PCI Card doesn't fit?!

Hey guys,
I need firewire 400 for my audio mixing desk. I was advised to not buy an adaptor and use the current Firewire 800 ports, but to instead buy a Firewire 400 PCI Card.
Well, I did that and it doesn't fit. Obviously I have made a mistake. Would I be correct in saying the full length card I have is PCI and I need to buy one that is PCI Express?
Any Firewire 400 PCI Express card I can see online seems to be very short and not contain enough gold connections for the rather long looking PCI-e slots inside my mac pro.

A little help please?

Yes I did. I forgot about getting back to you, I am very sorry. I have been extremely busy and stressed trying to start up this new business. This recent hickup is one I really didn't need and can not afford to repeat so I need to make sure I am getting the correct product this time.
Thanks for the website link but I am in the U.K.
Its proving very hard to find any PCI Express Firewire 400 cards. I find a lot of cheap ones by Startech. I have no idea if that company is any good. Perhaps this is something that I do not need to spend a lot of money on?
The apple store online doesn't appear to have any.

My Olympic camera SD card doesn't fit into the SD card camera reader. Apple advised me to purchase the product in order to import photos to my IPad. How do I over ride this problem. How do I import photos from an Olympus FE-340 directly to my IPad?

Your camera uses an OLympic XD picture card http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-xD-Picture-Memory-202332-package/dp/B002LC2DQ4/ref =pd_sim_sbs_p_1 This card has different dimensions compared to an SD card.
You should be able to plug the cable that came with your camera into the camera connection kit to import the pics.

  • New PC card doesn't fit satelite 1905-S301

I just ordered a new 4 x usb pc card to substitute for the two broken usb ports on the back.  The problem is that the new card will not fit into the pc card slot.  I use a netgear wireless pc card and it seems to have larger pin holes than the new usb pc card.  The satelite ahs 2 type II pc card slots and the new card is type II.  Did the pin sizes change in last 9 years, or did they manufacture the new card wrong?
I got the new card from newegg.com laptop acessories -> (guided search on left side) laptop add-on cards -> 4 x usb card -> look for koutech IO pcmcia card. I'm sending this one back.
    Solved!

    This card?
Koutech IO-CBU420 USB PCMCIA Card 4x USB 2.0
According to the specs, that "32-bit CardBus Type II" should fit your computer.

  • Satellite 5200-903: Mini PCI Card doesn`t work

    Hello,
I am a user of an:
    Satellite 5200-903: P4-M 2.2/256+256 DDR/60GB/15T SXGA+/DVD-R-RW/nV FX 5600/cPad/WIFI ready/XP
My computer is equipped with an Toshiba Wirless lan Mini PCI Card.
I installed the card a few years ago - everything worked wonderfull.
At the beginning of 2006 I installed a new operating system (XP Pro + SP1, same system as before) because it was necessary.
I installed all driver for the W-Lan Card, obviously the card worked in the correct way (no driver incompatibility or other problems).
But, and thats the reason of this topic here. It isn`t possible to connect my card to any Hot Spot. I tried it with 2 different access points, but the result is the same. "No connection Point found".
Has anyone any idea what to do or in which direction I could look for the failure? Is there maybe any special Software necessary (I couldn`t remember, that in my last installation I had needed special driver or software)
If further informations are necessary, please inform myself.
(sorry for the terrible english, but it isnt my first language.)
    THX for your help

    Hi,
thx for the hints. But unfortunately none of these solved my problem.
    1. I checked my device Manager, it`s shown a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini Pci Card
    2. The device is activated, with no problems
    3. My wireless activation switch on the left notebook side is activated (led lights yellow)
    4. Pushing the Fn+F8 Button results nothing
(wenn i press the combination during the Notebook switch is off - i got the message "wireless connection is deactivated, please activate")
What have to happen, when pushing the Fn+F8 Button during the wireless switch is activated? Is there any message on the screen?
Concerning the installed driver, how could I check what type of card is installed in my notebook. I know, that there a two types of driver and card existing, toshiba and atheros.
But, if the installed driver causes no problems I guess the right driver is installed.
    Thx for any further Idea...
    C.

  • SIM card doesn't fit

today i had my iphone delivered to me and i went to change my old sim into the iphone and it was too big to fit in, do i need to get a new sim card and plan or is there a different, easier way to solve this?

The iphone 4 uses a micro sim. You will either have to obtain one from your carrier(recommended) or google for ways to cut your existing sim down.

  • I can't download photos from my canon 350d to my apple mac - even using i-photo (what's image capture). The card doesn't fit in the computer and I don't ave a card reader. Is there a simple solution?

Can anyone help? I'm trying to get the pictures off my canon 350d onto my i-mac (I've tried through i-photo).

