Panasonic 32" LCD 60 vs.. 120 Hz's refresh

Am purchasing my first flat screen HDTV. Don't want to pay a lot Have had good prior experience with Panasonic and 32" -40" is about right size. Am currently viewing an old Sony non-HD. Am a football junkie and don't want to experience jitters if refresh rate is too slow. Should I go for this one, or hold out for a 120hz?

With 120hz/240hz there are two main factors at play.
1: Do you enjoy the look of modified framerates?
2: How well does TV x process images?
Many are accustomed to 60hz refresh and 24fps movie style of presentation. The adjustment to 120hz and 240hz just doesn't go over well to some.
I appreciate the feature myself, however I don't consider not having it to be a deal breaker. Real motion blur is not a significant concern on modern LCDs.

  • 17" MacBook Pro - Phillips 40" LCD TV 120 HZ Capable

I have been hooking up my 17" Macbook Pro to a Phillips LCD TV capable of 120 HZ refresh rate. I am connecting the computer to the TV with an HDMI-DVI with the apple Mini-DVI adapter. Everything that is shown on the TV seems to delay just enough to notice it.
For example, if I mirror the displays there is a split second delay from the pictures on the MacBook monitor to the Phillips TV. When watching movies, the MacBook will cut away from a scene just a hair before the Phillips picture will. This causes the audio to be off from the actual pictures just slightly.
I am a graphic designer and like the extra space, but it is hard to manage putting things on the other screen because it has such a delay. The mouse is hard to operate because I am trying to compensate for the delay.
Anyone have any suggestions. These are the settings I have for the Phillips TV and Display Prefs.
    Phillips TV Settings
120 HZ refresh rate: OFF (It will not allow me to turn it on so it defualts to 60 HZ)
    MacBook Display Prefs
    60 HZ (NTSC)
    1080p
    Rotation Standard
    Overscan: On
I've tried everything from changing the HDMI port I'm using to changing the resolution of the screen.
Is there anyway to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Usually there is a GAME mode on modern TVs. It turns off all the "features" that can cause latency in the pipeline to the screen. This matters a lot to gamers.
So see if your TV has game mode and if that helps the situation.

  • My mac mini is connected to my panasonic LCD and the screen has gone blank

    So here's what I did.
I plugged my old mac mini (10.4.11) to my Panasonic Viera LCD flat screen with a VGA cable. When it loaded up and i logged in i noticed the screen sizing looked odd - as in looked stetched. I then jumped into the display settings and must have clicked on of the options which for some unknown (to me anyay) reason the screen just went blank. I then cannot do anything as I cant see anything. If I turn it off and turn it back on again then its all good as before untill I have logged in and it loads the desktop - then it goes blank again.
    Any ideas?

  • VGA-in settings for 16:9 LCD HDTV

I have tried to wade through the info on this topic, but find myself lost, so apologies if this has already been covered. I have a Panasonic 50" LCD projection HDTV (PT-50LC13), and bought a Mac Mini to specifically use with this. I tried DVI input, but was not that impressed with the clarity, and don't currently own a DVI switcher (and would like to flip from DTV to computer), so I plugged the Mini into the RGB port with the DVI-VGA adapter. I get good readability from across the room at 800x600 at 60 refresh rate, so I'm not hyper about upping the resolution, but only have use of the center part of the screen (a 4:3), and would like to use the extra real estate on the sides (16:9, I guess). Several messages talk about using utilities like DisplayConfigX or SwitchResX to use this extra space, but in the context of DVI input and mapping pixels...
    1) Is there a way to do this with VGA input?
    2) I have scoured the manual for my TV, but can't identify the settings DisplayConfigX wants (refresh rate range, horizontal frequency range, pixel frequency, or default refresh rate). I don't want to guess and mess it all up.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the use of this TV with Mac Mini? (I'd like to avoid having to sink money on a DVI switcher, so I'd like to have a different video input than DVI - VGA, or I could get an S-video adapter if that'd be better...).
    Thanks for any help!!!!!!!

When you hooked the mini up via the DVI port, what resolution resulted? You say you weren't "impressed with the calrity" but I am curious to know what resolution caused you to be unimpressed. It seems the PT-50LC13 has a native resolution of 1280x720. Is that what your goal is and you can't get it through VGA? Sorry but need to understand these points to give advice.

    Hi
I have noticed that on some Toshiba notebooks the screen refresh rate is fixed on 60 Hz.
The display refresh rate is not important on the notebook screens.
TFT matrix doesn't have such thing as refresh rate. It doesn't blink.
TFT like all other LCD screens doesn't have refresh rate parameter, only reaction time.
    Your eyes are safe ;)
Ps: As far as I know the AGP port is not available.

  • AppleTV and Panasonic, black screen

    Hi,
    I just bought a new Panasonic TV(Panasonic 42" LCD-TV TX-L42U3E), and a new AppleTV(black one).
When I first plugged in my AppleTV it just worked. After a few minutes I got a black screen, and from what I could understand the TV "lost" the AppleTV. Now the connections seems to be random, sometimes I have a connection for an hour, sometimes for just a few seconds.
I tried with different cables and the result is the same, however, when I try on a different TV, it works fine.
Any suggestions? Could it be the TV?

OK, went to Bestbuy and purchased a micro USB adapter cable. Hooked it up and after completely unplugging both the power and HDMI on the AppleTV; and plugging the USB into the ATV and my MacBook running iTunes did iTunes recognize the ATV. Ran the update and when it finished iTunes instructed to unplug USB and re-plug HDMI and power. After a number of minutes (? Didn't  time it) AppleTV was up and ready for setup of accounts and network. Seems to work  AOK now. Enjoy!

  • What is the defaults refresh rate of the Mac book pro 15inch?

What is the defaults refresh rate of the Mac book pro 15inch? and how can I change it?

I don't believe there is a refresh rate for LCD or LED monitors. Refresh rate is something that is used for old style CRTs if i'm not mistaken.

  • 22" LCD HD

I have a Panasonic 22" LCD TV that I would like to use with my Quicksilver 2002. The TV has an HDMI input. My G4 has a Radeon 9800 Pro card, with "Mac to TV" on the control panel (and a DVI output). Is there anything in particular that I should be aware of before I make the switch (resolution issues or the like)?
    Thanks, everyone!

You will get the sharpest display if you can get a DVI to HDMI cable to work. The Mac to TV uses the S-Video which would limit you to 480 lines. It depends a lot on the TV. Some smaller LCD TVs only have 480 line displays. Some do not work properly with computers using the HDMI input. Some have overscan so the menu bar is off the top of the screen. Some have rectangular pixels, so images are distorted. Sometimes the instruction manual tells a bit about computer use, but usually you just have to try it.

  • Graphics problem.

I use a pair of Vison 19" LCD screens that have a refresh rate of up to 75. So to stay on the safe side and not get the "Out of Range" sign, I keep my rates set to 60.
Since upgrading to Leopard and doing updates, whenever I have more than one screen connected it'll reset them both with refresh rates over what my screens can handle. (I use a tiny crt to fix the refresh rate).
However, this doesn't even happen all the time. I reinstalled Leopard and reset the disk and everything worked fine for a time, but then I woke the computer up from sleep to find that the monitor settings were all messed up. I restart and find the screens are both out of range. I even downgraded back to Tiger to see if that would work, but after a while the problem came back.
Is there anyway that I can permanently lock the refresh rate completely so that Mac OS X can't do this? (In Leopard or Tiger, I really just want them both working again)

It could be a graphics issue, could be a cabling issue, or maybe something else.
Perhaps you could provide the type of computer, type of monitor, type of graphics adapter, and the resolution the monitor is set to use.

  • Changing Display Preferences

I have a terrible lcd monitor that only supports refresh rates up to 75hz and will show an "Out of Range" error if the refresh rate is too high. Whenever I turn on my computer or have it come back from sleep, for some reason Mac OS X resets the refresh rate to 85hz even though the monitor can only support 75. I've pretty much had to keep a separate crt monitor next to my lcd to troubleshoot it and reset the refresh rate and then plug the computer back into the lcd.
Question: How can I automatically change the Display Refresh rate if it exceeds 75hz to go back down to 75hz? Or some other workaround/fix?
I've got a feeling this is a problem with the monitor and or graphics card or something similar as this problem has persisted through numerous Mac OS X clean installs and a replaced HD.

As for problem with the monitor I mean that it may be telling the graphics card that it can support 85hz, even though it can't. But it works and everything if I set the refresh rate at 75hz without any problems whatsoever.

  • Video very dark in FCP X - ICC profile issue?

I am a new user for Final Cut Pro X.  I have been using iMovie to edit movies.
When I imported a project from iMovie, I immediately noticed that the video was significantly darker when I view it.  After Googling it a bit, I noticed one person that suggested that his ColorMunki ICC v4 profile wasn't compatible with FCP X.  When I switched my display profile to the default one (came with my computer), the video appeared as it used to.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Has Apple issued a patch for this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ron

    Thanks for interesting Andy,
my monitors are not calibrated, and in this moment I'm working on a laptop (but I suffer the same issue on a mac book pro with good monitors too).
The differences between the two clips are noticeable on the same monitor, what creates the difference I'm afraid could be these two factors:
1 - the first conversion from Panasonic recording format on P2 cards to a Quick Time compatible (and fcp compatible) new format (the ".mov" one).
2 - Their comparation when watched from these couples of softwares combinations:
    a) fcp's log and transfer window (before converting the P2 content in ".mov" files) VS fcp already converted clips.
    b) any clip (already converted to ".mov" files) in fcp VS any clip opened in Quick Time (but this could be a different issue - and then a different way - from my first one about conversion).
When I shot these clips I was using on my Panasonic Camera a Panasonic BT-LH80WUE P external 8' monitor (http://adcom.it/public/images/big/BT-LH80W-1.jpg), and the standard lcd display of Canon EOS 5 Mark II from what was shot on that. And tones of black and whites were looking acceptable on both.
Is it possible that can be a so heavy difference between these monitors to justify the totally lost of a work? Seems quite big... and, with us there also was a 20 year experienced photographer, that knows Canon quite well, and is used to trust to its lcd monitor... why on video it should not to be true, while in photography it always is? I'm not talking about what is photographed and what is printed, but about what is photographed and what is displayed on a computer monitor.
Anyway, if I would want to pull its best from my Panasonic 8' lcd monitor to really use it as a true reference (its price should justify my will) what would you suggest to do?
Well, situation quite complicated, isn't it?
    Thank you very much again,
any other clues will be welcome.
    Stefano.

  • Connecting Mac Pro with GeForce GT120 to monitor and TV at same time

Hi - I just want to know in advance of buying the latest 8 core Mac Pro with a single NVIDIA GeForce GT120 graphics card, will this connect to both my apple cinema display 20'' and my Panasonic Viera LCD TV's 'PC Input' at the same time?
From what I can tell this graphics card has a small output port and a wider one - am I right in thinking the smaller one is a mini-display port which would connect to my TV's 'pc input' and the other is DVI which connects to the Apple cinema display? --- is the 'mini display port' something that connects directly into thr TV or is an adaptor required?
    Thanks for reading!

The PC input is most likely VGA. A standard (old, but still common) connection port for most laptops (which is the primary usage). If you had a desktop, you would probably connect through DVI to HDMI.
You need a DVI to VGA adapter. Also check if you need male or female, as you might need an VGA adapter, plus VGA cord.
This adapter usually comes with all Mac Pros:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8754G/A?mco=NDcyMDY3OA
Then you just need to buy a long VGA cord.

Again double check the if you need male/male or male/female, etc.

  • Why is Color Washed Out after making DVD from FCP

I took a 3 minute corporate video from FCP (shot SD, NTSC DV) and compressed from the timeline in Compressor (3.01) to DVD best 90 minutes. When I burned the DVD in DVDSP (4.2) and played it in a stand alone DVD player with a JVC production monitor it looked washed out. It looks nothing like it does in FCP or DVDSP.
Any idea what is going on?

