Parallels 6
For Parallels 6, do I need to buy/download Windows for my Windows based applications and games, or can Parallels just take care of downloading them without Windows? I have some Windows games that I own and like (Age of Empires, Civilization, etc.) and I want to know if I can download them through Parallels without actually getting Windows on my MacBook Pro. This is probably a stupid question, but I just want to make sure because I dont want to buy Parallels and then find out that I have to buy a Windows system when I should have just bought them together, or have just bought the mac versions of the games... if that makes sense. Haha.
Parallels is now version 7 btw.

How to use one dynamic connection managers for multiple parallel data flow tasks
hi there:
I have 6 databases residing on the same server. What I want to do is call a store procedure with identical name on each database dbo schema and transport results to a centralized place. The key is to have those SPs run in parallel instead
of in sequence as each SP may take around 10 mins to finish.
The simplest way is to create 6 OLE DB connection managers and create 6 DFT tasks. However, I do not want to maintain 6 OLE DB connection managers as there is a chance to have more connection managers.
What I did so far is to create a OLD DB connection manager and use expression to set up connectionString properties so that it will get populated by variables at run time. It is fine when running all SPs in a Foreach Loop Container. However, it takes
around 60 mins to finish.
When I try to run it in parallel ( basically created 6 DFTs but use only one Dynamic Connection Manager), the connection string gets confused therefore all DFT tasks failed.
Does anyone here have some experience on this topic?

In this case , you can update this variable from a table which contains many connection strings. It's good if you want to execute Store procedures in a sequential order. When in parallel mode, this will cause issues as connectionString gets overwritten.
I am thinking about using script task to exec sp.
The whole idea is that I do not want to maintain a large number of Connection Managers.

So you are not able to run parallel executions using same conn mgmr, even with dynamic connectionstring, is that correct? Yes, script task will be a way to go if you wish to execute it in parallel, you may connect to SS and query the proper conn string with
SELECT/WHERE clause in each script > pass it to a script variable > use that script variable and execute the proc. This will require only two things to change in each script, the WHERE condition to get the conn string and the proc name (you may even
get the proc names the same way you get conn string) and everything else will be same. Let us know how that goes.

How can I remove Parallels from my Macbook completely?
My MBP has been booting up very slowly, and I checked Console to see what might be causing it. I saw that a lot of the registered entries were related to Parallels, so I decided to unninstall it, since I also read that many people felt that their laptop was booting up faster after removing it.
The problem is that, even after unninstalling it, the boot time is still very long! I checked Console again, and the problem is no longer Parallels components loading, but the failing of them loading. I see stuff like:

Inconsistent Parallel Loop Performance
My original question was can traditional DAQ devices run in parallel loops? I have some extensive data processing and additional automation that would be a lot easier to do in parallel with an acquisition loop rather than cram it all into the acquisition's while loop. As I was building an example VI, I discovered the answer seems to be "sometimes".
I am working on a calibration rig for hot wire anemometers. It requires pressure values to be read into a PCI-4351 (traditional DAQ) for the duration of the calibration and record wire voltages to a PCI-6110 (DAQmx device) only when the pressure values have settled (i.e. the stream velocity is constant). Inevitably, both devices will be polling data simultaneously at some point.
It seems that the 4351 would transfer its data to a parallel loop, but not when 6110 was running and vice versa - and sometimes the buttons to stop the loops wouldn't work. Will traditional DAQ and DAQmx devices not perform parallel tasks simultaneously?

You pointed me a good direction - I wasn't familiar with action engines until you mentioned them, but after some reading (namely Ben's AE nugget), you have me convinced (although not entirely sure on how to proceed) so here come the questions!
1. I tried to use Ben's running average example as a template - what should the cases inside my AE be? Right now they're "initialize", "acquire", and "close". However, I have to pass a value from initialize to acquire to close - so as is, the VI won't run.
2. Ben had his AE in a loop to add data to the array and in another loop to perform the running average calculation. Since you end up with two of the same thing in your BD, how is this better than creating a local variable?
3. Best practice? I'm pulling values from several channels - should I isolate each channel an put it into its own SR within the AE or keep the data together and have a single SR for the 2D array?
I don't expect anybody to have the 4351 drivers installed - so the what you're probably seeing as three "?" VIs in the "Initialize" panel are the VIs needed to initialize the device (sampling rate, number of scans, etc.), the single "?" in "Acquire" reads the data and the two in "Close" end the acquisition.