Option 1: Download Canon's software. Attach the camera to the computer (USB A to mini B) and the software will ask where to download your photos.
Option 2: Buy a CF card reader.  I recently purchased a PIXELFLASH card reader for $16US.

  • EMac Airport Extreme card doesn't fit???

I have tried and tried to get the card in the slot and just won't work. I have both an Airport and Airport Extreme card and it's obvious that the Extreme card is the right one. Here's the problem, inside the slot at the back, you can see 2 rows of prongs (male). This card is male as well. I think there is something missing inside my slot? The card just lays in there and you can't get it to reach the back. I think maybe there is a plastic piece that is supposed to be hooked over the prongs? Help?! Thanks!

    Hey Rob,
OK found a 700 here's a pic of the bay:
    http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll306/spudnuty/?action=view&current=eMac700Ai rportcardreceiver.jpg
and with the Old Airport installed:
    http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll306/spudnuty/?action=view&current=eMac700Ai rportcardinstalled.jpg
It took a bit of wiggling and jiggling to get it to go in there. So firmly but not with a lot of force. If it won't go see if there are parts of the metal guides on either side are bent in, preventing it from sliding smoothly in.

  • Airport Extreme Card does not fit into my laptop.

I recently purchased an Apple iBook G4 and a separate Airport Extreme Card. Maybe I'm just Mac-illiterate, but I can't figure out how to install the card. I've studied the directions in the manual and online but the diagrams don't seem to correspond with my laptop. For example, my laptop does not have the grey wire or metal bracket that are shown in Figure 6 at http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/ibkg4/ibg4-apc-cip1.pdf. In fact, that whole area in my laptop looks very different from the way it looks in the image. The card doesn't fit/snap in anywhere under the keyboard.
Am I totally missing something? Is the card supposed to be installed elsewhere? Did I perhaps purchase the wrong card?
Any support you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully my question isn't too stupid!

Current generation iBook G4's have a built in Airport Extreme interface - they don't make use of a user-installable Airport Extreme card.
Does your Mac have an Airport menu item (the fan-shaped icon near the right side of the MacOS menu bar)? If so, it already has an installed Airport interface.

  • Re: Upgrade Portege R100 WLAN to wap - new mini pci-card oder pcmia?

    Hi!
My old but loved R100 is not able to connect to my wlan-Router due to the fact,
that the build-in pci-card doesn't support wap. So i have to update my notebook
either with a new mini-pc card oder a pcmia-card. Which solution is better?
    Best regards,
    Rita

    Thanks for the reply.
Plesase help me read this carefully.
Actually, my computer is Portege R150 series. I bought it from a friend that just came back from china. All the functions are working except wlan and sd memory card. I formatted the operating system that came with it and installed another xp proffessional and downloaded all the drivers online. In the device manager, I didnt see the wlan card so I decided to open it and I checked it, the card wasnt installed on the board, it must have been removed by someone I dont know, tthe antenna cable wasnt there also. I then bought another intel wlan card. I downloaded the driver and i installed it. It was driven and the system was detecting it. but for the fact that there was no antenna, when I search for wifi, i do not see any newtwork. I then decided to buy the antenna cable. I bought it and there are two connectors on the wlan card. one is main and the other is aux. I connected it on main and I know that the other end of the same cable should be connected somewhere in the computer to the antenna. I cant see any connector on the motherboard that looks like where I can plug that cable. Thats my problem.
Please if I can get the installation manual, i'd very much appreciate. Maybe the manual might help me cos I dont want to buy a pcmcia cos iv already bought a minipci and my machine detects it, i just need to connect it to the antenna, and I dont know where the antenna port is.
    Thank you.

  • PCIE power cable doesn't fit!

I didn't get a convertor with my MSI6800GT, as it was a demo sample, but my PSU supports 6 pin output, I did however get a cable thrown into the box at a last minute, which doesn't produce enough power.
    Cable 1:
Normal ATI X800 pcie power cable, only fills two of the 6 pins in the 6 pin output, so doesn't produce enough power.
    PSU 6pin cable:
doesn't fit!  The pin right under the attachment thing is square, on the other cable (which fits but doesn't have enough power) that's rounded and that fits fine.

    neuron,
How about listing your specs and post some pix of the hardware in question.
    Take Care,

  • Radeon 5870 and 2008 Mac Pro (3,1) - Doesn't fit?

I'm sorry for what I'm sure is an obvious question, but I just received my new ATI 5870 upgrade kit from Apple and the darn thing doesn't fit inside my Mac Pro. The instructions reference a "PCI Slider" button which is meant to free up room to install the card, then slide back afterwards, but there is no such button on my 2008 system. I'm guessing it was added for the 2009 model and later.
I'm confident, because of all the positive reports, that there's a way to make this fit and work. I just don't know what the trick is. I can't find instructions anywhere. Does someone know? Please?
    Thanks!