Yes to the monitor. I shot the video with a Panasonic HVX200 to P2 cards, downloaded and color corrected on Color. Viewed on two production monitors: A JVC CRT and a new Panasonic 26" LCD (LH2600W) production monitor which is fed from a Kona Card via SDI. My Apple 30" monitor, which I edit on is color calibrated with a Spyder calibrator.
I have played the DVD on the 30" and it looks washed out, even after comparing it to a QT movie from the timeline and played on the 30". Something seems to be happening when the DVD is burnt. The mpeg2 file when played in the inspector in Compression looks good too.
This is weird, since I have never had this problem before, but this is the first use of the new Compression.

  • Re: 2010 Mac Pro + Yosemite + Radeon 7950

Just been told by Apple Technical Guy (19 December 14) that my ATi Radeon HD 5770 graphics card (bought from Apple!) is no longer supported in Yosemite!!  I can try replacing with an ATi HD 2600XT, return to Mavericks or put up with the inconvenience that my primary screen seems to be the VGA source and each time I log in I get another Desktop Space!  The odd thing is that the HD 2600XT seems to be an older graphics card than my HD 5770?  Not sure what;'s going on?  See details of problem here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6618898
Mac Pro (Early 2008), Radeon HD 5770, Yosemite

    Hi Hattter!
Definitely nothing wrong with the card as I still have a Mavericks Partition on my system where everything works fine.  Something has happened following the upgrade to Yosemite.  This is how I described the problems to the Apple Tech Guy when I set up a new Yosemite partition ("Yosemite Test") WITHOUT transferring any of my own data files i.e. it's not a software conflict problem:
I still seem to have the same set of problems:
    (1) Progress Bar starts on the main screen (DELL 2407WFP), screen goes blank, the Progress Bar completes on the small screen (Panasonic 19” LCD TV) which then asks for the logon credentials;
    (2) First time boot from "Yosemite Test", the small screen defaulted to SVGA 800x600 rather than WXGA 1280x768 under Mavericks;
    (3) First time boot from "Yosemite Test”, I noticed that in "Preferences / Display / Arrangement" the white "menu bar" was above the small screen ie the small screen seems to have defaulted as the principle screen during Yosemite set up even though the small screen connects to my Mac Pro via the VGA connection on the ATi Radeon HD 5770 GPU and the main screen via the DVi port;
    (4) As before 1280x768 isn’t a listed resolution in "Preferences / Display / Scaled" unless I press "alt / Detect Displays / Scaled" when 1280x768 appears and can be set (and stays set through a Restart). NB: the TV screen (rather than the Mac Pro) only reports the correct resolution when I select 60Hz;
    (5) As before I’m collecting new desktops each time I Restart - the new desktops showing up in Mission Control above the main screen;
    (6) Whilst waiting to logon, the wallpaper shadow behind both main screen and small screen are the same although once logged-on the wallpapers may change - the the wallpaper on the main screen becoming the wallpaper on the small screen, the previous small screen wallpaper becomes an additional desktop in Mission Control at the top of the main screen. Finally the Yosemite default wallpaper (mountain) seems to appear at random on the main screen????
    (7) As before, logging out (rather than Restart) and the logon credentials are back on the main screen.
I’m assuming this points to a problem with the Graphics Card Driver rather than a software conflict.  Let me know if you need any more information.
There seems to be numerous reports of graphic problems with Yosemite some of which involve the HD 5770 card.  From your comments, are you suggesting  that there is no driver problem?

  • HDMI in Mac Mini 2014

Hi people, about a month ago, I received my new Mac Mini 2014, I connect it to my Panasonic 22" LCD TV, and I get the surprise of a not good image quality, I put down the Sharpness, and Noise Reduction, but still seems blurry and fuzzy text, it don't seems clear. Start reading on internet, found the solution buying a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, my TV got a VGA port, and it means could work, this might be the solution? or could be another? Also I try using SwitchResX but nothing changes, also my TV doesn't got the option of change the HDMI input to PC. This problem isn't to bad, but working or reading is really annoying and I know that could see better.
My Regards, to the Apple Community.

Maybe VGA would be better. I would first try:
