OWB - OEM issue?

OWB - OEM issue?
We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.1.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.1.31 (Win XP). The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.3.0). OWB is installed on Linux.
I find OEM (10.2.0.0.0 with oracle database ver 10.2.0.0.0) part of OWB program folder. As I start OEM, I creted the database connection in OEM explorer. I tried to loggin to created database connection.
I got “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
It was working all day in OWB/Sqlplus before starting OEM. I noticed OEM changed my tnsnames.ora file in OWbhome\network\admin directory using timestamp.
I came out of OEM session. All my logins via OWB/SQLpus/SQL developer results in “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
I checked via tnsping on command window, which results in “ORA-12541: TNS:no listener” error.
I restored my tnsnames.ora from backup, all are working except OEM.
Did anyone use OEM with OWB?
Any idea, what is going on ?
Thanks in advance.
RI

Hi,
over the connection goes not only the sql statements for connecting, also much auditing and logging informations goes from one machine to the other. So development and database should be as near as possible for better speed.
Perhaps working direct on the server will increase the speed?

Looks like the 'emctl' you running is for iAS not Oracle Database. Application Server EM doesn't have dbconsole.
    Do

Make sure your ORACLE_HOME point to Oracle Database Installation and in your $PATH, Oracle database installation $ORACLE_HOME/bin is in preceding position not Application Server.

  • OWB Installation issue: oracle.ide.ExitNowAllowedException

    Hi experts,
I'm facing to a problem during the installation process: I'm using a Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.4 with the Oracle Database 11gR2.
I've unlocked and changed the password to the OWBSYS user, I start the installation following this tutorial

but after the step "Repository Assistant Summary" (step 14 in the tutorial), the one before starting the real installation, I face this error:
"+The Warehouse Builder workspace owner installation failed on user OWBSYS.+

Did anybody faced with the same issue?

    Hi ,
Can you use the Repository Assistance directly instead of Start > Programs > {your Oracle - OWB11gR1clientHome} > Warehouse Builder > Design Center --->Workspace Management ?
You can access Repository Assistance by Start > Programs > {your Oracle - OWB11gR1clientHome} > Warehouse Builder >Administration >Repository Assistance
You can also run the reposinst.bat script located at <OWB_HOME>\owb\bin\win32 to invoke Repository Assistance
Then follow the steps mentioned in the tutorial .
    Thanks,

  • OWB Performance issue (mapping execution always takes min 60 sec)

    Hi All,
any owb mapping we execute in one of our environment , it seems the execution hangs for some time before it build the Attempting to create native operator 'class.RuntimePlatform.0.NativeExecution.PLSQL' statement. The log file shows a constant difference of 30 sec. before executing the <map>.main() function. the data extraction is very low some thing like 10-1000 records
Action taken : increase the SGA pool size to allow more resource. at the DB level
    changed the -Xms64M -Xmx256M to -Xms335M -Xmx440M.
    But no help
Extraction from the owb log is as follows.

Kindly note the difference of 30 sec between create native operator to actual execution of PLSQL code.
The same set of mapping is working fine(5-15secs) in our Dev env. but is taking additional time (kind of 1-3 mins ) in Test env. and the execution of mapping does not go in parallel mode(Is this an expected behaviour ?) and if we have 10 seperate excution of the mapping , it takes 30mins to complete in TEST env. compare to 3mins in DEV env.
The noticible difference between these two env. is
These mapping been created using 10.1.0.2.0 client and deployed on 10.1.0.1.0 repository. in DEV env.
but the TEST Env. uses 10.1.0.4.0 repository.
When check the audit browser .. Can see the total elapse time is 61sec but the actual mapping exec time is only 1 sec.
Is there any configuration settings which cause this delay.
Any pointers on this will be of great help.
    Regards,

I am having exactly the same issue as you have described here. i.e. my mappings are taking some time to initialize before they run. Did you or anyone find a solution to this problem?

  • OEM issue with RMAN

    Hil,
    OEM made RMAN work strangely.
In OEM, after I set some configuration in the "Backup Settings", I found that "Tape Drives" filed is automatically filled with the value: "1". I tested the issue on may machines and the result was the same.
    Steps to generate the issue:
    1. Login to the Database Control EM as SYS
    2. Follow the following links:
Maintenace Tab -> Backup Settings -> Backup Set
    3. Set "Maximum Backup Piece (File) Size" to 4 GB
    4. Click on "Policy" link
    5. Mark the checkbox "Automatically Backup Controlfile ..."
    6. Set "Retain backups that are necessary for a recovery .." to 2 Days
    7. Click on "OK" button
Now the settings should be saved. Click again on "Backup Settings", you will see that "Tape Drives" field is filled with "1". By the way, NO tape is installed on the machine.

  • OWB Connectivity Issue

Problem description: When we try to connect to the OWB repository on production through the design center, it does not open up. It opens up very rarely.
Initial analysis done: It is not a problem with client. The same client is being used to connect to DEV and QA repositories.
There are lot of stale OWBSYS objects in the production database. And there are no stale objects present in DEV or QA. Although the stats were gathered on Prod, the objects still appear stale.
For the time being: team is  using the node2 of Oracle instead of scan listener.
It works fine. There is some problem with node1 .When connected with Node 1, it keeps on running and there is no end to it.
Kindly help us in resolving this issue.

one of the possible cause could be you use up the space in the tablespace, check which tablespace your owbsys use, by default it is using user tablespace if you don't change it when you installed.

