Past data usage?

I realize my plan is unlimited, but I wonder if anyone knows of a way to obtain a record of the past data used on my account (in GB per month over, say, the last year) - I'm curious and shopping around for alternatives, so want to know how much data I've actually used.  I contacted chat online (15 minutes), billing (15 more min) and tech support (another 15) and no one can tell me.
Thanks in advance!

  • Huge increase over past few months on data usage.

Huge increase in data traffic, even at times when systems are in sleep mode - like at 6am in the morning.  For months by usage levels varied between 10Gig and 12 Gig and I would adjust my plan as needed to prevent single Gigabyte overcharges.  However, in the past 4-6 months I have had to go to 15GB then 20GB, and what we actually do internet wise has not changed any where near that much.  Yesterday I had 600 meg of data transferred at about 6am when all systems were either off or in sleep mode.  The usage tool on verizon is no help in identifying what is driving this other than broad categories.
Last night I turned off the MiFi device and there was no data recorded until I turned on at 8:30am then it recorded 800 megabytes only based on turning on the PC and not even using it.  And the hard file light was on solid for a long long time.
I really need a tool that runs on the PC that shows what program or service is doing this much internet traffic.  I have seen disk I/O using Windows Task Manager that shows a number of Chrome services actively working I/O, as well as Google sync, but there is nothing new here that I have done over the past 6 months - my usage is very consistent. And that tool does not show who is driving the MiFi load.
How can I get a handle on this?  This is getting very expensive and there is no obvious answer why.

Personally, I use BitMeter OS for my PC. Any bandwidth from your computer (down/up) is logged & you can view certain days to see when it was used.
    https://codebox.org.uk/pages/bitmeteros
Also, you may be able to view Mobile AND WiFi data usage (separate tabs) on your mobile devices, under Settings > Data Usage. Click the 3 dots for options.
I had the same issue, but it was due to Verizon Cloud backing up... all 12gb (mostly pictures I don't even care about!).
You may have that or another app that syncs data. It should tell you under Data Usage, though.
I disabled Verizon Cloud through the App Manager.
    Hope that helps!

  • How can I find out my data usage for the past 3 months?

Greetings all, I have been a long time Verizon customer, and as such I, along with my husband, was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan. When I last spoke to a representative, they informed me that the only way we were going to be able to keep our unlimited data was by paying the full retail price ($600+) to get a new phone. So we were considering upgrading and changing to one of the newer data plans so we could still get the discounted price on the new phone, but I would like to make sure I choose one with enough data, without paying for a bunch of data that I don't use, however MyVerizon only shows me the amount I have used since the start of the billing cycle. Is there a way to find out the data usage for both my husband and myself for the last 3 months so I can choose the right option?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello sweetpea1221! How exciting that you're considering upgrading with us. mrhelper is helpful, indeed. You can view your data usage for each line under the View Bill option via your My Verizon account. You can also view your 3 month average  data usage with our Account Analysis feature. Here's a link that will be helpful in doing so http://bit.ly/vnLjqO. I'm confident that we have a great plan to match your data needs. Please let us know if you have further questions.

  • Ellipsis jetpack mismatch data usage with alerts

Ok, I have the ellipsis jetpack and for the past couple months I've had varying data usage issues...
This month, it mysteriously used more than 2 gb of data minimum without anything to my knowledge, being connected to it.
So I up the data and just dismiss it as the PlayStation 4 bring on and "the crew" coming out, since it may have updated content while I was sleeping for the other 9 gb.
But this morning, I have an email saying I've used 90% of my data allowance (of 20 gb). email time is 1:52 am, yet both the website and the jetpack show the data usage as of 6:18 am today 12/13 to be 15.3 gb (website says like 15.336).
This is frustrating to say the least, and really makes me like Verizon is trapping me into paying more money!
I also have family guard on the device and it's currently set to not allow more than 17 gb. It's been setup that way for probably a week now.
Also, before I upped the data cap from 10gb, I got two alert emails for each alert level, hours apart.
The first 50% was around probably 10 am, the second was late that night, after eight, I believe. Right around that same time, I got a 75% followed by 90, and later, another each of 75 & 90.
Imagine the frustration! Especially now that I'm paying an extra 4.99 a month to protect myself from going over the usage limit!
I was playing a ps4 game last night online (the crew), but didn't download anything outside of that, and watched a video or two on the net, both were short videos. All worked fine, and didn't have the email alert until this morning when I woke up.
Also: this is my first post, done from a tablet, so I'm sorry if it goes to wrong place

