Palm Desktop 6.2 crash.

I recently moved from a Dell desktop (windows XP) with Palm Desktop 4.1.4 for my Palm Tungsten E2.  I have had a Palm handheld and desktop software since before 2000 (back then on Mac) so I have much calendar and contact info I desperatly need to refer to and keep and never had any problems with either the handhelds, the desktops or the synch.
My new laptop is a HP G61, with Athlon II dual-core M300 2.0ghz running on Window 7 (64bit) which so far has been a dream to use.
I first installed Palm Desktop 6.2 on/about Jan 3rd.  It came up ok, and I then proceeded to sync with my handheld via bluetooth (as many features were again removed from this new version).  For the next few days all went well with the basics but 2 add-ons no longer working (DocsToGo and Worlmate).  Then I start up the desktop on friday morning (Jan 8th) and there was no Calendar, Address Book, Memos, ToDo, etc...  The only thing the desktop sofware was offering me was Media (said missing 2 files to operate properly) and Install.
I tried re-installing over it, then i removed it (using uninstall) and re-installed, then i uninstalled + deleted any folders/files with palm in it and re-installed.  Still only gives me those 2 icons and the Options menu gives me no other choices at start-up either.
What can i do to get a Palm Desktop to work on my new laptop AND synchronize with my handheld?  Please help me.

Right click the icon again go to compatibility and check the run as admin. Then open Palm Desktop from this icon and see if you see the other application in Palm Desktop.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 crashing on launch with Vista

    I've been using Desktop 6.2 with Vista for several months.  There seems to have been some bad old data on my TX as Desktop crashes when I go to month view in the datebook for August 2008 and earlier, but otherwise fine.
    Starting last week, the application will not fully open with a box stating "Palm Desktop by Access has stopped working" within 1/2 second hitting open.  I've been able to hotsync with no problem and no change.  I removed the application and reinstalled after re-downloading from Palm.  I've also tried logging on as an administrator with no help.
    Anyone have any suggestions?  Many thanks.

    I've run into the problem before but it's either been bad data or events spanning midnight. Usually in the month before or after the month that locks up the Palm desktop. You might want to check Sept and Nov for any events that span midnight.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 Crashes

    I have recently upgraded to Desktop 6.2 from 4.1 and successfully used it to synch my unlocked Treo 680.
    Today, while working in the Datebook calendar function Monthly View on my desktop, I tried to "Go To..." November, 2001 and the whole Desktop crashed.
    I restarted Desktop several times and moved easily around the calendar in Monthly View using "Go To..." for any date other than November, 2001.  But November, 2001 caused a crash every time.
    I switched views to Daily and Weekly and did not have any problems with the "Go To..." function to any date, including those in November, 2001.
    But as soon as I used Monthly View to Go To... November, 2001 the Desktop crashes.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 crashing under Vista

    I was running 4.1.4 and the alarm manager would crap out from time to time causing me to miss appointments.  I updated to desktop 6.2 and the alarm manager still craps out, but now the desktop also crashes!  If I view the calendar in months and skip back past June 2009 using the arrow keys around the month.  Is this software used for the newer Palm products?  It looks to me like Palm is all but ignoring this program.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2 crashing while editing appointments on Palm TX

    I have read every msg posted regarding this issue and finally had to give up and go back to Palm Desktop 4.1.1e (which by the way works fine).
    I did a Clean Uninstall of Palm Desktop 6.2 and installed 4.1.1e (my Palm TX came with a Palm Desktop 4.2 CD but on that version my appointments would not show on my PC).
    Then I synchronized the data back from my Palm TX to my PC and notice Hotsync error messages on all my repeat appointments (and some repeat tasks).
    Below is an example:
    - Palm Desktop does not admit appointments prior to 1970. The following date was moved to 1970: Franco`s Yearly Dr.'s appt, 8/31/2003, No time.
    I'm posting this hoping it can be of help in resolving this issue.  Tks!

