PC + iWeb problem

http://www.bgclanc.org
Hello!
I am a recent convert to Apple...I just started work at the Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster and bought a Macbook to help me. I created a new website for the B&GC with iWeb and it looked great on the Macbook. But when I uploaded it I ran into several problems.
1) The site does not load correctly in IE (on PCs).
The menu navbar loads slowly, pictures load slowly, and the text is not anti-aliased, giving the whole site a grainy look.
2) The site does not load correctly in Firefox (on PCs).
Imagine my surprise! When I had problems in IE I checked it in Firefox on the PC and it looked exactly the same as in IE, grainy and slow.
When I checked the site on the Macbook, it of course looked fine in Firefox and Safari. So I can't figure out why it not only looks awful in IE, but any browser on a PC.

MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

http://www.bgclanc.org
seems to be forwarded to itself and thus I can't see
anything there. Could you provide your .Mac url
please?
Yeah, I did change the forwarding on that so I could mask the name. I'll undo that. But it's not hosted on .Mac, it's hosted on GoDaddy.com.

Can anyone help me with an iWeb problem? I cannot save the site after making changes. I receive this error: "website.sites2 could not be saved"

You could try duplicating the Domain.sites2 file and launch this in iWeb. Delete the last page you edited and try saving. If that doesn't work, undo and try deleting another and so on...
If you can find the problem page you would only have to rebuild it rather than the whole site.
The other possibility is to create a new site on the same domain file and drag each page in turn down to it from the top site and try to save each time.

  • AOL and PC iWeb problems?

Why don't my iWeb pages appear in AOL? Is there a fix for this forthcoming from Apple?
I've seen posts here that complain about iWeb sites not displaying properly on PC's but all of my friends with PC's report no problem with my site. Are there certain circumstances or certain browsers that are specific to producing iWeb problems on a PC? (As in, is there anything I should avoid doing on my pages?)
    Thanks...

Why don't my iWeb pages appear in AOL?
What are you seeing exactly? A url would really help in figuring out what you are talking about.
    Is there a fix

    I doubt it.

  • Error Publishing from iweb 09 - Server or iweb problems??

I upgraded from iweb 08 (I had no issues) to iweb 09, and I have publishing errors more than half the time. Are the mobileme servers having problems, or is there a hack in the iweb software?
This is a big problem because I have 20 Gb of pages with video that I need to re-publish. It is bad enough that I will be tying my network up for 2 weeks, but that I often don't make progress.
The message is "Error connecting to mobileme, check network.. .." The problem is that it uploads for an hour or so before it stops.. I am double checking to see if my routing is causing the problem, but I don't think so..
Is Apple working on this? Are there numerous people who are now stuck re-publishing their sites and the servers are getting beat up? Does anyone know how to diagnose this type of problem?

Finally i solved the issue of Publishing Error in iWeb 09 with MobileMe.
Procedure which i followed and might also help you guys.
Lets say your default site name is XYZ then create a new site e.g. ABC.
Thereafter dragged all pages from default site XYZ to new site ABC ONE BY ONE.
*In the preference folder delete any PLIST files related to iWeb (i had two files in my folder).*
*Once you drag all pages from your default site to new site there after just make a new blank page and publish the site.*
Then start dragging first one page from new site ABC and publish one page. There after repeat all pages one by one and publish after every page you drag from new site ABC to default site XYZ.
Once you finish then take a backup in time machine of the domain.
There after start your blog page then publish again then start photos album page, publish again then your movie page, publish again etc because these are the pages which were mostly creating errors.
After you complete the final page and publish remove the blank page and publish again.
I spent 3 days with the same problem and finally i could finish by this method in few hours.

  • My iWeb problem stumped the Genius Bar

Hello all , first post , apologies in advance for its length .
I got a problem thats really frustrating me . The Genius man in the apple shop couldn't help , he'd never seen this problem before so he suggested I try here . Here's the thing .
I've made a site for my photography with my own domain name www.davestrachan.com . Galleries up , blogging away to myself , everything was working fine for months . Until .... one day I added some more blog entries , saved but didn't upload them and switched off the mac . I opened up iWeb the next day and half the pages are either blank or show only the grey background , not just the new pages but older ones also . The welcome page & about me , all the galleries and several of the blog posts are gone .
I'm pretty new to this so I only know the basics , thats why I use iWeb because it's easy . I've tried uploading to a folder on the desktop and get an unknown Publish error . I tried deleting the iWeb preference file & even transferring the Domain.sites2 to another mac to see if it works , sadly no joy there .
Don't shout at me but I only recently learned how to back up iWeb .... yup you guessed it ... after the disaster so that options out . It's also happened a couple of times before to one or two pages in the blog but Iv'e just shrugged and redone them . This time it's obviously more serious .
I guess I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and redo it all again , learn from my mistakes & back up lots in future , but does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it ?
    Thanks .
    Dave .