  • Data usage rounded up to nearest GB in Bill summary; Cannot download details as spreadsheet

    Two problems:
    1. Bill summary misrepresents data usage, rounding up to the nearest GB, for one of our 4 lines.
    2. Data detail "download to spreadsheet" does not work.
My account has 4 lines. I have an old Family Share plan (no longer available) for 700 minutes; a "feature" for unlimited text; and individual data plans for each of the 4 lines. My daughter has a 2 GB data plan.
Latest Verizon Wireless bill says my daughter used 1.0000000 GB of data. She didn't think so. I logged in to Verizon, went to "View Bill". then for the Bill Period: May 29, 2014 - June 28, 2014, I selected "Details for" > "DATA". I see all the usage by date and time; I can adjust the display from default "KB" to "MB". Then I clicked the link "Download to SpreadSheet ".
Unfortunately, I get a file with only one line, just the headers, no data:
"Date"    "Time"    "Usage Type"    "Description"    "Minutes"    "Application Price"    "Total"
As a workaround, I can select and copy the data on the web page, then paste it into a spreadsheet program. I added a "sum()" formula and found that she used only 325 MB, not 2 GB.

Does the bill say she used 1 GB or 2 GB? You had mentioned them both.
As far as the usage, it's not too say she literally used that much but to say that she used that much or less. It may not matter since she has the 2 GB/$30 which means that you would be billed the same way either way.
Your inability to download the spreadsheet may be due to an issue with your browser.

  • ITunes Match/iOS 7 iPhone music workaround for excessive data usage?

I just got an email from AT&T indicating I had exceeded 150GB of home data usage this month. It was because I used my home wifi to download 5000 songs to my iPhone from iTunes Match to fill it.
I'm frustrated, since it used to be so easy to make iTunes Match work for a large amount of music: In iOS 6 what I used to do (if I had to restore iPhone and set up as new phone): Plug iPhone 5 into computer, set up phone as new, check "manually manage music and videos" and "prefer 128kbps" and make sure iTunes Match was off in phone settings. Then drag & drop 5000 songs (about 40GB) from iTunes into phone. Once that was completed (a couple of hours), I could disconnect the iPhone from my Mac, turn iTunes Match to "on" in phone settings, and I'd get a message on the phone saying "All music on this device will be replaced" which is fine, but other than taking a while to update the remainder of my iCloud stored music, it used very little data.
Fast-forward to this past weekend. After updating to iOS 7.0.2 and having to do a restore and set up as new iPhone, this approach didn't work: When the step came "All music on this device will be replaced," all of the 5000 songs entirely re-downloaded all over again, which took 27 hours and burned through 40+ GB of home data (not phone data, since I was on Wifi). I kept my phone at home, plugged in and on wifi all weekend so as not to burn through all of my LTE data.
What is the deal? If I have to do this again (let's hope iOS 7.0.3 or 7.1 doesn't force my phone into recovery mode again), I certainly don't have the time or patience to let iTunes Match redownload all music again, and I certainly don't want to use up 40+ GB of home data.
Is there a workaround for this? Have others been successful transferring music via computer first and then turning on Match without problem in iOS 7.0.2? I'm sure it worked that way in iOS 6, and without completely redownloading all the music again, since that process would have taken several hours and a lot of home data, and I have not had any problems like this prior to iOS 7.

I think a better question is why do you "have to" restore your iPhone and set it up as a new device as often as you seem to? This seems to be more of a problem for you.
I followup question is why do you have iTunes Match turned on if you're syncing all your music to your iPhone?
Perhaps you should examine how you're using your iPhone and iTunes Match?

To answer this question, yes I have. It has always worked this way for me.

  • Data Usage is absurd.

Hi all - I switched to a prepaid plan because I rarely even use my phone anymore.  I send and receive text messages (unlimited), and make and receive occasional phone calls (unlimited).  I set my data limit at 500 mb because I wasn't even using 4mb, let alone getting close to a gb.  Suddenly, one week after paying for the month, I'm already at 460 mb?  Plus, I'm having battery drainage issues (as are most people after the downloading last iPhone update), so I've been using the phone even less than previously.  I am particular about my settings, and I have rarely even left the house, therefore using wi-fi in the interim; but as I said, the phone is generally just sitting in the bedside drawer, anyway, going unused.  Meanwhile, my current details show data usage every calendar day for 24 hour periods at a time (i.e. 1436 minutes already used this morning, and I've only just woken up!).  How is that even possible?  Please, someone help me figure out what on earth is going on!  There's absolutely no way I'm using that much data - especially given in the past decade or longer that I've had contracts with Verizon, I've never used this much data.  Any tips/advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!  Thanks so much and be well!