  • Can't get my data out of palm tungsten c- palm desktop crashes

    I have been a tungsten c user for many years. Now that HP has discontinued support, I would like to get my data out and transfer it to anothr device. I have backed up with hotsync on a daily basis. When I load palm desktop (PD), it crashes. I have 4 computers: a Dell 700 m with win xp, an optiplex with win xp, an optiplex with vista and a toshibal laptop with win7 64 bit. I have downloaded new copies of palm desktop 4.4, and tried the access version of 6 something. The desktop loads, waits 2 seconds, then I get the message .. has created an error and has to close. I checked, the MA file is there and seems to have the correct date. How do I get my data out if palm desktop will not start?
    PS I disabled antivirus during installation, uninstalled the old version and rebooted before trying to open the PD.

    Well I went ahead and made separate methods to return each value. I suppose that will work just as well, especially since now I don't have to declare a bunch of strings and int's to hold the data and pass to the method.
    >
    Well this would never work anyway
    public void getData(String n, int num, String c, String d)None of those can be changed within the method. Strings are immutable and 'int' is passed by value. Each of those parameters will have the same value after the method exits as they did before it was called.
    Your book class should be using 'setters' to set the value of its instance variables.

  • Palm Desktop crashes when viewing one month in monthly view

    Hi--this is a weird problem. Never seen it before.
    --My Treo 680 (Win XP SP3), with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 seems to sync fine. I make changes in the Treo, it appears on the desktop.
    --Also, I can view and edit the desktop in DAY view.
    I normally default to monthly view though--and when I try to edit anything in a monthly view the Palm Desktop immediately crashes.This also seems to happen only with one month--July--where I recently added a lot of new appointments.
    I ran the "check" tool for corrupted records, came up clean.
    The data seems to be there and be safe and sync, but every time I try to access this one month from monthly view--it crashes.
    Any advice, suggestions?
    Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

    Your link generated an error message..but I did find a couple of relevant threads. Thanks..
    --I have no appointments spanning midnight, so I presume that's not the problem
    --I'm reluctant to downgrade versions. I use the same software on my Vista laptop as on my XP desktop and I'd like to confuse the issue or go through degrading both.
    The dbfix program was more interesting.  It found for Calendar: one appointment in several places that it said "blob goes beyond end of record."
    I don't know what that means, but it was particularly odd as this particular appointment was repeated in multiple years as long ago as 1969, it said--which goes beyond the ability of the desktop software even to access; certainly I wasn't using a Palm in 1969, and obviously it didn't exist. So I deleted all of them but for that 1969 one since the desktop will only go back to Jan 1970.
    After deleting what I could delete on the desktop, I sync'd.
    Didn't help.
    I ran the program again and the exact same older--presumbably fictitious-appointments from old years like 2007 were still coming up as checked errors. Hmmm. Apparently deleting them on the desktop helped not at all. So now I deleted one on the 680 as a test.
    I sync'd. Immediately crashed the Palm, but when it came came back up. I doublechecekd--that 2007 record was now gone from everything, desktop and PDA. I syncd again,,,went through fine this time.
    Ran dbfix again to check--just coming with that one 1969 inexplicable error.  Ran Palm Desktop now. Ran the Options/Tools/Check record on the desktop (included utility) just to be sure--no errors.
    The final test--running Palm Desktop back in monthly view.  Immediately crashed again.
    Shrug!
    Now, I don't mind buying the dbfix program if that'll do it, but does this seem like something it needs to go through and might actually fix, as opposed to my manually deleting the things?

  • Palm Desktop crashes on calendar 'month' view

    I am running Desktop by ACCESS 6.2.2 on WinXP with AT&T Centro.  There are random months in my desktop calendar that cause the desktop to crash when I select the 'Month' view (June '08, April '07, Nov '08).  I can't find any common trend unique to these months, the 'day' and 'week' views work fine for these months.  I have searched this forum and found a couple similar symptoms but no real solutions.  I have uninstalled/re-installed Desktop, but no change.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Paul.

    I've been having the same problem with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on XP with my Centro.  So I split up all the events that spanned midnight, as HardBeatZ suggested, and if fixed three of the six months that crashed.  I've also run dbfixit, as he suggested in another thread, which found no corrupted records.  Any other suggestions?  I saw in that other thread (http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&message.id=27310&query.id=29789) the idea of trashing the months and re-entering events, but that seemed to be a different problem with Vista.
    I see the suggestion here by patkosanke to revert to 4.1.4, which is what I previously had for my Tungsten E.  What about all the warnings with my Centro that I had to install the included 6.2.2?  Are those warnings not true for XP?  And what about the change from dat to mdb files, if I were to revert?  Reverting seems to postpone the inevitable transition to Vista, though.
    Also, it seemed to me that 6.2.2 had more fields for phone numbers, for which I reformatted bunches of my contacts -- previously I had doubled up on some, but that doesn't allow them to be dialed.  Is that a change from 4.1, in which case reverting might kill those fields, or is that possibly a change from my even earlier IIIx?
    Thanks,
    John S.

  • Corrupt datebook file - palm desktop crashes

    I suddenly began having touble opening my palm desktop in Vista.  I downloaded the new version without improvement.  I then found this thread, which helped to some degree:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=software&thread.id=22183
    I posted my problem there, but it maybe it is not getting viewed, so I will repost my problem here.  It looks like my datebook file is corrupt, and I don't know how to fix it.
    Here is the whole series of events:
    Based on the directions by HardBeatZ from the link above, I deleted the datebook and address files from my palm folder.  The desktop software then launched fine.  I put the memo app as default.  At this time I could access the (emtpy) address and datebook parts without problems. I then put back the address.mdb and datebook.mdb files and ran corrupted file tool - it didn't find any errors.  When I go to the datebook on the desktop, the program crashes.  (It goes to the addresses just fine). I deleted the datebook file again and renamed the datebook.mdb.bak file to be the datebook.mdb file. The program worked fine (could access datebook on desktop). I then hotsynched again....and crash city when going to the datebook.  I tried re-running the corrupted file tool wihtout success. What now? It seems like the current datebook file, when downloaded from my treo, is corrupt (works fine in the treo, btw).
    The datebook backup file is about 1 month, old, BTW, but I use the datebook fairly regularly and would rather not lose the changes over the last month if possible.  Suggestions?

    The next step is one that I normally wouldn't recommend, but I think in your case it might be necessary. Since you have everything backed up on one computer. Just delete everything that is in June on your Vista machine (you can do this by deleting everything on your handheld and syncing with handheld overwrites desktop) then see if June opens fine, if it does just manually put your data back in. I know it is a lengthy process, but I'm out of ideas

    I was thinking of doing that, but wanted to see if you had any more tricks up your sleeve!  I compromised, and went through the my June events and deleted the ones I did not care about necessarily keeping.  I left the important ones.  I figured it was worth a shot - if things worked, I was done.  If not, I would keep deleting until the month of June was event-free....  I am happy to say, that one of those less important events must have been the problem, because now the desktop software works fine!

  • Palm Desktop Private Memos cause crash

    I have been using a password on some of the Memos on the Palm Desktop (v4.2.0).
    Recently when I try to open a Private Memo by typing in a password,
    the password entry field shows vertical slots ie " IIIII " instead of the normal bullet dots.
    Then when I press OK, the Palm Desktop locks up, need to shut it down with CAltDel.
    The private memo records on the Palm TX works OK, it's just the Desktop that has the problem.
    I tried repair, I tried reinstall.
    I also sync the same TX with a second PC at work, and it works OK, so I assume there is some incompatibility or corruption with first PC?
    Is this a known problem with a quick fix? before I go through the registry and strip out all Palm references and reinstall fresh.
    (Hint - This for me is a sure fire solution when all else fails. ie it got an iPod talking to iTunes again after months of trying everything else).
    Thanks.
    Post relates to:

    Anytime you sync to more then one PC you have the potential for data corruption. From you statement it appears that the device is syncing to the second PC without problems. I think I would uninstall the Palm Desktop on the PC with a problem and then sync your data back to this PC with a fresh install of the Palm DT. Here are the steps for a clean uninstall and reinstall.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
    For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for the folders and files, my documents, PalmOS desktop. You will find the username folder in this location.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
    from your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
    you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

  • Palm Desktop Software Crashing during Export

    Everytime I try to export my address data to a vCard file, the Palm Desktop software crashes and closes without exporting any data. Any ideas why this is occurring? I have tried reinstalling the latest Palm Desktop software without any effect. I am using a Mac (OS X 10.4.x).

    I have used my Palm Desktop for a year or more without syncing to my Palm TX.

    1. You can change the conduits in Hotsync to Desktop over writes handheld. Just right click the hotsync icon by the clock and go to Custom. Each of the conduits should be listed double click them and move the radio button to Desktop overwrites handheld.
    2.The Palm desktop version that came with the E does not have that feature on Vista. Also the version of Docs to go that came with the E doesn't support Office 2007 documents.
    3. Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced. You should contact either Palm or a 3rd party repair vendor like Pdaparts.

  • Palm Desktop crashes on startup

    Hello,
    I am running Palm Desktop 6.2.2.0 under Win Vista, and have been for years. I have not installed any new software on either my Palm TX or my PC in weeks, maybe months. This morning I could open Palm Desktop just fine, this evening it crashes -- in MemoPad.dll. I ran DBFixIt but it finds no problems in my memos, and I can open all of them on my Palm. But every time I try to start up the desktop, I get a Windows APPCRASH box. Can anyone offer any suggestions where I should look? Many thanks!
    Post relates to: Palm TX

    Sounds like your data has been corrupted, possibly your calendar,
    There is a few things to try.
    1. If your default calendar view is the month, I would do this step first. Change your date on your computer to two months in the future or past, then try to relaunch palm desktop. Let me know if it launches and I will tell you how to fix that.
    2. If your default calendar view is not the month, the do this step. Locate your user folder it is in my documents/palm os desktop/variation of hotsync id
    Once you find the hotsync id folder. Grab that and move it to your desktop so it is no longer in the palm os desktop folder. Then try to relaunch palm desktop
    Let me know if either one of these steps let you open palm desktop then we will go into fixing them.

    First, when I open the calendar and then click on the month tab (in lower left corner), the system will either hourglass or will simply crash out.  This is consistent.  The other tabs work fine (Day, Week and Year), but not the Month tab.
    Second, when I try to go into the Media function on Desktop, it will hourglass and never open Media.  I'm then forced to close desktop because the system is locked.  This problem is also consistent.
    The last issue has to do with desktop system colors.  The older version of Destop offered different colors to indicate business, personal or other categories.  With 6.2.2 there are no color choices and everything is gray.  Where did the colors go?

  • Palm Desktop Software Crashed

    I recently got a new laptop running Windows 7 and installed the 6.6.2 Palm desktop software so the palm could sync using bluetooth. It worked fine for a month and then it crashed in the middle of a hotsync and the program will not open. I did a clean uninstall, including the registry and reinstalled Desktop and it will not open. During the install, it asked me to do a hotsync and it appeared to work. I tried running as administrator and running in compatibility mode, still no good. Someone on this forum suggested that it was a windows update and that we should reset computer back to initial settings and turning off windows update. I am not going to do that. My wife is attached to her Palm and I need to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated.

    Did you set the HotSync conduit to use "USB" in Palm Desktop?
    When you plug in the Palm E2, does your computer recognize it and make a noise?
    Make sure you are not plugging it into a "hub", but directly into the PC.
    Aceeca only offers a patch - I'm not sure why you uninstalled Palm Desktop!
    Be sure when you open the Device Manager on your computer that the Palm E2 is still active, and not "gone to sleep".
    When all else fails, a Clean Uninstall and Reinstall can usually fix most issues (as long as your USB ports are working correctly on the PC).
