Pacman mirror list issue

hello
i was facing a problem with corrupted files when i updated arch with "pacman -Syu" command then  i updated "pacman" and  i saw  there are two files
/etc/pacman.d/
mirrorlist mirrorlist.pacnew
so  system is using mirrorlist, should i delete the other fle name mirrorlist.pacnew or replace it mirrorlist?

Never confuse pacnew, pacsave and pacorig.
As Allan said, read http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pac … save_Files !

couldn't pacman distribute mirror lists during updating?
    - first step: fetch new mirror list.
    - second step: update now.
Furthermore, if pacman.conf could include an option the way like:
    REGION=EUROPE
pacman could prefer to adress mirrors in europe.
    Just an idea.

  • Pacman, reflector & mirror list question (seems SOLVED from responses)

When i update mirrors from the home page.. all the mirrors are commented out.. I save it as mirrorlist
    then run the reflector command..
does it ONLY rank the number of mirrors i ask for in the United States.. or mirrors right down the list that ive copied and pasted in mirror list??
the reason I ask.. cause i opened up the mirrorlist that got ranked by reflector and 2 of them are from Brazil... and not even in the US list..
should I just copy the US mirrors, then run reflector??
    am i doing something wrong??
i dont want to get strange, incompatable packages... I hope I'm asking this correctly..
and when i used to update pacman -Syyu.. it happened in seconds..now it takes almost a min (not that this is alot of time, but its slower then it ever was) and it's only updating via 5 mirrors from the reflector command..
so should i only copy the US mirrors into mirrorlist then run reflector or copy entire mirror list then run reflector..
    whats the best way?
dont want to screw up my system
    thanks

I'm not sure if the app / service is working OK atm. I'd say it's not your fault.
    > dont want to screw up my system
I don't thnk you can crash&burn it this way. It's just a list of mirrors.

  • [SOLVED] Update Mirror List

    Hi all
I was reading a post earlier and it mentioned updating the mirror list at http://www.archlinux.org/mirrorlist/. I generated the list okay, but can someone enlighten me as to what to do with it please?
    Thanks
    Rich

    You could eat it...
Seriously, copy that newly generated list to either a temp text file or directly into the /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist file itself.  This also assumes you'll delete the current contents of the mirrorlist file before pasting your new list into it.
After that, just do your pacman -Syu to get the new packages.

  • Stupid me deleted the pacman mirrors... [SOLVED]

I know this sounds incredibly stupid, but I did. I tried sorting the mirror list and now I can't seem to download certain packages from extra, and I'd like to go back to the original mirror list. I just can't seem to figure out which package the mirror list is contained in.
If someone can just point me in the right direction, that would be great
At least I managed to resist the urge to try uninstalling pacman and reinstalling it
(no, I'm really not an idiot, I just do really stupid things some times)

  • Belnet pacman mirror

    Hello,
I have an internet connection of a university that works as follows:
You can download only 4GB per month off the internet with your account. But since Belnet is our backbone and contains only educational things like linux distributions, you may download from belnet without it costing any gigabytes.
My next pacman full system upgrade, is 900MB. I'd like to use belnet to upgrade archlinux to be able to use this 900MB for other things.
But, the belnet archlinux mirror, at http://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/archlinux.o … y/os/i686/, doesn't work for me anymore. If I go to that URL, it keeps loading forever, but does nothing.
Could you try in a browser if that URL works for you?
Can someone of Archlinux fix this, or is it completely up to the Belnet administrators?
If anyone can help, thank you very much!

I have had lots of ups and downs with the belnet mirror as well. A lot of packages are out of date. Even though http://users.archlinux.de/~gerbra/mirrorcheck.html says it is up-to-date (at present anyhow).
And here's a package that seems out of sync in a lot of mirrors : sshfs
Its been updated two days ago (to 2.2-2) :
    http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sort … =&limit=50
But pacman still tries to install version 2.2-1 :
    :: Retrieving packages from extra...
error: failed retrieving file 'sshfs-2.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz' from ftp.archlinux.org : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
error: failed retrieving file 'sshfs-2.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz' from ftp.belnet.be : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
AS you can see it's also out-of-sync on the main mirror...
Another weird thing : the following mirror :
    http://mirror.leaseweb.com/software/arc … a/os/i686/
lists the package correctly (2.2-2), but this mirror is not even listed in the Mirror List from the wiki...
PS: is it possible to tell pacman to install a specific version of a package ?

  • Distribution List issue

    Hello,
Since our upgrade to GW 8 users can no longer administer Distribution Lists. I have created a new test list and made myself administrator to verify this. I can add the members to the list but when I save and close they are not added to the list. We are running 8.02 with most current build (91941)on agents and clients. Do I need to run some kind of PO repair?
    Thanks in advance.

Hmm, weird although I'm have a weird dist list issue also in that some are disappearing from users' address books. Sometimes they'll show back up if I refresh the address book from the system book but often not. I'll submit a new post on that one; it's possible they're related.

  • Pacman mirror for India

All the pacman mirrors seems to be slow from my location, chennai in southern India. The only reason I am sticking with ubuntu, is that they have got a mirror 4 kms away from my home in IIT and i get  60K download speed on my 512kbps line. I tried a few of them and none of them includeing the main server give more than 30k. This should'nt be a problem, except that my ISP has a download limit and I can  download for free only for 11pm to 9am, which is usually used for downloading other stuff. So how do I find which server will be fastest for me. I tried to ping the servers and compare, but I soon discovered that the ping really does'nt influence download speed. Often a server with higher ping seems to be faster than some with lower ping.

i use the apokryph server from the topic of #archlinux.de which is pretty up to date and i get good speed there aswell (about 650k). the downside is, that it doesn't include the community repo
edit: switched to hosteurope.de too. just as fast, more up to date than apokryph and it has community too /me happy

    In cron.daily, there is a "pkgfile" :
    #!/bin/bash
    . /etc/pkgtools/pkgfile.conf
    if (( $UPDATE_CRON )); then
    /usr/bin/pkgfile --update >/dev/null
    fi
    from package : pkgtools
which seems to be the main suspect.
Thanks fukawi2 to make me figure it out.

  • RDweb 2012 excel jump list issue for win 7

    Hello All,
I am installing win 2012 server RDweb test lab. everything working perfect but Excel 2010 jump list now showing up on client side (win 7 Embedded thin client) remaining all office application Jump list working perfectly.
I tried to clear recent jump list but nothing is happen.
Could you please help me to resolve.
    Thanks.

    Hi Sunil,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For Excel jump list issue you can try below suggestion as it may get your issue resolved (Quoted from below articles).
Jump List...that is corrupted in AutomaticDestinations-hidden system folder is the likely solution.. To resolve and fix the issue, follow these steps:
    1. Open Windows Explorer .
    2. Type or copy and paste the following into the address bar:
    %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
    3. Identify files that are comparatively larger in size than the rest of the file, such as files that have file size of 1 MB or more.
    Delete the abnormal file.
Tip: If you do not want to retain the Jump Lists’ recent items history on all applications, just delete all the automaticDestinations-ms files in the folder.
4.The recent items functionality on Jump Lists will be restored. The recent items on the Jump Lists will be re-added as the program is been used. However, do note that the solution does not restore the previously pinned items. So user will have to pin new
    items again.

Apart you can refer this thread also which describe other registry solution if above one
    is not useful.
    Hope it helps!

  • Pacbak.sh, backup pacman file lists..

So i'm not sure if someone has done anything like this before.. but I was reading the wiki and just thought I'd hack something together real quick.. This script will let you backup your current pacman installed list, and restore it if you decide to get your box the way you want it.. then all of a sudden it crashes and burns to the ground xD.. Anywho.. I know I could have done a better job but.. i'm lazy. Comments are so very welcome!!!

Why are you filtering out those packages?
I personally want to backup explicitly installed packages, no matter where they are from.
Tip: host your own binary repo and when you build packages from AUR (or others from source) put them there.
I was setting up a repo @ my sever for packages.. so.. I'm working on it.. Thanks ghost1227.. arch-blocking like that.. lol.

  • [SOLVED] pacman mirror problems

It seems that my preferred mirror (mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca) is down, so I commented it out of /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist. However, pacman still insists on trying to download from this mirror EVERY TIME it tries to install or update a package
So each package takes about 15 seconds to say:
error: failed retrieving file 'gcc-4.5.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz' from mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca: Connection timed out
    before trying another mirror.
Is there an option to make sure pacman is using the mirrors specified in the mirrorlist, or to not use a certain mirror? I can't find anything in the man page or wiki.
    thanks.

I know this thread is marked solved but I've just run into the same problem and was wondering how you fixed this issue?
When I run pacman -Syu I get:
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca : Connection timed out
So I guess this is the same problem. It's weird though because I'm still able to search for packages without the connection timing out. I did check the mirrors status and it still seems to be up so I don't think that's an issue.
Any help would be appreciated, sorry in advance if I've done something wrong by posting in a thread marked solved.
Shot in the dark but I had a similar problem. The way I fixed it (and I'm still not sure why it worked) but I manually entered my DNS servers into my network manager applet. I don't know if you use Gnome, KDE, or whatever (I use KDE), but that worked for some reason. Maybe you could try it.
Thanks for the response, yes I'm using Gnome and networkmanager applet 0.8. I'm not too sure what you mean by entering the DNS server in the network manager applet. Are you suggesting that I enter my ip address (the one assigned to me by my ISP) into the BSSID or MAC address field? Those are the only two fields that I see when I select my connection and click edit in the network manager applet, unless I go to the security settings or one of the IPv tabs.
I was able to update my system after uncommenting the kernel.org mirror, so maybe it is the mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca. Too bad mirrors don't have a blog or something to post news/status updates on it could prove helpful when problems like this occur. Then again that would mean more maintenance for them and I can understand why it might be considered too much work. I guess https://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorStatus works good enough.

  • Pacman sync time issues when behind router

It didn't used to be so, but now whenever try a "pacman -Syu", it takes two or three minutes to complete(it used to take less than 10 seconds). I'm not sure if it's related, but I recently began using a router(Ativa54G) to connect to the internet, so maybe there's something I need to change in/etc/hosts to reflect this?

It's the actual syncing of the lists that's taking a while(which I'm assuming an accelerator won't help).
EDIT: Okay, apparently the issue was that the ArchLinux ftp site was listed first in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist. Also, I've narrowed down the rest of the problem to the US kdemod4 repos...

  • Pacman and list of mirriors and modem/router change.

    Hi all
I am wondering how pacman decides which mirror it will use to update.
My problem is that since swapping out my modem/router pacman has been unable to update.  I have just changed /etc/pacman.d/mirrors to point to a different mirror in an effort to correct the problem but it seems to be tied to the mirror it originally had - mirrors.uk2.net.  Having said that it is not using the new mirror either - distrib-coffee.ispl.jussieu.fr.
Also is pacman somehow tied to one router or what ip the router assigns to the machine, and cannot adjust to new ip settings?
    TIA
    david

It probably is mirrorlist - just a typo on my part.
A dns issue?  I am not sure.  I have looked in /etc/resolv.conf and that shows the new router ip.  I dont seem to be able to do ifconfig as whatever that is associated with is not installed.
But it does seem to have fixated on the uk2.mirrors.net for pacman.
I shall do some more digging.