Question? Prepaid is normally unlimited talk, texting and data.
Why would using data be an issue?
Now if you have a prepaid plan with a data limit I would get another prepaid service that has unlimited everything.
T-Mobile has a $40 prepaid plan with unlimited everything and 4G LTE data included. There are many more plans out there. Some even use Verizon's towers or even AT&T towers. So coverage should be great.
Walmarts has many such prepaid plans. Visit a store near you.
    Good Luck

  • Data usage skyrocketing and I can't figure out why

I've been watching my AT&T data usage recently. I have the original iPhone and had expected to replace it this year. That will apparently cause me to lose the unlimited data plan, as per AT&T's latest announcement.
For some reason my usage, which used to run about 70-100MB/month, is getting towards the 1 GB level and climbing. Last month it was 770 MB. My bill details only show data "out," nothing "in." Most nights around 2:30 a.m there is a lot of activity, anywhere from 60KB to 80,000KB At that time the phone is asleep (as I am) and charging -- but not connected to a computer.
I've turned off Push email (which disables "find my Phone.") I have all app notifications turned off. My phone does not have GPS. I have wi-fi at home, but a lot of data transfers seem to be at times during the day when I believe I am connected via wi-fi. Except for the occasional App Store purchase on the fly, I download from iTunes to my Mac and sync with USB cable.
I do have 4 email accounts besides MobileMe and I retrieve mail manually to save battery life.
With the 2G iPhone on Edge, I cannot do streaming video and other things that I would want to do with a more capable phone. I am paying $99/year for MobileMe and have been advised to cripple it. AT&T customer support suggested that apps are the problem, but gave me no guidance on figuring out which apps might be the culprit(s). My understanding is that the iPhone doesn't allow apps to run in the background. I know Apple doesn't update without permission. I am not subscribed to any AT&T services that I know about.
I just want to understand how this all works. If there are some apps that are misbehaving, how do I figure out which ones? I do not want to get an expensive new iPhone and find out I can't afford to enjoy it.
I have restored the phone to factory settings twice in the past four months on advice from Apple.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have the exact same issue, as do some other people at the end of this macrumors thread. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=576888
I have MobileMe and 3 other email accounts but I don't think that's the issue. My 3GS is consistently doing accessing the 3G network middle of the night when I have a full WiFi signal from my home network. There is no reason that I should have any data activity during this time.
A Mac Genius told me that when the iPhone goes to sleep, wi-fi is disconnected. This means the phone is then on the cellular network. In my mind that is a design flaw. The phone goes to sleep to reduce energy usage, but the cell network uses more energy than wi-fi. That's a separate question from the data use issue, which is relevant for several reasons: cost, user control and privacy.

  • Weather App Affecting my Data Usage

    Hi Community,
Back in October 2013 when I changed my IPhone from a 4S to a 5S I had to go from an “Unlimited” plan to Tiered plan.  I went to a tiered planned capped at 2 GB per billing cycle.  This didn’t bother me because I would never use all of my allocated data and I usually came in way under 2gb’s
Under my new plan, I set up my data alerts to monitor my usage.   This past week on tuesday, I was notified that my usage was at 75% of the data allowed.   I immediately called VZW to ask how and the tech said that my phone had streamed for an inordinate amount of time around 18 hours while using a app, on the days where my usage was high.  The tech was unable to tell me which app, but advised me to take it into the store immediately.
I took my phone into the store and luckily the manager had the same issue on his IPad.  He replaced the Sim Card and reset the settings on my phone and credited my account $20 to pay for the extra usage.   Really great customer service!!!
Monitoring my data usage, I noticed that my phone would incrementally use the data plan even while on my wifi.    It would only do it in 8 hour increments, I was led to a previous post via Google (on the apple forums) and I found that the culprit may that I had set up my phone to automatically send diagnostic data.
I shut this feature off, being nosy I looked at the data that was being sent and noticed two odd diagnostic reports titled: Weather_2013_11.08_17:55 and Weather +Stacks 11/10 20:37:47.
The latter (Weather +Stacks 11/10 20:37:47.) diagnostic report I can only assume was informing me that the weather app stayed opened beyond its allocated time.  Which prevented the phone from sleeping so it the OS finally crashed the crashed the program.
Also I assume that the report was informing me that informed me in the app it had stayed connected to the weather server for 66,447 seconds, which is about 18.45 hours and used 1147387904 bytes of data or just over 1 GB of usage….
Now I’m not saying that these separate instances are related, but the interesting thing 11/10 I was shown according to VZW that I had amassed 66.51 MB’s.
I am wondering if anyone else has seen this correlation.  I have attached screenshots to clarify any confusing parts of the story.   there are three pics, so scroll all the way down

