknown reason, while I am watching Dvd device, my Tv is constantly "losing the contact" with device, or like he is trying to identify the device over and over again
-- in reality it means that I am watching a movie, and the Tv is "refreshing" the connection with Dvd device like every 30-120 seconds
-- to describe it better, it feels like:
= you are on the channel for Dvd (output channel 1 or however it is called) and watching a movie, and every 30-60 seconds you get the black screen (the same like when you are switching between channels with your remote controller)
-- so, you know the feeling when you are on Channel 2 and then you click Channel 3 on your remote, and then from the channel 2 you will see the black screen for a few moments and after that you will be redirected to a channel 3
-- and on the top of the screen, you will see the Info, like: Channel 3 in the left top corner and the clock in the right top corner
-- so, while I am on the Dvd channel, it basically feels like the TV is constantly switching channels (without me doing that)
-- but that switching feels like constantly refreshing the same channel over and over again
-- and while watching a movie, it is extremely dumb and annoying
-- you are watching it, and every 30 seconds, you lose the picture for 1-2 seconds, you see the black screen, and then you are on your channel again, and you constantly see the info (number of channel, clock and date on top of the screen)
** It never happens while watching the regular Tv channels
-- so, there is a some problem in connection/compatibility of Dvd device and my Tv, I guess
-- also, sometimes it happens that this problem doesn't happen for 90-120 Minutes at all (or once in the whole movie), and on the other days (this evening again), you get this problem every 30 seconds and it is basically impossible to watch the Dvd
-- I tried to turn off both my Tv, Dvd device, checked all (Scart) connections 20 times
    -- problems is still here
** also, if it happens, it seems that my remote controllers for a Dvd device and a Tv controller have very similar codes
-- for example, I press the Up button on Dvd remote controller, and my Tv suddenly switches to a channel 7 on my Tv :/
-- so, Up button on Dvd device has the same meaning/code as the button for channel 7 on my Tv :/
Anyway, sorry for the long post
I hope that someone will have some good idea
    Thanks in advance

Oh, sorry, I didn't know that this is only for Us models
Anyway, I asked some friends of mine for the advice, and they advised my to try with a new scart cable
I have bought a brand new cable, and it seems that it works good now
(Even though on the old TV, even the old cable was "good", but nevermind)
Anyway, I think I have solved the problem and it seems that the problem was connected with the cable and not the Tv
    Thanks anyway

  • Vertical green lines while watching DVD on M40-148

When I try to watch video or DVD on my new laptop there is several vertical green dotted lines across the screen.
Why is that? And how do I get rid of them?

    Hello guys
It is very strange issue. A friend of mine has also M40 and I have tested playing DVD films and everything works fine. It is very strange that you see those lines just while DVD player runs. Something like that should not happen.
In my opinion you should reinstall the unit with recovery DVD and dont make any installation. Immediately after operating system installation try to watch DVD using preinstalled DVD player. If the problem persist contact service partner and let them check the unit. The unit is pretty new and warranty is still valid.
As far as I know the recovery image is tested and something like that should not happen.
    Good luck!

  • RE: External speakers don't work while watching DVD on MacBook

Hello, I have a late 2006 white 13-inch MacBook. I have been trying to use an Altec Lansing external speaker while watching a DVD movie on my Mac, in order to increase and improve the sound, but when I plug the speaker cable into the headphones jack on my Mac, no sound comes out of the speaker. The speaker works fine when I plug it into the same jack to listen to music in my iTunes library, so I know the problem isn't with the speaker per se.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? I have tried to play around with the Sound on System Preferences and with the Audio MIDI setup but I'm not sure which setting is at fault. Thanks very much.

Hi, thanks for your response. When I got into Preferences>Disk Setup, under Audio Output, "System Sound Output" is selected (there are no other options listed). Also, "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression" is checked.

