PAL ???? HELP!

I exported a sequence and used Compressor to compress it, as I always do. When I tried to import the compressed file to DVD Studio Pro, it was telling me that it couldn't import a PAL file into a NTSC project! Why does DVD Studio Pro think this is a PAL sequence? It's certainly not!
Here's the original sequence's properties: H.264 Decoder 1920 X 1080 FPS:25 Data rate: 56.34 mbits/s

It sounds like you've tried to use one of the "HD DVD" presets in Compressor. Don't - they're no good to you. Use the standard definition DVD presets such as "90 minute best quality" (or whatever applies to you). Check your frame rate in FCP first, make sure it's correct before you take it to Compressor and DVDSP.

I'm fairly new to the iMovie package, i had used it about two years ago while editing a movie for a college class and everything was set-up for us.
Anyway, i spent all day yesterday editing a project for my univeristy course. The problem is, when i come to "share" the project in iDVD it says that it's an incorrect format to burn as the discs are PAL... do i want to continues (i did).
The project burned to a DVD disc, and works fine in my home dvd player (but i think that's because it's multiregion). is there anyway to make sure it has burned to Pal and works on all dvds that aren't multiregion?

in your workflow (iMovie/iDVD), what is PAL and what is NTSC? Is the iMovie project NTSC and you want to burn a PAL DVD?
If so, that is possible in iDVD (and from what I read you have done so). You'll find the setting for the TV standard in iDVD's preferences: "New projects are ...". Note that this setting takes place only for new projects. A project's setting can be verified by choosing Project > Show Project Info from the menu.
Note: the conversion done by iDVD doesn't produce the best quality. For better results you might want to have a look at JES Deinterlacer:

Do not confuse TV standard with region codes. iDVD creates DVD's that are enabled for all 6 regions, so there's no problem with that. Most newer DVD players in PAL - land will play NTSC discs, but not all of them and there might be problems, such as the DVD being shown in black & white.

Exported from Premiere as NTSC, but Encore thinks it's PAL - Help!

Exported from Premiere Pro to Encore with the following settings:
NTSC, 720x480, 29.97 drop frame [fps], Lower, Quality 4.5
48 kHz, 16 bit, PCM
VBR, 1 Pass, Min 2.02, Target 4.78, Max 7.00 [Mbps]
But!... when I open the project in Encore, it only lists PAL options. For example, if I try adding a menu, it adds the PAL version instead of the NTSC version (which does exist in the Library folder). If I remove all the PAL menu files from the Library folder, then it doesn't list any menus at all for this project (except a couple HD ones) - ie, it's ignoring the NTSC menus.
Also, if I look at the Transcode Settings, the only choices are PAL.
NOTE: I already have NTSC set as the Default Television Standard in Encore General Preferences.
Why does Encore think the video is PAL? How can I make it think otherwise without redoing the whole export in Premiere?

Mistakenly changed from NTSC to PAL - Help!

My display settings on my mac mini were changed from NTSC to PAL (all i will say is that it involved a 3 year old) and now i can't get an output to my display. how do i change this??

Try starting in Safe mode. If that works, change the resolution from whatever is the starting resolution to another choice. For example, if it comes up at 640 x 480 NTSC, change to 800 x 600 NTSC. Then restart normally. Hopefully that will get things back to the way they were before.

1080i60 to PAL Help

hi,
sorry for the detailed queston, but i wasn't able to find an answer to all of this. and it's been a few years since i was deep in video production/formats!
i have some footage in FCP thats hd1080i60 (1440 x 1080). it needs to go to PAL. i'm not sure if there are hd PAL formats, or if PAL is just PAL, 720 x 576 or 768 x 576...
anyway, what is the cleanest way to do this? create a new sequence in FCP that's set to PAL and render, or...?
also, is there a good online resource index for definitions and terminology with things like anamorphic, etc?

DVDSP user manual has a good Glosary (FCP and Compressor manual haven't !!).

NTSC - PAL - HELP

I live in central Europe but used to live in the US. I have analog video footage shot in the US on NTSC VHS cassette.
I want to send a DVD of this footage to Grandparents in UK. I have sucessfully imported into iMovie 6 using my (US) camcorder as a pass-thru converter from my multi-system (analog) VCR.
The DVD ends up being NTSC which I suspect they will not be able to watch in the UK.
I imported to iMovie then exported to iDVD.
Can anybody advise the best way to go...

the iLife suite uses internal the same codec as tape - dv.
so, stay with dv, in iM and esp. for converting into another viddeo standard and esp. for usage in iDVD otherwise you will realize a dramtaic loss of quality....
any codecs as mpgs are for playback only, are lossy and not meant for usage in iDVD....
video IS huge files. full stop.

Trying to render is crashing not only the software, but my entire computer!