  • OWB mapping issue

    Hi,
I we have an issue with 10gR database and OWB mapping.
When I run the generated SQL of the OWB mapping it hardly takes any time to complete.
But when I run the mapping through OWB client or Run
the process flow which calls the mapping it takes huge amount of time and does'nt complete sometimes.
Please can someone suggest something ?
    Regards,

    Hi ,
Check if that mapping is taking time for auditing purpose only .
If yes then you can consider to pure old audit information from OWB repository .
You can use the script provided by Oracle to purge audit information .
Else read Metalink Note 430755.1 "How To Purge OWB Execution Audit Tables Using The Truncate Command"

  • OWB Performance Issue

    Hi
I have a performance issue with OWB.
    OWB 9.0.4.8.21
    Oracle 9.2.0.1.0
I designed some mappings with business rules/ transformations on windows system (AMD athalon,
1*1.8 Ghz CPU, 1 GB ram) . When I run these mappings, my CPU usage goes to 100 % while my ram usage stays at 70 %.
My mapping loads data from a flatfile to tables using External tables. As my cpu usage is 100% the upload time statistics are not reliable. So i have transferred the .mdl from windows to a higher end unix machine (HP-UX 11.00, 6*450 Mhz CPU, 6 Gb Ram, OWB 9.2(Unix),
    Oracle 9.2.0.1.0).
Logically my mappings should run faster on Unix but it is taking 3 times more time than the windows system. Here also my CPU usage goes to 100 % while ram usage stays at
    30 %.
One more observation on Unix machine is that the Oracle process which runs my mapping uses only 1 CPU while other CPUs are not utilized.
Is there a way where in i can fork/thread my oracle process which runs the mapping to use all the CPUs instead of only 1 CPU.
Do i need to do some changes in my mapping configuration /properties or in Oracle (init.ora) to
improve the performance of my upload.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Manoj

    Manoj,
If you use Process Flow that includes several mappings then use of FORK activity insures parallel execution of multiple mappings. See more on this in OWB 9.2 User Guide, page 10-24 "FORK".
If you wish to have a single mapping execute on multiple CPUs in parallel, then it all depends on the nature of the mapping and corresponding configuration options set:
    - You mentioned using External Tables. External tables have configuration options "Parallel Access Mode" and "Parallel Access Drivers" that control parallelism. See more on this in OWB 9.2 User Guide, page 5-18 "Parallel".
    Other cases:
    - If the mapping is run in Row based mode with Parallel Row Code option set to 'True'. This takes advantage or Database's table function feature. See more on this in OWB 9.2 User Guide, page 11-7 "Parallel Row Code".
    - If the mapping inserts into multiple tables using Splitter operator with Optimized Code option set to 'True'. This takes advantage or Database's multi-table insert feature. See more on this in OWB 9.2 User Guide, page 11-8 "Optimized Code".
The fact that a more powerful Unix server takes much longer to execute the same mappings suggests a problem with database configuration. The parallelism is usually most optimally achieved with PARALLEL_AUTOMATIC_TUNING set to 'true'. Beyond that, many manual options of configuring the database for parallelism are available. See "Oracle9i Data Warehousing Guide", Chapter 21 "Using Parallel Execution".

  • OWB View Issue.

am having a mapping which contains a view. The view is run on a
remote database and the mapping uses the view data as a source.
When i execute the mapping, i get 0 rows from the view.
However when i execute the view on the remote database
    i get data from it.
I have deleted the view in the remote DB to see whether the
DB link was pointing to the correct view or source or not.
Infact the mapping package gives an error which shows that
its poining to the right view.
I have created a temp table in the remote DB and i source the
view to this temp table. In this case the data is captured.
I am not sure why the view is not running in the view format.
Any mapping configuration to be altered.
    I am on OWB 9.2.0.4

Have you tried to use "generate intermediate results" on your source view in your mapping and copied the SQL statement in a tool like TOAD to verify the correct SQL is executed?

If you also installed the client, that is significant --- as well as unnecessary, seeing as the server install includes the client software.
Within which I'm going to create some schema using EM web interface. But the EM is not able to connect to the database instance due to no listener.
But the listener seems there as I'm able to login to sqlplus with scott/tiger.So exactly how do you log on with sqlplus? As mentioned in another post, "sqlplus scott/tiger" is not the same as "sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl". The first uses an IPC connection and does not require a listener. The second uses an ip connection and does require a listener.
So you installed the DB product? In your first message you only said you installed the client. If you installed the db, you got the client with it and need not make a separate client installation.
Before we can proceed, you need to tell us exactly what you installed.
at a command prompt (on whatever machine is actually running the database) do a "lsnrctl status".
And do let us know some important information, like OS version, oracle software installed, including version to 4 digits
