Password prompts - Exchange 2013 RTM vs. [Outlook 2007 & Outlook 2010] - Fully patched
Exchange 2013 RTM - Multi-Tenant
ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Ntlm
InternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Ntlm
IISAuthenticationMethods : {Basic, Ntlm, Negotiate}
Clients using Outlook Anywhere only, not Exchange domain members.
1. Windows XP SP3 (fully patched), Outlook 2007 SP3 + Nov 2012 Patch - When launching Outlook prompts for password only once.
2. Windows 7 (fully patched), Outlook 2010 (fully patched) - When launching Outlook doesn't prompt for password.
I'm aware of this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956531
The goal - Eliminate issue with password prompts for Windows XP.
Any chance resolving this? CU install? Anything else?
Thanks.

Hi,
Based on my experience, the credential issue is mostly likely caused by authentication method.
And I recommend the following troubleshooting:
1. Change LmCompatibilityLevel on the windows XP client to a value of 2 or 3:
a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\
c. In the pane on the right side, double-click lmcompatibilitylevel.
d. In the Value data box, type a value of 2 or 3 that is appropriate for your environment, and then click OK.
e. Exit Registry Editor.
f. Restart your computer
2. Reset the windows credential store.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,

Outlook 2007 and 2010 on Windows XP keeps asking for password
I have a fresh installation of Exchange 2013 installed on Windows 2012 and the problem is that Outlook 2007 and 2010 which is installed on Windows XP keeps asking for password.
The problem occurs only on Windows XP while on Windows 7 is working fine.
Any help will be appreciated!Hello
I had similar issue in my environment -Exchange 2010 SP2 UR4-v2 ,DAG 2 MBX servers(MBX1 and MBX2) in production site ,2 CAS in production site ,17 mail box databases , Public folder replicated to all the mailbox servers.
strangely users using outlook 2003 and outlook 2007 were being prompted for user name passwords.
investigations were done as follows
1. test connection status -click on the outlook icon in the lower right of the users desktop.clicked on test connection status ..
2. found that the username was being prompted while attempting to connect to the public folder in MBX1 server.
3. using EMC on the exchange server, changed databases pointing to public folder in MBX1 to public folder in MBX2. This solved the issue for us.however we were not sure of what the exact issue was ..was it public folder corruption in MBX1? .we found
that the users were being prompted for username and password only in outlook 2007 and not in OWA or outlook 2010. this made us rule out possibility of Public folder corruption in MBX1 server.
4.raised a case with microsoft to do a RCA (root cause analysis) . The resolution from them was to change the exchange RPC service on MBX1 from "network service" to "local account" and switch back to "network service".
The reason stated by microsoft is "password cache corruption" .Any ways the problem was solved at the server level.
Hope this helps all of you who have been scratching your head over this issue

Exchange 2013 mailboxes not accessible in outlook
Hi,
In the middle of migration from one exchange 2010 server to 2013 server and thought things were going well. However migrated mailboxes to exchange 2013 are not accessible through outlook although they are through OWA most of the time.
I ran test connectivity comandlet on 2013 server on mailboxes and they tested okay.
However when you connect to mailbox it says exchange unavailable.
I have a new ucc certificate on the exchange 2013 server that includes mail.contoso.com and autodiscover.contoso.com. These are both setup to point to 2013 server with split brain dns. The 2010 server has a certificate for mail.contoso.com.
The SC for autodiscovery right now for both the exchange 2010 and 2013 servers are https://mail.contoso.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
When I run outlook connectivity test I get the following failure:

Did you migrate your DNS to point to the new Exchange 2013 Server?

Microsoft Outlook 2007 - outlook.pst is not a personal folders file
I don't understand why this error occurred.
This makes me wonder if my backups of my computers are good operational backups.
My computers have been backed up on my network for several years using
Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011.
I have reloaded Windows 7, Office 2007 and associated programs on one of my computers.
I also restored my outlook data file from WHS 2011 to my documents folder.
After opening Outlook and pointing to my data file, I receive the error below:
Error message from Outlook 2007:
outlook.pst is not a personal folders file
I have tried Microsoft Fixit and scanpst with no success.
What else can be performed to repair this file? Thanks again, I don’t have a problem with paying for the software and or support. I just want to be assured that the software and or support
will repair my entire outlook.pst file before I pay. As stated before, I plan to contact Stellar this coming week. Maybe the message I received was due to not purchasing the product.
I like the idea of purchasing Stellar Software. I believe it will be useful in the future. Although I have some questions about the software for other applications.
Thank you for all your responses. If you should have anything else to share, I would be interested. -
Since installing itunes 11, we can no longer sync to our Outlook 2007 and 2010 calendars (there may be other Outlook files included in this syncing problem). Using the iCloud is not an option as it does not support Vista OS. We are trying to reinstall iTunes 10.7, however; that is not going particularly well, either. Does anyone have a proven solution for this mess?
FYI: It seems it was a network problem with my WinXP PC. After complete deletion and new installation of XP and iTunes my iPhone will be recognized correctly, Wifi synchronization works (mostly) fine.