This video shows the "trick" for the 2009 models. This site does not show the 2008 model, but may be similar:

  • PCI card

I have a PCI card in my old G4 power mac. When I tried to fit it in my newer mac, which is a powermac g5 - the card doesn't appear to fit. It's a PCI card, but the little notch is in the slot to put it in. Is there any cure? This is a Delta 66 - enabling me to hook up my tape player to my computer and recording voice with music. Is there any help out there? Thanks

    HI-
Your machine is a dual 2.5GHz PCI-X model:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg5/stats/powermac_g5_2.5dp.html
The expansion slots accept PCI or PCI-X cards with either 32-bit or 64-bit address and data buses.
The expansion slots support universal and +3.3 V cards, but not 5 V signalling. The cards are required to use the standard PCI fence described in the specification.
Note: 5 V keyed or signalling cards do not work in the Power Mac G5 computer.
The computer’s case has four openings in the back for access to I/O connectors on cards in the three expansion slots and the AGP slot. Each slot has room for a full size 12.335-inch or short 6.926-inch card. The numbering on the casing is 1 through 4 and corresponds to the label on the PCB. *Number one is the AGP slot* and numbers *two through four are the PCI or PCI-X slots*.
    PCI/PCI-X Developers Note
PCI or PCI-X cards cannot be installed in slot #1.
This is reserved for the AGP graphics card only.
M-Audio lists compatibility of the Delta 66 with most G5's, with a couple of exceptions:
    http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=b9f145c1c2ef3fd398ae0c17b1a4c b48
There should be no physical reason for the PCI card to not be installable in slots 2, 3, or 4, unless the PCI card is 5V keyed.

  • PCI Card confusion

Hi I bought a used Mac Pro (original 2x 2.66GHx Xeon). Sadly, none of the firewire ports seem to work. (Yes I tested with different cables/devices).
I ordered a "Mac OS Compatible" "PCI" firewire card. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124003&nmmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text--)
Unfortunately, it doesn't even fit in my Mac Pro's "PCI" slots. Could someone point me in the direction of a card that actually fits in, and functions with my Mac Pro?
    Thanks.

Sonnet has a sold reputation in Mac products.
Another thing, did it come with OEM discs? and Apple Hardware Test is on the original OEM OS X DVD w/ 10.4.x by holding 'D' on startup.

  • Sound Blaster Live 24-bit PCI Sound Card and Creative Sound Blaster PCI Card not detect

Ok here is my problem. I bought a Creative Sound Blaster PCI sound card a while back and it was working fine but recently when I would boot up my computer and try to play music say off of Winamp it says Bad DirectSound Driver. When I check device manager it shows no sound card there and in sounds and audio devices it says no audio device. Now my brother believed this to be a card fault so we went to Frys and bought a Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit PCI card. I uninstalled the old drivers and installed this new one but yet it's the same problem. My assumption was that Windows XP had something conflicting so I reinstalled the OS. It found the card and I installed the latest drivers?off of this site but now it does the same thing yet again with a fresh install of Windows XP. The card has been in all 3 of my PCI slots and it will detect it for a moment but then acts like as if the card was never installed. Like I never installed a sound card into the computer. The onboard audio has been disabled for a while now but I do not know what the problem could be. I did Scan for hardware changes but it doesn't show up. Sometimes when the card is detected if I do scan for hardware changes and the card is there it will just magically disappear from the device manager as if it was never there. Even when I try to load music and I see the card is detected it will not play the music and ends up locking up Winamp to the point that sometimes will go BSOD. Now I would really like to find out what the issue is because I am planning this weekend to swap out my motherboard with a duplicate board to see if that will end up fixing the problem but I want to find out if there is any other way to fix this issue. Thank you.Message Edited by AuXoIs on 02-25-200808:28 PM

Hmm what other options is there for the bios on PCI slots? Also anything you connect to the motherboard can have oxidization (I think its that) build up on the connection. Check the connector on the card and get a eraser (Pen eraser is better) and give it a good cleaning. The connector might have alot of build-up on it and you can see it by a dark yellowy colour. I cleaned my graphics card and ram connectors after they got alot of the build-up on them. On a older computer my graphics stopped working and this fixed it. Also I went away for a while (like a month) and came back to see that my puter didn't display anything. Opened it up and saw that the graphic card had alot of corrosion? on the card connector and in the slot. Does that if you computer is turned of for a long time. Had a heck of time trying to clean the slot out. One other thing that it could be is the sound card is faulty. I had an audigy 2 and it died a while back . It picks it up and then try and use it computer freezes and the after restart it's not there anymore. Hope it's not that problem. Hope this gives you something to go by.
