Page Cropping Tool Box Size Problem

I just recently tried to crop a page in Acrobat 9 Pro & noticed that the drop down crop tool box does not fit my computer screen; it is too big.  How can I change the size of the box such that I can check the OK box when I am finished cropping the page in order to save it?
My laptop is a HP Pavilion dm4-2180us Notebook PC running Windows 7 (64-bit) operating system.
Please see attached screen shot which should better explain my problem.
Thx

Is it possible to compress your display. With a tablet, it is simply a matter of drawing your fingers together when placed on the screen. This does not change the pixel resolution, but does change the size of items on the screen.

  • CS6 PS Cropping Tool has many problems for working professionals...

Ok, I understand that the kids at Adobe would like to change things around in "upgrade versions" of Photoshop.  However for working photographers and professionals that crop A LOT of images in the course of their work, the new cropping tool is a DISASTER!  A few may like the new tool... however, there are many that don't.  http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/photoshop_6_crop_tool?utm_content=re ply_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=reply_notification#reply_10280572
To the point, here's how to fix the problem.  Adobe, you have the CS5 PS cropping tool code... please put that code EXACTLY as it is in CS5 into the "Classic" option for CS6 PS.  This way, those who WORK with Photoshop and PAY to use the software can get their work done using the excellent crop tool as was in CS5 (which I have downgraded to so I can get work done) and those who are giddy about the new crop tool can play to their hearts content.
Adobe, you are upsetting a lot of paying clients with your new crop tool and the "faux" classic tool option.  You might want to address this issue soon!

Ken, I have to say that I too chose to go back to CS5.  I feel like I got nailed with being an "early adopter", you know the guys that get to do the bug testing for a company because they didn't know how to do it or were too cheap.
That is something that  Noel (How you doing Noel? You probably don't remember me from back in the Macromedia user group days, but thought I'd say hi anyhow) either doesn't understand or isn't acknowledging so far.
I am judging by his like 19k+ posts that he's either a rep on behalf of Photoshop or an avid user.   I appreciate what he is trying to do, but on the other hand, just admit the tool is a pain.  It isn't intuitive. It does take WAY too long to figure out to use.
I have NEVER had this much problem with any tool in Photoshop. This tool represents the biggest pain I have EVER experienced with a Photoshop tool and I've used it since '93. I adore Photoshop. I am a power user. Those words aren't the words of a flippant newbie.
I know if I use it for 8 hours a day like you Noel, that I will get used to it, but that isn't the point.
The point is that I feel like I was hit with a poorly thought out tool, with a poorly implemented "Classic" mode that feels buggy, to say the least. It's usability doesn't "flow" because for example what genius thought of hitting the P key to go into Classic mode, when that conflicts with the Pen/Paths tool? Really? My deeper concern is that Photoshop is slipping on it's usability standards like Apple is on it's iPhones.  In the words of usability guru, Steve Krug "Don't make me think."
What I chose to do is this:
1)Grudgingly use CS6 for the things it does really really well. Can I just say I love the new Raw interface, and love "Clarity" for example? Great job guys. I watched a tutorial and got it almost instantly.
2)Continue to use CS5 for cropping lot's of images, something I also do a lot of.  Cross my fingers that whoever dropped the ball on this gets their act together and makes this tool truly usable and intuitive.   At the very least they will make the Classic mode work properly.  For example, why do I keep popping out of Classic mode? Why doesn't the preference stick consistently? There shouldn't be a learning curve this steep on a crop tool. I'm really surprised this didn't come up in usability testing.
I hate being the first adopter, because they get to work out all the kinks for the people who failed to do their job in the first place. That's what feels like happened here.  If users don't complain and give feedback, Adobe will never fix the problem, right?
Now before somebody freaks out and calls this a flame, it isn't. No emotion is to be read into this that isn't expressly stated.  I'm not being sarcastic, sardonic or unfriendly. Whatever tone is being read into this is a projection of your own mind.

  • PSE7 Aspect Ratio Crop Tool keeps seizing up on me

I run Windows Vista 32bit and PSE7+ACR 5.6 and I'm perfectly happy with this set up.  However, recently an annoying thing has been happening part way through editing a series of photographs, in that the aspect ratio crop tool seizes up completely, leaving me with the crop ratio that I last used before the lock up.
I have learned that the only way to resolve this is to save the picture I'm currently editing and close the Editor.  Once the Editor is re-opened the crop tool works fine again ... for a while.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the programme but that doesn't work.
I would be interested to know if anyone else has had the same problem, and if so how did you cure it? I'm fairly desperate now - I tried the Adobe UK tech support twice today but was left hanging twice for more than ten minutes, so I had to give up as I'm on a fixed income I can't afford to waste money!
    Any ideas anyone?

I haven't been ignoring your reply Hatstead (thank you for troubling by the way) but I have already tried this on the numerous occasions that the crop tool has locked up on me.  I've also tried 'Reset All Tools' but that has had no effect either.
I had hoped to see a torrent of replies from numerous knowledgeable PSE users and experts on this forum, since a similar post by me on other photography sites has not produced a definitive technical answer to this problem to date.  I don't want to have to resort to purchasing PSE9 or 10 (plus the accompanying Scott Kelby book) since PSE7 gives me all I require at the skill level I find myself.
Once again ... has anyone else had a crop tool locking up problem, and how did you resolve it?

  • Crop Tool Button Problem - Sometimes it works, other times you get Crop Pages Menu

I can't be the only person who's had this problem. Sometimes in Acrobat when I press the Crop Tool button, I get to use the rectangle selection box window and it works fine. Other times when I press the Crop Tool button, I get the Crop Pages menu which is very fustrating .
I found a solution which is to open a PDF where the Crop Tool works fine. Use the Crop tool command and save it. Exit Acrobat. After doing this, any PDF should work fine with the Crop Tool, but there's gotta be a better way.
Any experts know a setting I missed or a mistake I'm repeating?
Note: It seams when Crop Tool works correctly, the button stays pressed down (darkened), but when it doesn't work, the button stays up (not highlighted).

You'd have to get a quote from a phone shop or Nokia Care ! But you can buy the phone from £50 to £150 on Ebay, so may not be worth the repair ?

  • In the tool box my font size is 12, when I compose the font size is 16, how do I solve this problem.

I receive an email and wish to forward a reply. I click forward and begin to compose a response. However, the font size is 16, despite the fact that my tool box settings are established as 12. What can I do to compose in the font size of 12?

It is web-mail using Firefox. Thanks for any help you might suggest.

  • PS CS6 Beta - Crop tool problems

Generally, i think the new crop tool is pretty good. However, i'm having some problems with predefined sizes / areas.Let me try to explain:
    1. For example, I have a scanned image that is 26.14 x 20.32 cm @300ppi
    2. I have defined a size called 'Half Page' which is 23.5 x 15.5 cm @300ppi
Now, what i would expect is that:
    1. The moment i open the scanned image, click the crop tool and select the 'Half Page' setting, the crop boundaries would show up up at the correct setting in terms of size and resolution.
    2. I should then have a window within which i could move the image to get the parts i want into the crop box.
    This is not happening:
    1. The crop size (box) is showing as 23.5 x 15.5.
    2. The info is showing as 26.14 x 17.24
    3. The image size is showing the same and @ 300ppi.
Obviously, i'm probably doing something wrong or else...
    Grateful for any help!
    Cheers!

Further Noel... just tried setting the predetermined box in pixels... same problem...
What seems to happen is that the largest dimension reverts to the image boundary, while the smaller dimension crops into the image. This despite my setting the ppi to 300 - the same as the image's ppi.
The way i look at it, when i set a predertimed size, the crop box should be at that size... particularly, as you suggested, when i have pixels selected as my dimensions. And my rulers are also set to pixels.
    The latest attempt as follows:
    1. Image size is 20.32 x 26.14cm @300ppi (2400x3087 pixels)
    2. Crop size is set to 1831 x 2776 pixels (ppi setting enabled to 300 and rulers are also in pixels)
What happens is the crop box defaults to the full height of the image and crops in at the sides. Info box shows: W:1831, H: 2776. But it's encomapssing the full 3087 pixels (height) of the original image.
The way i look at it i should get a crop box that is smaller than the image and now should be able to move the image around to gt th crop i want. This way i still have to crop into the image and it's then resampling the image.
    Cheers...