Archive PST file not showing e-mails from recent to Jun 2013 upon updating from Outlook 2007 to 2010
Scenario at 8 AM: Working on Windows XP (SP3) with Outlook 2007. Active PST files are 1. server based Inbox folder & 2. an archive PST, manually created, which has multiple folders. The system is handed over to IT Team to upgrade
Scenario at 2PM: Windows 7 (64 bit) installed and MS Office 2010 with Outlook 2010 installed. E-mails are re-configured to server and all active pst are re-mapped. Receive fresh e-mails.
Problems: All e-mail from 8AM today to 26-Jun 2013 disappear including folders and sub folders created during that perion from the manually created archive pst.
Please help me resolve this issue and get back my e-mails from 26-Jun 2013 to 8 AM,11-Mar-2014.
## My job is at stakeHi,
Which type of email account are you using? POP3, IMAP or Exchange server?
Did you check the archive PST file after you finished creating it? Does it contain all emails you want?
How did you re-map your pst files? We can just click File > Open > Open Outlook Data File... browse to your pst file and open it in your Outlook.
We can also try to use the Inbox repair tool to scan and repair your pst file to check if it's corrupted. Please also have a look at the link below and check if these recovery tools help:

Good Luck!

Hello all,
I am a sysadmin at a 3 campus school, and am trying to extend our AD schema to include Exchange 2013 attributes so that we can configure groups synced to Office 365 using DirSync. However it keeps failing at the same point each time.
I have tried with RTM first, and then CU6, but I keep getting the same error and am unsure how to fix it.
"repadmin /showrepl" says that our 3 DCs are replicating with no issues, and I'm trying to extend the schema using an "Enterprise Admin"/"Schema Admin" account on our schema master DC.
Our domain/forest functional level is Server 2008R2, and we do not have an Exchange server set up already - if that helps.
The PowerShell error is:
PS C:\Users\rbbr\Desktop\Exchange> .\setup /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

File copy complete. Setup will now collect additional information needed for installation.

The schema attribute "CN=ms-DS-GeoCoordinates-Altitude,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=kurnai,DC=lan" does exist in the schema, but I don't know what to do or where to go from here.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.I just tried .\setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:kurnaicollege /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms, and got the exact same error as above.
Is there a way to delete the offending schema attributes, or to force its overwrite or something?
EDIT: I am also getting these eventvwr errors when running /PrepareAD, if it helps:

Password prompt Error with Bex and Excel 2007
Hi Guru's,
We have a problem with end users that have the Bex add-in loaded in Excel 2007 when they are using a different 3rd party add-in. The problem is when they close Excel, they get password prompted for a password protected VB project in the workbook.
I found a MSFT article that sounds exactly like the problem I'm seeing. Link is below.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
Thanks
Brian WinterlichHi Brian:
Take a look at SAP Note 1397278 - "BPC: Pop-up window prompting for a password to unprotect the sheet in Journal template with Office 2007 SP2".

