Pavilion f1703 monitor goes blank 2 seconds after start-up

When the computer is turned on, the monitor only functions for a couple of seconds before it goes blank..power light shows it to be working.
If I turn the monitor off at the front power switch, and turn it back on, the same thing happens..2 seconds of normal then blank.
In the couple of days leading up to this, the screen had a slight "flicker" effect going on.
All ideas greatly accepted!!

I am having the identical problem. I hooked this monitor that a friend gave me and it worked great for several days. There were no flickerings or any indications of a looming problem. Then it started going blank after 2 secs and continues to do that. I did see a warning about the "power saver", or something like that, was in operation. Unfortunately, I can't get it to stay on long enough to go into the menue and see if there is anything I can change there. Any help would be appreciated.

• IBM Thinkpad Monitor goes blank after a few miniutes

Hi,
I have aT43p with an ATI Mobility FireGL V3200 running XP Sp2. For the past couple of weeks the screen goes blank (Black) after several minutes. I can use the Fn-F7 to toggle the monitor between LCD and external monitor (which is not attached) and back to LCD (or dual display) and the LCD works again!, but alas only for several more moments and then it goes blank again and I have to re-toggle. I find that if I run on only battery power I get several extra minutes before Blacks-Ville. The same effect can be achieved by putting her to sleep and then waking her.
I should mention that there is a slight pink tinge to the display during the initial splash screen (while the option to enter the Bios via blue Access IBM button), but this goes completely for subsequent screen displays.
I can connect across the LAN using VNC and can see windows (as one would expect).
I have gone to the support area and downloaded all drivers and reinstalled to no avail. I have also checked the Monitor connections, but there is no obvious loose connection. I have also run a in-depth virus analysis (using ESET NOD) and an Adaware sweep, again with no positive result. I have also gone into MSCONFIG, disabled as much as I can and I have also rolled back using System Restore to a time before the issue presented.
Nothing that I have done to date has made the slightest difference.
The screen Blacks even if I go straight to Bios which inclines me to think that the problem lies outside of Windows.
If anybody has any ideas or suggestions I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Dave

Hello ddempsey,
I can confirm all your problems (except the "slight pink tinge"- sure it is not
a reflection or so?), I've got them on my a21p since a couple of years as well.
I am using an external monitor after I tried all software possibilties and was
fed up with the toggling. colours are still excellent, I contradict a dying
as such, a digital display is either on or off, not fading away.
in desperation I replaced the inverter card (part number 12P3053) as a
last resort but without any success.
so I was happy to find one with exact the same problem and I hope
by jumping on your train that someone comes up with a solution.
have you tried this:
if you do not boot windows, leaving a plain start screen
either by pressing pause or later f8 the display shuts down
in the same way, thereby proving that the problem
is beyond an explanation due to a higher resolution task.
this arouses a suspicion whether the ATi Rage Mobility graphic card
(messing up in all brands of notebooks - see copious complains in the www)
might be the cause. unfortunately ATI been bought by AMD
but the support of its successor for old cards is a disgrace compared
what Lenovo still delivering for ancient IBM users!

• TM fails a few seconds after starting first backup

So I buy the 1TB GForce Phantom drive and hook it up via my FireWire 800 on my Dual G5 Tower running Leopard 10.5.2. Using the Disk Utility I partition it into two HFS Extended volumes, naming the second one TimeMachine.
I fire up the TM application for the first time and configure it to use this mounted volume. A few seconds after starting the first backup, it quits with an Error 11.
Below is a clip of the Console log.

I finally had an opportunity to repair permissions and test TM again.
It still aborts with the error 11.
I think it has to do with a file or files in the directory /.TechToolProItems
So I'm going to delete all the files in this directory so that Tech tool will rebuild them. I'll let you know the results.

It sounds like your iPhone may be restarting unexpectedly while you’re using it. Take a look at the article linked below and, if you haven't already, try installing the latest version of iOS on your device.

seconds after starting Itunes it stalls. This just started happening after I downloaded the new version. Help! My computer runs on windows vista I think

Which "new version"? Websites think you are using Firefox 3.0.19, which is no longer supported. Maybe your User Agent is "stuck" on that old version?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Agent
type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter
''If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.''
Filter = '''general.useragent.'''
Right-click the preferences that are '''bold''', one line at a time, and select '''''Reset'''''.
Then restart Firefox

I was working on my computer when all of a sudden the screen went grey with 5 vertical pink lines appeared. I have switched the monitor off, but now it starts up with the pink lines then goes to a blank screen, what is the problem?

Sounds like a hardware problem ..