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Paragraph 2.3 of iWeb FAQ site has some tips on how to use some of the files from the published site in rebuilding: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html. There have been a couple of posts of similar experiences, closing iWeb and when reopened the pages were empty or partially empty. I don't remember any fix-all for that. The problem sounds a lot like a problem with iPhoto, the library is good but when after shutting down and rebooting the next day it's appears empty. Fortunately there's a way to protect against that. But not with iWeb.

  • Iweb problem - auto creation of subfolders when uploading website

when i originally uploaded my website the uploads went straight to the url <stgeorges.co.uk>. (done via ftp, don't use mobile me)
now when i am updating the site, iweb seems to be automatically creating a subfolder to put updates in <stgeorges.co.uk/st_george> whilst retaining the original out of date pages.
i've had a look through the forums and found one post that seems to imply that this is a symptom rather than a fault of iweb (ie a fault that can't be corrected!)
can anyone tell me a way to correct or bypass this problem?
insofar as i'm aware i haven't modified the iweb page in anyway that it would start to do this. it seems iweb i thinking "oh, let me help" when that is not what i want. i have of course modified the index/home page now and i thought it may be separating owing to a duplicate file, when all i want it to do is replace the original!!!
any help would be most appreciated!!!!

iWeb creates and publishes an index.html and a folder containing the website files. This is what is uploaded to MobileMe using webdav or to a server using FTP.
To remove the extra sub directory you need to publish to a local folder and upload the contents of the folder only, rather than the folder itself, using an FTP application.
This may seem tiresome and unnecessary but, most people who are publishing to a "real" server and purchasing a domain name, probably want their site to be found by search engines and to download faster than the average iWeb built website is capable of.
Adding SEO tags and optimizing files for faster download requires publishing to a local folder anyway....

  • IWeb Problems after updating to Mac OS X 10.6.3

"iWeb quit unexpectedly while using the SFWordProcessing plugin"
    - This message comes up every time I try to click on the homepage or "welcome" section. I had a similar problem with 10.6.2 but that was quickly solved by removing the Hoefler text. I have also tried removing the p.list and iweb domain file but nothing has been successful yet.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • IWeb: problem with comments

On my iWeb page I have comments allowed on my blog. Yet no one can post comments. If I publish a new article with the comments allowed, iWeb comes back with an error server message.
    Mac OS X 10.5.4
    iWeb 2.0.4

I'm having the same problem with blog Comments (iWeb 2.0.4). Clicking on "Add a Comment" gets this message; "We're sorry. We are having a problem processing your request." I get the same message in my business site photo gallery where you can leave a comment about a photo.

  • Various iWeb Problems

I've done a good amount of reading on the forums and am still not able to determine a solution to the problems I am having. Here are the details.
I am trying to create a site to show off family photos, of which we have over 1000. I have things broke up by year and event and there is only a couple events with over 100 photos. I have all the photos in iPhoto broke down by events.
Using iPhoto I select the iWeb to photo page option and the page gets created in iWeb, there has never been a problem with this step.
After creating about four pages I usually select Save. This has varying results that breaks down like this.
    1.Save actually works
2.Goes through the motion of saving but after selecting quit I get prompted to save again. Selecting save does nothing. Selecting do not save, expecting application to quit, does nothing.
3.The saving indicator never comes up.
Besides number one, the end result is I have to force quit iWeb and all my work is gone. Leaving it sit there for any length of time does not change the results.
If I am lucky enough to get a good save and want to publish to my .mac account, I can get a combination of these results.
    1.It works
2.iWeb hangs at logging into .Mac account. Clicking Cancel does nothing. Usually ends in Force Quit.
3.After selecting publish nothing happens. No indicator that it is logging into my .mac account or anything. Selecting the File menu, most of the options are grayed out. It would appear that iWeb thinks it is doing something, but it is not. No amount of time helps the situation. Normally ends in a force quit or iWeb telling me if I quit I will lose all my work. See number two above.
4.iWeb reports it is uploading to .mac account but after things are done, nothing happens. I do not see the time indicator next to my site in the left hand page pane. Circle of force quit, not able to save, and losing work begins.
I have tried reinstalling iWeb and starting with a fresh domain file, both resulted in no change. Odd thing is, when I was demoing the .mac service I had no problems. Once I converted my account and starting using my personal domain things went crazy. I do not think that is the root cause of the problem, just more of an observation.
I did not use the previous version of iWeb so there are no conversion problems there. iWeb is updated to 2.0.1, the problems existed both before and after the update. Using the iPhoto web gallery produces the same problem in iWeb. Saving to a local folder appears to work 100% of the time but it could be I have not tested this option enough. I am using the darkroom template but have had problems with the other templates also.
    So, any thoughts?
Also a question, other than removing the domain file, the iWeb application, and reinstalling the iWeb application, are the other files that have to be removed to get a clean install of iWeb?

