Partial Scoring on Matching Quiz Slide in Captivate 8

Hi,
I tried searching for the answer to this question before posting but I only located an answer for Captivate 5.5.  Is it possible to do partial scoring for a matching quiz slide in Captivate 8.  If not, does someone know a workaround?  It would also be helpful to me to know which questions slides allow partial scoring.  I am posting my trainings on an intranet site and not an LMS so I don't have the capability to do partial scoring from the LMS.
Thanks,
Jeff

Only one type of question allows partial scoring: MCQ with multiple correct answers.
Workaround is to create a custom question slide. The score can be stored in a variable, you'll have to collect the variable. Have some blog posts about partial scoring in custom question slides, before it appeared for MCQ in Cp. Here is an example:
Widgets and Custom Questions - part 2 - Captivate blog
I once created a custom matching question slide for a client (who never paid), using the D&D interactive widget from InfoSemantics, but that is only for SWF output.  And it had partial scoring.

  • Add buttons to quiz-slide? Captivate 7

    Hi there,
I am really having a hard time trying to add buttons to a quiz-slide (fill in the blank).
Is it really true, that there is no work-around? All I need to do, is to use the smart shapes/ image buttons, to link to other slides in the project.
    Anyone??
    Thanks, in advance
    //Niklas

Maybe this blog post could help, because it is not always that easy to have
shape buttons on question/score slides. I encountered several small issues
and tried to figure out workarounds:

Post was written for CP6, but nothing really changed in 7.

  • How to add an audio click box on a quiz slide - adobe captivate 6?

    Hi,
I'm trying to add an audio click box on a question slide. It works brilliantly on normal slides but theres no option to add a click box on quiz slides.
I'm trying to add audio on click. So, when somebody clicks that area they will hear a sound. Is there a way to do this on a question slide?
    Thanks

Replace those old click boxes by shapes configured as buttons. Have a look at this post:

  • Where can I find detailed instruction on how to set up Likert quiz slides in Captivate 7?

I am learning Captivate 7 and I'm stuck trying to create a series of Likert quiz slides. I can't find detailed instruction on how to set up the selections on the scale.

I would like to know how to read Likert results. Any help would be appreciated.
I have 15 comments that I need feedback from. There are three possible responses; Seldom, Sometimes, & Often. I would like to assign a point value (numeric value) to each response.
    Seldom=1
    Sometimes=2
    Often=3
Once they have been answered , I would like to then take the total point values of only specific questions and display them. (e.g.Questions 2,4,7,9,13). Is it possible to track and assign a point value to each response. I figure once I get them into variables I can create an Advance Action to do the math. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Slide numbers and Quiz slides in Captivate 8

How do I add slide numbers to Captivate?
Also, in my course, I need to add quiz questions and then final test questions. Quiz questions are not added into the final score, but final test would be tabulated into the final course score.
How do I do this? (I noticed that with survey questions, there is not a review page to show the correct answer. Survey questions also seem to still be included in graded question score reporting.)
Any guidance would be much appreciated!
    Thank you

There are several system variables available. I have upgraded my list for CP8 and will publish it soon. But those you need are already in a post about CP6: System variables in Captivate 6 - Captivate blog
For slide number you need cpInfoCurrentSlide, which starts with 1 (most numbering starts with 0). Insert that var in a text container, using the X button in the Style tab of the properties panel,
    the Character portion.
As for the Quiz question:  you can uncheck to include a score in the Quiz total. Advanced Interaction panel (F9) is a good place to check all scored objects, and to see whether they are included in the Quiz total or not. Most quizzing system variables will adapt to the situation, score and percentage, maximum possible score will not take into account the questions that are not adding their score to the total score. However some variables will include the knowledge questions: total number of questions is one of them. This means that you have probably to tweak the score slide, to create a score slide yourself. Check the same list with system variables to create a custom score slide. Maybe this blog post can help, although the subject is bit different: Intermediate Score Slides - Captivate blog
Another approach would be pretest slides, but it has a lot of limitations: navigation will disappear, pretest slides have to be together at start of the course.

  • Copying Quiz slides in Captivate 5

Captivate 4 had File/Import to quickly import slides from one project to another which is no longer available in Captivate 5.
I understand Captivate 5 uses Copy/Paste but it doesn't seem to want to copy the Quiz Results Slides - is this the case?
I really want to use the Select All / Copy /Paste functions and not have to manually copy/paste groups of slides and then re-insert the Quiz Results Slide in the destination project.
Thank you in advance for any tips or advice.

    Hi there
I stand to be corrected on this but I think that the Quiz Results slide is one of those sort of "special" slides that is simply created by virtue of having a quiz. I've always considered these beasties were simiilar to the Mouse object. It's sort of an attribute of a project and not really a slide per se.

  • How do I change the color of the matching letter in a matching quiz question in Captivate 8?

The default dropdown box has white text with a white background. The text for the questions and answers is black. That doesn't change the dropdown letter to black, though. I've tried changing the default styles, and it only changes the main text, not the letters in the dropdown box. An old post for captivate 5.5 mentions changing the text color to differ from the dropdown answer color, but I want the reverse--the dropdown letter color to match the rest of the text. Actually, I'd take any color that would show up on the default white background for the box.
Please, any answers in layperson terms. I don't know code and am refamiliarizing myself with Captivate after a few years away from it.
    Thanks,
    Sally

I probably should add that it is only on publish that the text color changes to white. When I'm working in the Captivate program, the dropdown text appears black.

  • Matching Quiz in Captivate CS4 (using images)

    Hi all,
I am looking to create a quiz slide in Captivate CS4 using the matching quiz tool.  Does anyone know whether or not you can use images as a question rather than text, for example, (see below) i would have the 4 hazard signs on the left and then the 4 answers on the right and the person completing the quiz would have to match the correct answer to the correct picture.  If it can be done, where would i start????

    Hi there
It can "sort of" be done using Captivate. You wouldn't be able to click the actual image and drag to make the match, but you could certainly insert images just above the text. Then instruct the user to click the text answer and drag to make the match.
If you took this approach you would certainly want to avoid shuffling the answers unless you wanted to totally confuse folks!

  • Quiz slide issues in Captivate 4

I am having functionality issues with quiz slides in Captivate 4. When taking the quiz, slides will randomly get stuck/grey out and the user has to click the back button and then go forward and the slide will then function correctly. This is not acceptable to the client, for obvious reasons. I have tried re-building the quiz slides (several times) and have also copied the entire project into a clean Captivate file. Nothing seems to make a difference and it is still completely random. I will preview the quiz over and over and sometimes it will work perfectly and then the next time it'll get stuck. This has only started occuring since I upgraded to Cp4. I have had to resort to not using Quiz slides at all and re-creating them with click boxes, but then I miss out on some of the needed functionality that the quiz slides provide (with feedback). I am pulling my hair out! Anyone else having trouble with this?

    Hello all
I have been having the same issue and have spent a bunch of time with Adobe so this is what they sent me and so far my quizzes have been working and I have had no reports of any quiz's freezing up fingers crossed.
This is the latest corospondence from Adobe I have recived.. hope it helps..

1.)Separate all of the different quiz type questions into separate pools
and pull random questions from each pool.
2.)Stop using the multiple choice slides with single correct answer only
as it defeats the usability of the quiz module in Captivate
3.)Verify that video card drivers are compatible with Windows XP.
If you still think that it is the problem with Adobe Captivate then
please perform the below mentioned steps;-
1.) Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files.
Recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files to eliminate problems
that a damaged preferences file might cause.
To recreate the Adobe Captivate preferences files:
    1. Quit Adobe Captivate.
    2. In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Documents and
Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Adobe and move the "Adobe
Captivate" folder to another location (for example, the Desktop).
    3. Start Adobe Captivate. Adobe Captivate creates new preferences
    files.

  • Captivate 7 Partial Scoring:  Cannot set partial scores

    Sorry.  Probably missing something obvious.
I've a multiple choice quiz in Captivate 7.
What I'm after is on each question there's a correct answer, and the rest are wrong to various degrees.
So for correct answer: 10 points
for next best answer: 7 points
for next best answer: 3 points
    for worst answer: 0 points.
    To implement:
    set quiz type to Graded
on overall quiz properties I ticked "Partial Score"
then on each answer I expected to be able to enter a Points score under "Advanced Answer Option".
However I cannot save any change to the Points score for any answer other than the first one.  For all the others nomatter what I type as score gets changed to zero when I press Enter.
    What am I missing?
    TIA
    Steve
    Quiz Properties:
Answer Properties (with score that never changes):

I have two questions related to partial scoring.
    1) I have set up a multi-answer quiz with a question pool. I would like to turn off partial scoring for each of the MA questions. I don't see this option on Random Question slides.
The only way that I have found to make this adjustment is to move all of the questions in the pool into the Main Project, then turn off partial scoring, then move the questions back to the pool. Is there setting that I missed that can turn off partial scoring without having the move the questions around?
    2) I would like to change the value of the points for the random questions. When I adjust the value in the Quiz Properties window, it will change the Max Score but it will not affect the score for each slide. For example, I have a 5 question quiz. I adjust the point value on each random slide from 10 to 5. After performing the quiz, the quiz results window will show that my score is 50 and the maximum score is 25. Then, I discovered that if I move the questions from the pool into the Main Project, I am able to adjust the points to any value. Then I will move the questions back into the pool and the question values are set so that my score will be 25 after answering all of the questions correctly. As mentioned in item 1 above, is there a setting that I missed that will apply the score to the Random Question slide and the question slide in the question pool?
    I am using Captivate 7.

  • Partial scoring on quiz questions

I'm trying to create an assessment tool for literacy students, and there are some questions that I want to create as fill-in-the-blanks.  I am now using Captivate 7, and would like to figure out a way to have several blanks on a question, and have it mark by blank.  Currently it's an all or nothing marking, which really doesn't work because the student would have to get each and every blank on the page correct in order to get the question right.  Is there a way to get marks per blank??

    Hello,
Partial scoring is only available for MCQ type of questions in Captivate.
If you are willing to create custom FIB slides, this will be possible. You'll use validated Text Entry Boxes, that can have a score attached, one for each blank. I have explained such a FIB question slide with widgets (TextArea) but the problem is that scoring is than much more difficult if you want to report the score. Perhaps you could have a look at:

  • Captivate 5 - Move to non-quiz slide sets remaining unanswered questions as skipped

I have a captivate 5 project where all of the first slides are general content prior to the quiz questions at the end.
Just before the quiz, I have a slide that summarizes all the answers. Each quiz question is given 4 attempts to
answer them correctly. If tester exceeds 4 attempts, I do a jump to the slide that is a summary (ahead of the
question slides). When the test is stepped into, it correctly keeps the questions that were answered but then
has set all questions after the jump back slide to 'skipped'.
    Any way around this?
    Thanx.

Continue button on the Score slide will execute the actions you specify in Quiz, Preferences for Pass/Fail. Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog has more details on functionality of question/score slides.
If you are on CP6 or later, you can add shape buttons on question/score slide: Buttons on Question/Score Slides in Captivate 6? - Captivate blog  has some more details about that feature.

  • All Quiz Slides Automatically Changed (by captivate) when ANY change is made to a Quiz Slide

When I make a change to a quiz slide, captivate automatically adds the "Back" button (which was previously deleted) to *all* quiz slides and extends *all* quiz slide length by several seconds. This is very frustrating to have to go back to every quiz slide (which are interspersed thought the project) to remove the "back" button and correct the slide length. Thoughts anyone?

Did you read that blog post that I indicated in the other thread about questions?
Default pausing point is at 1.5 secs. If you leave the Success/Last attempt action to default 'Continue' users have to wait 1.5secs, never 3 secs.
If you want to reduce the time, you can drag the pausing point bit more to the right to decrement the non-active part (not totally till end). That is the best solution, especially if some users will have to work with restricted bandwidth. Or you use Go to Next Slide instead of Continue for the actions.

  • Captivate 4 Quiz Slides - Misnumbering?

    Hi Everyone,
I am using Captivate 4 after recent Captivate 3 upgrade.
My quiz slides are "misnumbering." They appear fine in Editing mode (i.e. "1 out of 5"), but when I preview them - and even when I publish the project and load it to the LMS, the slides read "1 out of 35" or something like that.
To cap it off, even if the user gets the 5 questions correct, they still fail because of the misnumbering of the questions (for some reason, the system sees them as needing to complete 35 questions.)
Folks - there are only 5 questions. The slides are right in Editing mode. These are my first projects with Captivate 4 (rather than 3), and I'm both dumbfounded and unimpressed.
    Any ideas????

    Hi there
Likely you have Click Boxes sprinkled through the project with reporting enabled.
Tap the F9 key and the Advanced Interaction dialog should display.
Clear the check boxes and you should be golden.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 Answers not appearing on quiz slide

I have quiz slides in my project with single answer multiple choice questions.
Sometimes on my slides as they are playing the letters for the choices appear but the answers do not.
I hit the right button on my mouse and refresh the page and they appear.
Please let me know if there is something I can do to assure the answers appear all the time.
    Thank you,

As far as I am aware, deleting or replacing the Question Title or Question Text captions in quiz questions in any version of Captivate will cause issues.  So don't do it.
You do not need to always choose Optional as your Preferences > Quiz Settings > Required setting.  But if you choose one of the other more restrictive options this drop down offers (Required, Pass Required, Answer All) then you may run into strange issues where your quiz seems to stall for no apparent reason, especially in situations where you try to Retake Quiz or move back and forth from quiz questions to content slides.  I recommend you start with Optional, and then once you have everything working perfectly, try the other settings if you really feel the need.  Personally, I never seem to use them.