  • Screen Sleeps while watching DVD or Stream

    Hello
I have a problem with my PowerBook. I hate the energy saver function. When I use normal programs everything is o.k. and when their is no input it sleeps after a couple of minuten.
The problem is that while I watching an DVD or an Interstream my energy Saving Options put my screen to black because their is no input or mouse moving.
Is their a way to prevent the screen to go to black without switching off the engergy saving options while watching a DVD or Stream??

Disable all sleep functions. IMHO, they're overrated.

  • How to put MacBook Pro display to sleep while watching DVD on 2nd Display

Not sure if this is answered elsewhere, but I have a MacBook Pro with a second larger display attached thru DVI. As I watch DVDs on the external display, I would like to darken out the MacBook Pro screen so it is not distracting while watching the movie. I seemingly can't put only the MacBook display to sleep - both displays goto sleep. I can't close the MacBook either. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Hold the '"Darker" key down until the screen is ghostly.

  • All Player are crashing while watching DVDs

    Hi,
I have got a very strange Problem. When I want to watch a commercial DVD, vlc and mplayer are crashing in the middle of the film, or the film won't start at all. Sometimes I can watch the the first 10 min, and sometimes nothing. The same problem occurs in WinXP with PowerDVD while running in VirtualBox. So it is no problem with libdvdcss. I think that there is a problem with the driver for the DVD-Drive in Arch, because I have got no problems in Ubuntu. What fault could it be? I cannot localize that strange problem, and I don't want to go back to Ubuntu
    thanks
    dante
PS: Im using a Samsung Q35 with SATA drives
PPS: I have got the solution! There is a problem with "udftools" for using and burning DVD-Ram. In my case you have to unload the packet writing device from dvd drive.
    pktsetup -d dev_name

  • My pc freezes while watching dvd or listening to music

Hi, I have a K8T Neo-FIS2R with 512 mb RAM 400 MHZ  and an Athlon 64 3200+. Every time when I watch a dvd or listen to a musid-cd, so not form my hard disk, the video and sound freezes for about 1-2 seconds. Do you guys have any idea what could be causing this?

Are you using WMP? I have a similar-ish issue, where if I play mp3's from my hard disks, and skip forward and click next a couple of times, WMP can lock-up for a few secs. In task manager I see it stick on 98% while it does this. Playing music from CD etc works fine, just from hard drives (SATA/IDE all the same). But if I use winamp I dont get this annoyance.
Using latest drivers from realtek, and everything else for this mobo. No other programs or applications running at the same time.

  • Imac overheating while watching videos

Recently i purchased a late 2011 IMac with a 21.5inch screen, 4gb of ram, 2.7ghz intel i5 proccessor. I use my imac really often for browsing webs, videos, etc.
I realized it often overheated at the top edge of the screen(above the camera) when i was watching videos. I thought if i continued watching videos it would get too overheated so i would put it to sleep and let it cool down b4 using it again and it get quite annoying. If any1 has any suggestions or tips with this please answer this question it will be gladly appreciated. Is their anyway to stop the imac from getting overheated so easily?

The fan is speeding up to cool the GPU. The GPU (graphic's chip) heats up because video's and game's work the GPU much harder than normal desktop activities.
When was the last time you checked and cleaned the air intake grill on the bottom of your iMac?
I shutdown (stopping the fans), disconnect the power and vigorously vacuum out the bottom grill work on my Mac's a couple of times a year to keep them running cool.

  • Movie freezes while watching dvd

I have made a 50 min. movie and when I go to watch it the screen will freeze up (or I get the pixel blocks that are scrambled). This will happen at anytime during the movie. What is causing this? On some dvd players it will work just fine, then on others it will freeze half way thru, still others it will work just fine one time and freeze the next. Very annoying since I have given them away as gifts and now my movie is freezing up on them! Any thoughts?

+using Verbatim disk and I had the same problem. But burned on 4x reduced the problem and 2x eliminated the problem.+
    *Further support for this:*
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his latest book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."
Although, I burn Verbatim at 4X and have no problems.