I'm having pretty close to the same problems. However, I can't even save a project I am working on. Save, export, export to .Mac - none of these work. It just hangs and I get the spinning color wheel.
After trying to get it to work for the last couple days, I finally gave up. If someone has a great solution, I will give it a try. Otherwise, I will just delete iWeb from my system and keep using other programs that don't give me so much trouble.

  • Iweb problem.

    Hi,
I'm having a frustrating problem with iweb, I don't have a .mac account so I've been uploading my site to my own .com address, the problem is, it just...doesn't work very well, the only way I can seem to do it is by deleting absolutely every single file off my .com address (supplied through hostmonster.com with their hosting package) and then reupload EVERY single part of the site, I have only tested this once and it worked, but if I decide to make any improvements, such as, adding a movie to my movie page, it won't update, initially I thought I was putting stuff in the wrong folder but nope, the files are in there, they just aren't...I dunno, being read correctly? as I say, the only way to do it for me seems to be deleting everything off the server and then reuploading the entire site every time I make a minor update, even something as silly as a blog update, I could be wrong but there MUST be a way around this I'm sure, can anybody please tell me the solution? it's really frustrating.

Not at all, I've used many FTP programs and this one appears to function just the same, however - I'm new to the world of mac and haven't got a clue really as to what I need to be uploading, I'll give an example....in my website folder I currently have the folders Blog, Media, Scripts, Movie_files, and individual files titled feed.xml, Movie.html and index.html, (there is also another index file generated outside of my website folder by iweb, not sure why that's created but I simply upload the site folder and that index file to my site, as per the instructions mentioned on the link you provided) ...but, let's say I decided to update the Movie part of my website in iweb, after doing so, one would assume that I have to upload the new media files, perhaps reupload the movie.html as it's probably changed, the movie_files folder would need updating too as it will have a new .jpg for the picture loaded for the movie preview picture, and that should really be it, right?....apparently wrong, I tried doing exactly what I mentioned and while the files are uploaded, the website for some reason doesn't appear to recognize anything different at all, the only way is to reupload the entire website every time I make even the slightest of changes, perhaps I'm uploading the wrong files when I do it but I can't think of what else needs uploading..

  • Iweb problems

I just got my mac a couple of months ago to edit on FCE. I just discovered iweb last week. It's easy to use but I am unsure of the program. I created 1 page with a video embedded in it. It looks great on my mac but not on my PC. The text has a gray box around it until the video is fully loaded. Also once I play the video, if I scroll up or down the video box gets all distorted and tries to stay in the middle of the screen. Are these common problems or is it just my PC. Also is their a way to view the source code in iweb?
    here is the site www.studentlifetelevision.com

Also is their a way to view the source code in
    iweb?
You can only view the source code after iWeb has published a site. Then you can view it with any Browser via View > View Source, aimed at whatever pagename.html file you want to see. You can also modify the code with a text editor directly on your server or on your drive before uploading (but any changes are erased if you republish from iWeb).

  • IWeb - problems using email message hyperlink inspector

The email message hyperlink was working fine when creating websites. For no obvious reason it gave up and now when I choose it it fails to show and only "external page" will show. I have tried it on a new site and a new page, but it's the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what can I do ? I empted the iWeb cache etc etc

In Mail's Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors preference pane check to see how you have Sent configured.  Maybe change it, reboot and then change back to what you currently have.

  • IWEB problems, can't drag pages.

I cant drag anymore pages between sites, of course after migrating to OS X lion
Does any boddy have same problem?
    iweb 3.0.4

Don't have that problem with iWeb and Lion. Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

can we get a fix.. i dont wanna pay for someting not working.. thanks

The navbar is woking as it should for me. As far as the underline is concerned are you using the default navbar or did you create a new text based one? If it's the default iWeb navbar you can't change the formatting. For me all of the links are underlined.
If you create your own Text Based Navbar you can control the font, size, color and rollover features.
It looks like you are using your own navbar because of that graphic at the far right, correct? Is each link a separate text box or are all the links in one text box? Remember, to be able to set the underline on or off or set the rollover colors you must select the text itself as the link and not the text box.