• Pavilion H8 - 1240T goes blank due to power saver settiing ?

ok a while back I was having this same problem where my H8 - 1240T was going to a blank screen..... the fix was to completely turn off any screensaver and sleep mode..... blank screen/total freeze problem has come up when I stupidly tried to experiment with some power saving mode settings and now I can't get the screen to stay on for more than 5 minutes ! Multiple boots bring up a blank screen even though there are no error beeps when the computer powers on.... after an overnight shut down I am able to boot up into Windows 7 to try and turn off all power saver settings but the screen eventually goes blank...... in the past HP tech support has been unable to pin the problem down so I am asking if anyone has experienced this same situation and what the fix is..... I have an image of my hard drive when things were working good but I'd like to fix it without having to reinstall..... I'm thinking this is some sort of driver problem/conflict with the Nvidia card. I'd like to someday be able to use a screensaver with this machine !

Hi bigollo,
I saw your post and I will be happy to help. There is definitely something going on with the graphics card and/or drivers. Let's start by checking the hardware. Below is a document about how to use the HP Diagnostic Tools. I would do the System Check – Extensive Check and under Components do the Video Test.

If you are using the standard graphic card that came with the Pavilion here is the driver for it below.

• HP Monitor going to sleep on start up

Ok, I've dealt with this problem long enough. I have an HP pavilion Elite, hpe 400f. Monitor worked great on it, then one night while I was checking my email, the picture went scrabled, and ever since I am faced with a "Monitor Going to sleep" error on start up. I can not get into my settings or do anything.
It does not work on other working monitors, I tried a whole new set of cables and when that did not help, I went and bought a new graphics card. That did no good either. But I can not install the drivers until I can actually see how to do it.
So what now? Nothing HP told me works. I am about to go crazy with this. I've begged HP to help me for a year off and on to no prevail.
Can you PLEASE help me?

• HP Omni 220-1050xt Monitor goes blank at random times and will not light up.

Recently my computer screen starting going blank without any warning. One minute it is fine and I am working away, then the screen turns black and no key sequence will bring it back. I have selected a power scheme that has never, never, never set in the categories. I also sent my screen saver to None. I took it to Staples to run a diagnostic which responded with no errors. Within 15 minutes of running, the screen was blank and the computer was unresponsive.

Hello @jlh41,
I understand that you are experiencing an issue where your HP Omni 220-1050xt Monitor is going blank without warning. I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try different cables between your computer and monitor.
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. I run a Windows 7 64-bit machine, with NVidia Quadro 2000, driver updated (333.11), source footage is png files, my OS is up to date, I use just a single monitor, there are no error messages at all, when I try to scrub, my program monitor stops working (it shows a still image), then suddenly it goes completely black! I have no third party effects, plug-ins or hardware installed. And yes, my Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration is good. I am completely stumped since the project is barely started. Does anyone have any ideas?!

So... have you tried a different driver?

• Thunderbird crashes within seconds after starting, even when I completely reinstall it. Caused by Facebook Photo Uploader" (fbplugin)

The basics: Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite, 10 GB RAM. Thunderbird version 31.3.0 (though the same thing happens when I try earlier and later versions).
Symptom: Thunderbird crashes within a few seconds of starting it up. I have enough time click on a menu or two, perhaps glance at a message, then it crashes.
Attempted solutions:
- Starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode.
- Starting the Mac in Safe Mode.
- Deleting ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.thunderbird.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/Thunderbird, deleting the Thunderbird application, emptying the trash, and reinstalling Thunderbird from mozilla.org.
- Using Yosemite Cache Cleaner to scan the hard drive for viruses, and to deep-clean all System and User caches.
- Booting from the Recovery partition, repairing disk permission, and repairing the filesystem.
The only time Thunderbird has semi-stable is just after I've deleted all preferences, started it up, and I do the initial set-up for my e-mail account. Everything appears normal, and my list of IMAP folders appears. But shortly after that Thunderbird crashes again, and keeps crashing at every subsequent restart.
This is a problem that developed last Wednesday, Dec 24; prior to that the program ran just fine. No other program on my computer at work is showing these symptoms. Thunderbird works on my Macintosh at home (same software versions) and on my Linux computer at work.
I'm at a loss of what to try next. Any ideas?

Or you can try Earlybird from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/ which should have the patch from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1086977

• Broadband drops 30 seconds after starting browser

My broadband stops working or drops everytime about 30 seconds I start the browser on my laptop. I am able to click on a few links and then it would say Problem Loading Page, Server Not Found. After waiting for another 30 seconds it would start working again. But then it drops again randomly every hour or so for 30 seconds. Please can someone give me some advice?
Here are some facts about the problem
1. All 3 blue lights on Home Hub 3 stays on
2. Problem is the same for wireless and ethernet cable
3. My laptop works perfectly at work without dropping
4. My friend used his Macbook on my bt broadband with no problem until I opened my browser and starting browsing.
5. I tried the quiet line test and hear nothing
6. The homehub is connected to the main socket via a filter
7. BT sent me a new hub but the problem is the same
8. BT have reset my line at least 5 times and told me to wait 24 hours but problem still persist

from your description it appears a problem with your laptop as it causes the dropped connection. have you checked wireless card driver it up to date from manufacturer's website not windows update.
have you tried a different browser to see if it helps? have you checked your anti virus program is not blocking