I do a weekly webshow that I've been making with Premiere CS5 since November. In all that time I've never had any trouble but just this past Sunday I went to render in the H264 format I always use and the bar got to around 45% before the whole thing went tits up - the computer gave me a quick blue screen of death before restarting.
What I was able to glean from the blue screen was a suggestion that this could be due to a conflict with another piece of software. I don't install a lot of software on a regular basis, but recently I'd installed Tubeshack and - I admit - Team Fortress 2. I tried uninstalling Tubeshack and then rendering with the H264 format and the Level set to 5.0
Lucky me, I got a full render! Thinking the problem solved, I then tried to render a smaller file with the level at 4.1 (a lot of video upload sites have stingy upload limits).
The computer crashed again. Same blue screen. Same briefly displayed message about "HEY MAYBE THIS IS A SOFTWARE CONFLICT I DON'T KNOW MAN". I was, however, able to render a tiny (15 seconds) stretch of my video without complaint. I tried deleting render files, thinking that folder had gotten too fat, but this made no difference.
I know my computer is up to snuff for what I'm asking of it and that those two programs I installed recently are the only changes I've made lately. I've run my anti-viral with no results and am getting a bit concerned as I have grander editing plans in the near future.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So here's where we're at - I had a far more tech savvy pal help me out, but everything he tried failed to get results. What follows is his log of the events that transpired, along with some specs:

One thing I'd like to add is that I cannot shake the feeling that some sort of resource has been slowly consumed over time. Why? Because when I first put the computer together I could preview video in Premiere in real-time. Over the year that followed the previews became slower and chunkier until finally this hoo-ha happened. I've tried hunting for a crowded temp file but no luck. I also tried "Clear Render Files" but it made no difference.

Need HELP FAST! Edited in FCP, need to burn a DVD of HD footage to SD PAL

I have tried to read the threads and sort out my problem, but no luck. I really hope someone can help.
Here's the gist....
I show up for a rehearsal for an event I have to shoot tomorrow. They asked me to shoot something today. I shot and edited a 10 minute video in HDV, 1080i, using FCP. I now need a PAL DVD that they can play about 10 hours from now. I exported using Compressor (not sure if I specified any type of audio) using mp2v settings for PAL. I can see it in the simulation, but no audio. it will also not let me burn a DVD to even check if the audio is there, saying it doesn't even FIND the video or audio, even though the file size is almost 400MB.
Any help or feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.

Put your HDV timeline in a DV sequence.
Export as a PAL DV (anamorphic 16:9)
Drop that file in iDVD. The latest version should encode it as 16:9.
Give to client.
In the meantime, do some reading on this forum regarding the HDV to DV translation as well as start at the beginning of the DVD Studio Pro manual. There is a lot of useful information contained here and there that you need to master.

NTSC to PAL (from 29fps to 25fps) need help

And I wasn't able to reply to it since it was closed... so here's my situation. I shot a music video on my Sony TRV-19 camcorder @ 29fps (not positive if it's Progressive or Interlaced, though my guess is Interlaced) and the lable in Europe needs it in PAL @ 25fps... so what I'm doing now is converting it through compressor @ the PAL settings 720/576 25fps...
Will I be able to view the PAL format on my computer? I'm in Canada now. What can I do to get that format to play properly in Europe, without any scanlines and loss of quality?
Is anyone willing to help me out? Appreciate your type folks.

I wouldn't recommend using Compressor. You might consider Nattress Standards Conversion.

Need help with EVENT BOOKING: option for multiple, payment (pay pal standard or pro only) add cost, etc

I'm at my wits end: please help! It seems straight forward, and I sold my client on BC thinking this was doable in the events module, but it seems maybe not so without a ton of custom coding.
1. Book an event online,
with option for multiple (say 1-5 people at a fixed cost per person),
and checkout using only Pay Pal (standard or pro, doesn't matter, but I think Standard won't work without shopping cart).
2. The events are every day but Sunday all year long (just admission to an attraction), so is there a way to upload months in advance so they don't have to be manually entered?
I'm so grateful for any assistance.

Help with PAL settings for Sequence

I’m having some issues with a PAL project and need some help with the right sequence settings. I have 3 camera angles that are all PAL that I am trying to edit together in a multi-clip sequence and everytime I add anything to the timeline I am getting the red render bar. I've tried all different PAL settings but nothing is working. Here are the specs of the DV clips:
Frame Size : 720 X 576
Vid Rate – 25 FPS
Compressor DV-PAL
Data Rate – 6.9mb/sec
Pixel Aspect – PAL – CCIR-601
Audio 48Khz
Aud Format – 32bit – Floating Point.

From the menu bar: Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup. What setting is selected there?
From the menu bar: Sequence > Settings. What setting is selected there?
In both cases they should be set to DV PAL.

NTSC vs PAL upcoming shoot- need help.

hi, i have a huge project coming up. some video shot in US other in Europe.
thinking of using AF-100 as well as a DSLR, as second camera cutaways.
want to use 1080 30p setting, ideally. question is, how do i handle shooting in europe? If i have a US crew and bring a NTSC camera, how shall it be shot given the 50hz vs 60hz issue? If i hire a crew in Europe using AF-100, it will be PAL but then how do I edit that footage along with stuff shot in US? much thanks.

personally I'd convert everything to PAL as I've always felt that I get slightly better results from NTSC to PAL conversions than vice versa ... but it also depends on your final output.
Since you're saying that you'll shoot with AF-100s and DSLRs, why not shoot everything in 24p and forget about standards conversions? And from what I hear you can even shoot overcranked 50/60p in 24p mode with the AF-100.
