Panic Report... Help Please.

I've had the following panic report happen to me 3 times so far. The first time was when the computer was shutting down, the second was when I was browsing the internet and the third was when I was restarting. Some info... I just got this 15" Macbook Pro less than a month ago. I recently installed Logic Pro when this started happening. Here is the report. Thanks so much for your help.

I've had about 8 kernal panics in the last week on my new 15" Core i7. Normal things to try are:
- checking for faulty RAM
- running the Apple hardware check (on the install DVD)
- reinstalling the OS
- resetting PRAM and SMC
I've tried all of this and still get panics every two days or so. I've ordered replacement RAM (even thought the hardware test finds no errors). If this doesn't solve it, I'm going to ask Apple to exchange the computer.

  • Panic Report troubleshoot - please help

New to these reports. Can someone please help me decipher what the Panic Report is stating? Only change on laptop was upgraded to 16gb Crucial Memory.
Only happens when I do a "Shutdown" but not on a "Restart" - Report comes up then restarts itself - in which it boots up fine afterwards. Any help would be great thanks!

  • After update Mac Pro boots to grey screen with Kernel Panic. Help please.

It would be great if someone can help me out. Yesterday I did a software update of iTunes and osx (it said to ease update to Lion) and now my Mac Pro tower (MacPro3,1) boots to a grey screen, kernel panic, telling me that I need to power down and restart my machine. I can boot into osx via the safe mode but unfortunately I don't have an install disk to repair the system disk. What are my options?
The machine appears to work in safe mode. I have tried resetting the PRAM. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
In safe mode, I get this error report.

and here is my system software overview once I have booted into osx in safe mode.
    System Software Overview:
      System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
      Kernel Version: Darwin 10.8.0
      Boot Volume: System
      Boot Mode: Safe
      Computer Name: qdise’s MacPro3,1
      User Name: q2dise (dty61)
      Secure Virtual Memory: Not Enabled
      64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No
      Time since boot: 16 minutes

There's no point in reinstalling the same driver. It hasn't changed. It's incompatible with the OS update. Contact the device manufacturer to see if there's a driver update. In the meantime, you should physically remove the device so the driver doesn't load. If you uninstall the driver and leave the device installed, that might also cause a panic.

  • Kernel panic report help 10.6.8

    Hey everyone,
I know this is a common issue, so I apologize if there is a more appropriate place to post this. My 2008 Macbook core 2 duo has been giving me the gray lock up screen for about a year now, and I'm not sure why. Here is the panic report from the last time it happened (today). I haven't seen a correlation to anything specific, but possibly when downloading larger files. I've switched browsers and reset them. I also replaced the two 1gig ram sticks with 2 gig's.

Ignore me. I was looking on the wrong line.
In that case don't use safe mode. Instead uninstall the Symantec software using their universal uninstaller. If the panics continue then try uninstalling the Cisco software.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper 2.0.1
        2. AppDelete 3.2.6
        3. Automaton 1.50
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash 1.8.2
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
      10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1

First, you need to realize that ASC is not an Apple tech support portal. It's a discussion site, to which anyone can contribute. As a result, you will sometimes get responses that are unhelpful. For example, if you ask a question related to kernel panics, you may get answers from people who like to give advice, but don't know what a kernel panic is or what can cause it. Keep that in mind.
    1. This comment applies to malicious software ("malware") that's installed unwittingly by the victim of a network attack. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an intruder who has hands-on access to the victim's computer. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it. If you have reason to suspect that you're the target of such an attack, you need expert help.
    2. All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files, and to block insecure web plugins. This feature is transparent to the user, but internally Apple calls it "XProtect." The malware recognition database is automatically checked for updates once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders.
The following caveats apply to XProtect:
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets (see below.)
It only applies to software downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
    3. Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there has been another layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications and Installer packages downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Software certified in this way hasn't actually been tested by Apple (unless it comes from the Mac App Store), but you can be reasonably sure that it hasn't been modified by anyone other than the developer. His identity is known to Apple, so he could be held legally responsible if he distributed malware. For most practical purposes, applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed can be considered safe.
Gatekeeper doesn't depend on a database of known malware. It has, however, the same limitations as XProtect, and in addition the following:
It can easily be disabled or overridden by the user.
A malware attacker could get control of a code-signing certificate under false pretenses, or could find some other way to evade Apple's controls.
    4. Beyond XProtect and Gatekeeper, there’s no benefit, in most cases, from any other automated protection against malware. The first and best line of defense is always your own intelligence. All known malware circulating on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. The threat therefore amounts to a battle of wits between you and the malware attacker. If you're smarter than he thinks you are, you'll win.
That means, in practice, that you never use software that comes from an untrustworthy source. How do you know whether a source is trustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” "player," "extractor," or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim. (Some reputable websites did legitimately warn visitors who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.)
Pirated copies or "cracks" of commercial software, no matter where they come from, are unsafe.
Software of any kind downloaded from a BitTorrent or from a Usenet binary newsgroup is unsafe.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. If it comes from any other source, it's unsafe.
    5. Java on the Web (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related, despite the similarity of the names) is a weak point in the security of any system. Java is, among other things, a platform for running complex applications in a web page, on the client. That was never a good idea, and Java's developers have had a lot of trouble implementing it without also creating a portal for malware to enter. Past Java exploits are the closest thing there has ever been to a Windows-style "virus" affecting OS X. Merely loading a page with malicious Java content could be harmful. Fortunately, Java on the Web is mostly extinct. Only a few outmoded sites still use it. Try to hasten the process of extinction by avoiding those sites, if you have a choice.
Java is not included in OS X 10.7 and later. Discrete Java installers are distributed by Apple and by Oracle (the developer of Java.) Don't use either one unless you need it. Most people don't. If Java is installed, disable it — not JavaScript — in your browsers. In Safari, this is done by unchecking the box marked Enable Java in the Security tab of the preferences dialog.
Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java on the Web can't be trusted. If you must use a Java applet for a specific task, enable Java only when needed for the task and disable it immediately when done. Close all other browser windows and tabs, and don't visit any other sites while Java is active. Never enable Java on a public web page that carries third-party advertising. Use it only on well-known, password-protected, secure websites without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you'll see a lock icon in the address bar with the abbreviation "https" when visiting a secure site.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be practically as safe from malware as you can be.
    6. Never install any commercial "anti-virus" or "Internet security" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good, if they do any good at all. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.
Why shouldn't you use commercial "anti-virus" products?
Their design is predicated on the nonexistent threat that malware may be injected at any time, anywhere in the file system. Malware is downloaded from the network; it doesn't materialize from nowhere.
In order to meet that nonexistent threat, the software modifies or duplicates low-level functions of the operating system, which is a waste of resources and a common cause of instability, bugs, and poor performance.
By modifying the operating system, the software itself may create weaknesses that could be exploited by malware attackers.
    7. ClamXav doesn't have these drawbacks. That doesn't mean it's entirely safe. It may report email messages that have "phishing" links in the body, or Windows malware in attachments, as infected files, and offer to delete or move them. Doing so will corrupt the Mail database. The messages should be deleted from within the Mail application.
ClamXav is not needed, and should not be relied upon, for protection against OS X malware. It's useful only for detecting Windows malware. Windows malware can't harm you directly (unless, of course, you use Windows.) Just don't pass it on to anyone else.
A Windows malware attachment in email is usually easy to recognize. The file name will often be targeted at people who aren't very bright; for example:
    ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!H0TBABEZ4U!!!!!!!.AVI♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.exe
ClamXav may be able to tell you which particular virus or trojan it is, but do you care? In practice, there's seldom a reason to use ClamXav unless a network administrator requires you to run an anti-virus application.
    8. The greatest harm done by anti-virus software, in my opinion, is in its effect on human behavior. It does little or nothing to protect people from emerging threats, but they get a false sense of security from it, and then they may behave in ways that expose them to higher risk. Nothing can lessen the need for safe computing practices.
    9. It seems to be a common belief that the built-in Application Firewall acts as a barrier to infection, or prevents malware from functioning. It does neither. It blocks inbound connections to certain network services you're running, such as file sharing. It's disabled by default and you should leave it that way if you're behind a router on a private home or office network. Activate it only when you're on an untrusted network, for instance a public Wi-Fi hotspot, where you don't want to provide services. Disable any services you don't use in the Sharing preference pane. All are disabled by default.

Not seeing any software culprits in your panic log, but boot into Safe Boot and see if the KPs stop. Hold Shift down at startup and give it much longer to boot than normal.
KPs often can be caused by faulty RAM.

any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton to whoever helps!!
    Jason

    Hi Jason--
Hmm. I'd look at a couple of things. First, most of your panics mention USB in the backtrace, so have you recently installed a game controller or joystick or something like that? Especially if you had to install a driver for it (and had to reboot the computer, which would most likely mean a kernel extension).
The particular panic you're getting comes from the part of the operating system that manages memory allocation for peripherals. It's saying that it can't allocate that memory because the memory it's trying to allocate can't be used ("not mapped for I/O" in your log).
Disconnect all USB peripherals except your keyboard and mouse and see if you get the panic. And if you can borrow a keyboard and mouse from someone, you might try that, too.
Finally, this page has information on how to resolve kernel panics. He recommends you follow the procedures there in order. I especially agree with his suggestion to run the Apple Hardware Test first to rule out hardware failures.

  • Group above report - help please

    Good Morning,
I'm trying to create a group above report that resembles the following:
    LETTER TYPE: 00001
    BATCH TOTAL NOREPLY
    1234 3 1
    2345 2 0
TOTAL VOL. FOR LETTER 00001 5
    I've tried using:
    select ltrtype, batch, count(reply)
    from ltr
    where reply = 'N'
    group by ltrtype, batch
which does give me the correct figures under the NOREPLY Heading, but I can't get the correct figures for the TOTAL heading (NOTE: The figures in the TOTAL column should be a total of both the reply = 'Y' and reply = 'N' for the ltrtype and batch - the figures in the NOREPLY column should be a total of only the reply = 'N' for the ltrtype and batch.) I hope this explanation is clear
I've also tried eliminating the where clause, but then I get the correct figures under the TOTAL heading, but I can't get the correct figures for the NOREPLY heading.
I've also tried using two queries and a data link, but I couldn't get that to work either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Go to report wizard and check the groups and fields tabs. Otherwise map the repeating frames accordingly.

  • Macbook kernel panic during boot + other kernel panics! HELP PLEASE

    Hello,
I have a w macbook 2,0 ghz duo (2006 edition), 2gb ram, original HD. Operating system: Tiger OsX (updated).
A couple of weeks ago my mb started to display (during a normal session and even after a stand-by) a big message on screen "Please hold down the power button to restart your computer" etc = kernel panic message.
I took a look at the panic.log file and it said:
BSD process name corresponding to current thread: firefox-bin
So I thought there was something with firefox and, to resolve definetely this problems, I checked my hd using utility then I tried to install Leopard using the DVD(updated again). After installing Leopard I did not receive kernel panic errors related to firefox-bin thread but now I still have kernel panic problems.
    These are the error messages:
    1. When I boot up the mb, it shows the "restart" message or it FREEZES (doesn't boot up)
    2. The log says that the panic error is related to "ACPI" and Io.apple.firewirefamily (what is it???)
    3. The panic.log file just says:

  • Dynamic Report - HELP Please

    Hello,
I store a query to a table. That query is dynamic. It is created at runtime. I have another page that gets the query from the table. I need to use that query to generate a report. The problem is that some columns in the report are not summed and other columns are summed and I don't know which columns are summed or not summed until runtime. I am working with APEX 2.2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Panic Kernel Help Please.....I'm Stuck.

Here is the Panic Kernel I am receiving:
    http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e182/state95/IMG_0053.jpg
I removed the 1Gb memory I added about 2 years ago.
I then tried repairing the disk using the First Aid option of the Disk Utility on the Installation Disk.
After receiving several of these errors:
    http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e182/state95/IMG_0052.jpg
    This screen then appeared:
    http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e182/state95/IMG_0051.jpg
I'm stuck. What do I do now? I don't have a problem formatting the drive to zeros and then reinstalling the OS but first I want to backup my files. Any idea on how I can do this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in Advance.
Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.3) The Installation Disk just says OS 10.3. I'm not sure if it's 10.3.something though or just 10.3.

    Hi Deb.
    Thanks, once again.
I hope this post will cover the last of my questions.
Previously Corenlius stated the drive I need for the 12" PowerBook is a 2.5" ATA/IDE drive. I found the following Seagate drives in stock at a store near my home. However, I want to make sure they are ATA/IDE drives. According to the website for the store they fall under the category "PATA & IDE drives". When I look at the enlarged photo of the drives I notice the boxes say "Ultra ADA/100".

Do you know if these drives will work for me? If so I'll be deciding between:
    - 100Gb @ 7200RPM for 113.95
    - 120Gb @ 5400RPM for 109.95
    - 160Gb @ 5400RPM for 129.95
Now, hopefully this is my last question.
DiskWarrior built a new directory but could not replace the original directory due to a hard disk malfunctions(which is why I'm purchasing a new hard disk drive). So I used my current PowerBook as a Target Disk and backed up all the data from the Preview Disk DiskWarrior created. Now the folders are all on my current laptop but I cannot open some of them them because I "do not have sufficient access privileges". Do you know how I can change this so I can open them on my current PowerBook?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi,
in ApEx, you could use IMG tag - <img src="/i/my_image.jpg"> and set Strip HTML to No. In this way you can insert image which is on server filesystem and you know relative path to it.

  • Errors on my credit report Help please

When Citibank took over my Best Buy credit card from Capitol One, there appears to have been inaccurate reporting by the companies or the credit bureeaus are reporting it wrong, not sure which.   Both cards show an open date of February 2007  Equifax shows open with CBNA and no status with Captiol OneTrans Union shows Closed with Capitol One and open with CBNAExperian shows nothing with CBNA and closed with Capitol One... It should all show open with Citibank (CBNA) reporting zero balance...  Do I fix any of this or will it drag my score lower?

    Ciao.

  • Summary Report help

Although my summary report indicates the total responses received for comments, it does not show the actual comments. I used a forms central template, perfect for what I need, however I really need the comments to be visable in the report. help please.

Can you please send me screenshot with the problem ([email protected]) so i can understand the problem better.
Currently the Summary Report tab only show fields added in the Design tab, so if you've added comments field directly in the Response tab you would not be able to display in the Report tab.
But you should be to see all comments in the View Response tab.
    Thanks
