Pacman all odd after a recent -Syu
Yes, pacman is acting all strange after I recently updated all packages. Now, every time I run pacman I get this:
error: /var/lib/pacman/local/kernel26-2.6.19.2-1/desc: No such file or directory
I tried creating the dir and but then it complains about 'depends' in the same directory. After creating that one, pacman seems to stop responding when trying to download something...
Also, it seems pacman is unaware of already installed packages as it wants to install a lot of stuff I already have.

WHen I try to launch Firefox, a window appears saying it's can't establish a connection to the server at any of the web pages I request. Firefox recently upgraded and since then this has been happening. I have an internet connection with another browser, so it's not my internet service. I downloaded another copy of Firefox and it still does not work.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 and later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List. -
I normally do backups of my iTunes music files. After a recent hard disc failure I tried to reload iTunes from these backups. This was ok, i.e. the music was all there but I lost my ratings. How do I have to save the music library to include the rating information?

After a recent Firefox update, all the Bookmarks I had saved, disappeared. Also, I am unable to scroll down to see the sites I had already visited and saved. Now, when I go to a page I would like to Bookmark, I am unable to do so. I will click on Bookmark This Page but it does not work.

My Pages App will not open after I recently updated it. I'm afraid to lose all my docs if I delete the App and re-install.
First of all - you are running the proper iOS in order to use the latest version of Pages - correct? You need iOS 6 now.
If so ....See if this helps. Maybe Pages will open after you try this.
Quit the Pages app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or ..... Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If that didn't help backup and send your files into iTunes with file sharing.
You could lose all of your files if you delete and reinstall the app. That is precisely why you should backup your iPad and send your files into iTunes using files sharing on the iPad. Do you backup or use file sharing?
Backup your iPad, send the files from the iPad into iTunes using file sharing and then delete the app and reinstall it.

[SOLVED] Getting theme errors after a recent upgrade in gtk3 apps
I have recently started getting errors like these after a recent upgrade.
(nautilus:12329): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: *-*:*:*: Not using units is deprecated. Assuming 'px'.

I have tried few themes (Fear, Hope, Aldabra), all seem to give me this error. Also, theme Fear broke (gave white text with white background) after the upgrade.
Can anyone else reproduce this error?
If there is any theme that doesn't have problems with updated system, please share.

My iPhone 4 no longer connects to my car or alarm clock after a recent sync to my computer. The message at I get when trying to. Connect is "this accessory is not optimized for the device" or something like that. Anyone know how to fix this?

If I understand correctly it sounds like your phone hasnt been recognized in iTunes on your PC since the last couple of updates. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article which will walk you through the steps one by one.

I have a PC computer and an i-phone 4S. I set up an i-tunes acct online w/ icloud. After a recent update my PC started receiving an error message on start up. It says "AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Entry Point Not Found". It also says, " The procedure entry point smlTextreaderConstName could not be located in the dynamic link library libxml2.dll". I click on OK and it moves on. It doesn't seem to affect my computer, but it's annoying. Any ideas on correcting this?
UPDATE - (Made a second post so it'd be clearer)
I uninstalled Office 2003, then iTunes, then all of the associated software (Mobile Device Support, Apple Update, Quicktime, EVERYTHING)
Reinstalled Office 2003, then Office 2003's Service Pack 3, then all Microsoft Updates for Office 2003. Then I configured a blank Outlook profile, no data other than the IMAP info for my .Mac/Me account. Then I downloaded (didn't used my existing copy) of iTunes 7.7 and reinstalled. Sync'd phone. Changed MobileMe settings. Told it to sync contacts and calendar with Outlook. It warned me because it was the first sync. Told it to take ALL of the MobileMe data and replace the data on the computer (which was blank.) NOTHING showed up in Outlook. When I tell it to sync Contacts with the Windows Address Book, it works fine.
In Conclusion, it still won't sync with Outlook, when it's set to Sync with Outlook I still get the annoying MAPI errors. So I switched to to Sync the Contacts with the Windows Address Book, and I'm backing up my WAB file now with my nightly backups.
I suppose we'll see if it gets fixed when I format/reinstall on Vista Ultimate in the next month or two. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open and willing to try them.
On a completely unproductive note: Despite my love for Exchange, I hate MAPI. -
After a recent iTunes update attempt iTunes no longer functions and the airport extreme base station is not accessable on our computer. We still have wifi but cannot access the base station software.
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the response. I tried that approach this evening and it didn't work for me. (Technically it worked for me, when I was hardwired into my base station, but would not work for me wirelessly, which is my main issue.)
Again, using the approach you recommended works only if I have my ethernet cable attached to the LAN port so my computer is communicating directly to the base station through the hard wire. I am able to scan for my base station and make setting adjustments normally this way too.
As soon as I disconnect from the LAN port and try to go wireless is where I run into problems. The Base Station's wireless network I created is available to choose in the top right corner of the monitor with all of the other available wireless devices/networks -- but the network I created does not have access to the internet. I am also unable to configure my Base Station wirelessly. When my Airport Utility tries to scan for the Base Station and Network, it cannot find any Apple Wireless Device. It's like the Wireless Network in my base station is not sending out a signal.
Is there a way to resolve this issue? -