Settings > Cellular only counts cellular data.  I can verify that because I'm on AT&T and that carrier offers a service whereby you can telephone *DATA and receive a text message from them telling your month-to-date cellular data usage.  I can compare that number to what I see in Settings > Cellular and the two are pretty well equivalent.
Again, I do a Settings > Cellular > Reset Statistics at the end of every billing month.
UPDATE - I said "month-to-date cellular data usage" above.  I should have said "billing period to date."

  • IPhone 5 excessive data usage problem (carrier-AT&T)--any resolutions?

I got an iPhone 5 in June of 2013, and the billing period after I got it, I went over my data usage for the first time ever (I have been an iPhone user since 2010). I thought that it was just because I had been working out at a camp that got poor reception and had been using as much as I always did. However, in the subsequent months, I have racked up data overage charges every month, and since October, it's been several gigs over my plan. I have a 4gb plan with AT&T that I share with my parents (I am a college student), and they don't use hardly any data. As I am a nineteen-year-old, I admit that I do spend a lot of time on the Internet and use a lot of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, etc.), and I have always used a lot more data than my parents, but I don't think I'm doing much more than I did when I still had the iPhone 4 and 4s. I haven't gotten a chance to call AT&T yet to see what they have to say about it, and, unfortunately, my school is in the middle of nowhere and my hometown doesn't have an Apple store anywhere near it so I don't think I'll be able to get to a genius bar any time soon, but I've done a little research and found some threads here that mention problems with the iPhone 5 and data usage. Most of these threads seem to be related to Verizon or are from iOS 6 (and my phone is updated to iOS 7.0.4, which is the latest update at this date), and I wondered if it was still a problem for people.
In the past few minutes, I have done the following to the phone:
    Turned off Cellular Data
    Turned off iCloud Backup
Turned off Cellular Data for all unnecessary apps
Turned off Location Services for all unnecessary apps
Turned off Notifications for all unnecessary apps
Changed all email accounts to manual
Turned off Diagnostics and Usage sending
    Turned off Ad Tracking
    Turned off Documents and Data
Now, not to sound spoiled, but I think this is both tedious and a pain in the rear end. It seems to me like it's just treating the symptoms rather than the disease itself, so to speak. I feel that for the money we pay for what is essentially a handheld computer with phone capabilities, I should be able to use it as such. When I've turned off Cellular Data in the past to remedy this problem, I notice that I don't receive texts from a lot of people, which is really frustrating, because I feel like I basically just have a glorified iPod. If I had wanted an iPod, I would have bought an iPod. So, basically, has anyone experienced this problem recently/found a solution that actually fixes the problem rather than just masking it? I feel bad about the overage charges and am very annoyed with the fact that my old iPhone seemed to work better than this new one, and that I can't seem to find much evidence of either Apple or AT&T making much of an effort to acknowledge or fix this expensive problem. My phone reports that my cellular data usage for the current period (which ends on February 11, and it is currently January 28) is 21 GB, and I find it very hard to believe this to be true.
I'm about to reset my phone and see if that does anything, but I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here.
    Thanks.

I'm not trying to minimize your issues, but I have an iPhone 5S and find that I have not had these types of problems on AT&T. I'm wonding if something has gotten stuck in a loop that is continually trying to use data. If you make a good backup of your phone, try restoring it as new, and do not add anything to the phone right away. Let the device run like this for a little while and see what kind of usage you have. You report you phone is showing usage of 21GB. Did you rese this setting on the phone to begin at your billing period? The reason I ask this is some people believe this setting resets on its own with your billing period, it does not. This has to be manually reset by the user, so it might not be that accurate depending on the last time that you reset it.
If the phone seems to not use so much extra data during the period the device does not have extra apps on it, then try restoring from your backup and see what happens. If this increases your data usage quite fast again, then there is probably something corrupt in the backup that is causing this issue.

  • BIG swing in data usage?

