Packaging material type

I have created material using the material type VERP
this is a packaging material & I want to add packaging material type in the material master but i am not able to find this field there can you guys please tell me the exact view wherein i can mention the packaging material type

I have used Material type VERP for creating the material.
let me clarify 1 thing i.e. packaging material type and material type VERP are two different things
packaging material type is field in material master and its not the one which comes while creating the material as that is material type
and this is my packing material in which i want to pack the material X(FERT)
As per my understanding the Material X will carry the packaging material group and the packing material must carry the packaging material type becuase in the config (logistics execution> shipping> allowed packaging material type per material group) packaging material type is having certain allowed material group.
due to this config i can pack my material X only in certain type of packing materials

Problem with Packaging Material Type

Hello all Gurus,
I have a problem with a packaging material type that I have created copying the standrad Packaging material type LEIH. I created a new packing material type ZPAC - Packaging Material copying LEIH.
I then created a new material master record using this new material type ZPAC.
When I am using this material for packing in outbound delivery document - VL01N, I am getting the following strange error message:
20333 does not have packaging material type and is therefore not a pack.mat.
Please suggest me why this error is coming and how I can rectify this error. Is there any further configuration that I need to do for packaging material types??? Kindly suggest.

Hi,
Material type is not enough, you have to maintain proper master data as well as config.
At least please maintain value in MARA-VHART for the packaging material. Please also check these links how HUM works:

Create an external HU with different packaging material type

Hi All,
Iu2019m trying to create an external handling unit with the material below:
Packaging material: 2892
Packaging material type: Z501
Material Group: Packaging Materials: Z501
But the system creates de HU with the Packaging material type: 0001 instead Z501.
My question is.. How can I set the material or HU to take the Packaging material type Z501?

Packaging material type-SU type

Hello to all
While manually packing / repacking HU for outbound delivery against customer order the error "Packaging materail type XXXX in warehouse ABC is not assigned to SU type"
On checking the customising setting at "Logistics General >HUM>Basics>WM>Assign Storage unit type to packaging material type" I found that there is no assignment of Pkg mat type to SU type.
Please confirm (as I am under the belief that this setting is relevant only when HU has to be automatically packed for moving into warehouse) if the above customising controls the error as I do not have access to test by changing the customisation.

Can we increase the field length of Packaging material type description

Hi,
The field length allowed for packaging material type description is 20 characters. If i need to have this length to be increased to 25-30.Is it possible?
I mean the description that we give when we create new packaging material type.

Unfortunately there is no standard way to change this, the desc. field of the view (V_TVTY-VTEXT) is created from the value T685T-VTEXT which has been defined with the Domain TEXT20, so in order to add addition characters to this field, you would need to redefine the preceding field type.

Defining Packaging Material Types

Hi all,
Pls help me to resolve this problem. I want to define Packaging Material Types. When I define the 3rd record. There is an error: Entry B 000001 does not exist in T683 (check entry). The point stand at OutputDet.Proc. field. The first and second record, i also enter the exact this value, but no error.
What do i do?

1) Check in Material Master Sales: sales org.1 whether you have maintained Delivering Plant
2) Check in ovx6 whether plant is assigned to sales organization and distribution channel
3) Check in ovf0, whether you have assigned Business Area to Plant and Division

There is a place in SPRO where i can define the material type for packaging.
Logistics - General -> Handling Unit Management -> Basics -> Define Packaging Material Types
How can i create a material using this material type? What is the use of material type here?
Whenever i create material in MM01/MM41, i get the standard material type list.

In T.code: OMS2, you can get standard material type list.VERP is the standard material type for packing material.You can copy VERP and rename to ur material type( as it is ur business requriement or else u can use same VERP)

With the help of ur Material Type , u can craete material like The material type,will be used while defining the material
master.At that time,in Tcode:MM01,first screen we need to
mention,(material type)it show the nature of material
ex:-engineering product,finished products,semifinished
product,etc.,
It also play vital role on material numbering,material type in comination with plant & valuation class, play vital role in inventory & accoputning.

Then we send packaging material back to vendor.But this process is mannual.

I hope you are looking for packaging instruction for vendor.
As vendor will send the materiel in packaging and after delivering the material will take back the packaging material. if this is yes. Then it can be deal with Handling unit the benefit you would have of this is, harmonized way of packaging the material. And even you can create packaging instruction to vendor with weight and seize of the product .
Configuration as below for handling unit.
Go to SPRO> Logistics - General>Handling Unit Management--step1)>Define Packaging Material Types
Step 2) Define Material Group for Packaging Materials-
Step 3) Define Allowed Packaging Materials- By assigning packaging material types to the material groups for packaging materials, you define which packaging materials are allowed for packing.
Step 4) Use Handling Unit Supplements
SPRO> Logistics - General>Handling Unit Management>External Identification>Set Unique Number Assignment for HU Identification--It is only possible to indicate a storage location as HU-managed if you have set this indicator. The use of non-assigned handling units without unique number assignment is not supported
Step 2) Number Range Maintenance for HU Identification--You can maintain number ranges for number assignment for handling unit identification via number range intervals which is consists of 9 digits without overlapping
step 3) SSCC Generation Acc to EAN128
3 a) Maintain Number Range Object for SSCC-- Number range object "LE_SSCC" is provided with interval "01" and a 9-digit number length. Create the number range objects and intervals necessary for your organization and country dependent.
3 b) Maintain SSCC Generation for Each Plant / Storage Location-
4) SPRO> Logistics - General>Handling Unit Management>Automatic Packing> Packing Instructions Master Data-->Define Number Ranges for

Then go to POP1 to create packaging instruction.
And maintain determination record using POF1 with key combination as vendor /Plant/ material, for condition type RCPT For incoming material & SHIP-Ship to party material.
Or even you can send back the returnable packaging material by using 501M > MIGO>Other Movt type--> 501M.

