PC + Mac + xbox live help

Hey all, I'm going to be getting a mac mini for xmas and I'm not sure of the best way to network my internet connection. At the moment I have orange broadband unlimited and this is connected to my pc via a phone line > thomson usb modem and a usb port on my comp. The only network card on the comp is then directly connected to my xbox 360 via cat5e cable. Now when I get the mac I'd like to share this internet connection with all 3 (using the pc as the computer where I dail the connection off). The mac is wireless and supports 802.11g network, I would prefer to set the mac up in my bedroom with a seperate monitor etc and run it wirelssly, but I'd also like to keep the xbox directly connected to the pc via the network card (as I don't have to buy the wireless kit for the 360 and its running A1 as it is). So is there any sort of router out there that can do this or even better would some sort of usb router, or if not what sort of wired router can do this?
Any help appreciatted [:D]

You might want to consider trading in your USB modem for a wireless gateway. For example, the Linksys WAG200G Gateway. With a device like this, you can connect your PC & Xbox via wire and the Mac wirelessly.

  • Bridging mac mini to xbox 360 to use xbox live...HELP!

i've done this once before with a previous router i was just trying out and it worked great. however, i purchased a wireless router and cant get it to work again. i've found all the instructions that the internet has to offer when it comes to using your mac as a bridge to get on xbox live...the fact that i've done it successfully hopefully shows that. my problem now comes in the DNS stage...it always fails.
i think the problem is this...in the termminal when i type in ifconfig en0...the inep i get is 192.768.2.1...but when i check to see what my router IP is...it's the same. is this what is causing my problem and not letting me get on xbox live?
when i go to my xbox settings...under IP i know its working because on the xbox live test it passes every time...and just fails at DNS which is where i'm supposed to put my router IP which happens to be the same as my normal IP.
    is this the problem?
i called my ISP and they said there's nothing they can do about it...they cant change my router IP. i hope you guys can help. i really want to get on without having to spend 50*100 bucks. thanks.

okay...here's my complete set up. i have my mac mini which is connected to my belkin wireless connection which is upstairs. the belkin router is plugged into my cable modem (road runner if that matters). i pick up a full signal on my mini. from my xbox360 to my mac mini, i have an ethernet cable connected.
when i type in ifconfig en0 in the terminal, the "inet" i get is 192.68.2.1. this is to be used in the IP section of connecting to xbox live as i understand. actually, each time i try to connect, it passes all of the IP tests.
the problem comes with the DNS. from what i understand, what i'm supposed to put in the DNS section of my xbox live is the number i get when i type in DIG in the terminal and then scroll down to where it says server. the number i get there is also 192.168.2.1.
i type that into the dns and it does not work.
my firewall is off...my sharing is on. i'm not sure what to do.
to make sure that my xbox is working, i plugged in my dell laptop and bridged the connections and it worked great. but i need it to work with my mac...at least i want it to. thanks.

  • Xbox live on a mac

I tried to hook up my xbox with my mac. I use a verison dsl connection and I did all that the xbox requires to connect on its troubleshooter. • Need Help Blocking Xbox Live Ports on ES4200

Can someone instruct me on best method for blocking access to Xbox Live on my ES4200? I want to prevent my niece/nephew from hogging bandwidth and/or limit/restrict their usage.  Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Nicky

Hi Nicky, is your router E4200 or ES4200? If your Xbox is connected wirelessly, all you need to do is access the setup page of the router. Look for this page http://ui.linksys.com/files/E4200/1.0.00/Status_Lan.html and click the DHCP client table option.
You will find the MAC address of your Xbox on the list, just take note of it and go this tab on the page http://ui.linksys.com/files/E4200/1.0.00/Wireless_MAC1.html. Once you're there, enable the Wireless Mac Filter and select the option Prevent. Input the Mac address of the Xbox on the list and make sure to save the settings. Hope this will help you. Update us!

  • Help please, when I use my Macbook Pro internet it crashes our XBox Live

When I use the internet at all on my Macbook Pro, wireless, it crashes the games my DF is playing on xbox live through the the same router but with the ethernet. It doesn't do this with his laptop PC. Any ideas?

Most routers have the option to list DHCP devices connected to them ... often you just use your browser and point to http://192.168.1.1 and you'll get it's home page.
And, the Mac's IP number will be showing in System Preferences/Network/Advanced under the TCP/IP Tab, not sure where the XBox would show it's IP# though.

Pearson put out a tech note on this today - the new versions of Java are what's causing the problem. If you can use Time Machine to rollback java prior to a java 7 or 1.6.0_37 version that will get you going again. I've been searching for hours for a place to download the older version but it seems Apple's site and Oracle all only have the latest release. Still trying to see if I have a copy downloaded on a system that hasn;t been updated to copy off to a network drive or usb and install the older version on to systems.

An update to Java for Mac OS X was released on October 16, 2012. An issue has been identified with this Java update (Java for OS X 2012-006) which prevents teachers from launching PowerTeacher Gradebook.
Teachers using PowerTeacher Gradebook should avoid taking this Java update to version 1.6.0_37 until notified that PowerTeacher Gradebook has been certified with this latest version of Java 1.6 for Mac OS X. PowerTeacher Gradebook will continue to work on Mac OS X workstations with Java version 1.6.0_35.
Additional communication will be provided once a workaround is identified or an updated version of PowerTeacher Gradebook is available.

  • Sharing Xbox Live access with Mac

I've been trying to get my son's MacBook Pro to share its Internet access with his Xbox 360 over Ethernet but have been having a very hard time of it. I've searched around online and have found various tutorials that approach it different ways. I've followed each one step by step and have failed every time.  Usually I get an error on the Xbox telling me that it can't find the Xbox Live servers.
The MacBook Pro gets on the Internet a 2WIRE router/modem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • What is the best way to remotely access my sister in laws Mac who lives in another city to help her with her computer problems?

    as stated above
What is the best way to remotely access my sister in laws Mac who lives in another city to help her with her computer problems?

The best way? Get her to bring it to you, especially if she makes good cakes.
Apples Back to my Mac isn't really suitable for this - it is designed for a single person who wants their Apple ID on the system. It would mean she would have to share hers with you & you would also have to setup her Apple ID on your Mac - it is messy & causes trouble with iCloud, iTunes etc.
You can try Messages if she is able to begin a session with you, see the 'invite to share screen' in the menus, weirdly you need to use a service that isn't from Apple.
    Messages (Mavericks): Share your screen
It may be better if you to setup LogMeIn or GoToMyPC. They should 'dial out' & maintain a constant connection so you can login whenever the Mac is powered up. It won't, require a human to initiate the process at the other end, just be aware that the router may cause issues depending on what is configured, you may need settings to enable automatic port forwarding - it really depend on which option you choose.

  • Xbox live issues. (please help) :)

Hi there, I am having trouble with my xbox live connection, I can sign in to XBL but it does take a few minutes to sign me in, Also when I play games (I mainly always play FIFA) There is a slight lag when im in a match with someone, My players not responding when pressing buttons, Like when I shoot it will take a second or two to shoot which is not normal.
I previously had connection issues and had to have an engineer fix something in my line, Which seemingly has worked perfect for my laptop as everything seems fine, I can load webpages fine with no trouble and speedtester results are as expected. So it may be down to something to do with my XBOX, I use a wireless connection as it is upstairs, but I have tried wired and it is still slow.

  • Need help with hooking up XBox live on my router

I am trying to hook up my xbox 360 live and it doesn't seem to want to work.
I have a laptop set up to my router and now I am trying to get the xboxx live to set up and it is saying it isn't connected.
How do I go about doing that with this router?
I can not find any directions online or in the book I received with my router.
    Model #WRT54G
The first port I left empty thinking the xbox would use that one and the second one I have my computer in it for my wireless.
What do I go and how do I go about hooking xbox live up with this?
    Thanks
This is the message I sent to tech support (which was on my router box) but seems to be no email tech support anymore.

  • Xbox live nat help

Hello all i need help trying to figure out a nat problem that i am having. I start out with a open nat on xbox live when i run the test but after running the test several times my nat will change from open nat to modrate nat for what reason i do not know but i need help trying to figure out how to fix this problem i am useing a wrt160nv2 router thanks.

NAT issues are quite common in this type of setup. Check out this article from the Xbox forum: Strict or moderate NAT type. You will need to adjust some settings on the router to resolve the NAT error on Xbox Live. Enabling UPnP and port forwarding should do the trick. You can refer to the following article for more information about these workarounds: Resolving NAT type issues with gaming consoles through a Linksys router.

  • Trying to connect to xbox live using my home network, I need help.

I have a xbox 360 that I want to connect to xbox live with, using my home network. Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that. If anyone could tell me what the problem is and hopefully how to fix it, it would be much appreciated.

u might to open port numbers 88 and 234 on your router
    here's how to open ports
1: open IE and on the address bar, type in 192.168.1.1 and hit enter
USERNAME: ( leave it blank )
PASSWORD: admin ( all in lowercases )
2: click on the tab " applications and gaming "  then click on the SUBTAB port triggering.
3: you can just name the application like, box or whatever and fill in 88 for each of the boxes in the first line
4: same goes to application number 2 but you have to put 2304 for each of the boxes and pls do not forget to enable it, then save settings
5: Teset the xbox if it's now working.
6: if still not working, go to the SECURITY tab and uncheck the bock that says, " block anonymous internet requests and save settings.
7: teset xboox agan and if it still won't work
8: go to the SET UP tab and look for MTU.
9: set it to manual and lower down the size by 10.( by default, it's 1500. )→ save settings.
              Hope it will help. goodluck!
