OWB in restricted mode issues.. anyone running successfully?

We are attempting to run OWB while our database is in restricted mode to allow us to do our updates while restricting other activity but we are running into what seems to be connection issues with the design and control centers. We have added (UR=A) to the tnsnames file and can connect from sqlplus as our design center owner, but I am wondering if some similiar modification is needed within an owb configuration as I know a lot of owb connections are set up using host:port:service and am not sure if somehow that needs a change as well to allow the connection or if that will pick up the change in the tnsnames as well. Anyone have any experience or success with running owb in restricted mode.
Thanks,
Rich

I can't believe that no one has ever tried this before as it seems like something that would be relatively common. Anyone have any experience with this combination at all regardless of success or failure?

I can't seem to get my iMac (late 2009 model) into automatic sleep mode.  If I manually put it into sleep I don't have any issues.
I used to solve the issue by running "PleaseSleep" application but that doesn't work anymore since Lion. I now want to fix the underlying problem.
I'm not running any weird background processes and in my energy saver settings I've tagged "put the hard disk to sleep when possible:, "allow power button to put computer to sleep" and "automatically reduce brigthness". All pretty standard.
Is there anyone who can give me some pointers ?

Today I solved the same problem for my iMac running Snow Leopard. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3008791#15947706. The method may help you, too.
For me it was the DynDNS Updater preventing my iMac from automatically entering sleep mode.
To my knowledge the cause of this sleep problem can only be a peripheral device or a process. So I suggest to first unplug all peripherals and test whether that's the cause. If not, I suggest to terminate one process after another and to test automatic entering of sleep mode after each. Start with user processes; continue with system process if necessary.
At least that's the way I found the offending process. Fortunately, I was able to change the configuration of that process to allow again automatic entering of sleep mode.
    Good luck!

Are there any ventilation issues with running a macbook air in clamshell mode?

    ...that makes sense to me.
but, why do so many MBA users (on this forum and others) claim that ventilation occurs through the keyboard?  Is this claim based on an old macbook design?
for example, here's a related discussion (although fairly old):

A common misconception of unknown origin. The intake and the exhaust for the cooling fan on the 13" MB and MBP are both located on the rear slot at the base of the hinge. In fact, you can actually see the divider that separates the intake flow from the output flow. If it were through the keyboard crevices, then an awful lot of overheats would result from people using impermeable keyboard covers, as well as Apple's warranty department would be flipping out over the Apple store carrying such covers. iSkin ProTouch FX Keyboard Cover for all MacBooks - Black Printed Keys on White - Apple Store (U.S.)

once again, I've tried a few of these keyboard covers. the Moshi keyboard cover is the ONLY one I can recommend. the others are too thick or change the keyboard experience too much.

Re: Is it safe to use MBP with screen lid closed? Leave charge on always?
    1. Closing the cover will cause more heat. This is not because of covering the keyboard very much (though it does help some heat be retained). It's mainly because of the shape of the hinge and the fact when closed it covers up the back vent a lot more. For the best cooling, it is best to have the screen open. Just run it as a dual monitor, but make the external the Primary monitor, and if you don't want to use the built in, just turn its backlight off and don't use it.
    2. The thing you plug into the wall is not a battery charger. The actual "charger" is built into the computer. It knows when to charge and when not to. If the little light on the power plug is amber, then its charging your battery. When its green, its just powering the laptop and NOT charging your battery at all.

Re: Is it safe to use MBP with screen lid closed? Leave charge on always?
I'd leave the lid open, at least partially...yes it may be fine not doing that, but you are making heat dissipate worse, of course could even theoretically hurt the screen.
As for the battery...well there's really only two choices, have it plugged in or not. As others mentioned, you can't overcharge the battery. It can be damaged a bit from heat, but of course the number one thing that's going to damage it is discharging it...so it's a no brainer-use it plugged in whenever possible, and try to charge it whenever possible when it's not plugged in.

Nope. Apple would disagree with you on that one. Any "closure", which is, when compared to the amount of CFM, is insignificant. In fact, the opening size remains the same. it is only deflected at a slight angle when the lid is closed. Tilt your MBP and see. As well, shutting down the display lowers the heat being generated, even in the lower case. As I said, if it were a problem, Apple would not be selling stands designed to operate your unit in the closed position as the original poster of this thread proposes to do.

anyone had success. This is one of my "must have" applications
    thanks for your help

I just started playing Warcraft quite a bit on my MBP 2008 15". I customized my MBP pretty nice with 4GB RAM, etc.
I have generally had no problems. In fact, my MBP performs better than the rather nicely spec'd PC I used to run Warcraft on. I can set the Warcraft video settings pretty high and still get at least decent framerates. Crowded cities the FR goes down to maybe around 20 which is no biggie - where you want your FR's good is in instances/raids. My FR's in those go way up to 50-70...smooth, even with effect settings pretty high and max resolution on my external monitor I'm running the game on.
My MBP will indeed get hot, fans whir, etc. Especially in cities. I ordered one of those Zephr's or whatever their called - a fan/heatsink built for MBP's to sit on to keep them a bit cooler. That should arrive soon.
In the meantime I've been propping up my MPB off the desk service so that it gets plenty of air circulation underneath it...that seems to help with the heat actually quite a bit.

when downloading the trial, has anyone run into download issues?

I remembered we have weird permission issues at work. Somewhere between my Home Windows 8 machine(horrible permissions issues with network), my home mac, email and my work computer, some permission got out of whack. The workaround for this was copying the file to my desktop, back to the exact same spot on the network. This resolved all issues.

  • Battlefield 1942 Anthology issues... anyone run into same issues???

Alright peep's. It's that time when I look for a little insight.
I've got a stackload of PC games I said I was going to knock out when I had time. The issue I'm having is regarding Battlefield 1942. I got the boxset with all the expansions a few months back. I installed it and it went through properly. I configure the game to run with everything turned on and maxxed out, it begins to load. The issue I have then is when I try and select a spawning point, the game just locks up where I need to do a hard reset. I've got the latest update preinstalled even tried bringing down the resolution. The game actually worked once and was playable @ 1024 x 768 for about 8 minutes, then the game locked up again. I tried factory defaults and got no where. I recall reading somewhere else that some older games have issues with SLi. I just can't find that article with games listed. Is anyone running BF 1942 or has it installed without any issues with an SLi rig??? Any insight will be appreciated. I'd like to play a former game of the year on my PC and knock it out amongst my "Games to finish" list.
BTW, since I couldn't get that game to run I installed Half-Life 2. Sick friggin' game. Awesome. Knocked it out in four nights. I think I'll get the expansion when it comes out in May. I'm now playing Star Wars: Republic Commando. Not bad for a FPS but I've played better.

    Two things:
1- I understand that this is a HARDWARE based messageboard. All other software and games work A-O-K. This is an exception so it would point to some sort of possible HARDWARE conflict with older SOFTWARE now, huh???
2- Thermaltake 680w with SLi connectors.
Realistcally, I'm not trying to be a smart a$$. I brought it up here because I know CoD is a popular game that many have gone through it like water. I posted because I've seen others with driver issues, software and/or OS conflicts, uncertainities, etc., and I laid out some wisdom and advice. Think I'm lying? Try reading a few boards regarding the K8N Diamond Plus, Sound Blaster XFi, video card issues, RAM questions, heck even overclocking. I'm still leaving feedback on EVGA's messageboard and I don't even own their motherboard anymore.
All in all, I'm looking for help and a solution just like everyone else. And if you don't think that me being adult enough to ask for help then please just don't post any bulletins or feedback since I guess you get things to run flawlessly and you need no help whatsoever.
And to others who actually made a positive contribution, thank you genuinely.

I'm likely buying the home/student version. Is anyone having success with it?

I had Office 2004.  Did not do a clean install of Lion but upgraded from Snow Leopard.  Found out immediately that I had to go with Office 2011.  Installed it afterwards.  This was with an iMac, by the way.  Later, with the MBP, installed Office 2011 first and then upgraded.  Went much smoother.

PS: I do realize this is not a Cisco supported OS, but I would like to try it before falling back to RHEL

Editing /etc/redhat-release should allow WCS to start.  I run ours on CentOS 5 and I had to make this change.
Just comment out the CentOS line and add the Red Hat line below.  You will probably need to be root to do this and
it may require a restart.  Also after running updates for CentOS I have notice that the file usually changes back
and WCS does not start again.  I keep a copy of the file on the server desktop and copy it over after the updates.
I have not notice any issue with running it on CentOS, just thought I would throw that out there.
    Cheers!

  • Database Started In Restricted Mode...