How can I get my Iphotos to show as my screen saver please ? all disappeared after upgrading ...I have done as suggested and deleted all relevant files , but now am only left with the "Squirly " screen saver option in the drop down menu and no option for Iphoto library.
Slow, intermittent. Sometimes bootable sometime not. Odd behavior.
Sounds to me like a classic case of your HD failing.
Your SMART status may still show verified, with no errors on the Apple Hardware Test, Disk Utility shows no problems on Disk Repair- this is of no help.
I trust you have a good back-up and a bootable clone.

After the recent update I am having issues with Flash based games freezing and not responding.
After the recent update I am having issues with flash based programs not running or loading correctly. The programs will not load or take an extremely long time to load compared to jsut a few days ago. This happens across the board on anything flash based. Also, once they do load they will freeze, stop responding or need to be constantly refreshed to come back alive which is short lived at best. I went thru the help and did all the file deleting, cache clearing, disabling hardware acceleration, removing then reinstalling flash, and even removing and reinstalling my browsers. None of this has helped at all. I am using Chrome and it is up to date and I checked my Flash player and it is up to date. I am running windows 7 64bit.
Here's what you're up against guys,
Adobe writes the base code for Flash Player, and then hands it off to Google, who adapt it to a PPAPI plug-in (it's NPAPI when Adobe writes it). It's then "PepperFlash" and Google embeds it in their Chrome browser. While Google is pushing a "webwide" move to PPAPI Flash Content, a reinvention of the wheel so to speak, not everyone "got the memo", and Google is slowly making it so that PepperFlash will block NPAPI Flash content from running properly, and you have to disable PepperFlash to force the NPAPI plug-in to work, which sometimes fixes it, sometimes not. I have a feeling this is only going to get worse. HTML5 will eventually resolve the video end but game developers need to come up with something that won't require a plug-in.
And to the first post: Since PepperFlash is embedded in Chrome by Google, you can uninstall and reinstall Flash Player from here until your hard drive literally seizes up.... guess what? It has NO EFFECT at all on the PepperFlash plug-in in Chrome because it's a separate file in a separate folder and the uninstaller & installers don't have anything to do with it. -
Problems with opening iBA books after the recent upgrade.
How many folks have had problems opening .iba books after the recent upgrade??
I did ! I completed and delivered a free book which was No: 9 in series - all the others opened OK in iBA after the upgrade except this last one.
I read the forum, none of the offered solutions worked for me.
I contacted support and was eventually asked to upload to there server the original .iba file which I did a few days back.
Today I had a reply to advise they had found and corrected the probem and gave me server access info to download a revised file.
The problem turned out to be the "Intro Media" I had dropped an image and not a video, which I have done before without probelms.
Apple support have removed it and the book file opens OK.
I dont know if this will help others who had problems opening files in iBA after the update.
It does seem as though the delivery of content acceptance critera is getting tighter or maybe its my own fault for doding the requirements!Its seems like the application load may have not completed properly or there were some issues.