  • Satellite Pro A300D - Error message while watching DVDs

    Hi There
I have a problem with my satellite Pro A300-140 running Vista 32-bit OS
Every time I try and watch a DVD I get an error message " Unable to output the video to an external device. Please check the external output setting after ending the application "-I am not trying to connect to anything - I just want to watch a movie !
Any ideas - I did read this was a known problem but I can't re-find the information ?
    Thanks

    Hi
You should try the new Realtek sound driver from the Realtek page:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/
Furthermore I recommend updating the Toshiba DVD player. It's placed on Toshiba European driver page.
Just one tip; Im using the VLC player. Its free software and very nice
It plays almost all video and audio formats google for VLC player!

Hi, guys for some reason my computer keeps slowing down.. like when I watch youtube videos in full screens after 10mins, it starts to slow down but the audio is fine and everytime I try to drag the browser around its really slow.

    Thanks
    This question was solved.

It still would have been nice to try the fan to make sure heat was not the issue but my second solution would be to update your bios and video driver. If you want me to find it for you, post the operating system and 32/64 bit?
If you are using window 7 64 bit:

  • Screensaver starts while watching a DVD!

Is there any way to stop the screensaver activating while watching a DVD in DVD Player... besides disabling the screensaver altogether?
I wouldn't normally use a screensaver at all, but my Mac MIni is connected to a plasma TV, and I just want to make sure I don't get any burned in images if I accidentally left it on for a while.

    Virgule wrote:
I do not know a solution to the DVD Player issue but I may have a workaround for you.
Disable screen saver altogether and use Energy Saver's "Put the display(s) to sleep..." instead.
It will have the side effect of saving on your power bills
The last time I checked (on Tiger) this doesn't work very well for Plasma TVs (the screen goes to sleep fine, but doesn't wake up), but I'll give it another go.

  • DVD drive VERY LOUD while watching movies

Maybe it's because I'm used to laptop parts (my other two macs are a MBP and a mini), but it seems to me the Mac Pro I just bought is extremely loud when watching DVDs. I realise the fans have to spin up to make the disc spin, but I don't ever recall hearing that much noise from them. It's certainly louder than the whole computer is running 4 SETI units at once...

The loud noise you are experiencing is because of the reason that the "stock" Sony DW-D150A has a extremely slow read time- as compared to the Poineer DVR111D. The Sony's read time is almost 2 1/2 times slower that the Pioneers.
This noise problem can be solved 3 ways.
1-There is a Firmware flash available that converts the Sony drive to an NEC drive- since they are essencially the same stock drive- just with different firmware. This article explains how to do this:
    http://www.hardmac.com/articles/62/page1/
There is more indepth information on this, and on the Mac Pro overall here:http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/intel/macpro/
2-Replace the "stock" Sony Drive with a Pioneer DVR-111D. They cost around $35-50 @ most places.
3- This is the option that I have done...Install a Pioneer DVR-111D in the second optical drive bay ( making sure that you properly set the Slave/Master jumper cables on each drive-Pioneer DVR-111D Master..Sony DW-D150A to slave). Use the Sony as a second drive to write to only, and then use the Pioneer as the primary drive to read and write to.
This did solve my noisr problems...Hope it helps you..

  • Can I have my mac in stop while watching a home video which is on my iMac's hard drive?

I have had a 1st gen ATV long time ago.
It came with a hard disk where I was storaging a bunch of videos I ripped from my dvd for my kids.
I know the new gens now don't have a HD but get the films from the mac's drive in streaming.
My question is: does the mac HAS to be completed turned on? Or can it work while in stop? It would be annoying to have it turned on in the same room while watching TV.
Secon question: can the ATV access the itunes library of a user which is not the one selected on the mac at that very moment?
    Thank you
    G

    - The Mac has to be on and running iTunes in order to be accessible for ATV.
    - If the other computer has been setup with the same home sharing ID then both can be accessed. Otherwise, you would need to switch over to the other ID. The answer above would apply here too.