    Dear Exports,
We are using Oracle 10gR2 on Windows server 2008. My database size is approximately 2tb. Now we are going to setup Dataguard for our primary. We started the database with the changer parameters for dataguard and create spfile from pfile. And started the database with Spfile. But after some time i noticed that the database started automatically in Restricted mode. As in our database Previously dataguard was configured, due to the some problem that setup is not working and the logs are not applied in Standby server. I thought may be for this reason database going to restricted mode automatically so i set the log_archive_dest_state_2='DEFFER' and Now I scanned the whore alert.log file and found the same situation of restricted is happening from Jan 2010. Please Suggest some solution how i can over come the problem.

could you please help me on this.
    Thanks with Regards,

    Muthu,
This issue usually occurs when the AM.class file is not available at the given location. Try to find out on the server whether this
    tflsm.oracle.apps.po.per.server.TflsmAM exists.
If still the problem persists then go for redeployement by deleting the existing one.
    Regards,

  • Hard Drive dead? - Failed to Issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts.

Hello, i think my 13" 2.53Ghz Unibody (mid2009) MBP's hard drive has had it's last spin. I was using it normally in bootcamp, when windows7 froze, so I rebooted holding the power button....windows wouldnt start any more...ok, so i tried to boot into OSX...stuck at the loading screen with the apple.
Went into verbose mode and it stops at "Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing..." Google says this has to do with the hard drive.
Did a extensive hardware test (boot + D), all OK, booted from install disk and tried to run disk utility, but it crashed when trying to locate the drives (didn't even list the drive on the right pane). Single User mode wont load either, will give the same COM RESET message. I am literally out of options here.
Is there something i can do to either fix this or verify 100% that my hard disk is truly dead?
I have a backup in timemachine so the data is ok, but the timing couldnt be worse, i have no time to fix this now and needed a working laptop, highly frustrating.
    thanks for any tips

    Welcome to the Apple Forums!
Your HDD is probably dead, since the error doesn't appear to indicate something wrong with the motherboard. Just buy a new 2.5" HDD. I don't know about prices in Brazil, but here in the US, a 1TB drive runs for around US$100. Also, check on eBay for people who upgraded their drive and are selling their Apple drive. Some will ship to Brazil, and you can score those for $50-100.
I hope you backed up your hard drive. If not, you'll have to do the whole reinstallation process.

Note: I have couple of ETLs developed in 2005 using same logic and upgraded to 2012, working perfectly.
    I am getting Error Message:

    Hi,
Yes you are right. At one sever where I was getting error, DateTime was in USA format and Where It was running successfully was in AUS format.
I changed from USA to AUS and I did another changes:
    Data Source Mode: SQL
    Command
    EXEC  [DBO].[SP_TEST]
    @FROMDATETIME = ?,
    @TODATETIME = ?
    and It is working fine.

  • Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing...

Just in case anyone else has this problem, and wants to claw their eyes out.
I upgraded the Hard Disk in my MacBook Pro about four days ago (the new MBP, summer 2009 with SD card). I installed a Hitachi Travelstar 7K320. It worked awesome for about four days, until I went to run the EFI Firmware Update this morning.
My machine stopped booting. I held Command-V to get the verbose boot output, and eventually got the message: Failed to issue COM RESET successfully after 3 attempts. Failing... - which is where the boot halted.
I removed the Hitachi and restored the stock drive, and the laptop now booted fine. I think it's something Apple will have to look into.

I believe posting relevant facts is productive, & a very relevant fact here is that you are trying to use a drive with an interface (SATA-II) that Apple does not currently support in its laptops.
SATA-I controllers are supposed to be compatible with SATA-II drives, but many of them are not. The problem is how some controllers implement auto negotiation, which is supposed to tell the drive to fall back to SATA-1 speeds with the slower controllers. Some SATA-II drives have a jumper to force the slower speed if auto negotiation doesn't work; some do not.
How this compatibility problem came about, & why the jumper is required, is complicated but the short version is that at least four different specification bodies had some responsibility in producing SATA specifications, & not all controllers were designed to the same standards. This includes not just the controllers Apple has been using but those in many PC's as well.
So I agree that Apple dropped the ball, but not necessarily the way you might think: it should have made it very clear that the firmware update implemented an unsupported interface speed, that it might cause problems, & (most importantly) provided a reversion strategy to the former firmware if it did.
Hopefully, Apple will take another 'swing' at this & either provide that reversion strategy or a new update that at least allows the controller to work more reliably with the faster interface. But until then, unless your drive has the jumper, my previous suggestion is probably the best you can do.
BTW, none of the current mechanical drives available for laptops can saturate a SATA-1 bus except for brief bursts from the drive's buffer, so the real loss in performance of running a single SATA-II drive at SATA-1 speeds is almost negligible, something you might notice in a benchmark but not in real-world use.
