Pages will not open

So about 2 months ago I had some software updates from apple. It popped up oh so merrily and insisted on being installed. So I chose to do so and let it go on its happy way to updating the many different things it updates ...and that's where all the problems happened.
After it had finished updating it asked to be restarted as per and when it did, it continually shut down loaded up to the apple logo and restarted. Luckily I was able to fix this after booting in safe mode and restarting from there.
But that was not the only problem this oh-so-wonderful software update has given me. I cannot access pages now. I click on it and a pop up window comes up with the message
"The application Pages quit unexpectedly"
I try to relaunch from the options it gives me but it comes up with the same pop up window.
So far I have tried reinstalling the iworks, repair permissions from the install disc and download the 10.6.6 combo (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349) but all with no success. I am completely baffled as to what this could be and feel very reluctant to dish out money (as I am no longer under warranty) for the problem when this was completely out of my control and something to do with apple and its software updates.
The only other information I can provide that has something to do with this is some of the report text that my mac sends to apple.
"Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: @rpath/Inventor.framework/Versions/C/Inventor
Referenced from: /Library/Application Support/iWork '09/Frameworks/SFCompatibility.framework/Versions/A/SFCompatibility
Reason: image not found"
Please help.
What could this be? and would anyone know of a solution to my frustrating problem?

Repairing permissions apply always to the entire HD.
In fact it apply to apps installed by Apple delivered installer.
So, now we know that the problem is a global one and that repairing permissions doesn't kill it.
I assume that you used also Maintenance to clear the caches files.
I think to an other possible cause : conflict between fonts.
Run Fontbook to scan the installed fonts.
It will flag :
• possible corrupted oned
• possible conflicts between duplicate fonts.
Ask it to resolve these possible problems and let us know if it changes the apps behavior.

How can I retrieve my Word docs now that Pages will not open them in Mavericks. I have a brand new iMac with my evolving manuscript for a book transsferred from my now defunct MacBook Pro by external drive. Pages tells me that "PowerPC apps are "no longer supported" and Mavericks will not open Microsoft Office, though it is still in Applications. Would really appreciate ANY help!

You will have to have an app that will open them first, you can upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 which is an Intel based app then open the docs and retry. Your docs were created with extremely old version of Office for Mac, version 2004!
Another possiblity is using a web based compatible MS Office for Mac app and see if it will open your doc and then save it, then attempt to re-open in Pages.

That can be a symptom of a poorly performing DNS. E.g. IE tries a lookup but doesn't wait long enough to get the answer; meanwhile the lookup proceeds, gets cached, etc.; so now when you try your "refresh" it is all there ready to go. Unfortunately,
I don't think there is any way of tuning your TCP to avoid this symptom. A workaround would be trying a different DNS. (A related workaround is to avoid a DNS relay to your router and make the OS aware of your real DNS.) A way of changing
the symptom is to always do enough in a cmd window to ensure a complete lookup is cached before you make your first request using IE, (e.g. using ping -n 1 because you don't care at that point if there
is connectivity for ICMP). But there may be problems doing that, depending on aliases and redirects and short Time To Live values.
Post some details for a specific publicly accessible example, if you would like to see how these ideas could work with it.

Pages will not open at all?!?

I'm really frustrated because Pages will not open at all, nothing happens when I click on the icon it's not until I click on the Force Quit to find out it's not responding. I am running Mac OS X 10.8.4. I have tried restarting my mac, deleting and uninstalling Pages. Please help, school is starting soon...

That is Pages '09.
Then you have damaged .plist (preference) files.
Delete
User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork09.Installer.plist & com.apple.iWork09.plist
You may have to hold down the option key as you click on the Go menu in Finder to see your Library.

You probably have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 in your Applications folder, will open Pages '09 files but will alter/damage them. It can not open Pages '08 files.
Pages '08/'09 in your Applications/iWork folder which can not open Pages 5 files.
When you were shutting down you probably had an unsaved document open.
You probably are opening the wrong versions of Pages to open the wrong document format.
Pages 5 has had over 90+ features removed.
Most users are going back to Pages 09 whilst Apple sorts this out.

Pages will not open on iPad. Icon just flashes and then nothing. Numbers works great. Pages works on iPne great.

The app is crashing for some reason. Even though it is only flashing and will not open, it may still show up in the task bar. So try quitting Pages and then restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps.
Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

I am so sorry to hear that you cannot open some web pages by typing a URL.
Please supply some specific examples, so other Readers can try them to see what the problem might be. Trial and error is impossible.