I recently upgraded to iphone 6 from a 4s. No change in plan or features other than this. I have noticed a HUGE shift in data being used. I rarely used over 1/2 GB of data but in the past 3 weeks alone have used over 1.5GB. I looked at my data usage analysis and see a big chunk of this has occurred around 3:30am EST over the course of a few mornings. I am sleeping at this hour! I am connected to wifi 95% of the day so hardly any data should be used and I should still be using about the same as my usage of the phone has not changed. Any idea why this is occurring? My guess is maybe verizon is saying I'm using a lot of data even when connected to wifi but I can't seem to get CS to confirm this for me. At 3am when I am sleeping my phone is definitely on wifi. My only guess would be this is when a backup occurs and it's hitting data for some reason????
p.s. We also have an iphone 5 on the same plan in the same house and that usage has stayed as it always has been.

Hi TomCat03 - We want to make sure that you are able to manage your usage at all times! Something to consider about the iPhone is that WiFi will disconnect when the screen is off and in standby mode. If an update is allowed, emails sync or an app syncs cellular data will be used. You can turn off Cellular Data when not in use through Settings>Cellular. Also can view the apps using the most cellular data in the same screen. I am more than happy to offer further assistance if needed.

Alternatively, I can avoid the overage fees by agreeing to change my plan -- increase my monthly allowance -- but I have to pay the difference for all of the months that have already gone by all the way back to the beginning of my contract.  In other words, I have to pay for additional GBs for months that are in the past and for which I have no possible way to actually use that data allowance. This is NOT TRUE. You can have the change backdated to the BEGINNING of your CURRENT billing cycle but it WILL NOT go further back than that.
I must say, that as a business model for raking in un-earned revenue, it's pretty impressive.  As a customer, though, I'm not terribly impressed.
Does anyone else feel that these practices are just a wee bit unfair, to put it mildly?
I would think that the following would be fair business practices:
    (1) If I don't use some GB data allowance, for which I've already paid, then that allowance should roll into the next month OR; Verizon doesn't have roll over minutes and they most likely will not have roll over data.
    (2) I should get a refund for data allowance that I don't use. Should you ALSO get a refund for unused minutes while you are at it? I don't watch all of the channels for which my cable company charges me. I would prefer a refund for THOSE before I get a refund for minutes/data from Verizon. I would make a considerably larger refund with that.
    (3) Alternatively, since Verizon believes it is OK to charge extremely inflated overage fees, then I feel it's only fair that they refund to me, at that inflated rate, for GBs that I don't use in any given month.
How do the rest of you feel? I feel you should most likely look for a provider which better fits your view on how they should price their service. Good luck.
    Sincerely frustrated,

  • Apple i5 Data Usage

I have two i5's on my plan and one Droid. For the past two months my i5 Data usage has gone through the roof. I have spoken with tech support and they have walked my through all of the typical data burners and turned them all off. The i5's are burning 10x the usage of the Droid in the same environment. Is anyone else having this problem?

Go to http://www.apple.com and check their community help forum. There is a fix I believe for the data leak.
Some have posted you have to turn off iCloud to stop the leak. Additionally although a pain you can turn off cellular data when on wifi, and place the device in airplane mode when on wifi. There may be other solutions at the Apple site.
    Good Luck

  • Over data usage = mail locked ?!

I went over my data usage on Sunday, got the alerts but was ok to spend the extra money once so didn't increase my monthly allowance.
Since then, the email on my iPhone does not update anymore. I can access it through Safari but not the mail application.
I re-entered the pwd under Settings, no luck.
I have not changed any setting since the weekend, so ut does look related to the data usage but why? Even at home with wifi, it does not update.
    Any ideas, welcome!

I've been receiving overage alerts in my data since my sign-up for the new share everything plan, and Verizonwireless could not explain how 1.2gb in one week was used when my normal usage is only about .25gb/month for the past 2 years.
I need to know what is going on and the call center was no help.
Well you do realize with Share Everything ALL the line on the account share the data. Before you each had your own data allotments. Also going from .25 GB to 1.2 GB is using an extra 32 MB a day which is really nothing. Especially if you leave apps on auto update or have background data on 24/7.

Data usage is only available for the past 90 days:
On the left-hand side of the My Verizon page, click View Bill.
Use the drop-down to select the appropriate bill.
    Click the Calls/Messages/Data tab.
Use the drop-down to select the appropriate line (if applicable).
    Click the blue Data button.
There's also a blue Download to Spreadsheet button below the data logs.
