Page authorizations import error

When exporting/importing applications from our test application to the production application we are finding that some of the page authorisations are getting lost.
The ones affected are any that are defined as "{NOT}SOME SCHEME". When imported these are set to "!123456789123" (basically a very long number preceded by a "!". Normal schemes are imported correctly, as are negative schemes that have been applied to page items and the like.
Versions are 9.2.0.4 EE database and HTMLDB 1.4.4.00.32

This happens when you install the app as a new application ID. Two workarounds: 1) manually re-attach the inverse form of the authorization schemes to the affected components after installation. 2) in the original application, explicitly create the inverse form of the {NOT} authorization schemes with inverse logic, using a name of your choice. I'll log the bug. Thanks for pointing it out.

Word to Pages "Import Error"

I have a load of files created by drag and drop editing of pdf files into Word tables. I want to use pages to edit these ... it should be easier with services. Most of the files open fine, but a few give me an Import Error. Any ideas? There are no obbvious differences between the accepted files and the rejected files. I mightjust gie up with Pages, leaving it for the Mrs to play with ... Keynote seems nice though!
(Sorry is this has been asked and sorted, but search is off-line and I couldn't find it in the messages when I browsed)

Pages simply won't support a table with that many rows. If you need that many, you must use another application.
Perhaps the originator could use a tabbed list rather than a table. That's the only way you will be able to contain a list that long in Pages. You can do the conversion yourself if you open the Word document in LibreOffice, Copy the Table, Paste the Table into Numbers, Export the Numbers doc to CSV, and import to Pages. In Pages Find and Replace the Commas with Tabs.
There are probably other ways, but that's what comes to mind here.

Create PDF From Web Page - Authenticated SharePoint Sites generate "Authorization Failure" error

We have several authenticated sharepoint sites on our intranet, and we are trying to create a PDF of a site (x levels down) using the Acrobat create PDF from web page feature. When you try to create a PDF from a non-sharepoint, authenticated website, a login prompt appears asking for login credentials. However, when you try to use the same feature on an authenticated sharepoint site, you do not get prompted for credentials and instead get an Authorization Failure error. the popup says "Error: Nothing Done". We have successfully PDF'd anonymous sharepoint sites on the WWW. Has anyone successfully PDF'd an authenticated SharePoint site?

I am having the same issue AND none of my pages or files require a UserID or Password. My issue appears to be something with the domain because a and b work just fine and produce a PDF file while item c does not work and produces the error msg.

Import Error with Pages

I have been working on my college application essay for a while now, and I've had it saved as a Word Document on my flash drive. Today, I tried to open the file and it said: Import Error: file format invalid. My flash drive and computer both work completely fine; I have other word files on my flash drive that I can open and use as normal. I've tried opening the file on both my brother and mom's MacBook Pros and I'm receiving the same message. I tried it on our HP computer as well, and when I open the file I'm getting this weird encoding message. (Sorry, I'm not much of a tech guru and can't use any fancy terms). I think the file might be damaged, but I don't know how that would've happened. I'm sorry if this isn't enough information, but this is everything I know and have tried. If anybody knows what's wrong and has any solutions (laymen's terms are preferred, please), I would be very grateful! (Ironically enough, I was about to back up the file from when I last saved it...)

After having the same issue, I found your post and thought I'd share my solution for your future reference and others. This little tid bit helps when the pages document corrupts and we receive that friendly "Import Error The file format is invalid." message.
Rename the file from "My important assignment.pages" to "My important assignment.zip" and tell the message you really do want to use .zip.
-- Double-click the file.
-- Open the "My important assignment" folder, and open "QuickLook" folder.
-- Double-click the "Preview.pdf"
-- Copy the text and paste into a new Pages document.
These steps help you to recover your page file info.

Import Error Opening AppleWorks 6.2.9 .cwk files in Pages 3.0.2

Once upon a time I could open all my Appleworks 6 files in Pages. Now, trying to open these files in Pages produces an "Import Error - AppleWorks document 'name xxx.cwk' is not a word processing document."
The file(s) were saved, re-saved and re-saved again as an AppleWorks 6.2.9 .cwk files. Pages 3.0.2 will no longer open any of my Appleworks 6 .cwk files. No drag-and-drop. No FILE/OPEN. Nothing ... same "Import Error."
Anyone having the same problems opening AppleWorks 6 .cwk files? Any solutions? Any advice? Thank you.

There was someone else here awhile back that also had problems opening AppleWorks word processing files with Pages. I had no problem opening the files with either AppleWorks or Pages, so we never did figure out what was the cause. I'd be glad to take a look at one or two of these files. I frequently get an "Unknown Import error" when opening an appleworks WP document with Pages.

I am trying to use Pages to convert Appleworks 6.9 WP documents - but I sometimes get an "unknown import error" dialog when I try to import the file into Pages. What does this mean, and is there any way to get around it. (I have not yet converted to Lion, so I can open the document in AW - but cutting and pasting into pages loses a lot of formatting so I would rather not have to go that route.)

Why can't Apple give an informative message instead of "Unknown Import Error"?

You do not have the properties in the Bookmarks Manager (Library), but you should have it if you right-click a bookmark the Bookmarks Toolbar or in the bookmarks sidebar.
On Mac you probably do not have it if you right-click an item in the Bookmarks menu (this menu is under control of the Mac OS), but I assume that this should work if you click the "Show your bookmarks" button on the Navigation Toolbar that is next to the star to bookmark the current tab and right-click an item in the bookmarks list that opens.

Error installing application.What did I do?
Developed some in my test environment (APP ID 381) and made a normal export like 100 times before. When I tried to import that application in APP ID 380 the error occurred.
More information:
Both applications are in the same workspace.
APEX 3.1.2
Oracle XE
I tried a bit around:
Import in another workspace > same error
Restart OAS try to import> same error
Deletion of APP 380 and the try to import > same error
Import of an older version > successfully no errors
Try to make a new export of APP ID 381 > same error on import
Don't want to delete app 381! :O

(1) In one of your replies to my queries, you said that page authorization and permissions (the way it is available now in a file based security where one can go to Edit Authorization on each page and grant read/write) is not available in a J2EE Container managed Security with database schema table based security provider that used custom LoginModules till JDev 11. Till then, is there an alternative way?
(2) Is a tool of some sort in the works for page authorization that can be given to customers? Otherwise it will be nightmare if customers call in and say they want to change authorizations every second and one has to go to JDeveloper to manually check the checkboxes on the pages from "Edit Authorization" and deliver another release after changes.
(3) Lastly, from your replies, it looks like LoginModules are powerful. You mentioned that you can write one to access multiple database connections to access different tables in different schema etc. is there a link to a how-to that addresses this? (Something that may apply to accessing APPLICATION_USERS in one schema and APPLICATION_ROLES and all the SRDemo tables (as a test case)in another schema. I recall it being there somewhere. I want to get "very" familiar with it. By the way, your DBTableOraDataSourcesLoginModule is working very well with the tables in my Oracle JExpress database. Thanks...

Import Error on iTunes Producer

I have already uploaded succesfully two books on the iBooks platform, using iTunes Producer. However, I am having trouble uploading other titles. After my files pass all validation tools (Apple, Epubcheck and Flightcrew), my book is delivered. Then, by opening the Package History menu, I see an Import Error, with no apparent explanation, or error log I can send to apple. I have already checked for the obvious usual suspects (encoding, manifest, namespaces etc) but I cannot find something wrong. In addition, I have already used the Contact Us form in the iTunes Connect module, but there is no answer from Apple.
Anyone with a similar problem, or a possible solution ?

Same error here.
First book being uploaded. Book was created using Sigil, assembled with Calibre, and tested with epubcheck and FlightCrew. After iTunes Producer delivers the file, in a few minutes I retrieve the package status and the message is "import error".
I would imagine that a text file with the reason for the import error would not be that difficult to produce. If it is failing, it probably is reaching a condition that is not allowed during import (a condition would be an IF-THEN-ELSE or a CASE statement). At that point the import process should log what happened and send to us so we could correct it.
In the mean time I entered a request on the Contact Us page and I will post here any replies I receive.

"Import Error" with Word Document (google doc)

I tried to open a word document that I created using Google's online document program and I keep getting 'import error' when I try to open with Pages. I tried it several times on several different .doc documents created with the Google program and get the same error message.
G4 Powerbook Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It's likely they aren't true Word documents & there is some formatting or feature that the translator in Pages can't handle. Could you post a link to where these can be created so others of us can try it?

This is the message I get when opening up a Word doc from a cross-country client:

Unfortunately, he's out of touch for the next week so I have no idea which version he is using...although a look using BBEdit reveals this in the footer of the doc: Microsoft Word for Windows.
Is there a list of supported and unsupported versions of Word, so I can be prepared for my next encounter with this message?

If you can open it up, is the formatting of great importance, or is it just the information you need? If its info, copy from BBEdit and paste into your Pages doc. Sometimes you can open it in text edit and then save as a different format. (I think its text edit, one of the OSX word processors opens word docs ok.)
Sorry, this also appears as a problem in Numbers (believe it or not, its also a problem with Office 2007 for windows too). The explanation gets a bit complicated, but there are so many variations of how a M$ document is created. (not all docs are made by M$ products remember, but exported from other programs on different systems, even if it says "Word for windows").
Because of the varied amount of things that can be wrong (that M$ products seem to overlook, or fill in the gaps that would normally cause an error), there is no hard list of non-compatible versions.
This is just as we ( a bunch of nerds here and around the web), have found out from experimenting with different versions and such.

Page Export / Import in between two workspaces in the same instance

I am trying to import a page from one application to another application in a different work space in the same instance.
In the export file i have changed the target application id and workspace id. I am facing below error while importing the specific page.

I got the solution for the page export/import in between 2 workspaces.
Only thing is we need to do some template related changes in the page, item, region attributes .

Page Authorization Scheme OK button not working

Hi All,
I have a Page Level Authorization scheme, which makes a PL/SQL Function call to determine whether the logged in user should have access to the Page. This works well and displays an 'Access denied by Page security check' error message, but the OK Hyperlink that is displayed does not work as I would expect as I am not returned to the calling page.
The pages in question are Popups and when I hover over the OK Hyperlink, the Javascript in the Taskbar shows javascript:window.history.go(-1). Is this the route of my problem, and is there any way around this when using Popup windows?

Thanks for your response. Yes you have the sequence right: "User clicks on link to popup page from base page and the link is to a forbidden page"
"The basic question is why would you ever show a link to a forbidden page to the user?"
The main reason is time, ideally yes we would like to hide links to forbidden pages but it will take time to implement due to complexity of role combinations and number of pages. So for now, we are confident in our method for denying access to forbidden pages.
The error message that is displayed on the forbidden page is set in the Authorization Scheme, but how do I alter the OK link? Isn't this generated 'behind the scenes'?