I have a similar problem. I upgrated to Maverick a couple weeks ago and at that time I saw a very different appearance to my Pages documents, especially my book lists. Numbers appeared at the left side of the pages. All seemed well. Now the last few times I've tried to open those documents, I get the message that "YOU NEED A NEWER VERSION OF PAGES TO OPEN THIS DOCUMENT. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION OF PAGES FROM THE MAC APP STORE". I can't figure out how or why the version reverted back to the way it was. That message doesn't always come though. Some documents I can open but some I can't open at all. If I click LEARN MORE, I am directed to the APP STORE where I can buy Pages 5.0.1 for $19.99!!!!! What the heck is going on????? Am I going to have to pay for pages where Maverick was FREE.

There is a problem with Apple’s servers that only they can fix. The problem has been going on for several days. You can try rebooting first and see if that gets the apps to show up in the updates tab.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
This is a workaround only and not a fix. If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
1. Go to App Store
2. Select Purchased
3. Select All
4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
Select update on the Apps
Hopefully the red notification number will go away after the updates are applied.
Another option is to update your apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the updated apps to the iPad.
1. Launch iTunes
2. Click on Apps in the list under the Library heading in the left Sidebar.
Click on Updates at the top in the window on the right
Update all of the apps
Connect your iPad and Sync with iTunes
If you do not see the sidebar in iTunes 11 - go to View>Show Sidebar from the iTunes menu at the top.

hello, the most likely cause is a firewall/security program preventing firefox from accessing the internet. see [[Firewalls]] for information on how to configure them correctly.
also make sure that firefox is set to directly connect to the internet in firefox > options > advanced > network > connection - settings... in there "no proxy" should be selected for normal use cases.

Page will not open with default PDF viewer of preview

Installed adobe, did not like..removed. Now PDF page for local newspaper will not open default of preview reader, keeps looking for adobe. Want to make certain Preview is default PDF viewer, it look like it is..but how to get page to open like it did previous to installing/removing adobe.

look in HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ & move/trash the Adobe PDF viewer plugin; restart any browsers & things should behave again.

Pages will not open a downloaded .pages document from iCloud because index.xml file not found?

New to using iCloud. I created a large pages document on Mac Air and saved it to my iCloud account. Found it at home on desktop Mac and downloaded it. No problem. However, it will not open due to the index.xml file not being found. What should I do to open this document? I've tried several things and no luck yet. Thanks for any tips! :-)

Pages will not open now that I installed it over a trial

I have been perusing the previous posts, but cannot find the exact problem I am experiencing.
I entered the serial number when I click "Buy" and all seemed dandy. Problem is, when I try and open Pages, there are no templates under "New", the projects I created when I had the free trial will not open, and there is no Pages help. In short, it seems like it is there, but it's not there.

When you deleted "everything" did you delete the receipts for Pages & Keynote? When the trial first became available I wrote the user tip that's at the top of this forum, Peggy, "iWork: Cant install iWork after using the iWork trial", 07:38am May 20, 2005 CDT. It has since been amended, but the original info is in the section "Should the above not work" & details all the pieces that would need to be deleted before reinstalling.

EDIT: The installer is finding something that you didn't that tells it iWork is installed.

HTML Config Page will not open

Hello, I am running Yoesmite, 10.10.3 and cannot get the HTML Config page to open to set up my HP 1102W printer wirelessly. This problem started when I set up my printer to an airport time capsule. When I had an airport extreme I had no problems with my wireless setup and printing using air print. After connecting my 1102W to my laptop via USB, my printer is recognized in the Print Scan window found in system preferences. However whenever I choose utility, the HTML config page does not open. No error messages occur. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi , I see that you are having issues opening the HTML Config Page. I will certainly do my best to help you. Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. (sometimes the EWS won't open if it isn't set as the default)Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.You will probably have to delete and add the USB driver back in again in Printers and Scanners to get the HTML to open. You may have to delete and readd the printer again as a USB connection again, then try and open the HTML again. If you haven't already restore the old network settings on the printer, here are the directions. 1. Turn the product off.
2. Press and hold the wireless button and the cancel button and then turn the product on.
3. Hold the buttons until the printer stops making noise, then release the buttons. If you still can't open the HTML config, then update the printer's firmware. There isn't one available for 10.10 at this time, so you would have to use a older Mac or a Windows computer to do this. HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer. All my pages docs are in the cloud I dont know how to get them out the cloud to load into pages on my computer either so any help with either of these problems would be great