Exchange 2013 SP1 On-prem - Disable Outlook Anonymous NTLM?
I'm aware there is a Group Policy admin template available to force Outlook to request only NTLM or basic authentication, however, I'd like to disable Outlook Anonymous NTLM on the server side in our Exchange 2013 SP1 on-premises installation.
Is there a method to disable Anonymous NTLM for Outlook client connections for the cas or organization? I've tried the "Set-OutlookAnywhere" InternalClientAuthenticationMethod and ExternalClientAuthentcationMethod but Outlook is still
able to connect with Anonymous Authentication selected for the logon network security.
Thanks
John LoweryHi Jim,
No luck. I checked the CAS Default Web Site\Rpc Authentication and the MBX Exchange Back End\Rpc as well, and both have Anonymous Authentication disabled. However, Exchange still allows Outlook to establish Anonymous NTLM connections.
My understanding is that the Authentication controls for the web site do not control the Outlook RPC over HTTP connection.
I have been able to use an administrative template to force Outlook clients to avoid Anonymous NTLM, but I would prefer to enforce it on the CAS or MBX, because doing it on the client side causes Office 365 Exchange connection failures - there's no way to
specify connection restrictions only for on-premises servers. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2975918.
Thanks,
John -
Exchange 2013 co-existence with 2007 can not send from 2013 - receives OK
2013 SP1 -separate servers for MBX and CAS - 4 of each. Exchange 2007 configured as a CCR
I am in co-existence mode but have not yet switched on the legacy.domainname.com. I have a new certificate installed on all servers - 2007 and 2013 with the legacy namespace included
I can receive on the exchange 2013 servers and can send to exchange 2013 users but cannot send to 2007 users or externally. I have enabled protocol logging and I'm seeing:
2014-04-02T00:57:31.476Z,Outbound Primary,08D1120CF8FEEDBA,0,,10.0.9.1:25,*,,attempting to connect
2014-04-02T00:57:52.521Z,Outbound Primary,08D1120CF8FEEDBA,1,,10.0.9.1:25,*,,"Failed to connect. Winsock error code: 10060, Win32 error code: 10060, Error Message: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a
period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 10.0.9.1:25"
The client has a pair of Axway mailgateway appliances (Tumbleweed). We can Telnet between the exchange 2013 servers and the Axways. There is a firewall between these mail gateways and the exchange servers and the following ports were opened - 25,443,465,995,110
I used the existing send connectors from 2007 and just added the mailbox servers to them. I created 2 new receive connectors to match 2 specialist 2007 connectors.
But I still can't send mail. Any suggestions where next to check?Hi Tony
Based on the protocol logs error looks like there is connectivity problem between Ex2007 and Ex2013
First you can try dropping an email through Telnet from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007 to see the message failure happens at which transit.
You can add the IP address of Exchange 2013 in Exchange 2007 default receive connector and vice versa.
Restart the transport service and try sending an email from exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007 and see the results
Also you can try creating a dedicated receive connector for Exchange 2007 in Exchange 2013 and vice versa if the above step does not work
Also try disabling the firewall and see if it helps.

Exchange 2013 Public Folder Missing in Outlook
Hello,
i have succesfully migrated from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
Everything was running after i migrated the public folders they disappeared on the Clients after starting Outlook 2013.
We are able to see the public Folders in OWA but not in Outlook.
Anybody know this Problem and can help?
regards
RenéHi,
Based on the description, everything was running after you migrated from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. When you upgraded from Outlook 2010 to Outlook 2013, you couldn't see public folders in Outlook 2013. However, you could see public folders in Outlook
2010, but you couldn't expand it. OWA worked well.
If I misunderstood your concern, please feel free to let me know.
About "No we had migrated to Office 2013 before but tested it now with Outlook 2010.", was the Outlook 2010 client a remaining Outlook 2010 client?
Did the issue affect all users or some of them?
Could you please switch between online mode and cached mode to check the result?
Best regards,
Belinda

Outlook 2007 Outlook Anywhere Clients - No Public Folders?
I have MS Outlook 2007 clients connecting to an Exchange 2013 server using Outlook Anywhere. My problem is that I can't see the Public Folders section in the Folder list (I'm sure I'm viewing the Folder list and not the Mail view). Any ideas why this is
the case? What does your connection status window show? Does is show "connecting" for public folders? This might point to a network or DNS resolution issue especially if it works fine in a different location.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123650(v=exchg.65).aspx
DJ Grijalva | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 SPA 2010 | www.persistentcerebro.com
It says "Connected to Microsoft Exchange". No indication it is trying to connect and we aren't having any other issues with the connection.
Just to clarify: For all our computers on our domain at our location, the Public Folders section shows up. For remote users that are connecting via Outlook Anywhere the Public Folders section is gone. Not even certain folders within that - the whole section
just doesn't show up like my screenshot shows. Weird.
Should there be a Public Folders section in OWA? If I'm not seeing it there I guess it would make sense that my remote users connecting via Outlook Anywhere wouldn't be seeing it? -
Why do i need outlook 2007 or 2010 for i cloud
why do i need outlook 2007 for i cloud i dont understand.
iCloud will still work for free, i.e sync your contacts between ios devices and the cloud (icloud.com) but for the calendar and addresses to sync with a windows PC you will need outlook 2007+.
However as you dont use that part at the moment i'm sesning no great loss - icloud bookmarks and photo stream will sync with a windows pc without outlook so the rest of icloud will still work for you for free -
How to remove OCS and install lync 2013 on MS Office 2007 and 2010
Hi,
We need to install lync 2013 on our systems having office 2007 and 2010 via SCCM 2012.
Please suggest.
Regards, Syed Fahad AliLync 2013 no longer has its own installer, but instead uses the Office installer. You can create a customized installation and deploy it just like you do with Office:
