Password and i-Tunes 7.0 install

Dont know if anyone can help , but I need to upgrade to i-Tunes 7.0 because I just purchased a new i-Pod 2GB and I cant remember my administrator password and dont have access to my set up disc at the moment. Does anyone know if there is a way round this please? Thankyou.

I got it figured out, thanks to a post by b noir (below).
First thing I did was go into "my computer" to make sure I am logged in as admin with my administrator login and password. If you don't remember your password, then you can change it.
Then, B noir posted this:

"Service 'Ipod Service' (iPodService) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services."
The solution:
that can happen sometimes if the itunes installer is having a hard time shutting down either itunes or quicktime (or applications using quicktime) prior to the install. so let's try a "download, restart, then install strategy."
leave your ipod unplugged.
download and save a copy of the itunes installer to your hard drive. (do not run the install on line, and do not start the install by clicking on the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file just yet.)

I downloaded Mavericks and it won't install. I did re-set my password and when I click on Install for Mavericks, I still get a box for "administrator password" and it still won't accept my new password. Is there a difference between my Apple ID and the administrator password they're asking for? I never had an administrator password-- I just hit enter and have never had a problem before with previous installations. I'm on an iMac, from 2007, running Mt. Lion (version 10.8.5). I've been looking for other's posts who may be having the same problem, but haven't found any. Can anyone help?

Ugh. The 'no password, no work' thing is a recent Apple development. I ran into it on my system and ended up having to do a clean install on a partition I fully erased.
I suppose, if you have the ability to, go online and look up how to burn a bootable DVD image. Download the 10.8.4 image then use the Disk Utility to make a boot image of it. You'll need a dual-layer DVD or a USB drive (or memory stick at least 8GB) If you've got an optical drive, burn the disk, if you've a USB device, use that.
Then get a pocket drive and copy your important files off the system or let Time Machine do a full backup.
When the backup is done, insert the disk and hold down the C key until the machine boots off of the DVD. At the point you get to the start window, go to the menu and choose the Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility, reformat the drive. You go to the actual DRIVE (not the Macintosh HD, but the root above it that is the actual hard drive device)
I always do this and *partition* it into several volumes, the benefit being, you can store all of your music, documents and importans stuff on that secondary storage volume you make - it will have it's own index and then the first volume is where you put the OS and it will have it's own index as well. That way, if the OS throws a wobbler and you need to reinstall, you don't lose your data.
Depending on the size of your hard drive, it is good to give your OS partition at least 60GB and optimally 100GB, and the rest for storage.
Name your volumes, use the little box sliders to manually size them or put that number in the size window, select for the format, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and hit Apply and then the Disk Utility will quickly create your new partitions.
Once finished, quit the Utility and it will return you to the OS installer. Select the volume you want to install to and it should start up and install.
Once the installation is done, you'll get the new machine startup then you MUST put in a password for the computer. Once you're in, and to the desktop, don't bother with any Mountain Lion updates, go right to the App Store and get the Mavericks update and let it install the app to your Applicaitons folder, then do that install.
On a side note, there MAY be a way to make a disk image from the Mavericks application and avoid the entire Mountain Lion step.. I honestly do not know, but a bit of hitting the search engines may find out if there is. I think that if you looked for "make Mavericks boot disk or boot image' you may find something.
    Good luck!

  • I've forgotten my administrator password and have lost the original install disc for my macbook but I do have the install disc for my imac; can I use the imac install disc to reset the administrator password?

I've forgotten my administrator password for my macbook pro and don't have the original OS X disc; I do have the OS X disc for my iMac.  Can I use this to reset the password?

You have nothing to loose by trying it.
I doubt it will boot but try it anyhow.
You will need to contact Apple for replacement install disks.

  • Deleting password and locks on iBook G4 OSX v.10.5

My iBook G4, running on OSX would not accept my user- and/or administrator-passwords and I could no longer install programs. Therefore I started it up on m Mac OSX Leopard v.10.5 dvd (holding down c) and used it resetting the passwords, then updated the system on the iBook (1,25 GB RAM). All went well, and soon the computer came up with logon with my name and a demand for password. I entered the new password, but NO, it comes up with the correct password hint, but will NOT accept the password. I am totally locked out. As my attempt to restart on installation dvd and redo the previous procedure failed and only brought me back to logon, I decided to try using the Startup Manager Procedure. This too failed, no alternative volumes came up, only a padlock (locked) and an arrow, and the dvd seems to be stucked inside, as the eject key failed to eject it. I desperately need your advise on how to handle this. Even if I have a MacBook Pro too, I really love my little iBook and use it every day in the living room. Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for getting involved. Part of the problem is that the computer will not boot from install-dvd anymore. I can not even get the dvd out. I am afraid that I have reset the hardware-/root-password as well, together with user- and administrator passwords, but how can it be that the computer suddenly refuse to accept the correct passwords?
As explained, using the startup-manager only gives me a padlock, not an opportunity to choose startup-volume. Is there any simple way of re-formatting and re-installing OS? No vital datas on the computer that could not be restored.
Please note that I need detailed how-to-instructions, as I am not very familiar with the problem-solving-side of Macs.
Please do not give up on me if you have some ideas how to handle the problem. Dag

  • Updating iphone 4s to ios 8, install failed for unkown reasons, trying to restore iphone and asked for password. I enter my itunes password then my iphone lock password and still get error message wrong password. What password do they want?

Trying to update iphone 4s to ios 8. Install failed for "unknown reasons". Trying to restore I phone from I tunes, asked for password to complete restore. I enter ITunes password and then iphone lock password and neither is accepted. What password is required?

I think the password it asked is the one that you used to encrypt iPhone backup.

  • Unable to install "Mavericks" as it asks for my 'Admin Password" and it does not work. Have not used it since I got my iMac in 2008. First upgrade to do so. Any solutions please?

I have a 2008 iMac which had Leopard initially and I have upgraded to each new OS without a hitch. I downloaded "Mavericks" and began the install, it asked me for my "Admin Password" which I have never ever used since I set the Mac up, I have it safely tucked away so entered it, it rejected it each time. Am sort of lost now, as if my "Admin P/W" does not work here can I go from here?
I have seen many others with this problem but so far most of the solutions seem to be for the "log in" or "User" password not the Admin one.
I am running Mountain Lion successfully.
I have my original disks as supplied and also a Snow Leopard install disk.
I have seen some info about fixing this via Lion Recovery partition which I must have due to using Mt Lion.
How can I repair this situation.
Thank you to all those who respond.

    Thanks for your reply.
I have visited both the sites you listed but it seems to me that the solutions mentioned are to fix the User or log in p/w's.They do not seem to refer to the admin one again.
I understand about it being just like other user accts but the fixes do not really refer to it only the above two.
I have no problem booting up my Mac, I do not use a log in p/w so my problem is with the Admin p/w that was set up back in 2008. This is what I need to reset etc.
I am quite confused over these pw's as to just what is what and I need to make sure I understand all before I get into deeper trouble following these links.
This Admin p/w that was set up has never been used and is the only p/w I have except for my Apple ID. All previous upgrades only required my user name log in which has no p/w set up.
I hope you can follow me here butI have read so much on this it is becoming very confusing about whcih p/w's are what.

  • Need to master password and need to run install dvd

For some reason it is not accepting my admin password, then it takes me to the master password, after i enter it if asked me if i want to reset admin password. I click yes, then it asked for new password and to verify and no matter what i enter it does not accept it. strange. So I guess I need to run the disk that came with computer to change the master password but all I get when I start computer is logg in screen..how do i run disk on start up before logg in screen?
Id appreciate any help, thanx in advance.

Insert the install disk that came with your Mac, restart the Mac, and hold down the "c" key until you see the "spinning gear" boot icon.
    Regards.

my friend gave me ipod touch with all his accounts, i created new accounts but when i went on the appstore and tried to update apps installed by him,i was asked his account's password! i dont know his password.how can i use my account to update apps?

You can't.  Apps and really all content purchased/downloaded through one Apple ID is forever tied to that Apple ID.  In the case of Apps they will always request that Apple ID to update as they are licensed to that Apple ID.
In reality, the Apps were licensed to that Apple ID by the developer.  And cannot simply be given away to you for you to use.
He should have wiped the iPod clean so you could set it up for your use without any of his accounts or purchased content as you are not really licensed to any of those Apps.
Your friend should have followed this support document before giving the iPod to you:
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

I have iBooks 2.1 on ipad. I changed my password and can no longer update the app. If I delete the app and install the updated version, will I lose the books I have purchased?

Try logging out of your account on the iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if you can then update the app.
If you do delete the app then you should be able to re-download your ibook purchases via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the app. But in case some of them are no longer available in the store and/or you have PDFs or epubs in it, then you could first connect it to your computer's iTunes and do File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) which should copy them over to the Books part of your iTunes library so that you have your own copy of them and can sync them back (even though they aren't iTunes purchases it should also copy over any PDFs or epubs that you have in the iBooks app)

  • Username and Password won't work after Archive & Install...?

Can someone help me out here. I had to do an Archive and install on my sisters iMac G4 this evening, for Tiger OSX. She was getting continual Kernel Panics and could not boot to her desktop even once. So I did the Archive and Intsall, but after 2.5 hours and using both Disc 1 and Disc 2 for the process (like it had asked for)...and it all finished, a welcome screen pops up after the OS launches prompting me to enter the computer name, and password. We have this information saved, and always have, but the iBook is not accepting them?? Any thoughts or suggestions on what we should do next? The options I have on this screen are (sleep, restart, shutdown, or login...with the name and password fields above) Thanks everyone. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Smartmediaman

I did check those options to preserve the users and network prefs. Just put in the install disc 1 and ran change password, but the only option in the drop down was for the system administrator (root), and I put in a new password, and confirmed it, then...rebooted to desktop and same window popped up prompting me to enter the computer's username and password, and still...nothing worked. Any other ideas folks? Thanks,