Can you install Windows 8.1 Pro using Parallels on a new MacBook Pro without retina display?
I am starting a graduate school program and I would like to purchase a MacBook Pro. The options for the non-retina display fit my needs best, but it sounds like the resolution requirements for Windows 8.1 Pro do not match the MacBook Pro without retina. I need Windows to run a statistics program (SAS) and ArcGIS for mapping. Any thoughts or experience installing Windows 8.1 Pro on MBP without retina?
The native res on my 13-inch non-Retina is 1280x800. You might check with Parallels support or their forums to see if this is a problem.
If you go with the non-Retina 13-inch, I'd recommend getting 8GB RAM (standard is 4GB) because Win emulators need a fair bit of memory. -
Using Parallels with Windows 7 on Bootcamp caused startup logo to disappear
Please let me know whether this is just neurotic or what! Windows 7 RC on Bootcamp partition worked great until I installed a trial copy of Parallels 5.0. Even with Parallels, things seemed fine, but I did not like some behaviors of the program when run under Parallels. Using Parallels, I was leery about the issue that when I clicked on the icon of the E-drive (the Macintosh hard drive), I kept getting the message that it needed to be formatted. Certainly I was able to access the files of the MacIntosh through shared folders, and by dragging files from desktop to desktop, but I saw very little advantage of for running Parallels for what I do with the Windows programs, and I did not want to mess up the Macintosh hard drive by an accidental reformat while using Windows. Also I like the fact that if I start Windows from the Bootcamp partition rather than access it via Parallels, Windows is physically well isolated from MacOSX, I do not really have a chance to delete or mess up the Mac hard drive, and at the same time one can access the Mac OSX disk for files that might be needed by dragging these into the Windows partition. Parallels just seemed unneeded.
Now that I have uninstalled Parallels from the Mac partition and have uninstalled the Parallels programs and tools on the Windows partition, I still have a strange phenomenon that first showed itself when I had first installed the Parallels 5.0 program. Specifically, since the very day that Parallels first was installed and the bootcamp partition was used as the hard drive for Windows run under Parallels, and now even after uninstalling Parallels, the behavior of the Windows flag logo and startup graphics have been changed. A progress bar that previously did not exist before I used Parallels appears on startup, and the moving colored pieces of the Windows flag logo that are supposed to come together as Windows 7 is booted now do not appear during startup.
To my best knowledge, besides uninstalling Parallels programs, I have also removed manually all parts of Parallels that I can find from Windows, and I even excised hidden files and folders of Parallels found on the C drive. I also sought out PRL files from the Windows partition. I uninstalled and physically removed a program called Stardust (?)... Starcolor (?) or something like that, which was installed at the time Parallels was installed. Folders for this had icons of Macintosh programs. Additionally tried to remove all Parallels, PRL, and Stardust items also from the registry, but there are stubborn ones that are in the "pnp Lockdown files", and some others there that also fail to remove elsewhere. The Lockdown files that do not remove are Parallels files involved in booting, and the others are for a PRL 4600 monitor (???). I was able to remove PRL files in the "Driver Store" folder by changing permissions, and then these were able to be removed. I see no settings anywhere for startup logos in msconfig or when I search through programs in the control panel or in the Windows system folder. I have emptied temporary folders, Prefetch, and have used Windows Live Safety Center to remove stray registry files and to fix issues.
Attempts to go back to an old restore point do not work and do not get me back to the Windows 7 installation that i used to have. I reinstalled drivers for Bootcamp from the Snow Leopard disk, and finally I tried to repair the installation (by starting up windows using function keys) with at the same time the Windows 7 RC installation disk available for access of files. The option for repair when started up this way is for repair of a non-starting installation. When this is selected, it seems there is nothing found that needs to be repaired. Thus the startup for Windows still has the same behavior. Maybe I do not know how to repair an installation of Windows, and maybe nothing really needs to be changed back to the former condition. Am I just bothering with something that is just fine but which never will be identical to what it was before Parallels?
The bottom line is that even though things seem to operate fine otherwise, I feel Parallels has somehow adulterated the Windows installation, which I would rather just run as Windows without artifacts from a prior installation that influence it.

Late 2012 Mac mini upgrade ssd - also install parallels 8 and windows 7
Late 2012 Mac mini (16gb memory) SSD install - samsung 840 pro 512 gb. I am looking to install this new SSD as possibly a dual drive setup almong with the stock HDD 500gb in order to: make the system faster (with more storage etc.), possibly use the stock drive as a backup drive and I also want to run parallels 8 with windows 7.
I have ordered the data doubler kit from Owc and am wondering exactly how to setup properly. Can I simply install new drive in the upper bay (and move stock drive to lower bay)? Then migrate the data from the stock drive then after that's complete run the setup for parallels? I am also confused as far as using trim enabler or not? I was also wondering how much space/memory is recommended for windows 7 partition?

If you have a 2012 or later model, you will want to determine the configuration of your Mac mini's drives prior to ordering. To do this, open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app and click on the grey drive icon at the left-edge of the window. If you see "Lower" after the "Connection ID" at the bottom-left corner of the window, you may proceed using the standard installation instructions. If you see "Upper" then you have a special configuration which will need additional components, and you will need to also refer to the Addendum video.

Some users have reported problems with an SSD being the boot drive in the upper bay. They have not reported problems with a HD boot from either bay To avoid the problem I would move the HD (if it is in the lower bay) to the upper bay and install the SSD in the lower bay.
I allocated 64 GB for Win 7 in Parallels abd 4 GB Of 16 installed). You can change them later after you install so it is not that importent what you specify initially.

ok, i've seen this question asked a number of times. i know the general procedure:
- first download some installer things to a window box so i can make a bootable DVD / flash drive
- go the mac and use the DVD / usb stick to install the virtual machine
great.. BUT :
1) unfortunately, i'm still really confused at the most basic part which is where (link) do i actually get the initial download thing to create the 8.1 *PRO* from microsoft and where (link) / how do i pay for the subscription key to install the thing????
i keep seeing a link for windows 8 or windows 8.1 where windows PRO is NEVER mentioned. i ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE a) PRO 64 bit and NOT vanilla windows and b) it MUST BE A FULL INSTALL (i'm not upgrading from windows 7, 8 or 8.1 NON pro.. i'm going
to be installing this thing on a brand new system.
i'm an IT guy for two decades and i can tell you trying to find, download, install a clean version of windows 8.1 PRO is a royal pita and nothing about windows 8.1 PRO is intuitive on the MS site. it's almost as if they do NOT want you to install the
thing. i'm not trying to bust jewels here, i'm just being honest and providing feedback that you folks need to make this much more clear and intuitive. people really shouldN'T have to post on forums to find out how to purchase, download and enter
in a subscription key for a base version of an OS. it's crazy.
2) once i can figure out how to download, install and register the darn thing ;)... i'm curious how the licensing works.
2a) first if my windows 8.1 pro experiment on mac parallels sucks, i want to be able to remove the authorization so i can reinstall 8.1 pro on another system. can i / how do i do this in my scenario?
2b) i actually already bought windows pro 8.1 about a year ago (to upgrade a laptop that came with 8 that i needed to upgrade to vanilla 8.1 then to finally to pro) so that i could windows phone 8.1 development with simulator on the laptop. unfortunately
the laptop maxed out at 4G and the performance of the emulator was ridiculously slow that it's unusable. i'd love to somehow be able to put the laptop back to windows *vanilla* 8.1 and reclaim my 8.1 pro that i *already* purchased by removing the authorization
from that laptop allowing me to reinstall the full 8.1 pro with the same key on the mac with parallels. then i can sell the laptop that has sat there collecting dust for a year and regain my windows 8.1 pro investment vs having to buy another copy for
the mac.
i have no idea how to do this though i think it should be possible. can anybody tell me where / how i do this?
note the win pro 8.1 install never went well so i actually had some guy from MS login to my laptop remotely and do the install.. in doing so i believe he wiped away the original windows vanilla 8.1 recovery partition asus put on the drive meaning i'm not
sure i can get the laptop back to 8.1 or 8 vanilla so i can resell it functionally to another person while removing my 8.1 *pro* license from it. any suggestions here highly welcome.
2c) once i get the windows 8.1 pro installed in a vm under parallels, i'll have one licensed copy running. my guess is that is what i'm limited to. but when you start working with VMs the whole purpose is to be able to create multiple test
enviornments and dispose of them when you don't need them etc. since the window will be tied to the single mac hw id, will i be able to install multiple *win* vms (duping an exising win vm for instance) from the one license or must i purchase
multiple win licenses for each win vm on the SAME system? if you need a new license for each vm, wouldn't i have to do a FULL WINDOWS INSTALL every time i wanted to create another windows VM.. THAT IS CRAZILY INEFFICIENT...
there has to be some kind of option to dup a windows licensed vm on the SAME system yes? what are the rules / procedures for making this work.
i'm using parallels on mac as an example but the same question would apply to using hyperV (which i know nothing about at this point) as the virtual host platform as well.

1. Are those custom or system presets?
- If system presets, what are they?
- If custom, could you specify the basic settings of that preset?
2. Are you exporting to Dolby in any of those presets?
3. Is "Enable Parallel Encoding" checkbox checked in preferences?
The reason I ask is because we purposely don't allow parallel encoding with some combinations of settings and obviously if you disabled parallel encoding in the prefs, it will not work. -

For each minute that a procedure is running I would like to know what stages are running.
I log the whole procedure in a table called run_details and the start and end of each stage in a table called incident.

The number of CPUs are not always a good indication of the processing load that a platform can take - especially when the processing load involves a lot of I/O.
You can have 99% CPU idle time with a 1000 active processes... as that idle time is in fact CPU time spend waiting on I/O completion. Courtesy of a severely strained I/O channel that is the bottleneck.
Another factor is memory (resources). You for example have 4 CPUs with 8GB physical memory.. where a single process (typically a Java VM for a complex process) grabs a huge amount of memory. Assuming that 4 threads/CPU or 1 threads/CPU can be a severe overestimate due to the amount of memory needed. Getting this wrong leads in turn to excessive virtual memory paging and reduces the platform's performance drastically.
CPU alone is a very poor choice when deciding on the platform's capacity to run parallel processes. -

Hello everybody,
I have Windows 7 SP1, and when I install Business Objects 4.1 Client, it is install correctly but when i execute the program, for example BO Rich Client, an error appear "can not start the configuration in parallel does not correct" Could you help me?

Refresh a materialized view in parallel
Hi,
To improve the refresh performance for a materialized view, I set up it to be refreshed in parallel. The view can be refreshed successfully, however, I did not see the view is refreshed in parallel from session browser, can someone let me know if I miss any steps?
1) In DB A (running 8 CPUs), set up the base table to be parallelized, the base table is called table1
ALTER TABLE A.table1 PARALLEL ( DEGREE Default INSTANCES Default );
2) In Database A, set up the materialized view log
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW LOG
ON table1 WITH primary key
INCLUDING NEW VALUES;
3) In Database B (in the same server with Database A), there is an existing table called table1, prebuilt with millions of records in the table. Due to the size of table1, I have to use prebuilt option
Drop MATERIALIZED VIEW table1;
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW table1 ON PREBUILT TABLE
REFRESH FAST with primary key
AS
select /*+ PARALLEL(table1, 8) */ *
from table1@A;
4) in Database B, I executed this stored procedure -
EXECUTE DBMS_MVIEW.REFRESH(LIST=>'table1',PARALLELISM=>8, METHOD=>'F');

Parallel Processing : Unable to capture return results using RECIEVE
Hi,
I am using parallel processing in one of my program and it is working fine but I am not able to collect return results using RECIEVE statement.
I am using
CALL FUNCTION <FUNCTION MODULE NAME>
STARTING NEW TASK TASKNAME DESTINATION IN GROUP DEFAULT_GROUP
PERFORMING RETURN_INFO ON END OF TASK
and then in subroutine RETURN_INFO I am using RECEIVE statement.
My RFC is calling another BAPI and doing explicit commit as well.
Any pointer will be of great help.

I used the wait command after rfc call and it worked additionally I have used Message switch in Receive statement because RECIEVE statement was returing sy-subrc 2.Not sure what's going on here. Possibly a corrupt drive? Or the target drive is full?
Try running the imagex command manually from a F8 cmd window (in WinPE)

Adobe creative cloud set up to install on a mac with parallels windows 8
Unfortunately it is not possible to install the program it always displays an error message. how can you loess the problem?
error message: This application can not be run from a network drive-. copy it to a local folder and strarten it again.I have just the regular version, not Professional.
I mean "les integrated", in the sense that you really run Fusion "in a window". The more "integrated" approach means that Windows applications run as if they were for the Mac, and you do not see the Windows interface at all. I personnaly think tjat is too confusing. There is nothing wrong with it, just a bit more confusing. i like having it clear that Windows is in a seperate Window.

USB-6009 DAQmx parallel devices
Hello, im using a NI USB-6009. And I have to read two analog Inputs, write two analog outputs and two digital outputs. All this in parallel.
It works if I connect them successively, but then the VI is too slow for a good measurement.
So my question is, can it generally work if the dataflow isn't given trough the hole chain, but rather coincidently trough the single parts of the VI?
Now it doesn't work.
