PC used to register iPod nano no longer available

I know this was a mistake. I registered my ipod nano on a computer I no longer have access to. I have a new computer at home, HP Compaq. My new computer is not recognizing my ipod and I'm not able to transfer songs purchased to my library. Is it possible to register my ipod on this computer and if not, if I reset all settings which I believe will delete my songs, will I then be able to register it? Thank you.

There is no actual registration between a computer and iPod. The iPod may be synced to a particular iTunes library, so you may need to get your songs off the iPod, set up your iTunes library on the new computer the way you want it, and then sync your iPod to the new library.
There is authorization between a computer and your iTunes Store account. So you will need to run iTunes on the new computer and use the +Authorize Computer+ command under the Store menu to authorize the new computer with your iTunes Store account. Your old computer will still be registered, but you can have up to five computers registered to one iTunes Store account.
Now, if you only need to transfer the items purchased from the iTunes Store from the iPod to the new computer, you can do the following. First, go to iTunes preferences Devices tab. Check the box that says +Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods+. This is just a precaution, because iTunes should ask before syncing your iPod for the first time with a new library.
Connect the iPod and run iTunes. If iTunes asks if you want to sync the iPod, decline to do so. iTunes should open and the iPod should appear in the iTunes sidebar. Select the iPod in the sidebar. Go up to the menu bar and select +File -> Transfer Purchased from <name of iPod>+. That would put all the iTunes Store purchased items on your iPod into your iTunes library.
Note: This only works for iTunes Store purchases. If you want other files off the iPod, you will need to use a third-party utility. iTunes will not do it.

Click here, check that your computer meets the requirements, purchase and install the DVD, and run Software Update.

In order to run iTunes 10 you need OSX 10.5 or greater.  You will have to upgrade your operating system, if that is possible.   What you can do to upgrade will depend upon your computer and software you run.  To get more information about your computer, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number.

  • Can i use my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro

I registered my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro.  While on my macbook, I tried to download wma audiobooks from the library using overdrive media console & its not working.....so, I decided to use my windows laptop.  I have the latest version of itunes on both laptops.  (I know I can download & transfer wma audiobooks to my shuffle using overdrive media console & windows laptop.)  I'm getting an error message that says I have to reformat my nano if I want to download wma audiobooks.  Can I use my nano on macbook pro & windows laptop?  will I ever be able to download wma audiobooks to my nano using macbook?

Your iPod Nano will need to be restored in iTunes on the Windows laptop before you can start adding/syncing content over to it.
Or if you want to use it with OverDrive on the Mac, you'll need to download the books as MP3s as WMA is not supported.

  • Registering iPod Nano 4th with AppleId - registered to another Apple ID.

Hello, today i was trying to register my iPod Nano to the new Apple Id service. I'm the owner of the iPhone, MBPro and iPod Nano 4th. I registered iPhone and MBP but for the iPod Nano i'm getting the error:
According to our records, this serial number is registered to another Apple ID. If you have more than one Apple ID, log in to My Support Profile with that Apple ID to see your other registered products. Not sure if you have another Apple ID? Find out.
The fact is that i have only one appleid and it's the one i'm using on itunes store and i'm sure i registered it with iPod Nano 2 yrs ago, when i bought it. But how do i un-register it with the other apple id if i don't remember it at all?

Are you the original owner of the devices which say they're registered to another Apple ID? You will need to call Apple or go to the store to have this straightened out.

  • Ipod Nano no longer recognized by Itunes

I have an Ipod Nano that I used with my Toshiba and Itunes. About a month ago, I got an Ipod Touch (lots of fun)and used it with the same Itunes. It worked fine. However, it does not recognize the Nano anymore. It charges but nothing else happens. Any thoughts? The Nano is recognized by other computers.
    Thanks!

I've run into similar problems. I have four iPods (a firewire 3G, a Shuffle, a nano and a 5G) attached to my PC and I've yet to get all of them to show up in iTunes at once, even after restoring and reloading each of them. The Shuffle shows up for a few seconds, then goes away. The Nano, 3G and 5G stick around for a while, but if two of them are connected to the system, one of them (usually the nano or the 3G) vanishes from iTunes when the third is connected.
ITunes won't say so specifically, but you won't be able to successfully restore a device unless it's the only one connected to your system. What's more, if you have more than one iPod connected when you attempt to restore one, there's a good chance you'll screw up your other one instead. No big deal, unless you're on your way out the door and must now wait for 6000 songs to resync, but still a hassle.

  • IPod nano no longer recognized USB device - after almost 2 perfect years

Okay, so I ran about 5 miles last night using my nike+ipod. The ipod worked flawlessly as usual. When I went to plug it in to my computer, instead of acting normal I got "unrecognized USB device" or something similar. iTunes didn't recognize it either. It was charging however. The ipod still plays music, but without being recognized I won't be able to get any music changed on it.
I already tried a couple of things. I rebooted the computer. I plugged it in to another computer (with same results). I switched the hold switch and then held down the top two buttons for 6 seconds, etc. It turns off and back on fine. It plays music fine. The computer seems to know it's there b/c it charges and respondes "USB device not recognized". It just doesn't recognize it anymore.
Please help! Did I sweat too much on it?

I have tried everything that has been mentioned on every discussion I could find and it still isn't working. It's driving me crazy! Could any1 help please? All suggestions appreciated.
Out of curiousity could it be a faulty wire?

  • How to use Windows formatted iPod nano to move music to a new Mac?

    Hi all,
I need to transfer my iPhone's musics, songs, apps and photo, etc to the Mac and I came across this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329" guide at Apple Support site since I owned a iPod nano.
My questions is since my iPod nano is configured for Windows will the Mac be able to read it since it's stated clearly in the guide "While a Windows formatted iPod may work on a Mac, Apple supports this configuration only with iPod shuffle."
If I follow through the guide, 1. Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use, 2. Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder, 3. Copy iTunes folder to iPod. I will still need to restore the iPod to work in Mac and end up nothing left inside meaning songs, photo all erased.
Also, anyone using third party software like http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ Can advise if it's good to use this? And if iPod nano configured for Windows can works with this?
Need other more solution other this to transfer the mentioned data to Mac.
    Thanks.

iPhone… iPod… iPod Nano… which one it is? You are trying to transfer music from what source, using what medium, and to what target?

Where exactly is this stated? I am unable to find this statement in the KB article you mentioned. And are you talking iPhone or iPod? This KB article applies only to iPod.

    Hello Tomás Beauchamp,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you have a white screen on the iPod. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Reset iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button until you see the Apple logo appear. If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes.
If the Apple logo does not appear, or if the iPod is not seen in iTunes, connect it to iTunes and try to restore.

Recently, I have found that my Ipod Nano (2nd generation) no longer plays music at full volume.  While it is generally sufficiently loud, at the gym, with all the external noise, I have trouble hearing some of my music.  Is there a fix for this problem?

  • IPod nano no longer works correctly

I have an iPod nano and I have only just purchased it less than a month ago. Whenever it is laying somewhere not plugged in to the computer it will be a blank screen. If I press menu it will come up with a note that reads "use iTunes to restore" and than it shuts off again. It will do the same thing if I press menu again. when I connect it to my computer it makes a beep that acknoledges that is connected but won't show up on the left where it should. While it is plugged in it will say do not disconnect... and it will not stop saying that! I have tried reseting it s instructed in the manual but that doesn't have any effect. I have also tried disk mode which I don't totally understand but I tried it non the less. Anyway my question basically is how do I fix this and how could I possibly restore it via iTunes if iTunes does not recognize its connection. Please if someone knows what the problem is please respond and help me out. Thanks in advance - Skidd711
