Password protect Numbers spreadsheet?

Couldn't find a way to put a password on a spreadsheet to prevent others from opening it. Is this possible with Numbers?
Thanks

  • Password-protected Numbers spreadsheet only opens in computer that created it

I recently password-protected a spreadsheet file on my iMac.  It works just fine when I open it on my iMac.  However, if I try to open that same file from my MacBook Air, it rejects the password.  It says that the password is incorrect.  When I try to open that same file on my iPhone 5s, I experience the same outcome.  Then I go right back to my iMac, open the exact same file and type in the same exact password, and it works just fine again!!  Any ideas?

    Hi tommo,
Sounds like a corrupted plist (preferences) file.
Quit Numbers, then do the following:
The file indicated in the discussion linked in Ian's post is: com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    You'll find it at:
    Macintosh HD > Users > yourusername > Library > Preferences > com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
With versions of OS X after 10.6, the User Library is hidden. To get to your Library, start in Finder.
Go to the Go menu, press and hold the option key, and select Library. Double click Preferences, then locate and select com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and drag that file to either the Desktop or the Trash.
Then try double-clickig a .numbers file.

  • How to password protect numbers file on iphone?

How to password protect numbers file on iphone?
I've made a password protected numbers file on iMac and saved it to itunes.
When i open this file on my iphone for the first time i have to type in the password. But afterwards it's not protected anymore and i can open the file without the password!
How can i secure my files?

There is at this time no way to put a password in the Numbers app nor on a Numbers spreadsheet, and as Michael said it's not something a third-party developer could add. You can suggest that Apple add a password feature via their feedback pages:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
or you can look for a third-party spreadsheet app that does allow password-protecting a sheet. Documents To Go from Dataviz is a commonly-recommended app that supports spreadsheets, but I don't know if they support passwording.

  • I can no longer access a password protected Numbers file with the correct password. Error message only says the file "cannot be opened."

    I'm using Numbers version 3.2.2.
Suddenly I cannot access my password protected Numbers file with the correct password. I have the correct password written down so I know I haven't made a mistake.
The response box that pops up says that the file cannot be opened. There are no other options for me to choose from.

Also, I tried to open it through an older version of Numbers but it sent this error message.

I have a password protected excel spreadsheet, how can I get my iPads and iPhones to read this and save it password protected?

Documents to Go says that it, "Opens password protected Excel 97-2008 files", but does not say whether it can save them as "password protected".
    This might work for you.

  • Password protected Numbers document

    Hi,
I created a password protected Numbers document, off course I have forgotten the password to it.
Is there any way to recover the contents of this document? (3rd party app?)
I've read that Numbers doesn't encrypte the files so I'm guessing there must be a way.
    Regards
    Andries

Who said that Numbers doesn't encrypt the file?
Some of us wrote that we don't know the level of protection offered by the encryption scheme, no less, no more.
If I compare the Index.xml.gzip of a normally saved document and he one available in a protected one, the contents are completely differents (even the size changes).
If you buy a security lock for your house's door, I assume that you will take care of it.
It's the same with the keyword sed to encrypt a document.
Numbers is fair enough to give you the indice which you where urged to enter when you defined the password.
It you can't remember te code with this indice, it woul de useful to forger not only the passwords but also, the protection feature.

  • How to password protect "Numbers" app on iPad.

It would seem that iPad users might like to password-protect other Apps as well. If there isn't an App to do so, someone should create one. No, I don't want to jailbreak to get the Cydia app.

  • I have a password protected Numbers document I created on my MAC and share via DROPBOX. Is there any way to simply view this doc on my IPAD without purchasing NUMBERS for the IPAD?

I use NUMBERS on my MAC to create a password protected document.  I share this doc via DROPBOX.  Is there any way I can view the doc on my IPAD without purchasing NUMBERS for the IPAD?  The doc opened fine on the IPAD before protecting it with a password.

Using the term "opened" may have been incorrect on my part.  Before password protection, I simply viewed the doc by selecting it within my DROPBOX app.  No revisions could be made, but I could view the doc.    Now, with the doc password protected, the IPAD states this file can not be viewed.
The IPAD users guide gives a list of files IPAD can view. Unfortunately, I find no info on how to open/view that file should it be protected. If

  • Cant open password protected numbers 09 file

I created a Number 09 file and protected it with a password. IT worked for months but now everytime I try to open it I get this error message "THIS DOCUMENT CA NOT BE OPENED". I'm pretty certain its the right password, and its not giving me wrong password error, yet I cant open the file!!

Off the top of my head, the message sounds like the file is corrupted. Your best hope is a recent version saved in Time Machine.

  • Can cfspreadsheet read a password protected excel spreadsheet?

Wondering if there is a way to read a protected speadsheet. Don't see any documentation on that.

    This happens:
An error occurred while reading the Excel: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: The supplied POIFSFileSystem does not contain a BIFF8 'Workbook' entry. Is it really an excel file?.

  • Spreadsheet Password Protection

Is there a way to password protect a spreadsheet in Numbers for iPad?

Thanks Ashka - I could not find anything as well. I have several Excel spreadsheets that are password protected, but I cannot open them in Numbers for iPad. I thought perhaps I could remove the password, put them on iPad and then set a password. Password security would be an excellent addition to Numbers for iPad.

  • Can I password protect my numbers spreadsheet on my iPad

I just purchased my first apple ipad2 and I do a lot of spreadsheets in excel, I bought numbers and need to password protect my file so other family members can not get to my files. Can this be done? If so, how?
    Best regards,
    John

Not with the Apple Mail app.
    There are two 3rd party apps that use webmail resources that allow secure accounts as well as multiple accounts;
For Gmail accounts use Secure Gmail, and for other accounts use Secure Webmail. Both are in the iTunes App Store.

  • Is there a way to password protect a numbers spreadsheet in ios5?

    Hi,
I have created a numbers spreadsheet in my macbook and then i protected it with a password to open. Then i have uploaded it to icloud as i need to be able to access it from both my iphone4 and my ipad2. Although the spreadsheet is indeed accessible from all my devises, i don't get asked for a password neither on the iphone nor on the ipad and the spreadsheet opens right away without any protection (it actually asked for my password once, the first time i opened it in my ipad and tha was it. Since then it opens without asking for the password)
Why isn't the password i created in the macbook working everytime i open it in any of the other two devices?
Is there any way i can have it working everytime one tries to access it?
    Thx
    Ibro

This is an iOS question in an OSX app discussion, but I'll give an opinion. iOS devices are personal, and can be passcode protected themselves. It's reasonable to assume that once the file is opened on that personal device, it will always open on that device without further verification.

  • Can a numbers spreadsheet be password protected

Can anyone advise how a numbers spreadsheet can be protected on opening usingmiPad?

I have Numbers for iPad, but it is not handy at the moment ...
But I hope this can help.  It's from Numbers for Mac.  I'm hoping (though I'm not sure) the process is similar.

  • Password protecting a Numbers worksheet

    Hi gang!
I'm very new to Mac (bought my first MacBook 3 days ago!) and I'm just as new to iWork. I'm trying to use Numbers with old Excel spreadsheets that I've converted. One of the things that I loved about Excel is that you could password protect a file so it could not be opened or edited without knowing the password. I've been looking and looking and I can't find where Numbers does that. Does such a feature exist?

    Hello
I assumes that you have tell your system that it may use your password automatically (thru keychain).
If you did that it's like installing a secure lock … and put the key under the door-mat