  • Page cropping problem in Acrobat XI

I have a title built in InDesign that I export in PDF for the printer. I discovered over successive runs that I needed to shift the y axis a tad and widen the gutter to get the best production results. Here is the routine for doing so in Acrobat Pro IX:
    in Acrobat
Document /Crop Pages / Change Page Size / Custom: width 6 in; height 9 in. [ set for each operation ]
Adjust y-axis (height) of text block
    Y offset: - 0.15 (check shift visually)
    Page range = all
apply to: odd and even pages
    Adjust recto x-axis placement
    X offset: + 0.13  (check shift visually)
    Page range = all
    apply to: odd pages only
    Adjust verso x-axis placement
    X offset: - 0.13  (check shift visually)
    Page range = all
    apply to: even pages only
I had to produce an new PDF body file for the first time since switching to CC (Acrobat XI), and when I finally found the page cropping dialogue, the above routine blew up the book completely. There wasn't a single character visible in 300+ pages. I take it that Acrobat XI has different ideas about cropping pages, but I couldn't see where the problem lies. The dialogue boxes look the same. The commands are the same. Only the results are different. ??
    Any help much appreciated.

This usually means the file is corrupt, probably because it was not created
using a standard application like Adobe Acrobat.

  • After a re-install, it is impossible in Photoshop CS4 Extended to give a preset size to the Crop Tool. How can I het it back?

After a re-install of Photoshop CS4 Extended, because of problems with my iMac, it is impossible to give a preset size to the Crop Tool. How is that possible - and how can I repair that?

Did you trash the Photoshop's preferences before re-installing?
Reinstalling without trashing the preferences is futile, as you still have all the corruption there.
Quit Photoshop now and trash preferences:
Hold down Command, Option, and Shift keys while starting up Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences/settings file.  Click on yes.

  • Crop tool, image is hidden by grey box!

I am having a problem with crop tool, image is hidden by grey box.  Using LR4 on Win7.
I have cropped successfully many times before, but a couple days ago, I suddenly had this strange problem.
I assume I must have accidentally changed some setting by an accidental keystroke or something else?
I have tried opening and closing Lightroom several times.  I have the same problem on all images I try to crop.
I cannot figure out why. Please advise!  thanks!!!

If you leave the resolution box blank, whether the crop tool resamples or not then depends on the size units you choose in the width and height boxes. If pixel units are entered, the original resolution is preserved and resampling must occur to effect that. If inches are used, resampling does NOT occur.

  • I use PSE 9 and i just recently encountered a problem trying to crop a photo. I can't find the crop tool. What am I doing wrong?

I have been using PSE for quite a while but I am not a power user. I often use the crop tool to trim unwanted elements and set the size for the paper I want to use. When I opened a photo to edit yesterday the crop tool was not there. There is a tool named recompose but if I click it I cannot make any adjustments. I do not know if other functions are affected and I have no idea how to check them. I have no idea what caused this problem and would appreciate any assistance in resolving the problem.

Which operating system are you using?
The Crop Tool shares the same tool slot in the toolbox with the Recompose Tool.
You should be able to Left click and hold on the toolbox icons to see the fly-out menus for the tools that share the same slots.
Tools in the toolbox that have other tools in the same slot have a little black arrow to the right of the tool icons.
One can also use Shift+C to switch between the Crop and Recompose Tools.

  • Preset crop tool not matching image size after crop.

I am a labtech at a community college and look after 48 mac pros in which the students use the entire creative suite. (I only mention this becuase any answers need to consider variations in system settings or photoshop settings. college students get into everything!)
But the issue is when you select the crop tool and enter a custom constraint and crop
The image size is sometimes a full 2 inches off of what you set as a crop?! I havn't run into this before, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
[I do know you can use the drop down box and use {size and resolution} but I want to know why it doesnt work under custom and unconstrained]
    Thank you again.

Looks  like you are just setting the aspect ratio. You need to enter units of measure (8 in X 9 in) to crop to a specific print size.

  • Is there a way to create an action or keyboard shortcut to set Crop tool to the front window size?

Is there any way to create an action or keyboard shortcut to set the Crop tool to the front window size in Photoshop CS6?
I find that I use that several times a day. I got used to it being the top choice in the Crop tool presets menu.
    Thanks.

It depends on whether you have the cloud version or perpetual license version.
For the cloud version press  I (eye)
For the perpectual version press  F

One suggestion worked from the Firefox prints incorrectly link mentioned above by mha007. I'm thrilled since this has been annoying me for weeks. Thanks mha007!
    Reset all Firefox printer settings
    # Open your profile folder:
    # On the menu bar, click on the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
    # Under the Application Basics section, click on Show in Finder. A window with your profile folder will open.
    # Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
    # On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Quit Firefox.
    # In your profile folder, copy the prefs.js file to another folder to make a backup of it.
    # Open the original prefs.js file in a text editor (such as TextEdit).
    # Remove all lines in prefs.js that start with print. and save the file.
    # If something goes wrong when you open Firefox, close it again and overwrite prefs.js with the backup you made.