Handling unit/ Packaging material

Hello,
I have a question in handling/packing materials.
I have configured packaging materials and groups right, and assigned it properly to my warehouse.
But when I provide the information regarding packaging material in HU02, it says
"XXX (Packaging material) does not have packaging material type and is therefore not a pack.mat."
Can anyone suggest what to do now ?

How to treat packaging material at GR / no track

Guru ,
i have done GR for a material with a packaging material which consistutes a handling unit .
ie handling unit= materaial + packaging material .
when i did GRN , maetrial is shown in the storage location . fine .
where is the packaging material along the material gone . NO trace of it .
please help , my question is genuine .

Hi Manu,
I assume your basic settings for handling units are ok (e.g. item category group settings in material master for packmat and to-be-packed material - e.g. MARA-VHART, MVKE-MTPOS, MARA-MAGRV).
What you have to do:
- SPRO > LE > SHipping > Deliveries > Define Item Category Determination for Deliveries - here you have to set: "Delivery type"-"Item category group"-"Usage"-"item category high level item"-Item category" combination (e.g.: LF-LEIH-PACK-<empty>-DLN)
- SPRO > LE > Shipping > Pack > Define Packaging Material Types - here you have to maintain Plant determination for HU" field for your packmat ("Plant proposed from the first item that was packed).
Please also ensure whether generation of packaging material type is allowed for the delivery type you use: SPRO > LE > Shipping > Deliveries > Delivery Type - here set "Gen. pack. matl. item"
If these settingsare ok > create the delivery in VL01N > pack the main item (VL02N > (menu) Edit > Pack). Whe you go back to overview you should see the newly generated item for your packaging material.
If you want the packaging material item automatically generated when you create the delivery, you have to:
- maintain packaging instruction for the to-be-packed item
- set auto pack indicator for delivery type (SPRO > LE > Shipping > Deliveries > Delivery Type - here set "Automatic packing")

Delivery item for HU Packaging Material

Hi all,
I have a problem in Packing (LM46) using HU management. When I pack the HU to a delivery it creates another line item (900001) for the packaging material used in the HU. I have not set this functionality for the delivery type (LF). Can't figure out why this is happening, does anyone know what else I should check for ?

Hi,
a delivery item is also generated for the packing material, if a plant was determined/added for the packing material and an item type was determined for it
you should check
- transaction 0184 for the item type determination and
- transaction vhar for the plant determination
(the other case is if
-an item type was determined for the packing material -> 0184,
- the delivery item creation for packing material is set for the delivery type -> 0vlk and
- delivery item creation is also set for the packaging material type -> vhar)
note 831204 describes these two cases when a delivery item is generated for the packing material

This is how the basic process of packing works.
The "Packing Process" with an Example
Example:
You created a order for a material(R-1160 - hard disks) for a qty - 120 pieces.
You need to create a delivery and
A)pack 40 pieces each of the material are grouped together into larger cardboard boxes (PK-100 - shipping/packing material) and
B)these 3 cardboard boxes are put into pallet (PK-095).
Solution:
A)Packing 40 pieces each of material (40 x 3 = 120 pieces)
1)Goto [VL02N] to change the delivery, you already created.
Or you can do the following steps while you are creating a delivery also.
2)Go to "pack" icon.
3)In the upper section, enter the "packing material" (PK-100)
4)In the lower section, change the "partial quantity" to 40 of material R-1160.
5)Select both the lines of upper section and lower section and click the green ok. It generates a shipping unit/handling unit number.
6)Now, select both lines of upper & lower section & click the button "per part. qty" (New HU per part qty of material)
Check: click "General Overview" icon to see whether it packed 40 pieces of material in 3 cartons.
B)Packing all 3 cartons in one big carton(PK-095)
1) from above screen, click "pack HUs" (pack shipping unit)
2)enter the packaging material (PK-095) in the upper section and select this line.
3)select 3 lines of PK-100 in lower section since you want to pack them in PK-095.
4)selecting both lines, click "pack" icon.
5)Now all the 3 cartons(PK-100 with 40 pieces each of material) are packed in one big carton (PK-095).
Check: "General overview" icon.

ZPAK material type

Hi Experts
When I extend the packaging material (material : carton, ZPAK : material type) to new plant with new values, the changes are applying to the previous plants as well.
For Ex: I tried changing the values for packaging material type in sales general/plant view for a particular plant, but it was happening across all plant.
Any suggestions how can we controll at plant level?

Hi,
There are certain field in material master which are not plant specific (these are set at client level).
Packaging material type is one of such field which is not plant specific.
So when u2013 ever you will change this value in one plant it will get automatically changed for all other plants.
