Pdf attachment no iBooks "Open As"

User has an iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.2 and has received a pdf as an attachment. He goes to "Open As" to open and save the pdf in iBooks but iBooks is not in the listing. Looking in the "More" shows a total of 3 items not 10, and iBooks is not listed there. How do we add iBooks to the Activities listing? We have backed  up his old iPad and restored to the newer iPad, and sync. It simply is not listed as a choice...
John

It's not a problem with either app. Just hold down on the open PDF to bring up the "open in" window. If hold down on the open PDF and select "Quick Look" , that will give you the full screen file and you will see the share icon in the upper right corner.

Are you trying to say that all of the apps mentioned are running as
XENapps? If not please specify which are local vs remote.
What is the client OS being run as that may also factor in.
Worth trying another PDF reader such as FoxIT reader to better see
which side is driving that behaviour.

  • Can no longer open email PDF attachment in iBooks

Just discovered can no longer open on iPad mini any email attachment PDF file in iBooks.  Cannot tap attachment and select open in iBooks. PDF attachment opens itself automatically on the body of the email. Is this a PDF problem or iPad problem or iBooks problem.

  • I want to Open a PDF attachment in iBook, but it doesn't work anymore.

I want to Open an Email attachés PDF in my iBook. Just do ist like always, but it doesn't work anymore.
    Can you help me.
    Thanks

Try quitting the iBooks App completely, restart the iPad and see if that helps.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close iBooks by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down the iBooks icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • PDF attachment does not open

I have a Samsung i760 with Verizon Wireless. I am running Windows Mobile 6 Professional. I have installed Adobe Reader PPC 2.0, and the Reader application itself appears to work fine (appears in my Program list, I can open the program, etc.). I have my work e-mail (from an Exchange server)pushing to my phone, and my e-mail has been working fine. Every day, I receive a report via e-mail with a .pdf document attached. When I open this e-mail, and click on the .pdf attachment, it says "Downloading..." on the bottom of my screen, but the file never finishes downloading or opens up. The file is only "(12K)" according to the e-mail, so it should download fairly quickly, and then Adobe Reader should open up and display the file. Any ideas why this does not happen? It just says "Downloading" forever until I manually stop the download. Thanks.

    Hey there,
Same I experienced the same problem, hopefully someone can help up...

  • Touchpad mail pdf attachment won't open

regular pdf downloads open ok but when attached to an e-mail an error pops up "can't read mime types". Any idea how I can make this work?
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Right-click on your attached PDF. Select Quick Look Attachment. This opens the PDF with Quick Look in another window. You can scroll your PDF or jump to individual page icons.
Otherwise, the in-place, attachment scroll is history.

  • How do I open a PDF attachment using the Open In function from iPad mail

I Am trying to open a PDF document from my mail. In previous versions of the iOS (presently I am on 7.1.1) the open in feature of the email  re organised that you had an rhe adobe reader installed and allowed you to select this to open the document. Thiis no longer working for me.

The functionality certainly has not gone away with iOS 7. What do you see when you attempt this (and how do you go about it)?
Only thing I can recommend off hand is to try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

My 'publish to pdf' shows PDF 5.  Does that have anything to do w/ it?!?
Sounds like the PDF's are being created by Wordperfect. You'll want to find a forum for that application.

  • How can I open a pdf attachment in Mozilla Thunderbird?

In my Thunderbird email account, I checked a box for MSWord to open all attachments, but I would like to reverse that decision since I got a pdf attachment, and MSWord doesn't open that. How do I change it back to the way it was so the pdf attachment can be opened with adobe?

Tools > Options > Attachments > Incoming tab
    * in the 'Content Type' column:
    * look for: Microsoft Office Word document
    * then look at the 'Action' for it
    * click on the current Action and select 'use Microsoft Office Word'
If this is already setup ok then leave alone and do the next step.
Is there a 'Content type' for Adobe Acrobat Document' ?
    If yes,
    * click on the Action and select 'Use Adobe Acrobat' or 'Adobe Reader'
    * click on OK
If there is no 'Content type' for Adobe Acrobat Document'
then click on OK and do the next step below.
    * Locate email with pdf attachment
    * right click on attachment and choose Open
    * select 'Open with' and choose 'Adobe Reader'
    * select 'do this automatically for files like this from now on.'
    * click on OK

  • Outlook2013 email message goes behind main Outlook window when opening PDF attachment with Reader 11

Problem statement: Outlook 2013 email message goes behind main Outlook window when opening PDF attachment with Adobe Reader 11.0.3
    Environment: Windows 8 x64; Office 2013; Adobe Reader 11.0.3
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Open Outlook 2013
    2. Open email message with PDF attachment
    3. Open PDF attachment (with Adobe Reader as default PDF viewer)
    4. Close Adobe Reader
Results: Original email message with PDF attacment now sits behind the main Outlook window
Expected results: Original email message should be on top of main Outlook window as it was when opening the PDF attachment
Note: Adobe Acrobat Profession performs as expected - the original email is on top of the main Outlook window - This only seems to be a problem with Adobe Reader.
Has anyone else experience this problem?  If so, have you found a work-around?
    Thanks,
    Mike

From: new window opens behind existing window - how to modify?
I had this problem happening in Outlook.
If I tried to open an email, it would open behind the main Outlook window.
The same happened if I opened a link in the email - it would open behind the mail.
The fix that was suggested to me was so simple that I still don't believe it.
Right click on the task bar and unlock the taskbar, then lock it again.
Close down Outlook and re-start it.
Problem solved! Just dont know how  or why.

  • Ipad can't open PDF attachment

Emails sent from Outlook are received on the ipad but the PDF attachment won't open. How can this be fixed?

Looks like another user asked similar question with over 600 views and no replies ... hmmm.  When I click on the attachment, it says I must save it to my disk; with one button mouse just click once and save?  I've tried dragging and saving the attachment to word doc but opened up with a page of garbled words/symbols,etc.  Any ideas are welcome.

  • Email PDF attachements

email PDF attachements that are open in ibooks will not close , and cant return to mail box in box

This has happened to other users too. There seems to no solution to prevent it from happening. You can restore you iPad to service by either resetting your iPad:
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the
Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Or for some people turning of and then back on the specific Mail account in Setting does the trick.

I have iPad 4th Generation with iOS 6.1.3  Since my iBooks was updated to version 3.1.1 I cannot open pdf file attachment in my email.  When I tap of the attachment, the iBooks icon no longer show itself.  Can someone please help?

Thanks for all (Ocean20 & Courcoul) who replied.
Reset the device did not help me but it does triggers me to attempt to resend the PDF file attachment on email--and it works the 2nd time.  My problem is now solved.
The Adobe Reader is very helpful--it allows me to scroll through the document easily, unlike iBooks, where I cannot scroll straight up or down.

  • PDF's won't open in iBooks

    Hi,
When I download a PDF in safari and tap the open in iBooks button iBooks opens but the PDF does not download into there. I am running ios5.1 on an iPad 2. I have many books and some PDFs on there all open and work ok but it's when I try and add the issue arises.
    Any guidance would be great.
    Thanks.

I have encountered this same issue on iOS 5.0.1
When I was running the earlier 4.x iOS, I could easily open any PDF that was within Safari or attached to an email and open that and manage it via iBooks. But now with iOS 5.01, when I select "Open in iBooks" the iBooks app opens, but nothing else happens.
I can open PDFs in Adobe Reader as normal, but I really like to manage my PDFs within iBooks, so I hope there is a work around or this is fixed soon.
