Pages freezes when closing a document

When I click either the red dot or the "close" from the dropdown,  I get the rainbow circle of death and I have to Force Quit.   Any solutions?

YES!  I had never made this connection before because it was so rare that Pages didn't crash on me that I didn't believe I could replicate instances of "non-crashing" window closing.  But I opened  eight or ten documents and closed them just fine as long as I didn't print or open the print dialog box.  However, when I ran through jaydisc procedure, I experienced crashes EVERY TIME.  I almost always print the document I'm working on so that's why it seems like it happens all the time.
So why is this happening and how can it be fixed?  Is it a particular printer?  Obviously not everyone is having this problem. What is the common denominator?   Have you had any help from Apple's iWork team on this?  I have sent them logs and documents but still haven't heard back from them.

  • Pages freezes when opening a document or starting a new one

    Hi Forumfolk,
    I'm having a new issue with Pages downloaded from the App Store onto my iMac 3.06Gz core duo.
    It's worked fine in the past, but today it's freezing up when either I try to open an existing document or start a new document using the template chooser.
    I tried deleting the application and having the App Store reinstall it, but the problem persists.
    Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Many thanks!

    OK
    Now we know that the problem is somewhere in the global part of the system.
    It will be difficult to guess what is wrong because I bought iWork '09 in january 2009 so I don't know for sure what is installed when Pages is bought from App Store.
    May you check that the folder :
    <startupVolume>:Library:Application Support:iWork '09:Frameworks
    exists on your machine and has the contents displayed on the screenshot :
    Don't worry, in English, Bibliothèque is spelled Library.

    this does not happen with everything, but with the majority of documents. these are not big documents. only 100 kb or so. is anyone else having this problem? i just bought my new imac and iwork '08 at the end of december. i never had this problem with my imac g5 and iworks '05.

    Pages crashes when opening any document on iPad 3 Latest version. I tried everything I could find on the net and finally deleted Pages from my device and reinstalled it. Still when I try to create a new document or open a document it just crashes out.

    Try this:
    Make sure IOS is updated to latest version
    Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
    If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • My adobe acrobat XI Pro has been constantly freezing when I open documents.

    My adobe acrobat XI Pro has been constantly freezing when I open documents. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, changed some settings based on community threads, nothing is working. I have to close the document, open it back up and wait at least 60 seconds before I can do anything. I use Adobe pdfs for everything this is very bad. I am using MS Office 365, and Adobe CC on Windows 8.1.

    Hi Kate,
    Please refer to this KB doc. for the solution Application, file icons change to Acrobat/Reader icon

  • Since installing Maverick, Pages freezes when saving

    Since I installed Maverick, I can no longer use pages because there is no way to save my documents. Every time I try to save one, Pages freezes. The little wheel goes round and round indefinitely. When I check Pages on the activity monitor, it says Pages is not responding. I have send data to Apple every time this happens but have gotten no response. So, how do I get Pages back to operating properly?
    Also, I thought I read that Apple gave a free update to iWorks at the same time they introduced Maverick. I can't find it in the App Store. Where can I find it? Perhaps that will get Pages working again.

  • Issue with Adobe Reader XI Freezing when Printing/Opening Documents

    I've been having problems with Adobe Reader XI freezing when I attempt to print documents. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times. I've gone back to previous versions. I've disabled protected mode. I've run Adobe reader without background programs running. I've done a disk clean-up, and deleted temporary files. All to no avail. Is there anyone who can help me solve this problem.

    There's no built-in function in Reader that does that, but it can be done using a script.

  • Acrobat crashes when closing a document.

    I have developed a simple Acrobat Addin, which adds a menu item and a toolbar button. The active document will be closed when this menu item or toolbar button is clicked.The document is closed using the function "AVDocClose".
    Acrobat crashes when AVDocClose is invoked from toolbar button and works fine when invoked from menu item. This happens only when "Show each document in its own window" is checked and in the version 8.0 Professional. Works fine in 7.0. The crash has occured in Acrobat.dll.
    Is this crash a known Acrobat issue in 8.0?
    OS : Windows XP
    Thanks,
    Partha

    The only  plug-ins installed are the default ones that came installed with Acrobat.  All of these are developed by Adobe, so i'm assuming your are not referring to these as "3rd party".  All custom plug-ins have been uninstalled with the exception of the Stamper sample to test this theory.  Quite literally this can be reproduced by adding  the following code to the "ToolActivate" method in StamperUI.cpp.  This is the method that is wired into both the MenuItem and Button click events by default in this sample.  When this code is executed by a MenuItem event, no issue at all.  When this code is executed by a button click event, an exception is thrown from Acrobat.exe.  Note that the exception is not thrown from the ToolActivate method, it is thrown at some point after this method completes.
    AVDoc avDoc = AVAppGetActiveDoc();
    if (avDoc != NULL)
    AVDocClose(avDoc, true);
    As you can see, no objects are being acquired in this code.  If AVDocClose is not executed, no issues at all.  Although that goes against what i am attempting to do (as a result of a Button click, i need to be able to close the AVDoc).
    Any thoughts as to root cause of this issue?
    Karl, i really appriciate your assistance!  Thanks.

  • Multiple Portal Authentication when closing Word document

    Hi all,
    We are on EP6 SP2 Patch4 HF7 and CM HF6.  When closing a MS Word document accessed from the KM Repository multiple Portal authentication popups appear.  This only happens to Word documents.  Other documents like Excel, Powerpoint, pdf etc. close without any popups.
    The problem only happens when going through the IISProxy filter.
    Does anybody have any ideas ?
    Thanks

  • Iphone 4s wifi disconnects randomly and setting page freezes when trying to enter wifi networks

    After the Ios 7.0.3 update, this started happening. I'm using wifi then suddenly it disconnects from it, and when I go to scan for wifi, the setting page freezes upon touching the wifi network and it crashes. and when It doesn't lfreeze, I can't see any wifi network although the router is within 5 feet from my location. after some time the wifi comes back again for 10 minutes and then it does the same thing.

    Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, then try joining again and you should get the password prompt.

  • Iphone4 freezes when closing multitasking apps. Unacceptable

    Has anyone noticed that when you have a number of apps running, and you continuously tap the "x" to close out of them, the iPhone freezes even though the icons keep wiggling. It takes the phone about 2 minutes to unfreeze, or I have to restart it. This doesn't only happen if you have a ton of apps running, sometimes it happens randomly when closing out of just one app. It happens on my iPhone 4. Software bug? Anyone else having this issue?

    Wow dude I was responding to this before and my phone froze but this time it was weird, it froze while I was typing and like just stood there for two min then the screen turned red and turned off it's fine right now, but what i was going to say was that imm have to deal with mine cause this is my second iPhone 4 since I dropped it and cracked my first and an apple store employee was nice enough to replace it with this one so I'm guessing it's refurbished so I don't know if I can take it in, I guess I'm scared they won't do anything or might even take this one back since I wasn't covered by the warranty of cracks and I think it would be even worse with a refurbished so I don't know

  • Pages Freezes when I try to edit a document

    So.. I create a new document, populate it with text and photos, mask some images, etc.
    I save it and email it as a PDF with no problems.
    When I try to open it later in pages, it seems to open as it should, but when I try to go into it to edit text, paste new photos, etc., I get the spinning beach ball and "force quit" tells me that Pages is not responding. I'm using pages 3.0.1 and can't figure out what to do.
    Please Help!

    Hi Paul,
    I've repaired permissions and reset PRAM. Occasionally, pages will open the document and operate correctly; but most of the time, not. I also removed an illustration from Illustrator CS3 which may be "unfriendly" to Pages.
    Biggest change to G5 is the latest round of Apple software updates and the intel firmware update.
    I'm still stumped.

  • Problem with Macro Running When Closing a Document

    Hi Folks;
    I'm trying to develop a Visio macro that runs when I close a document, but I've run into a snag...
    The problem is that the code below only works when I press the 'X' in the corner of the document to close it.  If I try to close it using
    File -> Close, I get the error "Run Time Error -2032464741 (86db0c9b) An exception occurred", and the debugger highlights the first 'Application' line.
    I need the code to work regardless of the close operation, and I'm not sure how to make that happen (since I assumed it should've work the same regardless).
    Private Function Document_QueryCancelDocumentClose(ByVal doc As IVDocument) As Boolean
    Document_QueryCancelDocumentClose = True
    If MsgBox("If you made changes, did you UPDATE the Diagram History? (Select Yes if no changes were made)", vbYesNo + vbCritical + vbDefaultButton2, "Warning - DIAGRAM HISTORY UPDATED?") = vbYes Then
    Application.ActiveDocument.Pages.ItemU("Diagram").Layers.Item("Warning").CellsC(4) = 1
    Document_QueryCancelDocumentClose = False
    Else
    Document_QueryCancelDocumentClose = True
    End If
    End Function
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Zang

    I'm betting your typical "try this" response is not what anyone wants.  But since you've chimed in... my problems with the Visio event model are PLENTY.  Print and save events that cannot be cancelled, document close that doesn't fire on application
    close, and Application.BeforeDocumentSaveAs that occurs WAY AFTER the document has been saved are just a few.  (Did Microsoft even test these events??)  The official Microsoft response to ALL of this was, in a word, "repurpose" it. Essentially they
    advocate completely rewriting the actual Save and Print portions of the interface and corresponding logic in Visio by intercepting keystrokes and redirecting ribbon extensibility idMso ="FileSave" and idMso ="FileSaveAs" commands to your own methods.
    To quote paid support:
    "You may repurpose Save command in Visio as suggested in my previous email, however there is a design limitation that does not allow repurposing Print backstage button.
    In order to achieve Visio Print repurpose, the workaround is to hide the print back stage altogether and plug with custom backstage ribbon xml."
    We now also repurpose idMso="FilePrintQuick", idMso="FilePrintPreview", and idMso="FileClose" customUI commands, but we still had to use the logic above to catch save before closing.
    Valid methods that work while Visio is active will fail within Application close.  IT IS A BUG IN VISIO.  That is what this post is about.

    Any help would be appreciated. When I try to save a document while in Word 2004 the application freezes and I have to force quit. Thankfully I can print the file as a PDF before trying the save as route but this is still a problem. What's the issue? Anyone have advice?

    Welcome to the Forum.
    It could be a corrupt preference file. You can try downloading the free Preferential Treatment (not certain if it's Universal) to run a check. Or you can do a Finder search for your Word preference file (it will have .plist at the end of it) drag it to the desktop, relaunch Word and attempt to save something.
